USB audio devices can take audio and process it on their own CPU instead of requiring it in raw formats. Some PCI audio cards can do this too though. Basically the difference should be negligible. :-) -A. ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation provided by Easynews.com -- Asterisk-Users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

Well, IMO if the soundcards are already crap to start out with, there's no way a fancy-schmancy USB headset -- or any other headset, for that matter -- will sound good when plugged in to the laptop. Because, remember, it's the soundcard that generates the audio and sends it out the heaphone port. E no - that's the point of using a USB headset - it has soundcard functionality built-in and doesn't use the on-board card. I don't quite follow you? There are USB headsets that don't require a soundcard at all. They have a built in soundcard which (I suppose) could be better than the crap they build into most laptops. The USB driver generates a stream which is sent to the USB headset, which then makes it in to sound. The soundcard has nothing to do with that. (Otherwise, how can they work on soundcard-less machines, like my old DELL?) If the source is bad (for instance the crappy soundcard) then the USB headset won't make a difference. I have a logitech USB headset and a labtec USB headset, and love both. The Logitech has better audio though, so when using it to listen to music, etc., you'd better be looking at something similar. Or get a USB audio-device with input/output jacks, so you can plug in whatever you want... -- Francesco ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation provided by Easynews.com -- Asterisk-Users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

I really like the Passport and Blueparrot line from VXI. They have plugs for all the current crop of IP phones and they have an USB adaptor so you can plug them into your PC. They have good sound quality and echo cancellation microphones. The Blueparrot is wireless and also supports Bluetooth. -- Carlos Chavez Director de Tecnología Telecomunicaciones Abiertas de México S.A. de C.V. [Asterisk-Users] USB Headsets (Plantronics DSP-400)
Hello all, I'm thinking about getting the Plantronics DSP-400 headset for use with Xlite softphone. I currently have a analog headset that does NOT have a DSP on board, which gives me mediocre call quality and echo when talking to the PSTN thru my X100P card. I have zero echo when talking thru my X100P on my cordless phones attached to the Digium TDM400P. Before I got spend the money I was wondering if others using USB headsets with a DSP and getting good results? My thought was thought by using a headset with a DSP on board the echo would go away? Any advice on which USB headset in general to use with a softphone?
