Mt9 is not a replacement for stems. Its a single file with more than two channels. And iusing a program you are able to mess with the channels.

Yeah, I'm definitely getting the monopoly vibe here. I decided to send a request for a JFW license. If I get a free copy of 18 that's cool. If not, I don't really care. I know I'm definitely not buying any SMA upgrades unless I have a very good reason. JFW has a few interesting features, but it's definitely not worth $1000. I'm just concerned about the future. NVDA is the only other major competitor now. SuperNova isn't all that popular and I think System Access is even less. Of course, Microsoft might really turn the tables if Narrator continues improving. I just wish I never purchased Window-eyes. At the time I thought that since it was a commercial product, it must be good. I was an idiot.

Yeah, but even then, there'd still be Wendy's, Backyard Burger, Sonic, Waterburger, Cheeburger, and so on to Infinity and Beyond. Meanwhile, this leaves NVDA and Supernova and System Access, and that's effectively it. And I hadn't even heard of any of those before 2010, where I was aware of Window Eyes and Connect Out Loud by 2001. I'd say this is more like Microsoft buying Apple and discontinuing OSX.

Nah, I just said that the guy noting it Down had written the higher notes as bolt letters, which I have no idea how to tell apart from regular Capital ones...Probably a way though O.ONot a problem though, there's another version below, with the lower notes being upper case, and the higher ones being lower case, so it's all good.Gotta Wonder which song used the melody first though, Master McGrath is about 40 years older, but it is also often sung to another tune... *Ponder ponder*

Much research was done although little was learnt,But the hours well spent did give this in return.So for those that are curious to give it a try,Here are lyrics and chords for old Master McGrath.Turned out I only had to ask in a Skype Group chat I'm part of and afterwards spend a couple of hours looking into the song posted above. Greetings!This time I need some assistence regarding the VIP MUD client itself.My operating system is a 64 bits Windows 8.1.For playing MUDs, I am mostly using VIP MUD client v2.0.Since some of my favorite MUDs, like Discworld and Materia Magica, require a registered version of this MUD-client, I payed for its registration to GMA Games a couple of days before,(it was their site I downloaded the program from round a month ago), and the process seemed to function just fine, only a few minutes after my PayPal payment, my VIP MUD program got registered, it only asked for my registration name at its start, (just like before), and after I inserted it, I received no more demo-related warnings when running it. )ever again since that very moment)For my logic, it is obvious that the program got registered, I just find it a bit strange, how the process happened this fast, and why I was asked no personal ID, code, or serial number, which were sent to me in emai
 l a few hours later, but I asked around inside certain MUD communities, and other mudders approved, that this is the way how the process usually works with VIP MUD.However, asuming my registration is indeed complete and successful, I have the following issue with my VIP MUD copy:According to the so called, TTS Discworld soundpack instalation instructions for VIP MUD v2, there are supposed to be 3 files in the original VIP MUD installation folder, (which is by default inside C:/Program Files (x86) directory), 3 files, which are supposed to be copied to the VIP MUD directory located in" my (users) Documents" folder.I noticed, that 2 of those listed files already exist in both of the mentioned folders, wile the 3rd one is completely missing from both of them.Since I still do have problems, or at least issues regarding the Discworld TTS soundpack, (for example neither ignoring, nor playing sounds of classes is functioning, not even gag-settings in gene

Greetings!This time I need some assistence regarding the VIP MUD client itself.My operating system is Windows 8.1.For playing MUDs, I am mostly using VIP MUD client v2.0.Since some of my favorite MUDs, like Discworld and Materia Magica, require a registered version of this MUD-client, I payed for its registration to GMA Games a couple of days before,(it was their site I downloaded the program from round a month ago), and the process seemed to function just fine, only a few minutes after my PayPal payment, my VIP MUD program got registered, it only asked for my registration name at its start, (just like before), and after I inserted it, I received no more demo-related warnings when running it. )ever again since that very moment)For my logic, it is obvious that the program got registered, I just find it a bit strange, how the process happened this fast, and why I was asked no personal ID, code, or serial number, which were sent to me in email a few ho

Until recently, i couldn't get judgment day and superliam to work in windows 10.i have been running insider builds from the start.Maybe the games will work on the newest non insider preview release.i can tell you they absolutely do work on windows 10 insider build 16191.1003I tried to play judgment day and got the message, you can't play until you run the configuration and enter your name.I did and it worked.I tried superliam and it worked as well.fantastic wonderful

Here is the comment I left on the blind bargains article about this very thing. I am not sure if it went through. what does everyone else here think?In one sense this is sad news indeed, but on the other hand it was expected that something like this would happen. After all, one company like BFO cannot be expected to sell two software packages that does roughly the same thing. In a way, I liked some of the features that WwindowEyes had in it. For example, take a look at the scripting language of WwindowEyes. You could use some of what you knew already of other computer languages and the like into account when scripting WindowEyes. I doubt that the scripting of WindowEyes will not be carried over. I am used to JAWS myself, but those who are transferring over maybe not be used to it. I do wonder how hard it would be for those people to transfer over. The next to go maybe magic or zoom text. I will let others decide which one of those mak

Well, I am definitely not surprised about this. Window Eyes had been declining in popularity for quite awhile, and, of course, when VFO came into existance, everybody knew one of the major screen readers had to go. And, well, most of us knew which was considered the weaker of the two. Still, this does feel sort of like a bullying tactic. I'm glad I switched to using NVDA. Now I only have to watch from the sidelines, and I don't have to feel betrayed by this bullshit.

What jobs are you referring to that are only available in California? I find this statement hard to believe. Perhaps you mean that there's a higher concentration of businesses in the profession you're interested in?Either way, discrimination exists everywhere. It's just a fact of life. I hate it, too, but as long as humans are flawed, there will always be negative things like biases and bigotry. Of course, there are better and worse places, as everyone has said in this topic. For example, if you happen to live in a rural area, as I do, you're going to be more restricted, and you're going to encounter a lot more people who discriminate against you. However, speaking as someone who has close friends from other countries, I can say that I sometimes feel terrible when I unwittingly make a remark that, according to some, can be construed as me waving my American privilege around. I hate myself when this happens; I happen to be a very empathetic person by
  nature, and I try to be understanding of circumstances and what leads people to be as they are, culturally, personally, and otherwise. So, I feel that I have more of a balanced view than some of what it means to endure hardships, even if I can only understand some of what I've heard intelectually. It matters to me when those I care about suffer; thus, I do whatever I can to understand just what is causing them pain. At the same time, I also try to understand what is considered normal from a cultural perspective. I've been known to do extensive research on a culture if I feel I need to know about it for the sake of a solid friendship with someone else.I think, if there's a point to all of this rambling besides the fact that I can identify with a lot of the sentiments expressed in this topic, even if I don't necessarily agree with how they're being expressed, it's that there is good and bad in everyone and everything. There is so much more I could say, so many more personal experiences I could relate that would paint a clearer picture of just what I've seen and known intimately. Those details would make for a juicy story, no doubt, but what actually matters is that sometimes, what someone thinks they want at the time isn't what turns out to be best for them. Everything you do in life has consequences, for you and for everyone around you. And no matter what you do, you're probably going to leave a trail of tears in your wake.

This whole "story" is simply that Fraunhofer is no longer collecting royalties on the use of the format. I dispute the view that MP3 is obsolete, even if it isn't the most advanced technology there is, on the theory of its sheer and more-or-less complete ubiquity on any and every platform there is, including embedded ones. But, realistically, between the availability of higher-quality alternatives and the heavy dominance of streaming, really Fraunhofer has made all the money they can from this.So, really, it's actually good news, and not the doom and gloom it's being reported as. Rejoice! Now you can use MP3 without a licence. Yay!

@12 really?Barnacules is my favorite youtuber, he is legit, and comes from 15 years of Microsoft employment, many of those years being spent as a senior developer. He has written parts of windows, he has written automation tools that test windows for bugs and analyzes code. They laid him off with 180,000 other people just because, Microsoft. Now he speaks out that he is no longer under NDA, and no longer under a non-compete contract. He is telling us exactly what they're doing, and he's not happy with the direction Microsoft is taking. So yeah, this is legit, and it means bad things in the future if they keep on this road.

Just tested quickly and its accessible. It lets you make gamebook style games but don't think you can set stats, dice rolls and other gamebook elements. The editor operates through their site www.playgray.com and uses links and edit boxes for modifying the game. It looks like there is some content already present when you start to create a new game which sort of gives you context for how to create though it seemed fairly straightforward. Since the games themselves are played through the echo they are voiced by Alexa so that aspect is accessible as well. You can play games at random; I tried a couple and most so far are fairly quick and recognition has been good for choices on most. The only time I had recognition issues was for a game that used more lengthy  choices; most kept choices to three words or so.

OK, now I tried again and it is working, cool. So one thing that keeps happening is that in firefox, it wants to heavily lock down the keyboard, so its hard to get out of, even putting NVDA in browse mode doesn't always work. can we have an edit box on the screen that we can tab to, and review, because also, as you type, you can't review it to see if you made any errors. Also, somehow I keep going back one page, I think sometimes if I hit backspace this will occur if for some reason it wasn't in  focus, I am alt tabbing back and forth bewtween the game engine in firefox, and the PDF manual which I've got loaded in Chroem. But yeah, the nvda is a lot better than the sapi, and I'm glad that's working, it will be even better if we can have it just send text to nvda without those dialog boxes, but i understand this is all new, aand I think accessibility stuff can be tricky.

If you have a current Window-Eyes, you can get a current JAWS. And if you have SMA counts, they'll transfer. Check out the podcast on the linked page.I found Window-Eyes far more stable than JFW. YMMV. I don't think FS will be giving JFW away though, not even to free Window-Eyes users for Office (apparently, the contract is winding down and MS were sponsoring it more-or-less exclusively).

All I'll say is good riddance to that crummy screen reader. It wasn't worth the $1200 we spent on it. It crashed a lot and seemedly generally unstable. I wonder if I could get me a free copy of JFW? I own Window-eyes 9.2 or something like that, but we quit paying for the upgrades so I'll probably be stuck on Jaws 18. Then again, I don't really like Jaws.

Glad the podcast was useful. I really should do more. I have done them thus far for smugglers 3, smugglers 5, one very old one for the fighting fantasy project website, and one for the defunct game xhour (check the respective db pages for links).I did actually want to do  for one of the Cog titles on Ios at some point.Btw why would not having a cd drive stop you from playing smugglers? you just download them from he site and install like any other program, then buy them if you want to play them further, no cds required. The two latest games are Smugglers 5 secession, and smugglers 5 Invasion, (which also has downloadables to buy), I'd especially recommend starting with Secession as I showed in the podcast since invasion is tough.

You will be presented with a dialog asking if you would like to return to the character select screen. The default button you land on is no so, you have to go once to the left, to confirm.If you wanted to go all the way back out to the main menu of the game, just go once up, after hitting start, instead of going down once.

Michael, yes it does have accessibility mode. It has to. They don't just make copies of the game without it. Have you read my earlier post? Go to settings and look in gameplay settings. It should be there. If not, look around a bit. I know it's there, like I said, they're not going to just release disks without a feature.

But having said that, gamasutra is an industry website, the goal of the article is to help raise awareness amongst developers there have been plenty of developers over recent years in particular who have wanted to implement accessibility for blind gamers but haven't been able to as there haven't been any tools available, I'm personally confident that we'll now start to see a few at least.

This is all well and good, but it's up to developer implementation. Much like any tool, it's optional, and if developers are primarily used to developing for mainstream gamers, i think they would need a pretty strong push to actually make something happen. I think a big company is going to have to lead the way, Microsoft probably, with the xbox one, but even then, i fear that even if one game was made fully accessible, it would be a drop in the ocean, and get say, a mention in the footnotes of an article. Forgive me, but i think this will take some years to really get flushed out, not that i'm not pumped for the landscape to evolve, i can't help but be more practical than optimistic.

@Assault: this term is actually very important, because for too long there has been stuff for visually impaired, one-switch, magnifiers, etc. But this is focussing, specifically it seems, on the totally blind side of things, something that has been lacking until around last year when Sony and Microsoft finally started adding text to speech support.

And, sure as the sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening, AI Squared discontinues Window-Eyes sales, and offers JAWS migration by way of an alternative. Existing users can migrate freely, before a July 31 deadline.We suspected that this would happen, of course, and now it has. Crying shame. I was really quite fond of Window-Eyes, but the slow progress of development and the VFO acquisition would inevitably put it at a disadvantage. I cannot get screen reader mode to work at all in either chrome or firefox using NVDA. I also cannot get the voice commands to work, except list voices which only shows one, and that's the one its already using.

Worth getting the iOS app anyway, because it's basically just a custom Glulx interpreter for the story. Inside the app (just a .zip file, when downloaded with iTunes) you can find the game data file itself (".ulx" extension) which will then play wherever you want it playing. Moreover the app saves and loads Quetzal save file format files. So it's all good.

You use the term "blind accessible" a lot, which I can't say I'm a fan of, and there are some things I think should be fixed to make that article look a little more polished, personally... but that's a great summary of the landscape as it is now! I love it! Things are changing, for sure... the resources are there, but without developer interest, this will go nowhere... so hopefully more developers will slowly open up to the idea. Killer Instinct, being one of the big hits of this generation, would make a huge landmark if it became fully accessible, as opposed to just playable.

I definitely hope not! lol But the QTE's have been a staple in both injustice and MK x, so I don't see any reason they would change that... and the choice system may be for the arcade mode rather than story. But either way presents some challenges, for sure. I just hope that there will be work arounds... because not being able to view different cinematics due to not getting correct buttons in MK X and thus giving myself less health for those fights as well as injustice was very, very annoying.Also, the youtube videos titles I've seen but not actually watched hint that the multiple endings are for arcade / multiverse modes, not story.

Hmmm, well I've personally been using laptops with speech for 21 years now ever since I was 13, so I'm probably not the best person to judge on tediousness etc, though I'm glad you've got  access to things. Fyi, we don't actually upload games to this site. We're an information site and we provide links to   those who host run games, but we don't actually host any of the game files here, that is why when someone takes a game down we look to other places like the audiogames archive to find the games. As for notifications though, well the updates page will always show the  10 most recently changed game entries including any new ones.I actually have thought of sorting out Twitter so I can make on the spot notes to people when I do work on the site, but as with lots of other things it's something I need to look into and get sorted in time.

Screen readers can use sapi voices, its true, but NVDA especially has many voices you can download / buy that interface with it directly with out the speech API. This does two things, makes it interrupt well, and reduces latency to the realm of imperceptibility. Oh, and when i say interruptability, I'm referring to how well the voice stops one bit of text and starts with another, the default microsoft sapi voices in windows, well, everything, but especially in windows 10 are bad at this, they will sometimes do it, and sometimes not.I am not sure whether dictionary entries in NVDA are able to be 
 set to configuration profiles or not, I could make one for firefox, and use that for liberum engine, mainly because I use chrome as my daily driver, but still, some sites work better in firefox, and if say, perhaps I forgot about those dictionary entries, I'd be fumbling around for 15 minutes trying to figure out why one day this one particular site was working, and now its not,

 o break us out of the sapi tyrany, . Screen readers can use sapi voices, its true, but NVDA especially has many voices you can download / buy that interface with it directly with out the speech API. This does two things, makes it interrupt well, and reduces latency to the realm of imperceptibility. Oh, and when i say interruptability, I'm referring to how well the voice stops one bit of text and starts with another, the default microsoft sapi voices in windows, well, everything, but especially in windows 10 are bad at this, they will sometimes do it, and sometimes not.I am not sure whether dictionary entries in NVDA are able to be set to configuration profiles or not, I could make one for firefox, and use that for liberum engine, mainly because I use chrome as my daily driver, but still, some sites work better in firefox, and if say, perhaps I forgot about those dictionary
  entries, I'd be fumbling around for 15 minutes trying to figure out why one day this one particular site was working, and now its not,
