Email Engine Service question

2009-02-20 Thread Andrew Fremont
Hi,

Our email services has stopped, and we couldn't restart it with the
following error:

The BMC Remedy Email Engine service on Local Computer started and then
stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for
example, the Performance Logs and Alert service.

We found out that the IT group removed the java jre1.5.0_10 from the box,
and installed a newer java version jre6.
For some ridiculous reasons, IT group does not now allow us to reinstalled
jre1.5.0_10 This is the version we have on the server when the email
installed and it work fine.

Is there a way to re-config or point the Remedy Email Engine to use the new
java version without reinstall the Email?

Thanks,
Andrew

You didn't specify operating system but in Windows Server, you just go into the
registry and update the Java path under the Email Engine settings. We have to
do this every time a new version of Java must be installed.

...\KHEY_LOCAL)MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\BMC Remedy Email
Engine..\Parameters
Update the JVM Library parameter.

Then drill down to your ..\AR System\AREmail\... installation folder and update
the EmailStart.bat and EmailStop.bat files with the new path.

Re: Email Engine Service question

2009-02-20 Thread LJ Longwing
I just did this to my dev box last week. You need to go into the registry
of the email engine box, and find (sorry, I forget the keys) that are
pointing at the old jre and point them to the new one, or you could
reinstall the email engine which should get the new version and update the
appropriate registry key

Andrew,

I had to do this to fix some emailengine issues. But we are on a Window
box... So if you are on one too this is how I did it:

Edit EmailStart.bat to show the new java path

Edit the registry Hkey_Local_Machine/System/currentcontrolset/services/BMC
email engine/parameters edit the path of the JVM librairy to the new
path
