Mitch, that area is completely optional. It's just a home to some unique ghosts, and some loot. For anyone here who's actually good at stats, have any of you played around with ghost leonatar? If so, how'd you find it? Because 99 defense at level 70 seems... really, really bad. lol And leonatar wasn't exactly a tank anyway, but at least during my experience in the first game, it could take a bit of punishment and get back up. This one though... not sure.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

@Imaginatrix:I can vouch for Fowlusion being useful. Because it's Plant, it's not weak to Electric, and with Solar Conversion it can set up and sweep the entirety of the first Master Stadium battle, and it's also good against some opponents later.I don't think you need to worry about Bearnace, at least for this particular set of fights. Between Kangachan and Wavotamis you're well set for facing Steel types, plus Kangachan takes care of Ice if you have the final opponent where that matters. I found Wavotamis tanky while also being able to dish out damage, he was very useful against Electric types.I'd bring Kaboerain, Kangachan, Fowlusion, Wavotamis, mortrex and Erroir. Get the last 3 to around level 60 and you're golden. If you want water types to train Erroir against, you can bring it down to the watery part of Ascendants Path. It's not too far from the Master Stadium side, and you can copter back when you're done. Or you can just level him up around Validation Road or Outer Tradale, just avoid fighting the occasional Earth type that comes up.

Is it worth getting a Switch?

2019-11-22 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : rwbeardjr via Audiogames-reflector

Is it worth getting a Switch?

Hello everyone. Question. So recently, I have seen more and more blind and visually impaired people get the Nintendo Switch. I have always said I didn't want one because of it not having a screen reader. However, people say that it is not that hard. I do have Zoom, which although it helps me, it isn't always the most effective all the time. First, a question for people with limited sight. Is the zoom feature any good? Now, for the ones with  no vision, or some vision who can't read print, how are you expected to run through the initial setup process? Does Zoom work? Or are we expected to just click random things and hope it works? Any information is appreciated.

2019-11-22 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Trajectory via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

Okay, so this is mostly directed at Jayde, and I feel I'm posting this against my better judgement, but here goes:I have wanted to develop a sizeable game like this for a long time. As you well know, so far I haven't come through. Part of it is gumption, part of it is that I lack skill in areas like sound design and music. Oh, and there's no way I could come up with stuff like creature names/ descriptions. I think I could come up with a decent storyline, memorable characters and decent gameplay, but I would certainly need some delegates to handle the rest of it. You and I probably have the potential to make a decent team, as our strengths and weaknesses seem like they would complement each other. Thing is, and I'm going to take the same approach here as you do with your criticisms, if it were me in Aaron's shoes I'd be put off by your approach too. Your social graces leave a lot to be desired. They're slightly better than they've been in the past, but not by much. See? I pretty much paraphrased you.Aaron is one guy. One guy who has somehow managed to produce a game that is comparable in size to products backed by development teams literally three orders of magnitude larger. Until the AAA game development firms jump on the accessibility bandwagon, there may never be another capable of such a feat, just as there has never been another in the past. What I'm trying to say is, of course there are going to be surface level issues that will slip threw the cracks with a product of this magnitude. I mean, look at A Hero's Call. It was basically a train wreck in its initial release.I firmly believe that if you had spent half as much time as you've spent going on the offensive with respect to writing on actually copying examples of mistakes from the game and sending those to Aaron, he would have fixed them. In fact I'd be willing to bet my remaining senses on it. I can hardly see him ignoring that. You claim you've found hundreds of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. Is that accurate? I don't know. Are there some? absolutely.  All I know for sure is you also claimed that the rhythm games require precision down to hundredths of a second, which I'm sorry to say is straight up exaggeration. Were this the case those games would be physically impossible for a human to complete, as studies show our reaction time with respect to sound is about 1/4 of a second. As I see it, you could accomplish one of two things. You could turn your current criticisms into meaningful improvements (as you've managed to do to some extent with your type chart and other suggestions), or you could cause permanent damage to the state of the accessible games scene as a collective. I promise you that if a big name dev came to this thread while considering devoting their developers' time to accessibility and saw a forum administrator bashing a developer for imperfection despite being a leader in innovation, they would turn around and say screw this. Please give this some consideration. Would a game with perfect writing from the get go matter to you if you could finish that game in two hours or less? I'm by no means asking you to ignore imperfections that hamper your ability to enjoy a game to its fullest. I'm simply asking you and a few others to consider the most likely outcome of the approach you're taking in addressing them. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

LMAO. Am I missing something with unshackle, or is this a bug? I'm using Dormanoid to fight the mythical guardian, which means he's equipped with a dark matter blade. His magic and strength are at 80 as a result. If I use unshackle, his magic and strength, instead of increasing, drop down to 20. LOLWhat?@FeatheryPeachKitsune Thanks for reminding me that it's a Mutmo... of all things. I would've thought it'd be a sound manamon of another type? For a mon that's supposed to be good, she keeps dying to things, but I need an Earth Type for Electric nuisances.Bearnace (Level 24): Got an Exp Pal on him until he's tough enough, though I have no life tonics left to give him when he's high enough level. I have a Sirennia and Fowlusion in the high 60's as well from my Requiem team, but I didn't want to have three water types and half my team weak to Electric, because people keep breaking out electric types and messing me up.

There are lots of areas with wild encounters around the late-game cities. For a Flame type you could try Outer Tradale, I seem to remember there being a lot of Insect type encounters there. Would probably be a good spot to level it up. If you want to share your team I could make some other suggestions.

For  mappdifficulties, what I did is look at my Mud log for a particular travel to a place, and write down the directions in a Word document.Eventually you won't need that, and you'll know the directions by heart, plus what's on the path along the way.Parsing is kind of tricky, but I think it's just a matter of remembering to do "look in THE sack"instead of "look in sack."

Re: Logical: Realistic Weaponry and Amunition?

I'm not a programmer, but I do know a fair amount about guns, so if anyone has any questions you can ask and I'll be happy to help if I can!  I believe Ironcross does too, and he has more practical experience than me, though I probably know more about the overarching mechanics and models. All I can say right away is please, please god do not make the shell/casing sound, that clinking metal or clattering plastic thing? play at the position of the person being fired at when the bullet misses.  No, it should be played at the position of the one doing the shooting, instead.I've heard this way, way too often in games, for instance StW, and I get it, I thought that's how guns worked when I was a kid too, but 5 minutes on wikipedia or Youtube will explain why that's totally wrong. In fact I would just avoid using that type of sound all together on any surface other than concrete, or wood/metal/rocks if you have the correct sounds for it, since otherwise it's really too quiet of a noise to be useful anyway. For those who are confused (which is totally understandable if you don't care all that much about guns) that sound is the empty casing or shell (a thin layer of brass, copper, or sometimes steel) which holds the actual bullet (which is usually made of lead) as well as the explosives needed to fire it.When the bullet is still inside the casing, it's called a cartridge or round.  When it's been fired, it's just a separate bullet and casing. The words shell, casing, and jacket all mean the same thing, but you really only say jacket when the casing is still on the bullet rather than when it's been separated for what ever reason, and people still call shotgun ammo shells weather or not they've been fired.Anyway, this protective casing holds everything in place, but it also keeps the actual bullet from scraping up the inside of the barrel as it's being shot outwards and leaving a bunch of lead residue behind which would quickly make your gun too dirty to work properly. When the gun is fired, the bullet leaves this casing and heads down the barrel, while the casing it's self stays in the chamber after it is spent.  Obviously we need to make room for the next round though, so an ejector grabs that empty casing and flings it out of a slot in the side (or sometimes top or bottom) of the gun.The sound your hearing is that empty casing hitting the ground and bouncing, and has nothing to do with the actual bullet, which has now sped along it's marry way and burned off nearly all the remaining powder in the casing as well.Depending on the type of gun and bullet power, the casing could just be lightly pushed out so that it falls only a couple feet away, or it can be launched out several feet! Some casings go all the way to the top of the bullet, where as others only cover it part way and leave the nose of the bullet exposed.  This is where the term full metal jacket comes in for instance.A spent casing, having held them, is just a smooth, thin metal tube with an opening at one end and a slightly raised rim at the other, usually some numbers and a manufacturer name stamped into the closed bottom, and probably a little bit of powder left inside but not enough to be dangerous. For shotgun shells (which are almost always plastic) it's the same thing, just that instead of one bullet, it's usually going to be lots of smaller balls packed tightly in their, with the number and size of those balls determining what the round is used for. With shotguns, we call it bird shot for lots of really small balls (usually about 28 to 40 I believe) buckshot for a few bigger ones (usually 6 to 10) and a slug for a solid bullet.Again if anyone has any more questions, no matter how stupid you think they may be, weather it be caliber VS gauge, magazine VS clip, revolver VS removable magazine handgun, how far different guns can usually be used at, ETC, let me know and I'll try my best!  You can also use the forum email link on my post if you want.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

Regarding that first rhythm game: Stick with the tutorial, it'll eventually show you the other sound and what to do with it. This had me confused for a really long time. The tutorial just kept letting me do the auto rolls, I figured that was all there was to it, then I'd hear the manual sound and have no idea how to do it. Just barely scraped a 60 without them. haha. There is, thankfully, only 1 Manamon who needs to be traded while holding equipment to transform. And only 2 new trade transformations overall. The game doesn't tell you about the other new one anywhere, so I'll save you the headache: It's Venomander. I do wish someone had mentioned this somewhere. We get 2 NPCs who tell us about Grimident, but none about Venomander. Ah well.

This is where the term full metal jacket comes in for instance.A spent casing, having held them, is just a smooth, thin metal tube with an opening at one end, usually some numbers and a manufacturer name stamped into the closed bottom, and probably a little bit of powder left inside but not enough to be dangerous. For shotgun shells (which are almost always plastic) it's the same thing, just that instead of one bullet, it's usually going to be lots of smaller balls packed tightly in their, with the number and size of those balls determining what the round is used for. With shotguns, we call it bird shot for lots of really small balls (usually around 40 I believe) buck shot for a few bigger ones (usually 6 to 10) and a slug for a solid bullet.Again if anyone has any more questions, no matter how stupid you think they may be, weather it be caliber VS gauge, magazine VS clip, revolver VS removable magazine handgun, how far different guns can usually be used at, ETC, let me know and I'll try my best!  You can also use the forum email link on my post if you want.

Re: Trying out Linux.

Hello to all,I think I'll chime in with my experience with Linux, and why I am considering returning to Windows. To start, I have been running Linux as my main operating system at home since 2011. Accessibility of Linux has improoved in leaps and bounds since then, but it is not quite up to the level of windows. For example, Chrome doesn't yet work with Orca, but I have heard support is being worked on. Electron apps do not work either, so apps like Skype or Visual Studio Code do not yet work. Linux does have its good points. If you use a lot of commandline programs, programs like Speakup or BRLTTY work great. If I were going to rate the big three operating systems in terms of accessibility, it would look something like this: Windows, Linux, and Mac. Mac gets third because of the screwed up braille support. All that being said, I think Linux has the right idea especially when it comes to letting you, the user, control your computer. If I had to pick an operating system purely on accessibility, I would have to go with Windows. I personally am trying to decide if I want to give up some user freedoms to get a more productive setup. These are just my thoughts, and your experience with Linux may be much different.

FocusRite Control, software for configuring scarlet audio interfaces

2019-11-22 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : NevEd via Audiogames-reflector

FocusRite Control, software for configuring scarlet audio interfaces

Hi all! I am writing this post for anyone who has any of the focusrite scarlet interfaces that utilize the control software for configuring it. The software seems to be inaccessible. Fortunately I was able to get past the required firmware update with NVDA's OCR but I can't access any of the settings, through normal keyboard navigation or OCR. At least the interface is still usable in it's default configuration, but it's a bit of an annoyance that we can't change the settings for the output jacks, or the 1/4'' signal type for the front combo jacks, etc. Has anyone found a workaround for the software issue or even tried contacting Focusrite about this issue? I'm thinking about sending them an email myself because I just spent $299 on this interface and I'd like to be able to use it to it's full potential, and out of the people I do music with, I'm the guy that's known for knowing how to operate the equipment and make things tick and I'd like it to stay that way for convenience.

Re: Percussion music composition software?

Yeah I had to write that in a hurry, was late for school when I saw your post. Let me try correct my post. You need music notation software.I said BME off the top of my head, cause it was the first one that came to mind, but you can use muse score or something. BME however is the only one I know that would give you a propper feel, not that DAW type feel. Substituting is what I use in reaper, if I know what notes are what drum on the kit, then I just use that, like for example C would be a  kickdrum or something.I am just showing you how I would do it. I am a drummer, but I'm a play by ear guy, so not sure what the correct (If any) notation. So for now, I'd use reaper for that type of thing. But you just need to go into reaper and see what corrisponds to what.HTH, if you need me to break it down further, hit me up in a pm.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

A few thoughts here, but first a help me get unstuck question.I'm in the studio, f4. spoilersyep, spoilage, stop reading if you don't want spoilers.I've unlocked both doors with binary. I've taken a cannon after the second door into another section and beaten down the tamer there, and collected some nice loot too! But now, where the heck do I go? The cannon in the second part there takes me all the way back to the first door. There's also a force field after the second door I can't get down. I'm guessing I need to go there, but can't see how to do so. There's no switches around like there was for the force field guarding the calculator. I tried a search but this is kind of a generic keyword type thing so if this was answered before, beyond just look for cannons, I haven't found it in this 100 page topic, heh.Btw that box puzzle on the first, or was it second, floor really hung me up! First I tried pushing the box that was on the south wall all the way east thinking it would eventually let me out, but it got stopped by the item there. It was driving me crazy, trying to figure out how to move that box! It wasn't until a friend clued me in that I realized there are *two* east/west passages, and it was okay to push that south box east into the first one. Duh! haha.end of spoilersSome general thoughts I've jotted down.I hate that the stat checker guy is in that research facility rather than in a hotel. In the first game, I'd switch my team out, run and check stats on the six I loaded up, then swap and repeat. It's more work to do that now, unless I'm missing something somewhere.I'm good with music, but I can't even get past the first rhythm game! It's like the sounds in the game itself aren't even the same ones in the tutorial or something. Very frustrating.Still haven't figured out who evolves with what items, maybe I"m doing it wrong? For that market upgrade thing, do you have to donate the amount all at once, or does it add up over time?Again, search is great and I've used it several times successfully, but sometimes it's hard to get just the right keywords.

Re: Trying out Linux.

@27, I don't know of a generic "Linux Wiki". I know there's wikis like the Arch Wki -- which is really good. While it is primarily aimed at Arch Linux, its an incredibly good resources for learning how to configure various packages if your willing to adjust it to the distribution you've chosen. Ubuntu and Debian have their own wikis (though I don't know how well-off they are n terms of maintenance). In terms of books for learing practical LInux commands, go for "A Practical Guide to Linux® Commands, Editors, and Shell Programming, 3rd Edition" (or any late edition) (ISBN 9780133085082) or Linux Phrasebook, 2nd Edition, ISBN 9780133038590 (or any later edition). Again though, the most helpful resources are the documentation for the programs your using as well as man pages. Thoughs can be viewed with man (i.e. man mv). Though its not meant for "newcomers," its a valuable resource for quickly reminding yourself of how a command works and the syntax of them. Info pages contain full documentation fro commands, i.e.: the coreutils info pages contain excellent documentation on every single command coreutils contains. The differences between the books I listed is that A Practical Guide to Linux® Commands, Editors, and Shell Programming lists documentation for Unix commands in general (includingMacOS and Linux), whereas the Linux Phrasebook is a nice little pocket book that supplements man pages by easily categorizing tasks into chapters and commands.

I don't think so, but it's been said before that a bred manamon will always have 1 (or 3, in the case you have the family heart item) randomly selected stat inherited from its parent. So if you have a parent limewyrm with really lame stats, then you might be better off trying to get a better one from the wild. The rest are completely random, though as far as I'm aware.

That seems like more of a defense mechanism, I don't think Santa would have truly gone that route for his real sleigh. @audiogame that's interesting. The manual doesn't mention a globe, although it does say that he got there in about five minutes. It's one way to look at it, although he was never sucked into a globe, seemingly, unless, of course, it's not mentioned. In fact, this whole topic thrives on things that aren't mentioned.Important for those who want to possibly come up with something, I'll accept all sides of the spectrum, it could be a dream, it could be the real Santa, it could be something different, I'm doing this topic just to have some fun either way. You'll notice I haven't written too much of a storyline or my own thoughts on the workshop, and that's because I'd like others to join in with this topic too. Maybe people have all sorts of different ideas and versions of this workshop and lore.

Re: Trying out Linux.

@25, yes, you were stating your personal views. I never said you weren't. I was responding to your criticism -- which is a part of your personal opinion -- that LInux has lots of commands you need to remember and lots of options, and pointing you to extremely valuable sources to help you out with that problem. You also don't need to reference manual pages or documentation every time you want to do something. As someone who has worked with Linux for at least a decade, I can assure you of this. Moving, copying, deleting, editing, and creating files are the most common operations a user of a computer will need to do; hence, the commands are trivial to remember: mv to move files, cp to copy them, rm to delete them, and so on. (Editing a file tends to be a difficult choice depending on you ask, but there are always trivial editors likeNano, which I prefer.)You don't need to have a superiority complex to use Linux either. That may result after a time, but that mainly arises, I think, because when you ask questions people believe that the answer is obvious enough to them. But nto eveyone is like that (see stack overflow/stack exchange). There are innumerable resources for learning Linux and how it works, and many people, including myself, who would be happy to help. (Side note: people who get extremely good at things, including Linux and Piano, or anything else, tend to naturally develop superiority complexes. This applies to literally everything.)I'm not "automatically" assuming anything. I am simply trying to help, so there's no need to explode at me.P.S.: Windows has far more undocumented commands than Linux does, I think.

thoughts on the lore of great toy robbery

Hi all,Let's have a bit of fun. Has anyone considered anything regarding this version of Santa and the workshop? Is this Santa, really the one who delivers toys?Of course we all know that the explanation is, this is a game and Santa will be absolutely fine on Christmas Eve and come round all the houses, but minds do get curious, including mine. After playing the game for quite some time, my mind's started to get a bit creative, and as a bit of a fan of Christmas myself, I'm actually starting to think, it's not our Santa. What Mcnaughterson has found is a... sort of illusion, but not. It's a workshop, yes, but it's not the active one where the toys are being made for this year's, and all years', Christmas. It's definitely magical. Liam's already mentioned that Mcnaughterson gets warped from grid to grid when twisted Santa appears. Time slows down each time he's about to be squished, bonked, or even as Santa's about to appear. Outside, we've got some groups of elves who've ran in terror, but surely Santa would have told them about naughty children? I have not thought if the workshop is one of Santa's, or something else. What if, indeed, the ho ho hoing, Santa we all know and love can still deliver toys. I don't exactly know what this ha ha ha Santa could be, but something's telling me there's reason to believe it's not *the* Santa. If the real Santa still exists, what do you think could happen to Mcnaughterson after this little adventure? I still think the character should get something from Santa, of course Santa wouldn't want other children attacking Christmas, but I don't know if the real Santa would be violent against a child either. Surely, he'd notice Bobby's bravery at the very least, and I think that would be something he'd commend. To me, I wouldn't be surprised if Mcnaughtyson returns home, having blown up that workshop, he would have learned a lesson along the way though. That Santa he encountered could be a bit terrifying to him even though he succeeded. That Santa has been designed to be twisted, of course. I don't know if the tgtr workshop Santa is something designed by the real Santa, or if something else could have happened. The real Santa would of course take notice either way.Let's have a bit of fun. What are people's thoughts on this version of the workshop, is it the real thing that Mcnaughterson has found?

Re: Post 24. I never said anything about other people and their experience with Linux, or how important Linux is. I was merely expressing my personal experience and opinion of Linux (and thereby agreeing with Simba). I don't really give a damn, therefore, its impact on other people, and I don't want to reference the freaking manuals every time I need to remind myself how to move a file. I don't think anything in my message said I don't understand why it's popular, or that I wish it wasn't... I just said I don't like it. Neither I or Simba were stating anything but our own personal views, so your suggestion for us to either read the manuals or take a look at how important Linux actually is holds no relevance. If you're instead saying that if tons of people have figured it out and are using Linux, then why aren't I and Simba, then my answer will be that a contributing reason is that I also never wanted to become someone with a superiority complex like some Linux users have a tendency towards. Are you automatically assuming that simply because there are a good number of people who can play piano, everyone should be able to? Are you saying that just because a lot of people can drive a car, everyone should be driving a car?Kai

@20-21, you should ask yourself then why Linux powers the entire world (and even the ISS). It becomes cmprehensible if yuor willing to try it and learn what each command does (you have manual and info pages, you know).@19, no, its not. Tails is not designed for that. Go research it and you'll know why.
