Well lots of interesting stuff going on, and I don't just mean the fact that it seems once again the British people cannot make up their mind which party they  in charge. Then again since the choice at the moment seems pretty much to be someone who promises to leave europe successfully and be a tough nut but continue taking money away from pretty much every governmental service, or a nut case who threatens to privatise anything, or Ukip, aka the uk independence party who were nut cases even before! the Uk became independent from europe the phrase devil and deep blue sea comes to mind! Still, I'm a little worried about things thus far, since this is not really the time for a coalition government bent on rangling, especially a coalition between partie two parties who historically hate each other. people have been  this a hung parliament,  myself I would be more in favour of a hanged!  parliament, ie, if Britain ends up in trouble time to bre
 ak out the gallows .Welcome to monthly chat saiteja, glad your exam went okay. I'm afraid I feel  provincial since I actually had to look up where Andhra Pradesh was . I did believe it sounded Indian, but I'm afriad my geography even of Britain is pretty dreadful, let alone anywhere else.@Cae I used to  first a lemon balm then a mint plant on my windowsill since there is nothing like making fresh herbal tea from the leaves of an actually growing plant. It rather disconcerted the local representative of the liberal democrat party who turned up while canvasing back for the 2011 election, asked for a cup of tea  then saw me go  mutilate a plant . Still it did make for nice teaa. ~These days a vase of flowers is mostly the limit, actually one of the first things I had to do when mrs. Dark moved in with  was go down and borrow a vase from my neighbor since I didn't actually own one but  rather like buying her flowers. "borrow" turned into "well just keep this one" and it's been a perminant fixture since, usually with something floral in it. As to games, I will say I'm enjoying the recent rash of Alter quests and events. The thing I love in alter is firstly the combat isn't static, meaning you don't just type "kill" and get on with it but have spells and abilities to play with, and secondly that you always have actual quests and jobs to do, it's not like a game like aardwolf which is just grind grind grrind! I just wish I could get some higher level druid abilities to work properly, since it seems that contro
 l weather spells just take up lots  mana and get me killed quickly, where as my usual tachtic of entangling routes, poison ivy, and then let my walking trees and various vicious beasties beat up the enemy while I hurl fist of the earth, thistles and dust devil  until they  is bstill the best tachtic.I did have a look at cleft of dimentions, but I need to spend a little more time with the game I think, in particular looking up quests, though at the moment between crafting kingdom, alter, and a few goes at black box I'm pretty busy gaming wise, and that isn't counting the review I'm in the middle of for Sign of the dove by Susan fletcher or the fact I'm  my first horror novel by Bently little, who is proving wonderfully ghoulish! (I'll probably do a review of that as well). In other news, my lady had her first dalek story yesterday,  hurrah! she is converted . Then again Dalek is probably the most unique story in the first series of new who, particularly with how the 9th doctor is a right git and very, very wrong. Of course that all goes down the tubes thanks to Moffat's retcon of     the time war, but there you go.Oh, and of cours@Nocturnus,That is pretty nasty! sympathy on the feeling generally dysmal. Having had a cold back in 2015 which turned into a chest infection which had me speaking like Dr. Claw from the old inspector gadget cartoons, and not able to sleep since every time I dropped off I'd choke myself awake. that was pretty dam grim! sort of amazing that Mrs. Dark and I wound up married given that that was the first time we saw each other and I sounded like a twenty a day smoker . I don't think quests are tied to what products you unlock,since I got the quest to sell 1000 ladders before I had unlocked ladders. The upgrades for the estate are progressive though, indeed that I think  what encourages you each go round to unlock buildings and products. I  think 5 quests is the max you get each time, though I don't know what happens if you fail to complete a quest or two, still since I have a 100 automations quest for this one we'll see as automation quests are by far the  least interesting I think. I also believe the "reset all progress" button is located when you view rewards in the castle, though I could be remembering incorrectly.One thing I would like to see is a notification when your storage is full. Right now, you get notified when  automation runs out, but if you put the phone down to go and do something else while you leave things running, you keep having to check back to make sure  have n
 ot filled storage, and on average it tends to be your full storage not your ending automation that stops your producing, so a way to know when this happens would be nice.Then again since I still tend to find on average that Vo tends to get tired more quickly than the in built game voice I possibly wouldn't hear notifications anyway, not unless they came with a certain in built sound, which might be rather cool.

Like I said, I wouldn't have a problem with it, as I would use it once or twice to clarify things, but only for that purpose. Same reason why, while I wouldn't primarily use an English dub to watch an anime or play a game, I like having that option there if I need it. Like Cae said, it's about context and how it's executed. One famous fight scene from a movie called ip man, in which the titular character takes on ten karate blackbelts at once and wipes the floor with all of them using one of the fastest chinese martial arts styles, would be an example where audio description would be near useless because of the amount of detail that would have to go into describing that scene, and most audio description tracks for hand to hand combat scenes aren't all that greatly executed. Mortal Kombat, I'm looking at you. But there are times when I definitely like having it, especially if the narrator's voice also atmospherically suits the movie / tv show.

I don't know what you mean by "several options" but there are quite a few slot machines and casino games around, mostly as part of other games. If you have access to Ios there is spoken slots and spoken roulette as well as blindfold roulette. Indeed you might want to investigate some of the blindfold games since they have changeable sound schemes, eg in their pinball game you can choose a different set of sounds for each table. I can't recall if they do a slot machine version, but I'd be willing to bet if they do they have alternative sound schemes for it that you can download.On windows (and mac), there is silver dollar, also there is the casino in Grizly gulch which has a number of casino games going including a slot machine.Probably the single best slots I know is the one in Beatstar, since that one uses the sounds from whatever pack your playing to create it's slots game. I am a fan of Marvel and DC too. And I would love to read actual comic books. Not sure, if embossed comic books would sell very well, especially, if you think about it in a global matter. I wonder however, if it would be possible, to make the digital versions of these books sort of accessible. Maybe, with some kind of OCR-software or something...And if you guys are interested in Marvel or DC stuff, there is something called motion comic. They are some kind of half animated TV-Shows. It is difficult to describe it. I think, the producers took the comic and filmed each panel, and then added voices, sounds and music to it. You can get them from iTunes.

I've always had a mild interest in casino games, particularly slot machines with various themes. Mum has played a number of such games over the years, including ones that were on the original Play Station and apps that don't require real money and have really cool themes for the machines like pyramids or sea creatures or a million other things.The thing with the Kitchensinc casino is ... it's boring. One slot machine, the sounds aren't very appealing and I just have no interest in playing it. Are there any other audio casino games that I don't have to jump through hoops just to download? I hope so...

Pretty much. Daigonite has the right bow and arrows so to speak. They're just being aimed at the wrong target. If I understood Daigonite's goals, that sort of thing just might be a great improvement to mobile. Even more so if it is multi-platform, though base Android on the web is a pain in the neck even more so than Apple. Talkback really could use a great improvement in this regard. It's getting better, but my stubbernness to avoid Apple products when possible is the only thing keeping me on android. Actually, I see a somewhat bright future for android thanks to Humanware. We'll just have to see how that goes.

Hello daigonite./edit/Having read a post above mine, I do agree that mobile navigation needs some work. Perhaps it will be improved in IOS 11./edit/Sorry if my last post seemed a little  harsh. It's just as far as I know you'd not tried a screen reader fully and only tabbed around web pages and then want to fix things which in my oppinion do not need fixing.I'd highly recommend trying a screen reader out if you can for a day or so, then write back here what you find.You're going to find it very hard.If you're willing to do it, i'd be willing to give you some shortcuts that I think would help you.I'm not sure if that will show you fully what I mean but it should give you an idea. In my oppinion we don't need to change web access for windows screen readers that much.I can't talk about Macs as I've not used them that much.
 I agree that we should tell devs about accessibility, show them sites like applevis for apple products and show them sites for web development and accessibility. But we do not need huge accessibility changes.Can you explain to me how you think the techknolegy is backwards? I've been using screen readers for around 17 years of my life and do not think they're backwards or broken. Yes they have bugs but honestly none of them are so bad that they stopped me from using that screen reader. I could still do what I needed to do.I think you may be coming at this from a sighted point of view. Meaning, that you hear this robotic sounding voice and might press a couple keys and think "This program is not doing what I want it to do so I'll fix it!" But the truth is, there probably was a way to do the thing you wanted and you just didn't have the knowledge of the keystroke/shortcut to do it.So the idea of updating acce
 ssibility standards for blind web access is nice but in my oppinion is not needed, as it will update itself over time anyway.

Meaning, that you hear this robotic sounding voice and might press a couple keys and think "This program is not doing what I want it to do so I'll fix it!" But the truth is, there probably was a way to do the thing you wanted and you just didn't have the knowledge of the keystroke/shortcut to do it.So the idea of updating accessibility standards for blind web access is nice but in my oppinion is not needed, as it will upd

Honestly @Daigonite, don't let the vocal minority get the best of you. I don't recall actually anyone here who would be that crazy. Now, as far as your goals. Let me make sure I have this right.1. Make it possible to use only a few keys to do a wide range of commands such as making a more comprehensive tab navigation.2. Make it easier for implimentation of accessibility to software.Honestly, you really should try to become more comfortable with a screen reader. While they can be daunting at first, I think you'll find that many of the commands given make them quite efficient pieces of software. Not to discourage your ideas, though. Your ideas may make mobile navigation less of a pain in the neck. Keep that in mind, actually.

If you really want to walk a mile in our shoes, turn off your monitor while trying out a screen reader.Even then it's not quite the same because you know you can always turn the monitor back on, we don't get that option.Actually blindfolding yourself would be better because besides not being able to see the monitor, we can't see the keyboard either.

I'd say whether or not it'd be worth it from the player's perspective depends primarily on how much visual-only information there is. I distinctly remember the part in BK2 where the Megabird first appears, and the narration describes it with talons extended and bathed in red. There's also the bit in MK10 where Johnny Cage starts glowing, which is kinda relevant and gets referenced later. I do prefer to keep narration to a minimum (I'm looking at you, Spider-man starring Toby McGuire), but I keep finding myself running into details for which in-world audio or comments wouldn't work well. A "as the door opens, the wizard disappears under the invisibility cloak" is good if it can be timed right. A blow-for-blow description of a fast-paced fight scene would be more distracting than useful. Context, purpose, execution.

Have you tried using A S D and W to walk. E is the interact button and will interact with most things. And @draco thanks for reporting that. I haven't had much luck in testing the linux build, i'll have to disable secure boot and get this doolboot thing setup before I can do any serious testing.

Hi @danny. I can't walk even at the first part of the game. It tells me to go to something I hear off to my right, but, I can't move with the arrows. I pressed enter after hearing the instructions on what I needed to do and still can't move. In fact, none of the keys work. I can press alt f4 and that completely closes the program. This is on windows 10.

Stuck my head on the server but the terminal was showing x-window errors and stuff about server socketsand such, so I relaunched it and hopped back on the server, quit the game aand.DMPA just hung, killall dmpa didn't work, xkill didn't even work.Secret to killing the process name?

Yes, if its still compiling with make then you can't use it, you'll need to do make then sudo make install as once make is done. The only thing I can deduce from your terminal output is that you haven't installed libaudioverse after compiling, which is what sudo make install will do.

You could always try a sudo make uninstall however I dout weather that's exactly safe. Did you make sure to do a sudo make install after you did a make on libaudioverse?

Yeah, I'm not particularly well versed in screen readers. To be fair, I'm just asking the thing to read some strings for me  you guys handle the other side. lol. I've never experimented with scripting it.Magurp, I think that I was being a bit overly hostile, but you're right. I've only been recently exposed to this demographic so I'm a bit reactionary right now. I am very frustrated however by how they seem to be continually self perpetuating. Based on the circle nature of how they promote themselves, I'm am concerned for where they're taking this, so I do still feel like it would be a good idea to try to get a leg-up on more abstract and more scalable accessibility models.If you can't beat the system... beat the system...er?

Magurp, I think that I was being a bit overly hostile, but you're right. I've only been recently exposed to this demographic so I'm a bit reactionary right now. I am very frustrated however by how they seem to be continually self perpetuating. Based on the circle nature of how they promote themselves, I'm am concerned for where they're taking this, so I do still feel like it would be a good idea to try to get a leg-up on more abstract and more scalable accessibility models.If you can't beat the system... beat the system...er?

OK, so here's what I did for installing libaudioverse, strate from the libaudioverse instructions. sudo apt-get install python3 python3-pip libsndfile1-dev libasound2-dev libboost-all-dev gcc g++ make cmake pandoc python3-numpy python3-scipy After that, sudo pip3 install pycparser jinja2 sphinx pypandoc wheel pyyaml After that, just so you'll be on the safe side, sudo pip3 install --upgrade numpy scipy Once that's done, git clone --recursive git://github.com/camlorn/libaudioverse cd libaudioverse mkdir build cd build cmake .. make sudo make install And that should work.

@bradIf my memory is correct, the student program was rolled out at about the same time VFO released JAWS 18.@magurp244No, the 90 day license isn't a lease to own program like the student program. The 90 day license is targeted at situations where a copy of JAWS is needed for accessibility or other testing.---So far JAWS and VFO haven't given me any reasons to look anywhere else for a screen reader.At this point I know JAWS and am comfortable with it. I'm not inclined to put my own projects on hold long enough to learn a new screen reader.

lol seriously, is it just me who really stupid and can't figure out the manual pilot? , I have a hard time for moveing my ship to the asteroid, like, the asteroid is on my northeast around   5000 distent , but when I turned to  the north east, the asteroid changes dirrection to south southeast , (and its the same asteroid, too), and it seams there is something wrong with the scan menu, it won't show up

OK, so I just ran the game on a fresh install of ubuntu, so I know now what exactly needs to be done. Just build libaudioverse, its safe to skip over the step with python-speechd and speech-dispatcher as it apparently works with out it.

Well, I will say, now that I am close to the end of the story mode, that it's a bit of a mixed bag. The plot itself is terribly written, with as many plot holes as there are in other fighting games like Injustice or MK. Definitely not all that it was made out to be. But on the good side of things, what little plot there is is presented quite well, and does provide for entertainment. the scenes and Japanese dialog are well done, where the dialog in the languages is probably questionable... seeing as Namko used translation companies that were already in Japan. but the sound design and the cinematics are definitely not bad, and some of the fights have some hype moments... shame the plot wasn't told in a better way!

But I also believe it would be naive to think that a for profit conglomerates intentions are altrustic, from a financial perspective they directly benefit by maintaining the status quo as primary accessibility distributors. I agree that standards are important for collaboration, but my concern was more that FS could use groups like The Paciello Group and their position as "professional" accessibility experts to push standards that directly benefit their proprietary products while excluding competitors like NVDA.If being "compliant" in that case means favoring FS products, proprietary scripting, and standards it could help them gain a dominant market position, and you only need to look at [Mylan] and the Epipen for an example of how that could play out. Insulin Injectors save countless lives and were legally mandated to be on site in schools and public institutions, with Mylan's Epipen being the primary supplier. They've used that position to push out competition from the market and establish a monopoly, consistently increasing the price upwards to 600$ for a single 30$ device, gouging governent and insurance providers.Now maybe VFO wouldn't do that and maybe The Paciello Group will continue to do good unbiased work, I certainly hope they do. Oh, @draco, I believe I figured out your linux problem. In the install guide I put git clone git://github.com/camlorn/libaudioverse, when it should actually be git clone --recursive git://github.com/camlorn/libaudioverse Just delete your old directory, like from terminal rm -rf libaudioverse and reclone it, inside their make a build directory after cloning and cding into the directory like so, mkdir build and then try cmake ..

Update:Still no response from the contact I was given that might have some copies of the game available.At this point I don't expect to get any response, so the best bet right now appears to be if somebody with an original CD will attempt to make a working copy with Clone CD.If there isn't one already, I seriously doubt that a cracked version of it will ever exist. The game is too old and for such a small market that crackers with enough skill to break Starforce won't be interested, unless they were paid to crack it.Pity, the game sounds very interesting.

The first message I sent was about VAT exemption prior to purchase and that was over a month ago. The first support question would have been a week and a half ago, and the support ticket followed a few days later. The support ticket system said they respond within 24 to 48 hours, but it's been 4 or 5 days now, and based on the lack of response to my other two messages, I doubt I'll be hearing anything. I think it might be the fact that a lot of companies don't respond to support enquiries that have been addressed in the FAQ or knowledge base. Maybe CF thinks their scant answer on the FAQ about having a good internet connection exempts them from addressing this issue properly.

The fact that you incorporated accessibility from the beginning, wanting to keep us updated as to your progress, and the fact you are listening to our complaints, comments, and suggestions,  is highly commendable.yesterday I ran thru all the previous posts and this game has come a long way so far. I commend those who struggled at the beginning. Those early bugs were not fun I bet.I came in 2 versions ago. I struggled with the boost videos. Found some which could be closed by finding that L icon in the upper right corner and tapping it. A few had their close button on the left corner, and those who had none and would send you to the app store if you touched anything on the screen. Had my share of cursing at the screen as I had to close and reopen crafting. glad that has been addressed in this latest release.With this latest release
  things have sure gotten better. The jumping around is almost non-existent. but in my opinion the ability to purchase the game and to rid of the videos and the refresh all buttons are my favorite 2 new options. I purchased the game shortly after I got that last update on may 19th. Well worth it in my opinion. Love having the 4 boost slots with no videos.I am playing the game on a iPhone 6 with the latest os, 10.3 I think it is, with voice over on,  and have noticed a couple things I wish to report:1. Seems this might be an ongoing issue since it was mentioned before. The game seems to get tired after a bit. As I said the jumping around on a screen has gotten much better. yet it seems that after quite a few hours the game might start jumping around a bit. turning vo off does seem to help navigate when this happens. Also double taps seem to get more problematic. There has been times  I have had to tap all around the screen to find a spot to activate the button 
 I want. closing and reopening does seem  to refresh it a bit and fix these minor annoyances.2. As previously mentioned by another person, every now and then it seems to lose a bit of focus. when swiping from one button to another it might just say button or a shortened, almost incomprehensible word of what that button is. so swiping away and coming back I can hear what button it was. What buttons this happens on varies and does not happen on one specific type or position, and at various times.3. Thanks for fixing it so that numbers are read as whole numbers and not individual digits. The most notable place I have seem it still read as digits is in the estate when it says I need 50 million and have two three four five six seven gold. thought there was one or 2 other places it still happens but cannot find as the writing of this.now for a couple in game questions:1. Looking for clarification. Does the quit button in the main menu just exit the game or 
 totally quit you from the game and you lose all progress?2. how many total quests may one have at any given time? I currently have 5 sell quests, 1 for 500 boost, 1 for 1000 automations, and 1 for 15 slots to get a restart button for one of the shops. Is it possible to get a restart button for a shop you have never bought?4. I think you said the quests you get are random. that might explain why I never got the quest to sell high number of logs. now it seems the number of lumber to sell is growing a lot. Currently up to 300k on that one.4. currently my estate need 50 million gold, 1000 metal, and 1000 weapons. I have never unlocked armor or weapons in the blacksmith shop. So does this mean as long as a product is not unlocked you will not get quests for it? Asking cuz think it was hinted on and looking back I don't think I got quest for cloth until I had unlocked it.5. Is there a way to totally reset everything back to the beginning? or does that just
  require a uninstall and re-install?6. it has been suggested that something be done with the princess. I can see getting her to 100% and then what? I don't have any ideas at this time but think an option to add to what she does now is a great idea. make her more than what she is currently.@dark. the first reset button quest i got was for furnace. Greetings all. To those who have had trouble logging in with their account because they've found that it freezes after the password prompt, that bug should be fixt now. And, note to self. When dealing with cpu usage, make sure that their's not a check in place that's constantly eating up the cpu, I didn't notice it last night which is what caused the cpu to shoot sky high and caused the server to lag. It all should be fixt now, though you may notice your ship not moving super fast as a result.

And they didn't do their homework before picking Themita as their drm system o choice. It is only barely better than STarforce Protection, and by better I mean better for intrusive drm extremists. But it is intrusive in different ways, and in more ways than Starforce. The first version they released wasn't able to be installed on virtual machines due to the drm, requiring you to disable all instances of vmware anything via the config file, which resulted in massive vm crashes. They fixed that, but that drm system caused the problem. As for ocr, I have been very satisfied with KNFB Reader so would take any Kurzweil product any day. They've been the leader in ocr for a good long time.

@post 329 Hold down aero. Your supposed to pull the lever down, you'll need to hold it down until it tractors into place. Remember movement is dependant on your tractor beam speed. And server is back up, i'll see what I can do about an auto restart.

Given the recent SAG-AFTRA strike and royalty demands additional voice over may be even more unlikely, well until something like Project VoCo or Lyrebird becomes more mature perhaps. After that adding it in would be trivial.

First off, NVDA's scripting language is Python because that's what NVDA is written in. No, I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with that, Python is a very capable language.JAWS has a very capable scripting language too, based on Java, so I'm told. I'm currently studying it for some script ideas I want to play with.For accessibility, Windows has Microsoft's Active Accessibility, and With their Voice Over screen reader I'm fairly certain that Apple has some kind of accessibility framework in their operating systems as well, and then there's Aria for HTML.With all those accessibility frameworks available, it would seem that all it really needs is for developers to spend some time learning how to use the tools that are already available instead of complaining about it.--- off topic ---I agree that the price of JAWS could be lower, but as long as people, and more importantly enterprises and instituti
 ons, because that's where the money is, keep buying it, there's no real reason why VFO should change anything.For students, there is a payment program in place, you pay $300 each quarter and in three quarters or one school year, you own it.The thing that keeps me using JAWS is how complete it is out of the box. Unless I want to, there is no need to find and install add ons to get all the features I want. And if something does turn up lacking, JAWS is so feature rich, you can probably find what you need by browsing the many settings, and if that doesn't fill the bill, depending on what you need, it's not very hard to write a script to fill the hole.Anyway, this thread is about accessibility standards, not screen readers, so that is all I will say on the subject of JAWS.

Agreed with Kai, Brian and Arc completely. Unfortunately, the ehtnusiasm about getting a game early seems to be a way too common problem with people who want to beta test for anything that is open to such. People forget what the real purpose of testing a game is... and it's not just to play it a few months ahead of everyone else.

Given how long it's been since it's been developed, it amazes me that eloquence is still the top of the tree in terms of consistent pronunciation and good rhythm at any speed. Especially now TTS is a mainstream feature of so many devices, you'd think those natural voices would have caught up by now.Re CF's contact form: that's what I used the first two times, then discovered the help desk ticket submission page in an FAQ and thought that's what I'd been doing wrong. Neither form has resulted in a response. It must be the subject matter that's the problem. They must know this licensing system sucks and are burying their heads in the sand. What makes me laugh is they say on their FAQ that they don't give refunds because you get to try the software for 7 days, but the shitty DRM isn't part of the trial. If only I'd used a credit card or paypal, I'd definitely be pursuing a refund.

Yeah... again, it's all personal preference. I personally don't like it, and I imagine that in an industry where you have to pay people by the hour, sometimes by the word they record, companies likely won't want to add a narrator simply for the convenience of a small number of gamers who want it where 90% of the gamers will never use it. But there may be people who do, and I would probably use it once and never touch it again. But that's just me.
