I think some of you are confused in thinking he means what do you feel you personally live for - that explains your will to keep going or whatever, but not why the human race was just plopped here.As for me though? Re: Programming an incremental audio game

@2, Python doesn't quite power "quantum computers". What "powers" those is quantum mechanics. Python simply is one way of "emulating" them, though its not the method I'd use. I'd also be surprised if its in cars... I'd think that with safety-critical systems you'd see Ada or Rust being used, not Python, given Pythons huge overhead. Its also not in aircraft (or even spacecraft), but those are highly specialized domains where very few languages can fit. Rust could definitly run in there, though Ada is definitely the winner and has been for a while now. And, of course, you can't do systems programming with Python. (You could "theoretically" make an OS in Python, but you'd need to write an entire kernel-based runtime for it, which is just a waste of time.)As for answering the question... yep you can. You don't even need to use Lucia. You can use just a console, or an HTTP server, or anything else, depending on the game you want to make. An "idle" game is nothing more than a specialized version of asynchronous or parallel programming. I'd think that you'd use asynchronous systems though, since parallel programming just brings in overkill for something like that.

One way we can increase overall accessibility is to aid the W3C in revising them to be more "apt" for disabled persons. I'd say "make it a legal requirement" if I knew it would do anything, but I doubt legalizing it would do anything useful for us.

Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

2020-01-25 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : khomus via Audiogames-reflector

Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

Get ready for a super dumb story! My username is a misspelling of a Tuvan word. Tuva is part of the Russian Federation, right next to Mongolia in Southern Siberia. Known for khoomei (throat singing), among other things, it was briefly a republic in the early 1900s. The Tuvan word khomus means what in English gets called a Jew's harp, for some reason, or sometimes a trump, it's a drumbel in Pennsylvania dutch. If you tell me your language if you don't speak English, I can probably tell you what it is in your language, since there's a huge collection of names for it. The suffix -tu is the part that's misspelled, I think it should be -chu, so khomuschu, which means somebody who plays the khomus. In grade school I went out for band and we had to pick three instruments. They stuck me with trumpet, not one of my choices, and I got really bored with trumpet and band. I didn't do anything with music for a while. Then I decided to go get a drumbel. Nobody knew how to play it so I basically ended up making sounds with it. When I found out about Tuvan music, that was the first place I really heard it used as an instrument to play tunes. That really boosted my playing, and it's probably the instrument I'm best at, though I play lots of stuff from around the world, because I listen to a lot of music from around the world. I hear cool sounds, and I want to make them. But khomus was my first real instrument, so there you go, that's what it means. I've called it khomus for so long it's hard to remember the English word. I'm trying to change to drumbel, because I'm trying to learn Deitsch (Pennsylvania Dutch), a language both sets of my grandparents spoke, but sadly didn't pass on. But it's hard because I've been calling it a khomus, or the language-specific name if it's from another place, for ages now. Here's me and a friend jamming, he's doing guitar, I'm doing khomus. Fair warning, I might curse in this one, I honestly don't remember.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfjGu18BwdI

I can't code a line of this stuff to save my life, but if there's anything us forimites can do to speed up this process and insure it runs as smoothly as it can, please let us know. I think I can speak for the majority here when I say that we don't want accessibility capitalized upon like that. If things continue on the way they have been, life for blind people could grow tougher as more companies start holding us up like trophies, which is what I'm guessing is happening here.

In a way, there is reaper. However, i'd say that's more like Logic pro x. In edition, for reaper you need Osara, a plug-in that makes reaper accessible to screen readers, both on windows and mac. I personally quite like reaper and it lets me play instruments and make tracks. I also use CMK by masonasons or masonian, witch I've considered purchasing, it's quite nice for that as well. Well aiding in that with reaper, if using the virtual midi keyboard witch isn't very good.

Level 13 single player rpg/resource management game

2020-01-25 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Dark via Audiogames-reflector

Level 13 single player rpg/resource management game

This is a text  based, partly incremental game I've seen kicking around the net for a while, but haven't managed to get far with due to a few access issues. Today however, I tried again and managed to solve at least one of the problems which let me progress a fair ways into the game.Okay, the game is similar to a dark room. You play in a sort of crumbling, possibly post apocalypse urban landscape. As you begin, you can scavenge for metal, which you use to build your first couple of items. You can then setup a trap and a bucket to collect food and water, and make camp. Once your camp is built, other options will become available like gathering population  work for you, however like a dark room, you need to go out and get resources. In particular, you need evidence you can gather from exploring each unexplored room to do research and build other things. The reason I am putting this here rather than in new releases are because of two minorly annoying things in the interface, unlabeled graphics, and mouseovers. All prices and a lot of functions occur via mouseover on bussons, and as we all know those are only semi reliable ( mine worked for a while, then stopped working). You can get around some of these by the fact that buttons become unavailable if you don't have the resources or the like, however unless you know what a given button does, or the reason something is unavailable, playing without mouseovers is difficult. The second problem, and the reason I did not progress far with the game initially, is due to unlabeled graphics. As you begin, you will find a "scavenge" button. Stuff you scavenge goes into your bag, which is all well and good. You can then click on the text saying "bag" just under your stats to access your bag. The problem however, is the actual items in your bag are not labeled, or rather they are not labeled when not holding them. So, you will see columns for equipment such as light, weapon, shirt, pants etc, and then under that "other items" with an unlabeled graphic, and its' that "unlabeled graphic" which is the item your carrying. This is why I got stuck initially, since I made the lantern (the first task in the game), thought I had equipped it, and had not. There is also a map in the game, though how necessary this is I don't know. The object seems to be to fully explore each level and go down, though I didn't make it that far myself. To anyone planning to play, note that while mouseovers here aren't quite as irritating as in kittens game, they are still needed, especially for costs of items etc. Also, as a couple of hints, you only seem to be able to scavenge metal, food and water, you need to make rope in your camp. You can research upgrades by clicking on "upgrades" at the top of the camp screen, which include the ability to make rope, which will get you your first weapon.I do not know at this point how you get rid of the serious leg wound you start with, if indeed you can, indeed this again is why I'm putting this here, since while a lot of the interface is labeled and there are even a few handy headings, I'm not sure what I'm missing. I did look for a way to contact the developer, but again didn't find anything useful in either the changelog or on redit, but perhaps someone with access to either github or redit could mention something, since this could be another good single player rpg if fixed, indeed the inspirations for this one include a dark room, sharks game  and junction gate, which promises well if the accessibility can be fixed.the game can be found here on this linkFor anyone who wants to give it a try.

Re: Disability and Materialism

Hahaha nobody told that to Freedom Scientific apparentlyThe problem is actually that the way we build games forces people to copyright at least some of the accessibility features they implement. While the design strategy may not be copyrighted, the code to actually implement it is, and copyrighting this code means that other people can't use the same code. So what happens in the industry is you get a whole industry of UX accessibility experts who are contracted out when we could, idk, just make an environment where all those things are referenced. Since these are libraries being referenced on your computer and not compiled binaries, we can make that part of the code copyleft while game devs can still distribute their games. That's what Max is trying to do.Also, various big names like MS and Epic are trying to throw their hat into the ring. I think Epic is actually the biggest problem because they're already signing contracts with FS to implement JAWS into UE4. They're very clearly trying to push the accessibility angle as a woke marketing pointAnd yes this is actually how it works I'm not making this shit up its really this dumb

That's how I am really. I am who I am, and I don't care much about pronouns, the way I'm presenting, which is always female because of other unrelated things, or anything like that. I don't see why my gender has to change anything. Sure, if i could, I would pick a different body, but that isn't happening, so I'm learning to live with what I do have.

@49 - I'll have to look into in more detail. I think BS Framework is actually doing something a bit different. Max is literally a set of external libraries, while this appears to be more just a set of tools used to build games. I think it's more like an open source DirectX but focused around game development than anything. The idea is that the fully compiled game would be much smaller because , and I'm not sure how BSF actually compiles things. If its still compiling directly from source it still won't occupy Max's actual niche (although it might be possible to migrate Max later to be compatible with BSF).Idk about QT, I would have to look into it and I've never heard of it. I would have to see what capabilities it has.I've already designed some of the core game library components, its very simple stuff tbh, the graphics/audio are probably the most difficult components and they may end up just being borrowed from other open source libraries. BTW Max's libraries are licensed under LGPL or MIT.It's in C# right now bc of ease of working with Unity and Monogame, but I plan on building out a specification so that it can be migrated to both C++ and Python. The main core design theory behind Max is that 1) its a set of libraries that are referenced, not a compiled binary, 2) the software contracts where the core of the design should be so that the insides can be changed by end users and 3) it can be used as a standalone product or in other engines.Notice how the game engine is designed heavily with moddability in mind; I don't really think any engine on the market offers this environment out of the box, moddability usually has to be built into stuff.@50 - The competition threat is kind of difficult to explain but basically MS and Epic are trying to occupy different regions of the gaming accessibility market by implementing small changes into their engines/machines. The reason why this is a problem is because if they own the copyright they can hide the code and/or control how its used. This takes away blind people from the ability to design their own software.Because of changes in the ADA that will likely happen if gaming accessibility becomes more commonplace, this allows companies like Microsoft and Epic to secure this side of the market using accessibility as leverage. Now, because Max already exists we don't have to worry about the idea being copyrighted because I literally own it, however, Microsoft/Epic will try to do everything to stop it once they realize just how dangerous Max is to securing that piece of the pie. Max uses its open source and modular design to get around a lot of things that are just not possible with a proprietary approach to accessibility and this means they will have to react or they will lose this possible market advantage. Basically, they care more about profits than you and will try to take down anything that will threaten that

i am a working class male on benefits but i identify as a millionaire. the surgery is strait forward but they won't let me have a massive cash injection.in all seriousness though, I think taking such a drastic step at a young age is a huge thing to look at. a friend of mine had gender reassignment surgery but he was in his 30's and had years of counceling before it happened. the sad thing is, she has never really been accepted as herself, or himself ever since and has become somewhat of a recluse. I think things have changed a lot since then and I hope so but don't rush in to things is my advice.

Check out this article, for those who want to learn more and find it hard to believe. There are probably more materials on this too. Found this one by looking up "The scientific logic behind Gender Transitions" when I was trying to understand it. You might get better/different results (with Googles "filter bubble") or you may find similar material that repeats what this article says (and is just as credible).

Re: Any fello transgender people on here?

I linked to an article in one of the topics in the new releases room... it was enlightening for this kind of topic. Like Jayde, I feel perfectly fine and have never questioned my gender. I don't know what its like to be in that kind of situation. All I know is what I read and what my friends tell me. But the article I linked to said, in sum, that part of the key to understanding is the genetic code of the person in question. As an example, in Biology class in high school I was taught that the chromosomes XX and XY determined gender. It was either XX or XY, with no other possible alternatives. For a while Inever questioned it... I never bothered to ask or wonder. And, for a while, I was extremely resistant to the idea of separating "identifiable gender" and "biological gender". I thought... no, believed... that the two were inseparable, that altering them was tampering with what Nature had created. I never considered, for a moment, that nature could make critical errors like that. But its not hard to figure that part out. We know that XX chromosomes are female and XY are male. But we also know that genetics can encounter issues during the "compilation" of the genetic code into proteins. Nature, unlike us Humans, has no way of "handling" these errors gracefully. It can't just go back and fix the error. Why this is so I do not know. So that raises the question... if a female is designated as having two of the same chromosome and males are designated y having an X and a Y chromosome, what if the order is reversed? What if, for some reason, the chromosomes are Y and X? Does the order of the chromosomes even matter or does it just depend on whether the Y chromosome is present? But I digress. I have no answers to these questions. What the article indicated, however, was that, during fertilization, errors can occur that cause "genetic gender assignment" to go wrong. The resultent gender may be either male or female but there is a ripple effect of sorts. When there is an error in the genetic code, it effects everything up the chain. As such, the person knows, instinctively, that there is something horribly, horribly wrong. They are not who they believe themselvs to be... they don't feel right. I really don't know if I'm explaining it right, so instead I'll link you to the article, which explains it much better than I can. Perhaps the OP can enlighten us and confirm this or not. Whatever the answer may be, science has already found one key to this many-keyed lock. We just have to keep on finding diffrent keys to open that door and learn all the answers.Just remember... nothing in the universe is truly static. There is always a contradiction somewhere, an illogical phenomenon out there that shatters our world. We may be resistant, which is good, but if even science indicates that something is different than you believed, there just might be some truth to it.Hope this didn't come off as offensive or strange. Hell, I don't even know if I'm right.

Re: Breed Memorial - New monster breeder simulation game by Morokuma

Sorry just found the key to actually check spellings, it's not ghoul, it's gow, which I've been seeing from the start. In general I admit I'm not sure on how a lot of the unlocks or items work, or  perhaps I'm just playing the wrong way I'm not sure, since the proportion of fusion items I get as compared to the amount of time it takes to get a monster old enough to fuse seems pretty nuts.I sort of assumed that the correct way of doing fusions was raise monster stats as high as possible before fusing, but I'm not %100 sure whether fusion only takes into account their birth stats or not, and other than the unlocks from just playing a while and having one monster die, I'm not sure how to unlock other categories. I did manage to get one monster's stats high enough to win the s cup, but as it was fairly old at that stage I didn't get to the higher level cups above that.Again, any suggestions would be appreciated, since I have some very cool sounding items, such as burning wings, dragon claw and golden seed, as well as a hole bunch of gem types for different monster types, but no idea which ones to use when.

Re: Any fello transgender people on here?

Moderation:ManamonPlayer and Tadej_Grum_2002, I'm going to drop a caution on both of you. This is not a warning. This is not punishment. It's just a friendly reminder to watch your step.Generally speaking, saying stuff like "I just don't understand why you need a physical transformation" and such is a form of microaggression. I'm hoping that those members of our community who are trans weren't upset by this. It's the sort of thing people who are resistant to the idea say in order to gaslight trans people in small ways. Just...don't do it. You don't have to be trans yourself. You don't have to understand how it works. But your opinion in this case doesn't really matter much.I'm a CIS male, and I have no idea how it feels to be transgender or bigender or anything along those lines. My gender doesn't matter to me very much, and I have some traits that people have mostly ascribed to females (for instance, I'm fairly emotionally driven, I'm quite empathetic, I have little interest in fighting or many traditionally male things). Basically, I'm not proud of my maleness, it just sort of...is. Anyway, my point here is not to derail the topic; my point is that I don't get any of this. I can't. It's entirely outside of my experience. I can sort of stretch and assume that it's difficult, but I've never felt like a stranger in my own body, so I don't get how this feels on a gut level, and I know that I never really will. As such, I, personally, can't fathom of a need to take hormones or go through sexual reassignment surgery. But that's for me alone, and nobody else. My ignorance is only ignorance; it is not a judgment. Obviously, you folks feel a great enough need to have done what you're doing, and unlike the two people I highlighted above, that's more than good enough for me. Just because I don't get it doesn't mean there's nothing to get. Just because I don't get it doesn't mean that I have a right to approve or disapprove; I do not. It's your life and your choices; if it's right for you, go for it, and I wish you the best of luck.

This sounds good, I'm gonna check it out!I can think why blind is in the title...  some times it helps to find accessible games, but it being from a known developer with other titles as well makes it unnecessary.I strongly suggest a title change, there are some good ideas here. Also, no need to jump down the developers throat either, if the game is bad just say why you think it is or are we just going to stop the developer? everyone just chill!

Like the last 2 posters have said, all things that have blind in it has to be removed. After so many times a game title uses blind in it makes it boaring, especially to those peoples who is easily offended. Come on everyone, we have to move on. Create a game with an engaging story, good gameplay, including a combat system that is not a clone of a blind legend.

@6 Off topic but I have to point this out. A lot has changed in the few short months since I bought sequence storm. There are now accessible alternatives for many more things. Sounds for opponent's racers that pan relatively, music following where the center of the track is to help with turns, narrations for your standing relative to other racers, a radar to tell you when things are in front of you and lots more. I personally prefer audio cues 2 mode which plays every note one beat before you drive over it. This removes the rhythm rage on steroids aspect another poster referred to and much more closely emulates the default visual experience. I would definitely go give this another try as the developer was and continues to be very active, helpful and open to suggestions on how to make his project accessible.

Re: public record of disciplinary action

We have invoked the community failure clause pursuant to Christian's destructive posts of a few days ago.As of January 25, 2020, Christian is being placed on watch for 180 days. If he receives a warning during this time, he will be banned for a minimum of one full year from the date of the warning, severity dependent upon the infraction.

Re: I ruened liams live stream and I'm proud of it.

Moderation:We have deliberated over this for several days, and we did not come up with a unanimous decision, but the results of our deliberations run thus:Christian is to be put on watch for six months. If he receives a warning during this time period, he will receive a ban for a minimum of 1 year depending on the severity of his infraction. On the one hand, we do recognize as a team that Christian is only twelve years old and that his maturity has a long way to go before being fully developed. On the other hand, we aren't cool with folks coming in and gloating about how they screwed over community members, particularly given that the user in question is also portraying a nothing-to-lose attitude. To be clear, Christian is not being put on watch solely for his actions concerning Liam's YouTube stream. This, all on its own, falls outside the purview of the staff team, and those of you bothering to read this needn't fear that we're going to start punishing you for stuff you're doing off the forum. But if you do want to engage in bad behaviour off the forum, for the love of crumbcake, please don't come here and attempt to rub it in people's faces. The sheer outrage the forum has shown in response to Christian's actions paints a very clear picture. As a team, it is our hope that Christian can take some time and put things together in such a way that he learns to be more mature and responsible, and less destructive. In the event that this does not happen, we are prepared to act decisively in order to further safeguard our community and its members.

Re: Looking for a mixer

Not necessarily, Reaper's for monitoring if you want to do multiple sends. The knobs on the mixer work for that purpose, though you will want to get someone to help you figure out what they are. If you buy one in person at a Guitar Center or other audio gear store, you can probably talk to someone there and ask them what each knob is. Most people get ost in the terminology if they aren't familiar with what stuff means.

Re: garageband for windows?

I could never really make ends meet with GArageband's ui, its minimal plugin control accessibility, and practically everything else. I was never all that blown away by GArageband's built-in instruments. They're all fastfood stuff. Reaper, plus Native Instruments Komplete keyboard, xpand2 or Korg Tritan colection, Sonivox Film Score Companion, and an Eastwest Composer Cloud subscription, an Asio driver, and a few good reverbs, compressors and EQ's/exciters from Waves and you've got a pretty good setup that can outdo Garageband. You are going to want a core i7 or greater plus you absolutely do not want to be dealing with this if you have 8gb of ram or below.

Re: For what to live?

My, you do enjoy putting all sorts of restrictions on things, don't you? Why, for instance, should I have a purpose? I'm an animist and a Daoist. So I'm kind of against purpose, as some sort of end in itself."Hui Tzu said to Chuang Tzu, "I have a big tree of the kind men call shu. Its trunk is too gnarled and bumpy to apply a measuring line to, its branches too bent and twisty to match up to a compass or square. You could stand it by the road and no carpenter would look at it twice. Your words, too, are big and useless, and so everyone alike spurns them!"Chuang Tzu said, "Maybe you've never seen a wildcat or a weasel. It crouches down and hides, watching for something to come along. It leaps and races east and west, not hesitating to go high or low‑until it falls into the trap and dies in the net. Then again there's the yak, big as a cloud covering the sky. It certainly knows how to be big, though it doesn't know how to catch rats. Now You have this big tree and you're distressed because it's useless. Why don't you plant it in Not‑Even‑Anything Village, or the field of Broad‑and‑Boundless, relax and do nothing by its side, or lie down for a free and easy sleep under it? Axes will never shorten its life, nothing can ever harm it. If there's no use for it, how can it come to grief or pain?"" - Zhuangzi (Chuang-Tsu), Ch. 1, Tr. Burton Watson"11 1. Thirty spokes unite in one hub; 2. It is precisely where there is nothing, that we find the usefulness of the wheel. 3. We fire clay and make vessels; 4. It is precisely where there's no substance, that we find the usefulness of clay pots. 5. We chisel out doors and windows; 6. It is precisely in these empty spaces, that we find the usefulness of the room. 7. Therefore, we regard having something as beneficial; 8. But having nothing as useful."  Dao De Jing, Ch. 11, Tr. Robert HenricksNow you will tell me that I haven't answered your question. But your question seems, if you'll pardon me, fairly muddy. You ask for something like a purpose, but then say, for example, that one can't live for their spouse. Why? If that is one's primary purpose, then surely that is their purpose. Similarly, you say that no one can answer that they wish to live to gain more experiences. But again, why? You seem to imply that there is no goal here, but if I say I want to live to learn, must I not gain new experiences to do so? Let's look at Zhuangzi again, and see what he has to say."Now let me ask you some questions. If a man sleeps in a damp place, his back aches and he ends up half paralyzed, but is this true of a loach? If he lives in a tree, he is terrified and shakes with fright, but is this true of amonkey? Of these three creatures, then, which one knows the proper place to live? Men eat the flesh of grass‑fed and grain-fed animals, deer eat grass, centipedes find snakes tasty, and hawks and falcons relish mice. Of these four, which knows how food ought to taste? Monkeys pair with monkeys, deer go out with deer, and fish play around with fish. Men claim that Mao‑ch'iang and Lady Li were beautiful, but if fish saw them they would dive to the bottom of the stream, if birds saw them they would fly away, and if deer saw them they would break into a run. Of these four, which knows how to fix the standard of beauty for the world?"  Zhuangzi, Ch. 2Who are you to tell me that my wanting to get drunk is wrong? That's the equivalent of your no seeking pleasure, after all. If today my purpose is to get drunk, it's not but let's say it is, and tomorrow my purpose is to play music, and the next day to make food, and over all is loving my wife, who are you to say me nay? Why are you trying to tell fish where to live, and deer what they should consider beautiful?

Re: Disability and Materialism

Daigonight, I'm a bit confused on a couple things.First off, about Microsoft and Epic feeling threatened. Suppose they did find out about this project and try to take legal action. I believe something similar may have happened between FS and NVAccess, and if it hasn't it very well could have. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't FS take NVAccess to court? If they did, it didn't work, and if they tried now it still wouldn't work. This is because of the nature of NVDA. Yes, FS probably could shut down NVAccess if they wanted to. The problem is, someone could just bring NVDA back up again. You cannot silence open-sourced software, no matter what you try. Therefore, what threat could Microsoft/Epic pose to this project?I'd also like to ask, what could happen if we aren't quick enough to come up with accessibility solutions before the corporation's do? I know it can't be anything good, but I don't really know the full extent to which this could affect us. Would you mind elaborating on that a little bit, or linking me to examples of the ways this could cause problems?

Re: How to use the Microsoft store

Hi,I can't speak for Windows 10, but on Xbox, here's what I know. There's a store tab, on the very right of your dashboard, once you are signed into your account. From here, you will be able to browse in various areas.I usually jump passed the first part, which is sales, and keep going down until I find, browse games, but instead of clicking that, I go right once to new games. Also, above browse games, is an actions bar with stuff like search, which can be useful. When going into new games, you'll get stuff in rows of 8, so you'll see 8 tems from elft to right, go down to get to the next row. If you go down from the rightmost option, you'll be on the next row, right most option of that one, so you'll have to move back to the left to browse the row. When you press A, on a game you'll be taken to the store page which might take a little while to load, a few seconds. The first option is usually buy.At this point, I'd recommend pressing the xbox button twice, to go into narrator mode, going up once, it shold show you the price as you keep going up. When you're ready, double tap the xbox button to enter controller mode and select buy. The screen can sometimes be a little jumbled though. Sometimes, you do lose your place. It takes a bit of practice.Clicking buy, you get to the purchase screen, and from there you just click buy.I'd actually recommend setting up PayPal through the Microsoft store on your PC first, so, on the web. You'd go to xbox dot com, search for the game you want, sign into your account and you'd go from there. When I purchased my xbox, I also purchased my first game on the website so I'd have something to download to it when it arrived, and at that point, I could just buy stuff from the store on the console as it had my PayPal info ready to go.I'm sorry I can't really be of more help or go into much more detail, accept my other recommendation is if you go to the store game list, press menu, and turn off the autoplay option in settings, you might have an easier time because when you click a game by default, it plays it's trailer straight away unless you turn this option off, good news is you just turn it off once and it's done for the next while.
