I wouldn't say you have a poor imagination, more that you may not have many points of reference and may not be sure of how to approach the subject. Its possible that you could load their reference images in Brushtone or another tool, but they generally aren't structured in a very readable way. Studying low rez artwork could also help or some of the art from NES era or stylized games, there's actually a low rez game jam going on right now on itch.io, if you like I can scrape some screen shots and provide descriptions.There is some available research and information available for blind and visually impaired artists, and their methodology naturally differs a bit from sighted artists. What there is though largely relates to tactile mediums like painting, sculpting, or pencil work, digitial paint tools like Brushtone are a very recent development however so in some respects this is a new frontier. Many of the principles of art theory translate across mediums and t

I was just searching games on the Alexa trying to kill a couple of hours and found a really fun game that took me back to my days of playing D with friends.  It was a total nostalgia trip.  You roll to create a character, go to the dungeon and combat monsters, cast spells, and find items in chests. Well what could happen is there could be some direct use of the text to speech api along with the swipe gestures described by Chris. I also second what he said about beta testing, I'd be happy to test on both ios and android. For those who don't have a mobile device: firstly, google play is accessible. Second, there are projects like android x86, andro vm, and others that allow you to run an android operating system on your computer. Whether it would work with this game I'm not sure, but hey it's worth a shot. Nevertheless, I just bought the game and can't wait for it to become accessible.

I must admit, I'm quite astounded at the negativity surrounding this game, and couldn't agree more with Trajectory's comments, even though I'm not nearly as serious a gamer now as I used to be. On the other hand, want to know why I'm not a serious gamer any more? Precisely because the art of audio game making seems to be focused so much more on quick fixes/short and sweet time wasters, text-based games, and online open world design, rather than depth, plot development, and quality of content combined with the power of audio design. Sure, Manamon was a Pokemon clone. Sure, the plot is sort of shallow. But you know what? The game makes up for that by being engaging, and taking you through quite a journey indeed! All that while designed by a small team, and still providing many hours of intrigue, excitement, suspense, and general enjoyment. More to the point, this game contributes to a very, very small pile of such games in this particular style, and I will t
 ake it, and its preset but clearly defined story over an aimless, make it up as you go online open world sort of rig any day. Call me old-fashioned, but I can never enjoy small, five-minute games, text adventures, or online multiplayer games in the way that I enjoyed the hours and hours of watching and helping my dad play through all the classic single-player survival horror games, solving puzzles, figuring out the stories... And Manamon offered me a chance to do all of those things, but do them by myself. Here's hoping there's more where that came from in the future.

That's not the point though, you need to have a computer that you can leave unattended 24/7. You should never run on a computer that you still plan to use. That goes for any server, and that's just common sense. Which is why I do agree, a Pi would really! be the best thing to use for this. As for Liquidsoap compatibility on OSX, I had figured it would be compatible with OSX as well since that is Unix based. I've seen a lot of packages that are available for Linux have more easy to find Mac equivalents.

Replay value is way too subjective to be measurable, IMO. I do put a lot of stalk in estimated completion time, and to RPG fans this is a pretty important, mostly objective metric.If we take a look at one of my favourites -- Ocarina of Time -- by all accounts it should have essentially zero replay value. It's a pretty long game for 20 years ago, but you play as the same character, through the same story and the levels are always exactly the same. but countless people keep coming back for more, and more... and more... for all these years... for reasons that are difficult to put into words.If a game can captivate me with hours and hours of new and challenging quests, intense battles and compelling story sequences with a good mix of emotions, I'll play it again and again. If a game takes 60 minutes, it can't possibly deliver on those things, so unless those 60 minutes can be considerably different the 2nd, 3rd, or 33rd time... then it has limited replay val
 ue according to my own taste in gaming.I can't see speed run times as being a fair measurement of how long a game is. Speed running is an art, a science and a sport all at the same time and the times they achieve are a result of vast knowledge and usually bug exploitation.Since 2005, Ocarina of Time speed runs have gone from taking 5 and a half hours to being less than 20 minutes. Today, a good 99 percent of the game is skipped and the entire run is a show of glitch exploitation. and it's highly competitive with a lot of players. For such a huge meta game to have emerged from a single player game, it must be good; and that's what replay value means to me.On a side note, from my own experimentation, a serious (but poorly executed) speed run of Paladin of the Sky would clock in at about 5 hours 30 minutes. A similarly serious but poorly executed speed run of Manamon would clock in at a little shy of 10 hours. A well executed speed run of the once groun
 d breaking Super Liam clocks in at about 37 minutes.

I had an interesting thing happen today. I often wonder when I die and bounce up if I will hit coins and stuff or a ramp, well that happened today, I bounced and slid and hit the ramp and it made the sound like you jumped it, and I did bounce a little again after that, I guess it boosted me still but I was going slow then so I didn't jump anywhere near the full ramp when your bike is going fast. It was still funny. Now all I have to do it hit it right so I bounce into coins, if the game still counts collisions with them at that point, which I don't know, but it would still be cool.

Hmm, you know, I feel kinda like replay value and time-to-completion are different enough that I can't really judge games based on the latter. Like, I read an interview with a Sega developer regarding 3d rereleases of classic games, and during the interview, the dev gave the interviewer a copy of 3d Streets of Rage, and by the end of the interview, the interviewer was at the final level. Speed-runs of the original Super Mario Bros are very short.But nowadays, games can't capture what made 5-60 minute games popular, and now they have to measure playtime in dozens or hundreds of hours as a selling point. Then people rush through them on release weekend anyway.So I don't even know how to feel about all this.Also, agree that the bar really needs to not fall far below Manamon, hence forth. Keeping release dates in mind, Audio Games are a good 20 years behind, and that's only if we count VGStorm. And, playing mainstream games 20 years ago? I think t
 hat's being generous.Also yes Manamon is awesome and I am jealous of the talent that brought it into being.

@Lirin:Back before 2008 I had done a lot of forum posting and youtube videos to try and get help with Ocarina. Eventually I met a very talented speed runner who was either the world record holder at the time (or close).He and I started working together over Skype and he ended up writing steps for me which were able to guide me through the game (for map navigation it came down to mostly counting steps and movements, but the combat I could do mostly on my own).It took us a couple of years but we eventually got working steps written for the entire game, with the help of a few other guys who came and went over the course of the project.After that a few Twitch streamers (including the guy who helped me) completed blindfolded playthroughs on stream (without specific steps).As to the topic at hand, the online feature was advertised as being experimental. I too hope to see it improved, especially if there's a sequel (more mons, more features and a flushe
 d out networking system will make for some interesting online play).Of course that means subscription access (because it would have to be managed by a server), which I'm perfectly okay with as long as there's enough of a player base to where you can log on and get a battle most of the time.I think the game is a really solid attempt at bringing us a mainstream sized and captivating game. Sacrifices have to be made when you're a 1(or 2, or 3...) man show with a budget of just a few thousand or so as opposed to a huge corporation, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. I hope A Hero's Call gives it a run for it's money, but I equally look forward to hopefully more Manamon and similar games.

1. The game is not updated anymore.  Time is being put into developing new games, which will also use the Kaldobsky gamer account.2. During the week it seems like there are between 20 and 30 players online at any given time.  On the weekends it seems to be higher, but I'll admit I don't regularly keep track of the number of players who are online each day.  I'm not sure how many are in the English channel.3. I suppose it is all relative.  There are some immature players, of course, but I wouldn't use that sort of label for the player base in general.  The players are very much against cheating.  Some individual players would probably cheat if they had the chance, but in general the Swamp community is against cheaters and turn them in when they do pop up.  When someone is caught cheating they are banned and they must purchase a whole new gamer account if they want to play again, so there are not very many people w
 illing to take such a risk.  It also means that people who were stupid enough to cheat have probably been caught long long ago and are no longer playing.4. I can't answer this question myself.    I never really play Swamp myself because if I did, people would just ask me questions the whole time, haha.

As for the IF community, I've no patience for bigotry of any kind (well, unless it's me being bigoted, in which case it's A-OK  ) and I'm quite sure that there will always be an affection directed toward any kind 
 of IF that inspires and entertains players. And surely, that's the only benchmark that matters. I really do enjoy many of the CoG games I played, and I'm totally open to different mechanics. We've had RPG, random combat, one-room games (like Aisle), word-play games, flat-out machine abuses (like ZChess or ZBasic) and games whose only permissible input is Yes and No. Nobody seems to care enough, even when they're prepared to attack the plot or story or lack of mimesis. They're all still in the archive.It's just, you know, parser-based IF is superior. PS: what do you think of Reliques of Tolti-aph? I thought it was a really quite wonderful blend of RPG and straight IF.

Hi all,I have started to learn BGT. I had  some nolige of programming in the passt, so the tutorial wasn't mutch of a problem. How ever, I think that pack_file object isn't explained quite good. That's why I ask the following questions.1. How to use sounds or any file other then text files in the pack?2. As for the IF community, I've no patience for bigotry of any kind (well, unless it's me being bigoted, in which case it's A-OK  ) and I'm quite sure that there will always be a sympathy directed toward any kind of
  IF that inspires and entertains players. And surely, that's the only benchmark that matters. I really do enjoy many of the CoG games I played, and I'm totally open to different mechanics. We've had RPG, random combat, one-room games (like Aisle), word-play games, flat-out machine abuses (like ZChess or ZBasic) and games whose only permissible input is Yes and No. Nobody seems to care enough, even when they're prepared to attack the plot or story or lack of mimesis. They're all still in the archive.It's just, you know, parser-based IF is superior.

Okay, a lot to say here. and some of you might not like it.First and foremost I think Manamon is fantastic compared with most of the audio games on the market today. That said, it quite obviously wouldn't be so fantastic when compared to today's multimillion dollar mainstream masterpieces... but it tries pretty damn hard which earns mega browny points in my book.I had largely dismissed and abandoned the audio games scene a long time ago, because I was sick of paying $30 for a game I could finish in an afternoon, or a game that had been done ten times before (within the audio games scene... I think clones of mainstream titles are amazing).So I moved on to struggling through mainstream games as I successfully did with Ocarina of time (and as it happens that scored me some news coverage).The VGStorm rpgs bring something new to the table; content.All the flashy expensive sound work in some titles will do absolutely nothing for me if the trade-of
 f is that I can finish them in one sitting.Paladin, for example, sacrifices a good bit of audio "dressing" for a lot of content. Not everybody's cup of tea, but it did the trick for me. Manamon packs even more content into a game that doesn't sacrifice on the  audio so much, and so obviously it's more expensive; fine by me, still within the price of a mainstream title. A Hero's call is expected to have exemplary sound quality, full voice acting and a lot of content; but it had to be kickstarted in order to make it possible (how in the world is that a surprise?).but to everyone who simply demands nothing less than multimillion dollar quality from small-time devs and expects to pay next to nothing for it I have one thing to say. I'd like to see you try and pull that off by yourself.and I'm not saying for a minute that I don't expect or hope to see growth in this industry. but it'll never happen if devs can'
 t catch a break for an honest effort.To the balance issues, I've never really seen this explained well. What balance issues does Manamon suffer from that Pokemon doesn't? Plenty of "do not use" creatures, but Pokemon does the same thing.

Well, recording every possible choice / menus etc will consume a lot of time and money. While I agree it will sounds much much better it will take really long time plus you are working on the rest of the game (hopefully you will release all of the epizodes.  )My idea is to add a Voiceover temporarily to enable the game for blind users?I know it requires a bit of extra coding so if it's too much for you and not worth the time that is okay. It is just my idea what to do to increase the playability for everyone and work on the rest of the game.

Now normally, this event name is a link. However, I've noticed, jus today, that the event name shows up, but not the link! Could you find a voice actress who could do a choice-based voice as well, possibly? Freeq had a voice actor who played a character in the game, but he did a completely different voice for the interface.

Which device are you playing on and which OS do you have? To answer your other questions: The Girl Who Sold the World is an episodic game. The whole story will be told in 7 chapters. Each chapter (except for chapter one) will
  consist of several ( mostly three to four) sub-chapters which you will be able to play. Which sub-chapter you will be able to play depends on the decisions you make. For example, depending on decisions made in chapter one, you will unlock sub-chapter A of Chapter Two. If you are curious what happens in sub-chapter B, you will eventually have to go back to chapter one and make other decisions.  There are a lot of branches and a lot of stories to be told. Depending on the success of chapter one we would like to release chapters at a steady pace. For now, it is hard to tell whether it will take three or four, or even five months to produce chapter two. The Story is written (well, most of it), but we would like to hire a bigger team in order to speed things up a bit and to start working on accessibility. Hope I could help,Barbara

Oh orko don't exaggerate. Only 5 to 10 dollars for a game that there were working on for more than year and a half, and contains a not so few content. Maybe 15 to 20 dollars is kinda appropriate, don't know. That's the dev's decision, according to the efort and resources he put.

A lot of the windows universal apps aren't accessible, its microsoft being lunkheads. The wireless stuff if perfectly doable though. Hit windows B to jump to the system tray, then right arrow a few times until you hear something like not connected, no connections available, or not connected, connections available. Press space and then arrow to your network of choice, press enter, then tab around, if its a network you want to use a lot, check the thing that says connect automatically with space, then tab and space on connect, then type the password and hit enter.It's a little more concerning if it says connections not available, If that happens, the two most common causes are that wifi is off, or airplane mode is on, either way, bring up the same panel as before, but you will tab around until you hear wifi toggle, not pressed, if it says not pressed, hit space to activate it, then escape and wait a few seconds for it to scan and back in and connect If airplane mode 
 is on, when you arrow over the icon in the system tray, you'll hear something like the following: not connected, wireless communication is turned off. That's a good indicator its airplane mode that got accidentally turned on.

Hi,Does Frances already have a voice actress? For the audiogame called Freeq by Psychic Bunny, they got their voice engineer to make a completely in-universe, but familiar, interface. I think having something like this could be cool for this game, maybe, although it depends. Maybe a similar narrator-type voice could be there to help with choices, or, is Frances talking directly to you?

The game is indeed awesome, as a person who have purchased it and completed it several times. It's a pokemon clone yes, but at that point I do agree with Chris, an access to a clone is better than no access at all. Yes it's more advanced than Paladin, but I see that Paladin is better than it when it comes to story and rpg elements. But may I ask those who say that Manamon is unbalanced: I don't disagree so far, but from which side do you see the game so? As for gameplay for instance, don't you think it's balanced enough?

What I find more irritating than that he's ignoring his other projects that could use updates, I have yet to receive a reply from him to any of the emails I sent requesting technical assistance with QRead.Based on that alone, if there was another viable captcha solver for Internet Explorer that actually worked, I switch to it in protest of being a paying customer and being ignored.There's just no viable excuse for treating customers that way.

This seems like a great game. What sort of accessibility are you planning? Is it going to be recorded human prompts that read out all choices and any other user interface elements? Will this be coming to the Android version as well? Since I can't examine the game interface, I have a couple suggestions. A one finger swipe left or right should move through any choices/UI elements available and speak them. A single finger double tap should click on the selected choice. I can't wait until this is playable! This is awesome that you're taking the time todo this. I love these types of interactive stories!

hi, in order to use ratpoison, you would use orca. But as a general warning, the xterm which ratpoison starts up will *NOT* speak. It reminds me of the Blitab site: written like a big advertisement, but with no actual content.OCharitibly, one could assume they're new-ish and are hedging their bets on presentation style. Given how these things usually work, that's a sign of (over) optimism, which apparently works wonders in real life, but doesn't seem to correlate with success in game development.

What I don't understand is why Q is working on Captcha be gone and not on any of his other projects. That's what makes no sense. He's got other great projects that definitely need some updates.
