There is no additional workflow required for basic user authentication to login

Also - does pentaho/spoon utilize the AIE Engine or since it is a client

I am looking at this from a server grouping perspective, should we use the

Integrator does indeed utilize some other engine?

Sorry for the million questions in one post.

Aditya:

From everything I know about SLM (and I will acknowledge that I am no expert),
what you are asking about is not really what SLM is intended for. That's going
to put a lot of load on the system to do something like that, and in general,
it's a good idea to keep your number of SLM targets minimized. I'm sure that
others here on the list can probably explain better than I can why that's so.

Something we did to help our users keep their tickets updated in a timely
manner is add the Last Modified Date to the Incident Console so that they can
sort on that value and easily see which tickets need to be updated. Then it's
up to the team leads and team managers to periodically check those values for
their group and follow up with the Assignees to update their tickets. I know
you are working with the Work Order module and not the Incident Console, but I
believe the Last Modified Date is a standard field on any Remedy form.

Your users could also run reports or set up an advanced search to show them any
ticket with a Last Modified Date prior to the previous day. If you have
Analytics for reporting, you could set up a report with that qualification and
a prompt for the Assigned Group and automatically publish it daily for any
group(s) that wanted to see a list of their non-compliant tickets.

I hope you are able to find a good solution,

What workflow changes you are exactly referring to. If it is the customization

In ROD customers initiate the customizations they want to do and hire BMC

If any customization is introduced by BMC as an additional functionality or

Customers are given full access to development environment; customer
development team, those can be BMC professional services, external consulting
partners or customer's Remedy knowledgeable staff. All dev work done on DEV
environment are migrated to QA and PROD env by BMC Operations staff who are
actual admins of these cloud hosted sites. Since BMC owns the availability SLAs
for PROD site, no one other then BMC Ops can make any change in QA or PROD
themselves and so is the access restriction policy is there.

All customizations developed on DEV are reviewed by Customization Review Board
(CRB) to make sure this is a valid customization and will survive future
upgrades and does not have adverse impacts on environment performance. Once
approved by CRB, customer's can raise Support ticket requesting the
customization migration to other environments. No customization is promoted and
not approved by CAB (Change Review Board) until they are approved through CRB.

Overlay Group property does not reflect immediately and takes some time, I
had to restart AR Services to get the changes reflected immediately.

I am now looking for what setting is controlling this change not to reflect
immediately.

Jason - thanks for your views, my main intention behind this implementation is
to completely lock base mode from developers to make sure no development
happens in base mode and customization is preserved in upgrade. I agree we may
need to make changes like hotfix etc directly in Base Mode, whenever we have
such requirement to apply a patch we can unlock base Mode for limited period
while making that change and then lock back again, a simple update command from
DB should do that trick.

I don't have an answer to your question but have been considering the same
thing for our environment. Since we have an older system (7.6.04) where we
work solely in Base mode and 8.x where we use Best Practice mode it is easy
to be in the wrong mode for an environment. I have been considering
enforcing Best Practice mode as you describe.

Something to consider and one reason why I haven't pursued it yet is lately
we have been making changes that are valid in Base mode. Things like
applying hotfixes and BMC recommended changes based on current known
issues. We fully intend for these changes to be overwritten by BMC in the
future so we make them in Base mode.

thinking out loud

From what you have mentioned it sounds like my team would have to remove
ourselves from the Administrator group; which I don't think is necessarily
bad. Maybe we should set this up and when somebody needs to make a change
in Base mode they would have make the conscious decision of adding them
self to the Administrator group in order to use Base mode. That or they
would need to use Demo but I am not sure I want to encourage that.

/thinking out loud

Thanks for starting this discussion that I am sure a few of us have been
curious about but haven't really looked into yet.

Hi Listers,

I am trying to restrict changes done by Developers directly in Base Mode. I
am trying to use Overlay Group property on Group form.
It doesn't work for Administrator Group (Group ID = 1). I guess since
Administrator is a super user and has all right to do anything on AR Server
this is not working. Thoughts?

Although, the Overlay Group filed on Group form gets disabled for few
groups including Administrator, but I enabled it to check if I can make
it work. I can now set Overlay Group = 1 for Group ID=1 but Admin users can
still access Base Dev Mode.

If I set OverLay Group = 1 for any other group, ex- ASE-Administrator, and
add this group permission to the Admin user I am using, it works and I am
not able to switch to Base Development Mode.

Is it possible to make it work by directly restricting Admins to do any
change in Base Development Mode?

*Disable-Client-Operation* directive in ar.conf

you can disable it for all, but members of a specific group. ie - all
others are made members of allow-midtier-access group (lets say gid =
9000), except the user you want to disallow, and you add
Disable-Client-Operation: 9 9000,1
that should solve your problem without workflow.

Client tool I do not only refer to User Tool.. It can be dev studio, spoon
client, import tool etc.. this solution if possible through a non-workflow
mechanism can help in preventing unnecessary login through generic accounts
over web URL which is available over internet.. Client tools access we can
restrict through VPN or other ways. If there can be a mechanism to blacklist
some accounts to login through web; This can be one of the major security

Hi Listers,

I have a requirement to prevent a particular user to be able login through
mid tier but same user should be able to login to client tools. Has anyone
implemented such requirement? What can be the best way to achieve this?

Specifically looking for a non-workflow mechanism.

That is just an example.. Yes everything is password protected always.

If I had an admin guy who knows one of the generic admin account present on the
system and guy is now not part of organization, but he still can access the
company URL through internet.. as the generic account may be used by several
people at a time and those passwords may not be changed so frequently. May be
too complex or have limitations for non-workflow implementation but this is a
very genuine use case.

First of all why is your Demo user not password protected? That's a bad bad
thing..

No other user on your system except your admins should have admin access
rights.

Configure your system that no guest users are allowed to login - simple
check box on the server information page..

Plus you can use any combination you are comfortable with on suggestions
given on this thread..

For ex.

User- Demo
Is default admin account, not all thousands of user has access to dev studio
or client tool in cloud world, but if somehow that account is left as it is
and randomly some guy try to login to the URL with this and able to get in,
no wonder there is an easy chance he can blow up configs and inturn the
system if he want's ;)

So just looking for all possible ways to prevent such situations.

We do have workflow mechanism implemented, but non-workflow can make it more
portable to add or remove such restrictions for multiple users easily.

Thanks for all suggestions.

Client tool I do not only refer to User Tool.. It can be dev studio, spoon
client, import tool etc.. this solution if possible through a non-workflow
mechanism can help in preventing unnecessary login through generic accounts
over web URL which is available over internet.. Client tools access we can
restrict through VPN or other ways. If there can be a mechanism to blacklist
some accounts to login through web; This can be one of the major security
requirements to make sure Admin accounts are not misused.

Why would you have such a requirement though when the future versions does

This is a workflow mechanism - it will be impossible to do it with a non

Re: Active Directory Integration Problem

2013-03-20 Thread SUBSCRIBE arslist Aditya Sharma
The best practice is to bring data from AD over to vendor form, then push that
data as it is on a regular form (staging), do all these validation on staging
form.

You have to build your logic like when your data is being pushed to staging
form for every record you have to query vendor table such that manager's dn
equals diastinguished name and set the manager login I'd as Manager's login
equal unique attribuye of AD (sAMAccountName or uid).

Now when you will push this managers I'd to people form, for the first sync
certain records will error, those will be the ones whose manager record is not
created before the reportees record is getting created. After second sync all
managers should go in successfully.

Hi,

I am developing code for data in AD to sync with People record. So in that
process i am struck with a small problem.

I created a vendor form to bring the LDAP data and creating a escalation to
push new records into People form. But in the vendor form i only have a Manger
name but i don't have a ManagerLoginId, which i need to push into People
record. If i try to Push just the Manager Name leaving Manager Login Id to Null
its throwing a error. Its working fine if i leave both Manager Login ID and
Manger Name to Null. But i do need to get both of them to complete this task.

So can you give me some ideas to get pass through this problem.

Hi Rezaul,

I am not sure about blinking but we do have something which can change the
color for row/column.

How it works:

There is one display property called colors-Result colors in table which
works only on selection field(take this selection field in your table as a
column ) .In this property you can define color for every value of
selection field.

But you need to write a change action for refreshing the table(in Active
link ) in order to change the color for the row or column.

Hi,

What version of remedy you are on?
From 7.6 version onwards whenever a entry is created in user form,
corresponding entry is auto created on User Preference form.

Regards,
Aditya

Hi all,

In our server,AR System user Preference form contains entries of those users
who are not logging onto AR User tool via preference server option.

Can you please let me know how their accounts are getting created if they are
not using preference server option while logging?

Regards
Robin

Subject: How to transmit data from external application to Remedy

Hi Everyone,

We have an external application outside BMC Remedy, which is developed
in .NET C-Sharp and running in a browser.

In this application we have already loaded a Remedy form in a web
browser control.

The challenge now is that we want to transmit data from the external
application to a field in the BMC Remedy form.

It must NOT be done via an URL with parameters, so we think that we
need to use some JSP or c# script.

Please help?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Mr. Tee

All,
I saw some comments concerning Remedy OnDemand from back in 2011. I am hoping
to get some other feedback from current customers of this platform or customers
that were investigating this and decided to stay on site. How is performance?
Any limitations you have found after rolling it out? Any other information
that you would like to share is appreciated.

Thank You,
Brandi

Hi,

The error clearly indicates it cannot find the certificates.
You have to install Certificates on your AR server Java keytool. Let me know if
you need exact steps I will elaborate more.

Aditya
