Warren,
Depending on the number of reports and number of variables they want to search 
by.
You can build a display only form to run reports from
On the form a field to select (from a menu) pre-defined reports.
And Variable fields as need (ie. Start Date, End Date,  Assigned To, Category, 
ect...)
Use ALs to display the variable fields needed for the report selected.
Users fill in the variable fields and click a Run Report button.
Each report has a dedicated AL (Run if Qual) to Open Window (Report) 
Use the Variable fields to compose the Qualification for the report in the AL.

We just moved off of an ARS 6.3 client based installation.  I am now getting a 
ton of questions about reporting.  The Mid Tier manuals appendixes infer that 
you can still build reports with embedded qualifications that use parameters.  
However whenever I try to do it, I get an error.

I'd like to be able to do something like 'Submit Date' = $StartDateHere$ AND 
'Submit Date'  $EndDate+1Here$.

This was never an issue in the client, but now...whoo boy!  I've got a helpdesk 
staffer who is in charge of creating reports that he is sharing with his 
management, but they hate the fact that they have to run a search, select 
records, then choose a report.  They want to be able to just run the report 
from the report console and be prompted for the variables.

I know it's possible with the BIRT tool, but we're just not there yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Before you go bald
First check to make sure the temp variable is set.
Go to Start  Run  %TEMP% 
This should open an explorer window at C:\Temp
If it does, check the folder permissions 
You may need to also set the %TMP% variable
Same procedure as the %TEMP% variable

Set the initial size to 25 and max to 1800
Header State - Hidden
Panel State - Expanded
This will push all your collapsed panels up.
You may need to increase your Panel Holder height to 2025 in order to 
accommodate the footer height and avoid the scroll bar from appearing if all 10 
of your panels are expanded.

ARS 8.1 

1.  Make a regular form with all public permissions

2.  Add a Panel Holder to the form, splitter or collapsible and give it a 
height of 2000, 250 width, vertical orientation

(I use splitter but this happens with collapsible as well, tried that as a 
workaround.)

3.  Add 2 or more panels into the panel holder.

4.  Give each panel a minimum size of 25, initial size of 200, maximum size of 
200 ***this is the focus of this perceived bug writeup***

5.  Save the form and clear the cache on the web server

6.  Open the form and notice that the first panel expands WA past the 
defined size of 200 and takes up all the available space of the panel holder 
down to the second panel, which is regular/defined size.

In other words, the bug appears to be that the first panel is expanded to take 
up the entire height of the panel holder field.

It's not a functionality killer, but it is a BIG source of 
distraction/complaint by testers...whoa, why is this section so huge?

Good question.  I told the tool set to keep them small but it seems BMC has 
other ideas.  I wasted a half hour or so editing all the properties and 
permissions of the actual form and then set up a test form with generic objects 
and confirmed the behavior there as well.

How many MONTHS is Galileo release overdue now?

I've seen this on my system before and it was always with a field with no 
permissions assigned.
Flushing the cache resolves it sometimes, but I've seen it come back after 
subsequent flushes.

Try assigning an un-used permissions group to the field.

to suspect a problem with ARS itself not enforcing permission policies, and in 
fact the evidence (outlined above) would seem to suggest something wrong with 
QA's mid-tier.  But it IS an issue (to me) that the field is visible.

I've simplified my description here a bit and the problem does extend beyond 
what I've described here.  But my guess is that if I can solve this problem the 
other similar elements will resolve too.  Still, if appears relevant I can 
describe more details.

All of the servers and mid-tiers are running v8.1.01

Has anyone seen this before?  Any suggestions on how to fix this?  I haven't 
gone as far as uninstalling/reinstalling the mid-tier or tomcat yet, do anyone 
think this will help?

I had not tried clearing the tomcat cache
I created a group called Remedy Admin and assigned the permissions (assigning 
it to Administrator did not work)
At the time we were on 7.5 and I only noticed it on buttons and tab panels. 
I have not seen the issue since updating to 7.6.04

One idea would be to create an AL to hide the Attachment Pool  and place the 
user in the associated permission group.
If they need the ability to open/view attachments, you'll need to add 
additional workflow like a button to become visible that runs an AL process 
(PERFORM-ACTION-OPEN-ATTACHMENT)

You can create a form with the workflow (filters) actions you want to 
accomplish on you primary form
This form will act as you trigger
Set you Escalation to run on this trigger form.
The Escalation can have a Run If Qualification of something like 'Status' = 
Active
Then have part of the escalation action change the 'Status' to In-Active
The Escalation continues to run on its set interval but finds no entries to 
match its Qualification
Alternatively, you can have a couple escalations to change the trigger entry 
Status (1 to Activate, 1 to Deactivate)
This allows you to setup a window of time where the trigger can be active on a 
reoccurring basis.

For a Windows server
1. Login to the Virtual Server
2. Open the Properties of the Network adapter listed in Device Manager.
3. Select the Advanced Tab
4. In the Property list, select NetworkAddress
5. By default, the Value field is empty and Not Present is selected.
Enter the MAC address used for Remedy Licensing in the Value field
6. Save your changes

Remedy will now use this address as the Current Host ID in the License form, 
enabling the use of current Remedy License Keys.

Doug is correct
'field' LIKE %[^a-z A-Z0-9]% will allow users to search for a string with a 
space character.

You are restricting a lot more than just wildcards
If your intent is to only allow ALPHA NUMERIC (and spaces) in your searches 
then that will do it.
Keep in mind though, you're blocking searches on commonly used special 
characters like  @':.,#-
Searches for Its won't find It's and ' isn't one of your allowed characters.

which says to treat things

character or even the [ in case someone wanted to try a set of characters] but 
is that really necessary?  Isn't

NOTE: Both of these comments are how this should work and how I expect it to

You should be able to do this with a Completion rule and 2 Statistical Override 
Rules
The Completion Rule needs a Run if like (($Total Approved$ +  $Total Rejected$) 
=  $Total Signatures$)
The Statistical Override Rules (One Approved, One Rejected) will be dependent 
on if you still want the process rejected from 1 reject or a percentage of 
Rejects vs. Approvals or All must reject.
The following is from an All Must Reject 
Approve Statistical Override Run if: ($Total Approved$ +  $Total Rejected$ =  
$Total Signatures$)  AND $Total Rejected$ !=  $Total Signatures$
Reject Statistical Override Run If: $Total Rejected$ =  $Total Signatures$

coming from ARS 7.0.01.

 

 

Since I share a field, it become available on all the 5 pages.

As a workaround for this problem, I used a non-fancy way of working with Trim 
Box's components  to hide my Character Field in specific pages. 

 

 

AR Server 7.6.04 Patch 2

Oracle DB 11g (11.2.0.2.0) 64 bits

Mid-Tier 7.6.04

 

OBS: Trying to overlay components/forms to work on it using the new AR Server 
version (7.6.04)

Vincent,
If by Append Menu Values you are referring to the ability to select multiple 
values from the menu but not allow free text entry.

You could have a button display a Table (in a dialog window) with values 
equivalent to you menu
Allow multiple selections from the table
Do a table walk to compile selected values and place results in your Character 
field.
Add a couple change field actions to enable and disable access to the field at 
the beginning and end and it might be what you are looking for.

With the user tool only you might need to settle for resolved within 24 
hours
If the user works an 8 hour day you could set the resolved in less than to 8 
hours
This would eliminate any that were created one day but resolved the next day 
but within 24 hours.

If you set the field up as a normal Read/Write Character Field and set the 
group permissions to the field as Read
User in the group can read and search the field but not modify the content.
To keep the look and feel of read only,
Create a AL to change the field to Read Only
Execute on Display and Window Open
Run If: (($OPERATION$ = CREATE) OR ($OPERATION$ = SET)) OR ($OPERATION$ = 
SET ALL)

To allow yourself (or others) to modify the contents Create a second AL to 
change the field back to Read/Write

Read Only is only a client attribute only..push or set should work into it 
without issue.  What is the problem you are specifically having pushing into 
it?  You shouldn't need to push into another field and then set into this one.

I'm having problems pushing data directly to the Read Only field.  I think 
that's the problem.  I have to probably push it to another field on the form 
and the do a set fields to update the Read Only field.  

 

I'm testing this now.

 

All the other suggestions are good, but I want to keep the look and feel of 
this field as Read Only.  If I do what the others suggest, then the field will 
look as though it is writable.

I originally set up a character field as Read Only, when a customer is 
modifying or adding a record, they cannot change this field.  When they do a 
search on this form, a Change Action makes this field Read/Write.  (I don't 
want anyone to change it, but I don't mind if they search on the field).  Plus 
I don't want to make my users use the advanced search option, I want to make it 
easy.

 

Well, I need some workflow to update this field from time to time, but it won't 
let me because the field is Read Only.  No biggee, I'll just change this field 
to Display as Text.  (even though I don't like Display as Text sometimes, I 
always end up having to draw a little box around the field).  But there is no 
Change Action to turn off this Display as Text setting when the users are doing 
a search on the form.

 

Am I missing anything?  Is there an easy solution to this?
