Re: OT: Setting up a demo environment on LINUX..

2015-02-13 Thread Kevin Morgan
Joe,

Mine has the same processor and ram total. To keep it separate, I created a vm
with Windows 7 Pro, and gave it the use of 4 of the cores and 8gb of the ram. I
used the tomcat that comes with the mid-tier, and it all ran like a champ. I
did limit the sql server to only use 1.5gb of the ram, and it worked without
issues.

You don't need to set up a vm, I just did it to keep my remedy instance
separate from other processes on the laptop. That way, it was only using the
ram when I powered up the vm, rather than all the time.

Hope this helps!

I used a quad core i7 with 8gb ram in a vm on my laptop. Full ITSM and CMDB ran

Re: VM Image for remedy

2014-05-22 Thread Kevin Morgan
Sweety,

Yes, you can definitely take it with you on your laptop. I use VMWare on my
laptop. Create your VM. You can use Windows 7 Professional or Windows Server
2008 as the OS. They must be 64-bit. You will have to license this OS
separately just as if it were on your system. I would dedicate at least 8gb of
RAM, and at least a few processors to the VM. Mine is set up with 8gb RAM and
4 cores. While you do not need to have the same configuration as a server, you
do need to give it enough resources to run efficiently. Make sure you install
the 64-bit JDK (will also install the JRE for you) first, then your db of
choice (mine is MS SQL 2008), which will also need a license. If you run the
stack installer, it will give you everything you need - tomcat, web, etc. to
run Remedy. You will also need a Remedy license for your installation, if you
want to do any serious development work. Good luck!

Kevin

Subject: VM Image for remedy

Hi List,

I want to access remedy 24x7 and to achieve this Carl adviced me to create a VM
for remedy. I wonder how to do this and have couple of questions.

1) I want to carry the image with me all the time on my laptop, so do I need to
first install everything - database, java, tomcat, remedy on a single server?
2) Which is the best and free tool to create VM image? If it is not free then
suggest the best one, my organization is rich enough to pay for it.
3) Do I need to appy license for both Server and my laptop or just one license
is enought for remedy?
4) Is it required to have same hardware configuration for my laptop as that of
a server on which I created VM image?

Please provide your valuable suggestions and inputs. My requirement is I should
be able to access remedy 24x7 with the help of my laptop.

Daniel,

I used the preconfigured stack installer, and let it install Tomcat, and I
have it working well.

I am trying to get this running on my Windows 8 laptop.

(Windows 8,SQL2008, ARSystem 8.1, ITSM 8.1).

I have the ARSystem and ITSM Suite installed and running but I don't seem
to be able to get mid-tier installed and working correctly.

(install says it is there, but no login.jsp etc. for IIS ). It also doesn't
find my IIS as an available option.

Has anyone tried this? Any hints?

Thanks Daniel

Re: Modify All in CMDB

2012-03-21 Thread Kevin Morgan
Rick,

You didn’t mention which class these records were in, but most are in Base
Element. If sandbox mode is on, then a mass update of the proper BMC.CORE
form is the only way to do it. You can go directly to the specific class
e.g. BMC.CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem to do the search and update. This will
limit the number of records searched to just that class. You can then do
the modify all from there.

So if I am changing a field found in Base Element, I can do it there, but
if not, I need to do it in the BMC.CORE forms corresponding to the
subclasses, rather than the AST: forms?

That seems odd, since the records don't live in Base Element. I will give
it a shot, though.

I need to make a mass update to the CIs in my CMDB. Just one field, all to
the same new value. Just ise Modify All, right? Wrong. In Sandbox mode,
Modify All is disabled.

So I think what I have to do is create a new Sandbox dataset, pull a copy
of the master dataset into it, do the Modify All there, then promote the
changes.

I miss anything?

That apparently is as designed, since we have seen the same behavior. You
will have to create your own workflow to push the attachment over to the

Hi List;

I've found something and I need some clues to get this done. It happens
when users attach a file from the Request Entry form (either while creating
a New Service Request or updating and existing Service Request) on SRM. The
file is seen on the Service Request form, but not in the Incident
Management form (Work Info) the text is the same on both entries, but the
missing data is the attachment itself. Does anyone had seen this before?

Thanks.

I have added quite a few attributes to BaseElement without issue. It does
take time on a slow system to propagate to all the other classes, but should
work.
