Anthony,

We are working on the same thing here.

The way to do it is to use an advanced interface form with Back end
Mapping.

Then you can have the URL pass the parameters to the form/fields as you
need with the F1001=ValueF123456=value2

Where in F1001, the 1001 is the field Id.

And when the Form is opened, it will set the Request ID, and on
submission, it will create the SRM:Request record stub.

Hi,

(Sending behalf of my colleague)

I am trying to integrate SRM to a knowledge site in such as way that
users will review information there to narrow down their issue (incident
or request) and then receive a link to take them DIRECTLY into a request
form specific to their needs, with parameters passed to fill in relevant
fields. One can create a URL that has a Remedy form specified and after
the user logs in they are taken directly to the form. Testing this,
however, vital information isn't filled in for a request because it
wasn't navigated through the SRM console.

What mechanisms exist in SRM or what techniques can be used to link
directly to a request form from external source (to avoid SRM console
navigation), and pass additional parameters to fill fields?

Re: Calculate Gaps in Schedule

2009-05-21 Thread Brian Bishop
Hi Lisa,

You could look at taking the on call end date of person A and subtracting it
from the on call start date of person B. If the end result is say greater
than an hour, you could advise somebody. In fact you could make this part of
the process when entering the dates so that an individual is made aware that
their on call is starting at an unacceptable time after their colleagues
finishes. You could make it a warning or an error depending on the severity
of it.

I would probably give them an overriding option which shows that they are
aware of the gap and then email the groups manager in the background.

And

Person B from Group A is on call from May 7th 12:00am to May 12th 12:00am

I'd like to create some sort of calculation to capture the gaps for a
user, to warn them that nobody is on call from May 5th at 12:01am to May 6th
at 11:59pm.

It might not even have to be that detailed, maybe just a yes or no that
there are gaps and I can just notify the admin and they would have to check
it themselves…..

The data is on a table so I could do a loop and the Date Fields are

Hi Cary,

It's not just a forum that supports attachments - you can also post documents
in a standalone area. For example:

Maybe if BMC [...] customers to contribute (and search the contents of)

The BMC DN does have a pretty good search capability built in. For example:

http://developer.bmc.com/communities/search.jspa?communityID=2002resultTypes=BLOG_POSTresultTypes=DOCUMENTresultTypes=MESSAGEresultTypes=BLOGresultTypes=COMMUNITYresultTypes=TASKresultTypes=PROJECTresultTypes=SOCIAL_GROUPresultTypes=COMMENTpeopleEnabled=trueq=advanced+admin+tool

was a search of Advanced Admin Tool and it found Vincent's document page as
the first hit.

You are correct that it's not a replacement (currently) for something like
sourceforge.net, but it would be a place to post numbered releases to ensure
that BMC customers are aware of the hard work put into the project and benefit
from it.

I would have suggested BMC DN if it also had tools to help people develop Open
Source projects. However the last time I looked, BMC DN offered nothing in the
way of a source control system, a project Wiki, mailing lists for the project
or any other set of features that would be helpful to maintain and/or grow a
software project.

However, it has been a while since I last looked at BMC DN. Has any of that
changed? Or is it mostly a forum based web site that supports attachments?

Maybe if BMC could use a product like RKM (Remedy Knowledge

a thought. )

OT:User tool based form creator.

2009-05-21 Thread Reiser, John J
Hello Listers,

I seem to remember an application that someone built that would allow a
basic form to be built via the User Tool.

I was wondering if any one knows what it was called or if it ever went
into production.

I am asking because I find that some of my customers would like to be
able to throw together a quick form and use it among their teams. Any
workflow required would be created by an Administrator for them.

I guess I'm asking for a requirements gathering tool, built in ARS, that
would give the end user a pseudo-rapid development app.

I don't know if I want to go down the Sub-Admin path because we have so
many cross-group users that I would have to create a Sub-Groupname group
to assign as a subadmin to keep everyone honest.

TIA,

Automating definition export using driver

2009-05-21 Thread Tony Worthington

I know you can create a drm script file with commands similar to the

HPD:Incident Management Console

c:\test.def

Anyone know if there a way to pass the object name via command line so
that it does not need to be embedded in a script?

A more extensible approach would be to create an xml structure similar to
the one that the installers use -- but I'm not sure how to feed that into
driver and have it spit out a def file.

You will need to develop the code in the Asset/Purchasing module that will
interpret and generate events defined by the SRM module.
For examples look at forms SRM:SampleAppInstance and SRM:SampleAppTemplate
Then you will have to register the application and define mappings, then you
will be able to create AOTs ..

Should I be using Work Orders or creating task templates to build the

There is not “out of the box” integration between SRM and Purchasing. You will

I guess you are missing ar.h This file is part of the ARSystem API and you
will find it on your ARSystem Server, can download it from bmc.com and aswell
from http://arswiki.org/wiki/Remedy_API_Downloads. After installing the
ARSystem include files and libraries you have to set the VS Project settings
and point the compiler and linker to your choosen API directories.

 Hi Cary,

It's not just a forum that supports attachments - you can also post
documents in a standalone area. For example:

 http://developer.bmc.com/communities/docs/DOC-1907

Maybe if BMC [...] customers to contribute (and search the contents of)

The BMC DN does have a pretty good search capability built in. For
 example:

 http://developer.bmc.com/communities/search.jspa?communityID=2002resultTypes=BLOG_POSTresultTypes=DOCUMENTresultTypes=MESSAGEresultTypes=BLOGresultTypes=COMMUNITYresultTypes=TASKresultTypes=PROJECTresultTypes=SOCIAL_GROUPresultTypes=COMMENTpeopleEnabled=trueq=advanced+admin+tool

was a search of Advanced Admin Tool and it found Vincent's document page
 as the first hit.

You are correct that it's not a replacement (currently) for something like
sourceforge.net, but it would be a place to post numbered releases to
ensure that BMC customers are aware of the hard work put into the project
 and benefit from it.

 David,

I would have suggested BMC DN if it also had tools to help people develop
Open Source projects. However the last time I looked, BMC DN offered
nothing in the way of a source control system, a project Wiki, mailing
lists for the project or any other set of features that would be helpful to
maintain and/or grow a software project.

However, it has been a while since I last looked at BMC DN. Has any of that
changed? Or is it mostly a forum based web site that supports attachments?

Maybe if BMC could use a product like RKM (Remedy Knowledge
Management) for it's customers to contribute (and search the contents
of) then I think it would be more helpful than the forum based web site. (
 Just a thought. )

Re: Automating definition export using driver

2009-05-21 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Tony,

I have often consider this kind of feature... and after a few
iterations of this concept this is what I would suggest

Don't use the driver.

I know that sounds harsh. It is a helpful tool. However, it is not
stable enough to build an integration on. There is no guarantee that
it will even be in the next version, much less that it will work at
all like it does in the current version. So, IMO if you tie yourself
to it now... then you will surly pay for that decision over and over
again in the future.

Here is what I would suggest

Start down the road of a ARFilter plugin. (If you are on v7.1 then
specifically use the Java API based plugin feature set.) This way you
get to develop (and maintain) the code that does what you want it to
do.

If you can slap together a Java program to do what what you want done,
then converting it into a ARF (Java) plugin is very trivial.

If you do not know Java then ... well.. learn? or sweet talk some
nice ARS API aware Java programmer(s) on ARSList to help a nice guy
out. :)

This function sound like two inputs:
  Form Name
  File Name

then the plugin would connect to the ARS Server (as the user that
called the plugin, which in v7.1 there is no need to pass username or
password :) ) do the export and save the content to the AR Server file
system.

Or you might opt to write a bit more Java code and make the def file
an attachment in an ARS form. :)

It does not sound like it should be to hard to do. :)

How does that idea sound to you?

An approval brain freeze

2009-05-21 Thread Bob Rowe
I am having another brain freeze, this time on setting up an approval
process.

ARS 7.1, a custom app written in ARS 6.3. MS SQL, MS Windows Server 2003.

I set up the process to use a form, but when I try to create a rule I get
the message:

The Vote on ECO Change Request process is defined for the
DOL:CCSC-AgencyVote application. However, this application has not been
configured to work with approval processes. (ARWARN 45457)

Like I said, I created the process. I've done this several times, rebooted
the workstation, all that. I have added the form to AP:Process.

This all works as designed on dev, but I know I'm missing something!

What am I forgetting

Thanks in advance.

We were experiencing several problems coming from out side Remedy. But we
still are seeing some errors and getting a stack dump.
But if we move our users to patch 008 instead of patch 001, the error does

BMC is trying to understand what patch 008 is fixing.

Pascale,

That should be an ARS BUG in my opinion.

At the very least the server should note (AKA: Log) that it gave up due to
a
timeout. Which implies that the CE that spawned the WebService (Er... AR
Filter plugin call) needs to show up in the logs too.

It may be a reasonable behaviour for ARS to timeout. But it is very
important that it not do something without telling us what it is doing.
(Well, when the logs are turned on at least. :) )

I strongly suggest that you NOT let BMC off the hook on this part of your
problems.
You spent how much time trying to figure it out?
Several other customers (via ARSList) spent time thinking and/or testing.

Because the AR Server did not tell you that an error happened and that it
took an action due to that error condition.

And I would bet that you are not the first person to have this kind of
problem either.

This fault cost BMC customers a lot. It should be fixed before it costs
more
customers even more money.

It looks like the set field on the webservice call fails because of

Performance Tuning ARS 7.1

2009-05-21 Thread Leonard Nelson
Hello All

We just launched ARS 7.1 two weeks ago. Things have been running
fairly well until last week when we started to see the error ARERR 92
Timeout during database update -- the operation has been accepted by
the server and will usually complete successfully : server.com

With BMC guidance we increased the tempdb size from an initial 8MB to
1GB. The ARERR 92 error appeared to be resolved until earlier this
week when we started seeing error ARERR 382 The value(s) for this
entry violate a unique index that has been defined for this form :
HPD:Help Desk entry:INC8832 fields: and error ARERR 8939
The AR System Plug-In server is not responding. Cannot connect to the
system at this time. Contact your AR System Administrator for
assistance. : RPC: Timed out

I suspect that ARERR 92 and ARERR 382 are related, so earlier this
morning I increased the tempdb size from 1GB to 5GB. This appears to
have resolved these errors. However, I'm not sure if ARERR 8939 is
related to this issue but restarting the arplugin.exe process appears
to have resolved this issue.

Our AR server is running on a Windows 2003 server R2 with 8GB RAM and
the database backed is SQL 2005 running on a similar server.

I'm curious if anyone else has encountered similar issues and what
recommendations people have for improving performance of a system.
Clearly, we are learning some new ways of tuning our system, so any
tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Automating definition export using driver

2009-05-21 Thread Robert Molenda
Here is how I do it in Java :)

*private* *static* String *str_XML*;

*cim_ARS*.setServer(Some_Server);

 ListStructItemInfo l_items = *new* ArrayListStructItemInfo();
 l_items.clear();
 StructItemInfo si = *new* StructItemInfo();
si.setName(HPD:HelpDesk); // This is what you want to export
* switch* (ObjectType) { // This isis from a function call - so you can
simply hard-code or what ever...
* case* StructItemInfo.*ACTIVE_LINK*: si.setType(StructItemInfo.*

CHAR_MENU*);ObjectName_str=MENU;*break*;

 l_items.add(si);

  *str_XML* = *cim_ARS*.exportDef(l_items,*true*); // XML if true -
DEF if false
 } *catch* (ARException e1) {
  e1.printStackTrace();
 }
} *catch* (ARException e) {
 e.printStackTrace();
}
So, you have the object(s) stored in a string - you can easily write to a
file, etc.

What I have is a little 'application' that has a form which contains the
stuff (object name / type, etc) and the java appl reads it in, and exports
it.

The troublesome field disappeared again, in spite of the fact that its name was
now User-ID. So I decided to start over. I copied the form over to a new
one, but still got USER_X: invalid identifier, when I tried to save a record.

So I started from scratch with a totally new form, and copied the fields over,
except for the trouble-maker. It I created from scratch.

SO FAR this has worked, but I'm still feeling apprehensive.

Thank you, everyone who replied with suggestions and info.

Delete the database view and add a new dummy (optional) field to the form.
ARS should re-create the database view whenever a database field is added or
removed from the form.

I spoke too soon.

Whenever I try to save an entry I still get ARERR [552] Failure during SQL
operation to the database : ORA-00904: USER_X: invalid identifier, even
when I delete the field entirely.

So I guess my only choice is to start over with a new form.

SSO Tomcat

2009-05-21 Thread Greg Donalson

Hi everyone,

I have a question concerning SSO and Tomcat and Remedy. We are running
Tomcat without IIS and have installed Remedy 7.0.1 (details below). I have
followed all the steps in the white paper for setting up SSO, but I think
there is an issue because we do not have IIS running. We are getting the
error SSO ERROR: RemoteUser name is null or empty. I have tried setting
this field on the login.jsp and it does come back as null and not as the
user that is logged into the windows machine. I think if I can somehow get
the RemoteUser populated or find some other attribute to use, then we will
be well on our way to having SSO implemented. I was wondering if anyone
else has run into this issue or has any thoughts on how to resolve this.
Thanks in advance!

Changing case of Login Id

2009-05-21 Thread Neha Singhal - VP

Hi Everyone,

We have some of the login ids in mixed cases, we need to standardize the

One approach, we tried is to use 'Authentication Login Name' field, but in
further testing we got some clichés in this approach.

Is there any other way to achieve it.
