Re: [Asterisk-Users] Outbound Caller ID on PRI

2005-02-14 Thread Kimble Young
Hi,
I'd like to add to that answer. Try just sending the phone number
without any area code - eg 8617-2169

When calls come in on DID numbers they are always minus areacode so it
would go without saying that they should be sent out the same way.

Just adding my 2 cents..
I have used PCI cards before that say PCI 2.2 on them (not specifying

Note: These were not digium cards.

The Digium web site says that the card is PCI 2.2 Compliant, which

The data sheet states In Hardware and Software Requirements:

I would think if PCI 2.2 is required that such facts would be included
in the requirements section of the data sheet. If indeed PCI 2.2 *is*
required then Digium should carefully change their pre-sales

So my question remains: Is PCI 2.2 a requirement to use the TDM400P

difference when using PCI 2.1?

Re: [Asterisk-Users] AU PSTN Tone / Progress Detection

2004-11-14 Thread Kimble Young
Stuart,
Just use ISDN BRI. Only a few dollars more per month for 2 lines of ISDN
than one phone line. There is certified equipment for Australia such as
the fritz! and others.

POTS can be very unreliable in terms of quality and , of course, tone
detection. Call progress is spot on perfect with ISDN. You can play
music or a ringing tone to the caller until the exact moment the other
end picks up.

Hi,
Just wondering whether or not anyone in Australia has been able to get /
create an accurate (or semi-accurate) tone detection system. I need to
know when calls don't connect because the line is busy or they ring out,
and as stated in the documentation the callprogress=yes in zapata.conf
is pretty experimental.

My main problem is that when using the built in call progress indicator,
it doesn't correctly detect the answered call unless the person on the
other end has a pretty loud voice and answers several seconds before the
channel is due to hang up because there has been no answer.

I would appreciate any help that we can get on this one as the only
other choice we have is to go to PRI / E1 which is a more expensive way
of dealing with the problem.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] Diva Server PRI/E1-30

2004-09-23 Thread Kimble Young
You can use a Diva server with Asterisk. Install the CAPI drivers from
Eicon and then compile chan_capi.

What you want to do with faxes is have them processed onboard like you
said. Use capi4hylafax.

Do you use DIDs or MSNs for your numbers? Either way, you'll need to
have Asterisk pick up some of the numbers and capi4hylafax pick up the
others. This way they will cooperate with each other.

The AVM B1 has firmware which will allow it to work in Euro or USA ISDN
mode.

As for the interface I'm sure you just need some sort of SBUS/S0 to U
Interface connector. Or buy a B1 that's meant for the US market.

It's a great card. Little expensive new though.

The ISDN cards that are so popular with Asterisk have an S/T
interface, which is fine where they're used -- Europe. In the US, we
need a U interface. Also, I've been told that certain EuroISDN cards
can't be used in the US because they use E1 signalling (which I don't

With chan_capi your only real choice is the fritz or an eicon diva server.

If you thought the fritz was expensive then close your eyes for the diva. I
think the 2 channel BRI card is about $1500 here.

You might want to try ebay. You can pickup a fritz for less than 20 Euros
I'm sure.

Hello all,

I was wondering if anybody knows where one might obtain a PCI ISDN
card supporting a single BRI for use with Asterisk in Australia (and
using something like chan_capi).

Because of the Isdn4Linux DTMF issue, I don't want one of those cards.
I've already spent too much time messing about with my current card.

I'm after something like the AVM Fritz! cards. I found one place that
sells them, but when comparing to the prices they're available for
overseas the pricing seemed a bit high.

Other than that - if anybody has any recommendations for reasonably
priced cards, I'm open to suggestions.

If it's not possible - does anybody have any recommendations for
retailers overseas? Some searching has found retailers in Germany with
the information in German, but as I've only just started learning
German I wouldn't be too comfortable constructing a query/etc.

Thanks,

Rob,

Caller ID all depends on which hardware you're using.

I can say that if you're using chan_capi (for CAPI compatible ISDN hardware)
caller ID works perfectly.

You'll find getting it working is highly dependant on which hardware and
therefore channel driver you're using.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Oz ISDN

2004-07-12 Thread Kimble Young
David,

If you go the analogue route:

* You'll get poor audio compared to ISDN which is crystal.
* Each number will act like a seperate line unlike with an ISDN card where
you can receive two calls simultaneously on the same line.
* You'll lose cool ISDN features like call deflection.
* It won't be as reliable (speculation).
* It'll probably cost just as much for two analogue cards as a fritz card.

On the positive side you won't have to go through a lot of frustration
getting the fritz working.

In summary using an analogue adaptor on ISDN rather defeats the purpose of
ISDN.

In Australia, Telstra, the local telco provides isdn modem for isdn

My question is that will it be possible to use Zaptel TDM02B to connect
to the analogue jack instead of getting a fritz card to do the
telephony. Will there be less feature if doing so?

RE: [Asterisk-Users] OZ ISDN

You can connect to the internet via CAPI and even have it dynamically
add/drop channels as calls are setup/pulled down by other applications. As
for how to do it I have no idea because I have no need for that type of
setup.

It's not that hard to install and configure the card with capi. It's more
that you may run into difficulties and trying to find the info required to
fix them is a task.

I'm pretty sure everything you need can be achieved through purely CAPI
interfaces. There's a lot of info out there if you search for fritz capi ppp
on google.

You are absolutely spot on. I am hesitated by the sheer amount of
configuration with the ISDN driver.

The actual implementation is actually even a bit of complicated. The
ISDN is used primarily for internet connection and voip from an
Australian provider. In that case I need to use whatever driver to
intiate dail up to the internet. Will it be isdn4l in this case. Now if
and when internet is down for whatever reason, asterisk can still
perhaps use the capi driver to connect calls.

I don't have much experience in isdn at all. I am not sure where such
setup can be done simitaneously. It would be nice if someone can point
me to the right direction.

The Telstra connection already come with Nt1 +11 modem and I have
already got pretty good doc to set it up with redhat 9.0. So I don't
have to worry about isdn stuff. I wish to go the correct route which is
using Fritz card to do this but I am afraid it is not possible.

Clint - Yes.

But it's not chan-capi that you need to worry about, it's the cards that
CAPI supports.

An AVM Fritz does work in Australia, visit www.avm.de for the local

Other cards I am not sure about but can't see any problems as Telstra uses
the Euro ISDN standard. So theoretically any card supporting this standard
would work.

Hello all,

I just subscribed to this list and I hope this is the correct place to

Today I checked out asterisk via cvs and I was able to compile, to

compile it, too.
Unfortunately I get an error in line 1205 when compiling chan_capi.c :

I guess I shouldn't use asterisk's cvs-head with chan_capi 0.3.3.
So which version of asterisk should I check out?
Or does anyone have another solution or workaround for this problem?

I've managed to use GhoustScript (gs) to take a postscript file and

 fteTYGeh2v.tif:

Notice the Page Number: info. I've heard there's a lot of software out

 experiencing or no.

is listed in Yellow pages as management consultants (??) and when I called
quoted almost $400.

Does anyone know where I can get the AVMs in Australia a bit cheaper or
another card (not the Netjet) that works with Asterisk.

Regards,

Kimble.
