Re: Mid-Tier Web Page is coming up blank

2008-10-28 Thread Mench, Ryan M (N-ISS)
I ran across something similar a few weeks ago after an upgrade. This
error will occur if there is a Active Link associated with the form
being opened which contains a Open Window action of type Report and the
Destination field in the Active Link contains a hard return control
character.

Look through your Active links and remove the hard return from the
Destination field (Note that the hard return shows as a solid black bar
in the AR System Administrator tool) to ensure that only a valid value
remains.

Yes there is source code behind the page.

I copied it and dropped it into a html file on my local machine and it
still showed up blank.

I did go through the net and look for something similar to this and I
did find something similar from back in 2005 and it was with 6.3 and it
was the same thing.

The lady said that it had to do with the extensions not being listed or
blocked in IIS.

Well I did check and correct that in IIS, yet the page still came up
blank.

With regards to the timezone, I changed my client pc timezone to GMT +10
Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney

And when I hit the web page, this is what it is showing as the time
zone:

usertimezone=Antarctica%2FDumontDUrville

For some odd reason, that just doesn't look correct

Is there source code behind the page? Or is there nothing coming back in
teh for of JScript and HTML tags?

I had this happen the other night. Upgraded MT, went to config page and
all was well. Then tried opening the Home page and got a blank screen,
but there was source code. After playing around for a few minutes I
decided to close all my browsers and try again. The next time it worked
and the home page came up.

Subject: Mid-Tier Web Page is coming up blank

**

All,

We recently installed Mid-Tier 7.1 Patch 3 on a box in Australia .

I can log into the configuration page and that comes up fine.

Yet when I try and go to an actual form, I get the little animated
Loading... gif, then it says downloading item 10 of 16 (in the lower
left corner of IE), it counts down to 1 of 16 then finishes.

Then in the lower left corner it says Done. Yet the Web Page is blank.
Nothing there, no errors, just a blank white web page.

The strange thing is we have this same Mid-Tier version installed on
other servers and all of them seem to work fine.

The odd things about this server are with IIS.

First it doesn't have the standard defaultWebSite it has something
else.

But that shouldn't matter as I've installed it under other Web Sites in
IIS and gotten it to work.

The other thing is, this has a specific IP specified in the Web Site
identification.

Yet I tried removing that and now luck either.

At this point I don't know where else to look to try and figure out why
this web page won't come up.

ARS 7.0.1 Patch 4

Windows 2003

SQL Server

Mid-Tier: 7.1 Patch 3

IIS 6

Apache/Tomcat 5.5

Any thoughts or suggestions on where to go from here with this issue
would be appreciated.

Thanks

Matthew Perrault

Re: Midtier 7.x opens blank (white) window

2008-10-03 Thread Mench, Ryan M (N-ISS)
A BMC KB article said this can occur if there is a Active Link
associated with the form being opened which contains a Open Window
action of type Report and the Destination field in the Active Link
contains a hard return control character.

I agree that this is the right track because I disabled all of my active
links, flushed the cache and the form opened. After returning the
active links to their original state I went through each active link in
my log file and was not able to find a active link which contains a Open
Window action of type Report.

Is there a way to search a def file that contains a destination value
or a Open Window action of type Report?

I created an active link which contains an open window action type of
report and compared it to one (def file) that that does not contain a
report and did not see a visible difference.

Folks - I'm driving myself bonkers on this and would really appreciate
your feedback. I Have a form that opens in Midtier as a blank (white)
window. The workflow contains an active link that opens it in a submit
window. I recently upgraded from ARS 5.x to 7.01 and used the 7.x import

Environment:

WIN2K3

Oracle 9i

IE 6.0.3

ARS 7.01 patch 9

Midtier 7.01 patch 8

Tried earlier midtier 7.x and server versions

Tried Tomcat 5.5.17 (default) and upgraded to 6.0.18

JRE/JDK version 1_4_2_16 and upgraded to 1_5_0_16

Increased Java memory to various ranges

Cleared IE cache/flushed midtier cache

Resaved the form

Renamed the form to remove the :

Rebuilt the AL that fires the open window

Here is the funny thing (not funny ha-ha), copying the existing form to
a new form does work, however changes to workflow will be a substantial
effort and only want to do this as a last resort. I've also considered
beating my fists on the floor, but I would like to wait on that as well.

Symantic Endpoint Protection

2008-05-19 Thread Mench, Ryan M (N-ISS)
My customer wants to integrate Symantic EndPont Protection 11 on an ARS
5.1.2 server/Oracle 9i DB. During testing we concluded that the AR
system license tool (a flashback for most of you I'm sure) will not
accept a new license even though the license is valid. Classic error
that reads Invalid license key. Please provide a valid license key -
[ARERR 8947]. I should note that we were able to add licenses after
removing Symantic EndPont Protection 11.

Has anyone on the list experienced this on any other versions of ARS,
and is there a fix out there? Upgrading ARS is not an option at this
time. Thanks!

Re: Ghosting remedy server

2007-09-04 Thread Mench, Ryan M (N-ISS)
Ghost works well as long as the server you are moving to mirrors the
server the image came from (E.g. same model, hardware, drive size,
firmware, etc.) Also, Ghost will not work on servers with a RAID
controller. I would suggest using NetBackup if you happen to find
yourself in that situation.

We have this environment set up on a test server and this will shortly
become our production system. We will then need to quickly build a
development serer. To redo all these installs and scripts to make ITSM
6 work with CMDB 2 would take days and days of effort. We would like to
take this test server and use it to ghost the new development server and
then do a database copy from the current test server to the new
development server. Obviously we would have to get the proper licenses
for the development server.

We anticipate that we may have issues with tables pointing to the wrong
server. Are there other likely issues? Is this a reasonable approach?
Has anyone successfully done this before?

Per chance, is the tabless borderless page fields option set on the
form?

In the 7.0.1 p2 user tool patch, they had this listed as one of the
defects:

SW00257841 A tabless/borderless page field will not have the labels

This may or may not be an issue in the 6.3 series.

Hi All,

I was searching through the ARS List and found this email. We are
currently on Sun Solaris 8, ARS 5.1.2 and Oracle 9i(2). We plan on
moving to new hardware/server for everything - Remedy Server, Database
Server, etc.. We were hoping of moving to Oracle 10g and keeping our
current version of Remedy 5.1.2 and Sun Solaris 9(should not matter,I
guess). We then hope to do the upgrade of Remedy to 6.3 later on...
There are some business reasons for doing so...

Do you see any issues with this ?? Have you done this approach before ??

One thing that jumps out to me is that Oracle 10g uses ONLY Cost-based
optimization and NOT rule-based - will that be an issue when moving from
9i to 10g on 5.1.2 Remedy Server ??

Would appreciate your input on this.

thanks, Cherian

It's also important to first have your script deinstall the 5.1.2 client

You specify in the silent install .iss file where you want the Home

use the same directory structure.

We decided here that for all machines the Home directory was to be at
the location C:\Program Files\Remedy\Home whether it was a shared
machine or not.

**

Hello everyone:

I'm wrestling with how best to push the 6.3 User tool across my
enterprise. We have literally hundreds of users, so we're thinking of
doing an automated push via SMS to replace the existing 5.1.2 client
with the 6.3 client. I have the whitepaper that describes setting up a
silent install of the client, which looks good, but what concerns me is
it looks like on Windows it wants to create the home directory to the
following location:

C:\Documents and Settings\rho\Application Data\user_ID\AR System\Home

Where user_ID is the user currently logged on. That's fine and good
for machines with single users, but I'm concerned about machines with
many users. For example, we have several Help Desks where the analysts
do not have designated machines-they rotate from machine to machine.
Moreover, in the 24 hour shops, the day crew guy logs off and the mid
crew guy takes his place and logs on to the same shared workstation.
This installer looks like it wants to create the Home directory in one
user's folder space, which might be fine for the person who installs the
client, but what about the guy who comes after him and tries to use
Remedy? Won't it try to use the Home directory in the first guy's folder
structure?

Thanks,

Norm
