Re: AHC - hint for the mines

Hi,This post may contain the mineshaft spoilers... so dont continue reading unless you want parts of it spoiled!@archer, once you enter the arina that is before the fight sequence starts, buff yourself up,and hope for the best!I dont know if there is any other way to deal with the goblin king besides getting trapped by him into the arina as that is the path I followed and I havent started my next playthrough yet. I am stuck but more on that in a bit.As to your ulcano mausoleum and the liam quest question, if I remember right, as soon as you enter the ulcano mausoleum from the main door, there is the tomb to the lord whatshisname straight ahead, however to the east there is an opening as well, along the way from the door, turn when you see an opening to the right or east, what you will, follow that path and you should find both liam and the shrine he was talking about.I have a question as well, and its related to the goblin palace in the mine. I Am trying to free a few prisnors, and I feel like I am missing something farely obvious, but where in hell is the gatehouse in there? I have spent the last half an hour to maybe 1 hour in searching for it,but havent found the dam thing yet...on a related spoilerish note...quest spoilers wrote: I seriously feel like I should have taken the summon dead ability from the sharman and leave the other bugger to rot in the dungens!.But eh,whats done is done,I guess...Grryf

Re: Windows vs Linux

Okay you got a few ways to get into Linux1. Virtual machines. This is probably the easiest way, get VMWare or VirtualBox and a Linux ISO and set up the VM2. Actually making a bootable ISO and installing Linux on your physical systemFor the second one you'll need to turn off secure boot however which is going to be a bitch to get to and turn offbut if you can do itI'd recommend it personally if you want to ditch Windows.Orca works perfectly fine with Gnome based desktops, I'm partial to the Mate desktop myself, I'd suggest it for everyone as it's easy to learn and everything is easily and logically laid out, you got your applications in on menu, places in another menu.Games on WINE is a thing, you can run Windows programs with WINE and once you get that set upit should run a good number of Windows programs. For accesssibility again, Orca keeps on improving, and it's open source so you can view the code and make tweaks and help improve itt as well, unlike on the Windows side where things are closed source and tweaking closed source code is often viewed as hacking and/or illegal and/or piracy and/or Is Orca perfect? No, but it's absolutely useable with Firefox or its derivativesplus it comes preinstalled with most distros, so that's a plus.Last thingI've used both Windows and Linux and I've said it many times, on a laptop, Windows FEEELS slower, even if the numbers are the same. Here's a few distros to get you started:Ubuntu MateWhy? It's Ubuntu, it has a metric load of stuff in the repos, and it's perfectly useable with Orca, but it will stop being supported at some point. That being said, upgrades are free. That being said, again, you're stuck with the software and versions in  a particular version you download, 16.04 does not have the 16.10 software for instance, though there are ways around that.ArchWhy? If you want to go the ultra hardcore geeky Arch route then there's Antergos or Sonar that, in the latter case is accssible Antergos which is an installer that simplifies the Arch install. Advantages of Arch? You get the latest software without waiting for it to be curated or added to a repo. Disadvantages? Bugs, Lots of bugs Oh and Sonar comes with the Gnome desktop by defaultSolusWhy? Indie distro, it has a Mate and Gnome flavors that work fine with Orca and  it's a midle ground btween the cutting edge of Arch, and the fixed releases of Ubuntu.Hopefully that helps, I'd say Solus is your best bet as far as getting into Linux goes frankly, it's walked through how to install it on their site and it doesn't come with half the bloat Ubuntu's saddled with, plus you get put into a live session to try out Solus without having to go through a menu like in Ubuntu

@Ironcross32I've always held the opinion that hyper-realism tends to ruin games, and I don't think it'd be any different here. While a game like that might sound good in theory, I don't think it would be fun to play. Most people play games to chill and have fun, not to simulate an actual war zone. Can you imagine learning the controls? There would have to be tons of different key bindings just to operate weapons.I can't even think of any mainstream games that have such a high level of realism.I still think it'd be interesting to actually see a game like that though. I might be wrong and it could turn out to be awesome.

Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

Guys, listen up. The game has been patched. Anyone who bought it presumably got an email, and a whole pile of stuff got fixed. I can already see, for instance, that Gwen gets a new skill called Blazing Strike, and Alexia's Exorcist is no longer bugged. New Game also works, though be careful if you're at a high level and start on hard. Enemies hit murderously hard. This is going to be fun. But still no buff-stacking for me.As such, if any of you are having bugs with certain things, please follow the instructions in your email, assuming you've gotten such, and then try again. Wolf dens, btw, are now easier to find. I've already found one without any effort on my part, hardly. It's not likely that every single bug was fixed, but most probably were. I found a few myself, reported them, and they were nailed. There are bits in the change log that didn't affect me, bits I never thought to even test for, and...well, yeah. Just go update the game, guys, and follow the instructions carefully. You'll thank me (and the developer, of course) later.I can't promise that the system will have less slowdown, as I never had any to begin with, but here's hoping.Specs given a post or two ago, btw? Should have no real trouble running this game, to my knowledge.

Its [currently] being used by blind students at Priestley Smith School in Birmingham to help teach subjects such as math and science, among other things. The company behind the 3Doodler Start apparently spent some time working closely with the accessibility community to add more tactile and accessible functions to their 3D Start version, and even have audio instructions available on their site [here] and instructions in braille upon request. It currently retails for around 50$ US on their site, although you can also find used models for 40$ US on amazon.

Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

spoilers ahead:at post 892 you need to find the northern watch tower first, Then go a bit to the west i think, Then set your heading to north. Walk sideways with a and d and as soon as it says "massive tree wall", go north. When you reached the wall, again move sideways until you find the door and then solve the puzzle by help of the book you probably took from the ruins fort(I'm not sure about the location you find the book. ). Also i think the poem you get is random so i don't think asking people about solving the puzzle help you at all.BTW another bug i found was that yesterday i told hope the vampire slayer that i found your friend and this stuff, After the conversation, I stuck in a something like when you get an advance dialog and you only have to press enter but no matter if i press enter, Nothing happens. Also pressing arrow keys just played the menu edge sound, No speech output from my screen reader. I forced to exit the game by pressing alt+f4.

Those features will not make audio games better. Making better games will make audio games better. I use BGT because no one has come close to making the most of it, and if we can't extract all the value from something easy, why should we assume we're ready for something more advanced? Give BGT a way to handle threads, libraries, unicode, and FCOL do something about how easy it is to get lag compared to something as famously slow as Java... and that's really all it needs. But yeah. Is anyone sharing any of this MCI info, or are they just saying "use MCI" and leaving it at that? Using DLLs with BGT is pain enough without treating a couple library::call lines as proprietary.

Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

@886 Nah, windows 10 64 bit. I'm surprised if it turns out that the peeps on windows 7 have a more stable experience. Windows 10 is a lot more streamlined, and lightweight, and a lot more performant. Windows 7 is still good though, and not spy happy, unless ms been sneaking patches into it like they did to try to get peeps to update. The one reason why I will never go back to 7 though, manual, driver, acquisition. If you get a computer from a manufacturer, and you only ever use the recovery CD they gave you if a problem occurs, you're good, but my gawd, installing device drivers for every, single, thing you plug in, and installing the latest chipset drivers, the latest NIC drivers, the latest bla bla bla, finding all that crap, and installing it, man no... no... and no. I hated that about windows 7, even at the time when I used it when there was nothing else, I loved windows 7, it was fairly fast, and stable, rock solid. Installing drivers wasn't a big deal when you say, got a new device, they'd give you a CD, you plopped it in, said next next, no thanks I don't want your bloatware, next install, wait wait wait wait wait... wait, done, finish bam. But, on a new install, imagine doing that or every one of your devices, plus, motherboard and chipset, plus NIC, plus wifi if aplicable, plus GPU, well now you have stuff like nvidia experience which means you don't even really have to do much of anything for that now too. Manual driver stuf sucked so hard. If I had to fix someone's windows 7 computer, it was so far gone that it just needed wiped, and I had to install windows clean, because they didn't have their recovery disc, and didn't have driver discs, man I'd be like yeah you give me $200 bucks. But if I had to install windows 10 for someone, meh, $15.

Re: Handles in BGT, need help

2018-01-09 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : CAE_Jones via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Handles in BGT, need help

To be honest? I don't see the point, either. This makes sense for low level stuff, like passing around pointers for ints in C, but BGT would be just fine—nay, better off—if it was just assumed implicitly that a reference to an object is it's handle unless there is explicitly an oppAssign method defined. When would you not use handles? It's derived from C, sure, but in practice, all it does is make for extra typing and more tedious porting.Compare with Java, where all objects are treated as pointers, all primitives are treated as values, and references and syntax and dotting are accordingly simplified. (Except for Strings, but those are always special cases.) I think the majority of the time spent porting my games from Java to BGT was arranging all those [ a-t ] signs, and parentheses, because how do those fit into order of operations, anyway? And the main thing holding me back from porting BGT games to other languages is that I'd have to either write a script to remove every single [ a-t ] and its parentheses, or do so by hand. ... Also how Python made the terniary operator b if a else c, and everyone else ever made it a? b : c, but I digress. So, if you're using objects in BGT, use [ a-t ] signs. An array of objects? Object@[]. A function that takes/returns objects? Object@ myfunc(object@ param). Class properties? [ a-t ]. Comparing objects? @a==@b. Dictionaries? Use [ a-t ] even more. BGT dictionaries are in desperate need of wrapping in something less cumbersome. The only weird thing is that you can do this: @a=b, or call that function from earlier like @a=myfunc(b). So I guess you only use [ a-t ] on the right side for comparisons and dictionaries? Why? I don't know, but those operations do seem kinda special in this regard, so whatever.Basically, you have to say @a=b, because just a=b tries to change a (the object). Except you can't do that anyway without opAssign, because BGT objects are not C-style structs, so there is no default for a=b. You're almost never working with objects directly, just pointers. It's through properties and methods that you can affect the underlying data,. You'd think this would mean you would only need the [ a-t ] for opAssign, but I did not develop Angelscript and I do not know C++ and I'm probably missing something obvious to a CSmith.So. Your example.sound@ mysound=synth.write_wave_sound();Or if you're assigning it to a pre-existing sound:sound@ mysound;@mysound=synthwrite_wave_sound();This is why BGT desperately needs a the "new" keyword, or some equivalent. either that, or to just throw the handles under the hood. -_-  Even better: vectors do not take handles well. So they work more intuitively, unlike sounds or dictionaries.

Re: Windows vs Linux

Linux is great for a number of reasons, most of which are a google search away so I won't go on about that. Thw downside is that if you want to do CLI stuff, and you probably do, its a process getting into. The good thing is here is help out there, you get in touch with the right people who have experience with stuff, and they can help you fix things that come up.Command line stuff is nice, there are open ended possibilities. an easy little trick to find a certain process if you know its name, but need its PID is to do like ps -ef | grep Grep is a powerful tool which I don't pretend to fully understand, but that shifted backslash key, which looks like a straight line vertically on the screen, or a broken vertical line with a cap in the middle on some fonts. That's pipe symbol and it doesn't just work on grep, you can pipe things in and out of tools and redirect std:in and all that jazz. I really only know the basics though.cd for change directory, EX:  cd /home/dingbat123/myshit or cd ~/myshitls, as a bunch of options, I use ls -l when I want to check perms, and most other times ls -1 which makes things single column and one entry per line.man tells you all about it in glorious detail with a viewer you have the ability to scroll up and down by various unitsmkdir to make a directorychmod to change perms, I too stupid to learn octal so I just do like chmod -R u+rwxXst mydir the -R means recursivetouch creates a file, can also do with the one redirect symbol which is >, or the two which is >> to append. It's worth noting you don't have to type then redirect, like piping, you can get the info from wherever you want, from other utilities etc.systemctl for a lot of admin type shit, restarting services, and even rebooting or shutting down the machinepwd to figure out what directory you're in, stands for print working directorycp and mv to copy or move, mv can be used to rename as wellrm to remove, haha, sure you're aware of the huge thing about not using rm -rf *, even though its since been protected against, but I do use rm -rf a lot because if you don't, it makes you clear out directories before it will delete them.top and htop, a bit problematic for screen reader users because it keeps updating and forcing changes to readVi... Vi scares the shit out of me. I've only used it under the guidance of a master I do not really know how to do anything in itnano is the CLI editor that you can find on most distrostail, this one lets you grab the last bits of a file and is configurable, but I don't know how to configure itstartx will start X11 if its configured correctly which you shouldn't need to do unless you install something like Arch or Gintoo from the ground up.shit what else, idk other peeps take over, I'm friggin tired.

Hi,So the subject name pretty much says it all. I am wanting to get into linux for a long time now but the fact that from the day I got a pc,  I had windows and now I am aware about it's insides does not allow me to switch my os entirely. So here I welcome all answers from linux and window users, why they hate/like each operating system etc. Please also note that I'm a developer that's why I'm bothered about getting it. I've heard linux is called the os of programmers. command line allows us to work faster and gives more power in our hands. these are the things I've heard but I don't know how much true they are. And if we talk about accessibility, how much usable things are with orca in linux? reading pdfs and such. and games, well, I Don't think that's a thing on linux.Regards,Amit

Re: Handles in BGT, need help

Hi,at first I did not get handels in bgt at all. I had same questions and here is what I've found:handels are pointers to an object. if you wanted to make a function which will decrease the volume of a playing file you would use handels in the following way:void volume_manager(sound@my_object) {// here my_object is a handle. when you will call this function you have to pass something which is an object of sound class because the function requires it.// read on, things will become clearif (key pressed(page up) {my_object.volume=my_object.volume-1;fade(my_object);//fade so that we don't decrease the volume abruptly}else if (key pressed(page down) {// same code goes here, but this time for increasing the volume}}we are done. now that function can be called in a gameloop and it can increase/decrease the volume nicely when page up or page down are pressed. note that we could have never done this if we were to pass a filename. we had to pass an actual object of sound class. that's why and how handles are used.I might not have explained properly; in that case someone more experienced than me will try for sure.Regards,Amit

My question therefore, is for future reference and hopefully for anyone to make use of. Are we allowed to use the headings in posts to mark out sections if we stick to the lower level ones, like anything greater than say 4, so heading level 5 and 6? I wouldn't see the need to do this in just conversational type stuff, but articles certainly, or guides, walkthroughs, whatever that sort of thing.

I think this issue is unique to the OP and thus, doesn't warrant a change. I like the way it is now, if I don't create a poll, its escape or nvda space and two taps of B to get to submit, no biggie. Here's the kicker, I just created a topic with a poll just like 30 secs ago in the dev room and it doesn't look like the poll created. I wouldn't expect it to let me vote on my own, but I would have thought it would have shown a button or something to see the votes. Maybe because there aren't any as of yet, but I don't know, it looks like the poll didn't get created.

Handles in BGT, need help

Damned if this doesn't confuse the crap out of me no matter how many times I read the relevant sections in the documentation, or study the examples. Well, I will never be a talented programmer, this I know, and accept, but I want to be able to do this. I've asked in the skype group and got help there a bit but I still can't figure the thing out. What I want to do is be able to use the tone_synth object, I want to have a function that generates the data I specif and loads it into memory by use of the write_wave_sound. Yes, I know I can just make the file and that makes things a lot easier, but that's not what I want, and that teaches me nothing because I already know how to do it. I just don't get handles at all. I don't get what the point is of them, if I had to guess, I would say it might be something like in C# how you have static vars vs abstract or whatever they call it, but I'm not sure about that.So here's what I need:- the reason you use them at all- what they do-how to use them, with examples, and if someone could help me more privately if I can't figure this out on my own.- how to pass a handle from this sound object into other functions I've created.I'm making a little tool off of Colton's thing he did on twitter. I want to code the thing myself, and do as much of it as possible, but I need help with this part, once I've got this down I'm straight, I can manage the rest.

brutally honest, for I will be hated, but here it goes. say hi to windows 10, people. I'm still sad day after day, that we have no choice. the only way to avoid these things like the above is to get a refurbished win8 device. I know this is not the answer, but honestly, 1709 has sent older devices in the grave. I heard too many instances, where updates just break things, in some cases, break things critically. I'm currently stuck on my  build, my windows 10 would need a reformat, which I can't afford right now. I couldn't even fix it with an in place upgrade. I've just about had it with win10, to be honest. I know this isn't the kind of answer you were after, but really.

Nope, I just installed the speech SDK via winetricks and the dlls argument.Tried it on my 17.10 laptop and it did the same thing, I only installed the speechsdk file, it changed my whole session from a Mate to gnome (I'll assume fallback), so no clue what's up with that. That's just something absolutely weird with the speech SDK

Re: Redspot: The destruction of UKA and the rise of hypocrisy

@ivan your game has similar issues, maybe not the sort of favoritism, but certainly balance as new people can't kill anybody who's halfway decked out, has vehicles, just grenades the shit out of you. I can evade like a mofo though, but still, when I get good shots in, when one of my grenades lands on target, when I get three or four sniper shots from 200 or so units away, it has no effect, its like a single mosquito trying to kill a grizzley bear with its bite.Believe me, if I could code worth a fuck, I would create a game and show yall how shit really works XD No shields, no robots, accurate bullet physics, accurate gun mechanics, i.e. whenever you shoot, if its a rifle, you have to pull the bolt back and jack another round into the chamber by pushing it forward again, if it was a shotgun, you'd have to pump it. You'd have a bunch of weapons, but none ungodly powerful. Rifles would work up to say 200 units away, where pistols would work maybe 30-35. There would be vital zones that would kill you in one shot, head, heart / lungs, etc. You also would have to factor bleeding in. But say max you could stand up to is around 6 shots if none of them hit vitals. After you took the first shot, your audio environment would start shifting and warping in weird ways, coming and going, and blurring in waves because you're in pain. The more you bleed out, the worse your field shrinks around you. Getting hit in the leg would mean you can't run or walk as fast, getting hit in the arm or hand would mean you can't use your weapon effectively, with a pistol, you could use it with the other hand, but with a rifle or shotgun, no way, you can't one hand those, maybe you could one hand a shotgun fully healthy, I wouldn't want to, You could also one hand a light light rifle, like a .22, but not be accurate. That's right, you'd have full 360 degree turning, but also aim up and down. There would be a sprinting system, but it would require that you tap the arrow or W key, the faster you tap, the faster you run, up to a cap of course. Doing this means you might, and that's a kind of slim chance, but might get away from someone. Sprinting would also bring into play a stamina system, for instance, you could never sprint for say, more than 30 seconds at any one time, you do and you start slowing down and breathing hard, and tapping the arrows wouldn't do anything. Running yourself to that point would also slow down your walk speed for a time, but your stamina would recover. If you could stand still and not move, it would recover faster.  I would also introduce rolls and cover, Some cover would be hard cover, maybe non destructable, or maybe destructable by explosives alone, but not just bullets. Other cover would be susceptible to gunfire, and while it would protect you, it would only take the punishment before falling apart, at which point you would be exposed again. Vehicles, I don't know, certainly if those were a thing, they'd have some constraints. You would have cars, very fast for moving you across the map, but very susceptible, easily damaged, also if you hit the tires, driving would be very difficult. If there were tanks, they would not be like you see them currently. The turret and the vehicle's direction would be independant. The turret would move slowly, spinning it 180 might take 10 seconds. You'd also have to lob the shot if it was far away. No tanks shooting 200 units or something, and no tanks just whipping 90's in a half a second and raining hellfire on you. When I say gun physics, each gun you got would come in a state appropriate to it, but a non functional one I can guarantee you. The player would start out with nothing, and I mean nothing, maybe like a knife or something, but that's it. Not only would they need to find a gun, they'd need to find the ammo for that gun. The gun would come with one clip  already inserted, but empty if its a pistol. Rifles have built in magazines, so they don't use clips. You could find extra clips, but those clips would come empty. To use the gun, you would need to eject the clip from it, then load each shell in, and put the clip back, then you would need to pull the slide or bolt back and let it go to force a round in. You also would have the option to put a shell manually into the chamber, so your rounds would be like clipsize +1. You would also have to turn the safety off, even if you never turned it back on again, that's fine, but in order to shoot, all guns come safety on, so you need to switch it off or you point and hit the shoot key and nothing happens XD . When you use up all your rounds in that clip, you would have to load the clip up again. If you found more clips to fit that gun, and yes, you would have to get the right clip to fit the right gun, you would have two options if you ran out of the shells in the clip in your gun. The best option is to switch clips, putting the empty clip in your pocket. But

Programs like that are flagged all the time because jumping around with code execution like that could cause disastrous results.BGT code is not jit compiled. The AngelScript source code is compiled into byte code. The byte code is interpreted by a virtual machine. This is still probably enough to cause an antivirus to bat an eye. I'm sure it doesn't help that there's a block of data hanging from the end of the executable file, and the program is making decisions based on it.

Re: Voice chat in BGT

I was strictly talking about real time voice chat. And the length of transmission depends on how large the clip is. A short 1-2 second clip might take up to 1.5 seconds; a long 2 minute clip would probably take 10-15 seconds. Real time chat like Skype would lag the entire game to horrifying degrees in BGT. It's not practical nor worth it. That's why we have programs like Mumble or discord -- they offer this without you having to implement it yourself. As for why I reply to these, I already gave my response. You guys want all these awesome features that will make your games possibly the best yet you continue to jump to BGT every single time. And the only reason that I know of that you guys do it is because one, it's easy, and two, it's what everyone excluding myself seems to recommend. Look at a hero's call. It's not written in BGT. It's written in C# and look at what a great game it is. Tactical battles isn't written in BGT either and that game was bad-ass. Even in C++ with SFML's example of VOIP that's with no other network activity happening -- just pure audio transmission. It wouldn't be very practical once you started adding in things like weapons, movement, etc., into the program, and then had a lot of players connected. It just saddens me to see you guys express an idea of something like "I want voice chat" or "I want database support" in your games and you leap to BGT and just hope it can solve all your problems. Things like this would most likely be far easier in C++ or other languages because you can interface with the library headers directly rather than having to go through dLL calls. BGT makes things easy but game programming is never easy. Programming something huge is never easy in general. It would certainly make me (and probably others) happy if you guys at least looked towards other options rather than BGT being your immediate pick. We could even make a menu class in C++ to make things familiar for you. But no one's going to jump on it if none of you guys will use it.

@jonikster, I'd like to gently correct you on a major point -- that applications get less orders and web gets more. Both get lots of orders; really, the thing that depends on how many orders you get is who likes what. Lots of people like web apps; lots of people like standard applications. As for the language you want to use, go with PHP. And, as more than one person has said, jonikster, you need to pick and select. Stop leaping between all these languages like this -- you'll never get anything done if you do.

I'm not disagreeing with admin actions either, in fact, I guess what I'm saying is, maybe we need to revise the wrong and the right, and perhaps edit the rules/warnings/bans, if need be.

Any Windows 10 Users Experiencing Severe Slow Downs After Update

Hello,      I was just curious if anyone else has had their computer suddenly experiencing a huge lag spike in their computer's operating and use.  Today, once I started up my laptop, it took literal minutes to open up applications, or functions of said applications, with a loading symbol appearing for every action, at times crashing my laptop.  The only difference from today and yesterday was an Windows update that was installed today.    Looking up said update, apparently there was a security flaw with some intell chips that resulted in a patch that would slow down computers.  Though for Window 10 users with newer computers, the slow down would be unnoticeable, but I'm starting to doubt that claim.  This all started today, and the update is the only change on my computer, which was purchased new only a few months ago, and is running Windows 10.

Re: What are your expectations for 2018 in terms of PC and mobile gaming

again, I have been urging huboodle to expand beyond the simple stuff. My own belief is I believe in their plan. A lot of games are made niche, which is not necessarily a good business model, especially with the high underemployment and unemployment among the blind, and other game companies either give a lip service to  blind accessibility or don't bother, as in many cases it isn't cost effective or at least doesn't seem so. App A11Y with their simple games might not be giving us quite what we want, but its commitment to making stuff for both the sighted and the blind to play together is something I really like to see. Out of Sight Games in also getting eventually to adding graphics to their blind-accessible game is also a step I think it is good to take. The echo and the google home, working largely from audio imput and output already are practically made for us, so the future of having a lot of areas where the blind and sighted can work together and play together on a more equal footing Is looking pretty bright.I love Crazy Party, and Entombed, but I think we will not get the truly massive, truly amazing games that will propel us to a brand new place unless barriers are cut down where possible. AHC and Huboodle are attempting to do that in making stuff that works for the blind but would appeal to the sighted too, and I want to see a lot more of that going forward.

There's a very good chance that if you were having an error two days ago, you're having the same error now, because bugs usually don't stop happening at random, and the game hasn't been patched quite yet.

Re: AMD against Intel?

In certain workloads, the i5 will pull ahead and the benchmarks show this. Will you notice it in real life? I doubt it. As I said, bulldozer was a tough architecture for AMD, they squeezed everything from it possible in bristol ridge and it only manages to keep up with intel parts in the same bracket due to it's high clock speeds. The GPU side is a different story, The r7 integrated GPU will outperform intel's offering any day, so if you wish to do any type of main stream pc gaming the lower CPU performance is what you will trade for a more powerful GPU if you go with AMD. If you get the same machine with a 7th generation i5, it's an extra $110 for a slightly better dual core CPU and a worse GPU.What's your budget for this thing and  does it *have* to be a laptop are the things I kinda want to know. If your budget is $400 and you have to take the machine with you then I think that is honestly as good as you're going to get. I don't think anything  is going to beat out that combination of hardware at that price.

You misunderstand me a bit here. I'm not saying I have to shut up because I'm afraid of the mods. I'm not. I know I haven't done anything that breaks rules or seriously insults anyone. I've made a bit of a challenge to something I'm a bit concerned about while also conceding that Musical Professor needed dealing with. If I for some reason thought that doing so was dangerous, I frankly wouldn't be here. No no. When I said I'd shut up, all I meant is that I really have nothing else to say that wouldn't be repeating myself.Regardless of that guy's ability to help himself or whatnot, threatening the site and whatever, no matter how nebulous the treats might seem and how powerless he might actually be to carry them out, is also not acceptable. That might have justified the ban in and of itself (i.e., if he'd argued the way I am, maybe he gets a hearing, but the way he dealt with it just slams the door on him). I'm not sure.

Re: Everdark Clash enters public beta

What usually gets me with them is if they're split up on opposite sides of a large pit, like the waterfall. In that case, I try to use projectiles, especially those that stun without momentum (Asaki's stars are great for this, but most characters have at least one that does it). The thing to worry about is that they usually aim at you when reproducing, so if you're surrounded, they will spawn on both sides. Their AI is very simple, in that they don't know how to retreat or try anything clever, so you can use that to your advantage, when you aren't trapped in a swarm.I just checked to be sure, but I think all those rocks in episode 10 can cause the ones across the waterfall to fall in, if they're close to the edge. I usually avoid those just because I have some other weapon I want to hold onto. Also, episode 10 might just have a secret way to escape the first wave without destroying them.

@Jayde,Shut up?  Please don't!  don't turn into one of those guys who basically has this "the mods will flog me because I don't say as they do and do as they say" mentality.  That's not who we are and, the day that becomes even one member of the moderation panel I'll be the one bringing it up for deep discussion, or throwing in the towel and making sure everyone and their mother knows why!  it's unacceptable!Your concerns are well articulated and deserve our attention; I am personally giving them my time and willingly so!  Honestly, I'm still in shock over the whole thing and, what makes it even more interesting is that what you say may have some truth to it!  Perhaps the guy seriously can't help himself for whatever the reason may be!  Here's the problem: when he received his ban he decided to continue being threatening, to the point of suggesting that he would personally make sure this entire site went down!  We have to draw lines somewhere! My overall philosophy when running/leading anything has always been a more laid back, laissez-faire type approach where there are as few regulations as possible and few people to clamp down on you.  there's enough legalism in the world elsewhere that, especially when it comes to gaming, I don't see why gamers should have to worry about who is going to tell them what to do.  the obvious problem with this idea is that anyone has the right to pretty much disregard anyone else.  A system like the one here on ag net doesn't allow for such things, and those of us who police it are entirely aware of it.Sadly, we'll never get it entirely right, and there are times when, even while I'm handing down a verdict I'm wondering what the overall consequence is going to be to the forum collectively.  Nevertheless, I keep on trying and, as I stated in post 16, if it's an issue called to my attention personally, and I can be sure of how the majority is spelling it, I'll make sure to the best of my abilities the majority wins.

Re: Huboodle - Five games in one!

Hi,A few things:(1) First I wanted to say thanks for the support.  We are a two man shop and appreciate every user we get. Thanks for playing!(2) For those finding bugs, for the best response please use the feedback button on the settings page. It sends us your device info to help us speed up the debugging process.  Also on the topic of bugs, please keep in mind that this is a first version and there will be bugs.  We will get them turned around as fast as we can, but there will be bugs so please be patient.(3) Login issues.  If you have played (and still have installed) Word War or Battle Cats you will need to delete before opening Hubboodle if you want to log in with social media.  Facebook and Twitter will open word war or battle cats instead of Huboodle if both are installed.  We have retired Word War and Battle Cats since both are included with Huboodle.  Also the password reset is only for those using email to login, you can't reset your social media password from our game.  If you have never played before and want to use email you can play as a guest and then go in at anytime to the settings page and update your email and password.   If still having issues, please use the feedback button on the settings page and let us know what you are experiencing and we will get you set up.(4) We will be releasing regular updates so keep taking updates to ensure you have the latest and greatest.  In fact, the app store should have our latest release with several bug fixes in the next 48 hours (waiting for Apple approval). Future Huboodle releases will also include new accessible games such as Trivia Trail, Roulette, Oregon Zombie Trail, and a dice battle game that are all in the works. Thanks again for playing!-AppA11y Team

Re: AHC - hint for the mines

Hey guys.Spoiler alert:I've been playing AHC for about a week or so solid now, really getting into the meat of the game.So far I've cleared several zones and quests, really advancing quick. I've just got a couple of questions about the graveyard, and the silver shade mines.Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.I've been clearing the graveyard mausoleums fairly successfully, and have already defeated lord ulcano (apologies for misspelling). I've told Liam of my victory and he said that he would meet me in the shrine to attempt to retrieve the dark item.I've tried to meet him there twice now, standing in the mausoleum itself, both inside and out, and even re-entering the crypts, but he doesn't seem to appear. Is this a bug? or am I waiting for him in the wrong place? I even tried to meet him in the ancient shrine in the graveyard that is part of Alexia's quest Pilgrim's progress, and he was still a no show.Secondly, I've cleared all 4 goblin encampments in the mines, killing the kings and taking their keys to unlock the gates on the great bridge. I've entered the goblin palace, and found a few more progressions for other quests, such as finding willhelm for the reunited quest. However, as I go through the palace, doors keep locking behind me, herding me towards the goblin king's arena.I attempted to clear that zone once, and was doing well until my party was picked off in the fifth fight with the goblin king's forces. Is there any way to avoid getting lured into the trap, or is that the only way? in which case i'll need to try again and see what I can do differently. Thanks for any tips you can give me.Kindest regardsArcher

Re: Announcement, musical professor banned from the forum

Yeah..I think we're going to have to agree to disagree here, Dark. Crudity, yes. Misogyny/sexism (at least in the posts I saw)? Not necessarily.I know it was his second warning, or I'd probably have suggested a one-month or three-month ban for a first offense when it comes to personal attacks. This forum is run fairly loosely, so if nothing else, coming down harder on him when other personal attacks have been let off with warnings or less seems a bit odd to me.I don't like being a traffic cop, citing offenses wherever I can in order to make a quota. I hate that feeling. This is why I don't report every single post I see as somewhat offensive, because frankly I have thick skin and don't want to give you folks even more to dredge through. I also tend to steer clear of certain types of threads, at least at present, because not only am I uninterested in the subject matter but I know the sorts of people which frequent them, and the sort of conversations they incite. Four words. Sam Tupy. Ultra Power. No, they aren't related, I know that, but just look at all the grief over certain games related to Sam, and all the grief about Ultra Power clones, people trying to hack them. One forum member who is currently in good standing has, in the past, gone so far as to say he'd hack and encourage others to learn how to do so because of some sort of unfairness. The decision that was brought down in that case was basically "everybody stop fighting". Never mind the illegality. So I'm afraid, as I said, we'll just have to not see eye to eye. If you like, though, I'll keep more of an eye out for the kind of things I'm thinking about for review, and flag them to your attention. I am not angry, not trying to micromanage your job nor impugn your decision-making skills. I disagree with you on a couple of things and think maybe this whole reaction was just a bit too strong (but only a bit, mind you), given the decisions and precedents made and set elsewhere, but I can and will leave it there. I can assure you that I'm not looking for an excuse to cause drama. This thread wasn't locked, however, and so I thought it was within my rights to speak my mind. Having done so, I'll shut up now.

Thanks for the clarifications, Joseph, particularly with regard to Wilhelm. Heh. I was pretty sure I was right about the other two things, the king and Raise Undead, and I was.I haven't had a ton of problems with the wolf dens, but the volume issue is something they're trying to fix. Ditto a whole pile of other things, so I'm hugely excited about this forthcoming update, whenever it is. I'm travelling today and part of tomorrow, so we'll see.I believe someone said that fast travel in Silvershade is opened too late. What I think was meant by this is that you have to be nearly done the main quest in that area before you can get it, and there's a lot of backtracking besides. lol The same is true of the graveyard...you have to be at least nearly done the main story in that area. Deepwood though? Not even close. I had it unlocked before I even got to the ruins. lol I'm not saying there's a huge problem with this, but I find that the later fast travel is earned, the less of a bonus it really is, particularly since, in the graveyard especially, using beacons is a slightly longer but rather easy way to get where you need to go. One of these days I'm going to do an evil playthrough and try to annoy/betray/upset everyone I can. Heh.

Re: Announcement, musical professor banned from the forum

I use the term "misogyny" in this case because degrading sexual language was used to a woman in a situation where the poster was certain of her gender, particularly following on from the so called aforementioned "joke", and the term misogyny is I find a more helpful one when discussing insulting behaviour than the culturally loaded, frequently misused and often polarising term "sexism" Had the remarks been made to an openly gay or transgender man I'd have used the term "homophobic" had the remarks been made to a straight man I'd have assumed that either A, the poster was simply sighting cultural standards of crudity in order to be offensive or B, the poster was showing an implicit homophobia in  implication that the man he addresses was gay and thus a target for sexual based insults.had the poster been female and addressed a similar level of sexually crude remarks to a man I'd have accused her  of misandry. All this however is rather beside the point, since whatever category of offense you file it under, musical professor was definitely trying to be offensive here. As we all know, personal attacks aren't allowed on this forum, and sexual insults are about as personal as personal attacks get. The fact that said personal attack may or may  have some  of extra nasty agenda behind it is just the extreme foul icing on the truly disgusting cake, a cake which we shal neither have nor eat around here! As regards the severity of  the ban Jade, also recall this is not the first time musical professor has been offensive (I can actually go and dig the post out if you wish), he received a temporary ban on that occasion, so this was! his second chance.

Oh, that's steam for mac. That's not steam for windows, although Peter did end up taking the mac guide down, either that or the dropbox link expired.

I can't find them because the sound is always on full loudness, it doesn't get louder the closer you get, and then when I stand there and wait for it to make the sound, I don't hear it anymore after that, so I turn around, and I don't hear it, and I walk around and wait, then I hear it, so I go to it, then its off to one side, so I turn to that side and I don't hear the sound anymore.

I actually think there could be some mental illness there judging from that post. His thoughts seem chaotic and his reasoning doesn't make sense.

Re: Announcement, musical professor banned from the forum

And that's precisely my point from the first post I made in this topic. People who have been banned for hacking, for distributing keys to software, for encouraging piracy in general, for linking to other illegal material, have been allowed to come back eventually. Some have reformed, the odd one has not, and I have no doubt that the ones who have not reformed have gotten the hammer again. Rightly so, too, I might add.The reason I'm splitting hairs on misogyny is because, while I do agree that something like that should result in a permanent ban - we really, really don't need any more of it in the world, much less this community - I'm not convinced that the posts I've seen were misogynistic. Inappropriate, certainly, and worthy of punishment, but not misogynistic. If the punishment for generally offensive/hostile conduct was, say, a year's ban, while the punishment for misogyny was a permanent one, perhaps the permanent-ban punishment in this case was misapplied due to a difference in label. It is my opinion that people throw the word "misogyny" around way, way too much. What we have here is someone who did not take his warning well at all. He deserved to be punished for the way he reacted. As has been stated - and I agree with this sentiment - if he'd responded to his warning with humility and an apology, then okay...you keep an eye out, but you let it go, conditionally anyway. What we also have here, I think, is someone whose ability to communicate in writing is actually putting him at a disadvantage. Most of the mods are well-spoken and easily able to articulate themselves. This guy, I think, isn't in that same position. So he reacted to being warned by going over the top and getting hostile, very likely because he's feeling threatened/outgunned and helpless. This is a reaction I've seen time and time again. And lest you think I'm a bleeding heart who wants to give everyone a chance, please remember what I said before. He doesn't deserve a free pass. He did wrong and needs dealing with. For me personally, for whatever this might be worth, I'd have given him a six-month or year ban, then let him back with the understanding that his next offense was the end of the line. Period. No discussion, no appeal, game over.

I still don't understand what people are saying about the wolf dens, I didn't have any trouble accept for the fact that they seemed to keep playing sounds after I had already cleared them out, and I sometimes had to wait a bit and listen for them to play the sound again.
