Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

Minor update released yesterday: The preset 020 "Positive" is one octave lower, according to the original softsynth. Oh, and in case someone didn't notice, the snare of the standard kit ("GM Kit", preset 128:000, key D in octave 4) is the snare used in Sonic the hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, the clap and even other drums were used in that game (clap is D# in octave 4). A great discovery. Of course these drum samples come from a KORG synth but I don't know for sure. Also, FPD98 has 2 folders with FPV tone waveforms, this SoundFonts is based in the waveforms that comes in the PCM97 folder. Old versions of this softsynth (called "Frostforest PCM Driver", or FPD95) has some different tone waveforms, they are still present in FPD98, they can be found in the PCM95 folder. I wonder if I should make a SoundFont of those too (I'm not quite sure, but it includes a single waveform for each preset) since I don't know how the tone waveforms are set (in terms of sample settings such as custom envelopes or even vibrato) in FPD95, or FPD for PC-98 computers, I'd have to do it by speculation.

Re: Does Humans Vs. Robots still exist?

@rwbeardjrAlthough what you said about topics ending the same way all the time is true enough, the creators do sort of get what they want when some selfish people such as Fred get it, then share it to their friends, etc etc and boom. they have a playerbase. That, in turn encourages such cloners to keep going and others get encouraged from the activities of these clones and their cloners and yeah. there you have a big chain. To a big part of this community:First, please, for the sake of everything that walks, talks, explodes, exists, dies, gets coverred in cheese when i drop my pizza box on them because i was half asleep, do, look, up, the meaning, of, the, word, "clone"And if you do? well good job! you have successfully completed step 1 of "i shall not bash every single online audiogame fps out there!"Step 2?Come with factual evidence. I witneces. At least something to back up your claims. Don't just do it for the sake of it or to cause drama, and others don't just follow along because you can. As they say, dogs hunt in packs, an act of cowardice. A lion however, hunts alone. It is incredibly selfish and self centered and just plain evil imo, to the creators, community and increases toxicity. May be one reason of the devs starting to avoid this forum more and more instead of what we wanted which was the other way around. You talk about sighted devs not paying attention to our community. How, may i ask are they going to do that even if there was a slight chance of that with this atitude? This atitude that makes even professional audiogame devs, those who enjoy doing this, leave it and get discouraged?

Re: Circus masters revenge, new iOS audio defence type shooter game

hello The only e-mail that i have, is the one i registered to this form with, and i forget the info to it as i only used it for registering things that didn't let me make others, but i only use them pretty much as dump e-mails, so i'm goignt o put a suggestion here, well, a few actually. First, can we please, please, stop using microsoft david in the menus. It lags a lot this way, and i feel like having menu's that show up on screen and useing voice over or if this is on android as well talk back might be better then self voiced menus. Also, the targeting system, oh god the targetting system. Its hard to tell when things are behind you, from in front of you, and especilaly when playing on bluetooth headphones (some people don't hae adaphters for there wired headphones) the little tracking beacon, is not very useful in my opinion. I'm saying don't keep things in front, but maybe more of an instant vibration or something that isn't exactly audio based, but still noticeable. Also, is the issue where if you completed levels, it said you got ticket or tokens or whatever you get for completing levels, then you go to the shop and you have absolutely nothing? was that fixed, or are you still making us pay for those types of things. Because of the issues i stated above needing to be fixed, i havent' kept up with the game much so I don't know.

Re: Code 7 - Episodes 2 & 3 Out Now

@Nick Since you mention you bought the Season Pass, I assume you'd already purchased EP 1 separately? Because if you didn't and only had EP 0 (the demo), you should've grabbed the Full Season Bundle instead, which has both EP 1 and the Season Pass in it. Fortunately, you can buy EP 1 separately if you messed up, you just won't get the usual 15 % bundle discount. As for the speech problem, I'm assuming it worked just fine before? And with jingle, I assume you mean the beep that plays after pressing ctrl+v to confirm that it worked? Odd.It could just be a case of the game loading longer than usual, perhaps? Try looking at your text to speech settings and changing them around a bit to see if that helps. If you're on Windows 10, maybe take a look at the tts settings in the 32 bit control panel (which you can find at C:\Windows\System32\control.exe). If those two don't work, then uninstalling and reinstalling might somehow fix things.I'll ask around and see if I can get any other tips.

Re: rythm game bpm

Ah, might want to make your usage a bit clearer, I kinda got the idea you were trying to make a rhythm game. Anyway, I don't think there's a site which tells you decimal bpm for a bunch of songs. I haven't looked, but regardless I'd recommend checking it yourself instead of blindly plugging numbers in from a web site. Those numbers are useful but anything could cause them to be wrong so you should confirm they're accurate before settling on them. Not to mention if you check against a metronome yourself, you'll know more about how tight the timing will be in the game. What I normally do when checking bpm is load the file into Reaper, trim the file so that the first beat is on the exact start of the project, and then keep changing the project tempo until the metronome lines up closely to the song. Iirc there's a project/item setting you'll have to change or else it'll try to time stretch the audio to match the tempo changes, , but we don't want that here. I'll look that setting up if you need it. Once you're close to the right tempo, go toward the end of the song and see how the metronome sounds, and perform further tempo adjustments if necessary. When you're done, the ending measures should be as tight as the starting measure. When that's the case, check the entire file to make sure nothing funny is happening in the middle. Assuming it checks out, then whatever tempo you settled on for the project will be the tempo of the track.

Hi Cerulean, just to tell you that I just tried your script on the Mac, and it works properly. It works both the option to use the voice without VoiceOver, and the one that uses VoiceOver itself. However, since it is a command prompt application, I would like to try the latter option in a graphical window.

Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

The intelligence agencies can investigate things because they're ordered to do so. And they can be ordered to do so for political reasons instead of logical ones. It makes political sense for Trump to make folks think he's seriously trying to find out where all this came from, and it makes equal sense to say that there's a possibility it came from China. Anything to deflect the blame from the haphazard response times, the back-and-forth about PPE, the border issues, and half a hundred others. Trump's manning a sinking ship, but what he's doing here is pointing to a spark on the horizon and saying "See? Look over there, guys!", trying to make you forget that you're about to drown. Some of you folks seem to think that just because an intelligence agency is pursuing a lead, that means the lead is valid. Just as one large example, intelligence agencies in the United States have historically been known to enlarge and even fabricate legal and personal cases against so-called communist sympathizers, purely because they identified in some way with communism. Acts suddenly gained a darker luster because of that association, and a lot of time, energy and money was spent on trying as hard as possible to befoul anyone identifying as a leftist.

Well I was setting a long term research project going, and sure enough yes indeed, the in built game voice does read buttons more efficiently than vo does, at least at this point, you can even alter it's speed with the option in settings. I'll try that tomorrow, since as I said, I'm guessing that like crafting kingdom, it'll be more efficient for a while.

Re: Galactic Colonies: Public accessible alpha version available

Okay there do seem to be some weird labelling issues here. In my last mission, I was told a region had crystals, yet when I tried to build a crystal extractor there, I was told there weren't any crystals. similarly, the refresh on timers seems to be a little bit odd, or at least I'm not sure at the moment which timers work whilst the game is running and which don't. I also really hope the bug with vo speaking buttons gets fixed, soon. Btw, has anyone tried the self voicing option? I remember when  Kingdom first came out, there  a major  between using vo and using the  game voice. Speaking of crafting kingdom, I'd be more than happy to pay for a free boosts without watching videos option here, though that being said, you don't have to sit for too long with the videos, and I have been using them to get in game rewards. it's now however 3AM, my Iphone is running out of batteries so methinks tis time to call it a night! I can say though, this is absolutely the space building, procedurally generated colonisation game I've actually been wanting for a long time.

Re: Creating a code free RPG using Sable(video 14), by Ebon Sky Studios

Hi,As everyone knows, the Ebon Sky Studios team has been hard at work preparing Sable for external QA testing. Since we first announced the project, we’ve received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community. We’ve been approached by a number of people wanting to be part of the testing process for Sable. Our original goal was to have a small group of testers work on QA testing Sable; trying to identify bugs and generally trying their absolute best to break the software. We are aware that having a small team of testers would mean that many of you would have to wait for a while before getting to play with Sable for yourselves. However, we appreciate these are extremely difficult and uncertain times for everyone; no matter where you are.As a team, we decided to try and do our part during these unprecedented times to say thank you to all our followers and to lend a hand during the Covid19 pandemic. Bearing all of this in mind, we still intend to gather an elite team of 5 QA testers, but we will now change our plans and also offer an open QA test version of Sable for everyone to download and play with. The public version may have a few small restrictions (such as an expiration date). However, for anyone interested in being part of the initial QA testing phase, you will have access to Sable before everyone else does. In addition, you will have direct contact with the team to forward on your feedback and will get a personal mention in the credits of our first game for volunteering your time. So, going forward, for anyone interested in being part of the initial team of 5 QA testers, we would ask you to apply via email to i...@ebonskystudios.com, with the subject line: "QA tester." In addition, there are some questions that we would like you to answer in your email. These will allow us to hand-pick the people that are best suited for the testing process. Applications must be received no later than 23:59 EST, on Wednesday 22nd April; applications received after this date will not be accepted. We expect an influx of applications, so we regretfully will not be able to reply to everyone. For anyone not selected, you will still be free to download and test the publicly released version. Our hand-picked testers will have priority access to the QA testing version of Sable, giving us a chance to iron out any immediate bugs.Again, the email address for anyone interested in becoming one of our elite testers is i...@ebonskystudios.com. Remember to put "QA tester"in the subject line or your email may be missed. Please remember to include your answers to the following questions:Sable QA Test applicationFull NameEmail Address:In your own words, please describe any previous testing experience you have:In your own words, what is your previous experience playing role-playing games. Okay that was weird, and I don't know if it was a bug or not. I was on the computer parts mission, and explored all the sectors, but couldn't find any crystals anywhere! I then flew into space and checked the other planets, in case you could transport resources from one planet to another, or maybe find something useful out there, but found nothing. I then go back to the planet, to find all my buildings, however suddenly the exploration count has changed and hurrah! a nice patch of crystals! Either this is a bug, or I missed something about exploration works, though on the plus side my march through the galaxy can continue .

This is the government. Politicians and other agencies tend to spend money on pointless stuff all the time. That's actually by design. Great for preventing hostile powers from quickly taking over a country, crap for dealing with an emergency.    Anyway, I think this entire pandemic is enlightneing on highlighting the various vulnerabilities country governments have in an entirely disruptive event. Also, which countries would get ruined in a deadlier pandemic. Considering how freaking suicidal Americans have been just for the social media memes, I'm pretty sure a more infectious virus with a higher death rate would be quite destructive to this country with the current response. Compare this to other countries with a far more comprehensive pandemic response plan. Some countries sitll have their internal economies and socail life chugging like normal, with a majority of Covid cases isolated and treated. Whether that be an extensive online tracking program, investigative departments using farensic tactics to track down people that may of been infected by a covid victim for isolation and early treatment, etc.     ...In short, a lot of countries are making The U.S look bad. I know there's talk that this may of been some man made attack, but that's thinking too small. I think what's more worrying that groups might be observing the weaknesses of countries in responding to a biological attack. Hitting some places like South korea and the like would probably be useless, but considering the slow governmental and social response to a normal disease in the U.S... right. Screw nukes. let's start the bioweapons division up again. We're already confused why the current president did not initiate the pandemic response plans developed during the bush Administration. Especially since he claims he knew about the virus earlier than most other countries, you think you'd bust out the plans at that time to prepare as early as some other nations.

Re: Galactic Colonies: Public accessible alpha version available

Well the access version is now out on Ios, though I suspect it's not the new Beta Slj mentioned in the first post. There are one or two miner bugs, EG the close button doesn't work on the connection screen if you don't want to connenct something, and occasionally messages on buttons don't read correctly, but in general the game is just as good as I thought it was, and I've already bought some upgrade gear. Only a couple of things, which might or might not be fixed in the next version. First, as Simba said earlier, at the moment there is no way to see if an industrial building is affecting your colony. Oh, you can build farms and such on either side, but above or below is more of a problem. It'd be really nice if there was a confirmation dialogue here. In the same way, on the second planet, I made the mistake of building the commercial complex too far from the living quarters (well  guess it was too far), and there was no indication of such. Hope this gets looked at somewhere, since at the moment I am not sure where a building needs to be in order for you to connect with it, and since as far as I know there is no way to demolish a building if you build something in the wrong place (well it makes sense for the game's challenge), that might be a problem. I also notice there is a hell of a lot to unllock in the game, which is awesome, indeed I'm loving all the different building types and such, I'm already level 3 and on the first planet of sector 2, and am loving the game, indeed I've already bought a couple of upgrade packs, just to support the developer. Now the only hard part will be not playing all night .

Re: Would This Concept be Feasible? A Review

Not really an RPG actually. When I'm referring to stats, we're talking about the default movement/hp/abilities a character starts with, and not something that levels up or what not.    team 1 just plays a version of swamp with lessen movement speed, and requiring more accurate aiming, and team 2 quickly sets up traps and mobs ahead of the groups or have it spawn in default points with point values. I've seen some indi games that pull off players vs dungeon master affairs.

Re: Generic windows forms accessibility for generic screen readers

Typically the accessible description attribute is used to provide information that tooltips might provide, for example. The accessible name attribute isn't usually used unless your making edit boxes, tree views and such. When you do use it it should match the label placed above the control in question. You shouldn't have to mess with the accessible role attribute unless NVDA identifies the control as something that its not (which I've never seen happen).

You could argue that all the other source software out there are vehicles for RCE vulnerabilities, since RCE is so common, and its pretty rare for a large program (in LOC) to not have some kind of RCE vulnerability of some kind.

Agree with Jayde.Honestly, I've started to look at cloning in a different way. Do I discourage people from doing it? Of course! However, I will not make any more of those topics, and I understand that if people want to clone, as much as I disagree with it, it's their choice and I can't stop them. And to those who clone and go post on the forum, I encourage you to stop. You're wasting your time talking about cloning here, because the mods are going to shut it down. Again, you can do what you want, and I'm not stopping that. However, understand that trying to discuss clones here always ends the same way. You post it, someone makes a comment that they reported it to the mods, then either Jayde or Liam makes a post that this topic is closed, and the topic is done

Re: rythm game bpm

Yeah, decimal bpm is certainly a thing. Not as common as integer, but some DAWs such as Reaper support it, and I've used it on occasion when measuring the tempo of songs.I'm no game coder, but a friend of mine and I tested this very same thing with BGT, which I think you're using as well, so I'll be focusing on that. We found that using bpm isn't really appropriate with BGT for two reasons:First, sound events, with stock Direct Sound at least, seem to be quantized to 10 ms frames. I don't think it affects performance, it's just a sound limitation we noticed when testing how wildly we could play/modify sounds. Nevertheless it might be a factor, I don't know.Last, but certainly not least, timers aren't designed for musical precision. If you play a perfectly looped drum loop at 60 bpm, and then instruct BGT to play another sound on top of it every 1,000 milliseconds, the two will drift fairly significantly out of sync after a few seconds. But maybe I'm coding it wrong. So if you need actual proof of any of my claims, I can provide it.I'm not saying that rhythm games can't be done though. Obviously Rhythm Rage makes it work. Afaik it isn't BPM-conscious though. To make it work, they're just putting rhythm cues in manually by using milliseconds as ogomez said. I looked at the level designer a while back and noticed that these cues were absolute timestamps i.e. beat 1 goes from 0 to 1000 milliseconds, beat 2 is 1000 to 2000, beat 3 is 2000 to 3000 etc. So if you want something to occur on beat 65, you have to know where beat 65 starts in milliseconds, and put that value in the file. There's no relativity to it, you have to specify the absolute time for all events. This is a good thing because if one cue is slightly off for whatever reason, the rest of the cues won't be thrown off with it, unless of course you place them wrong.Even then this system isn't perfect; I remember when experimenting with my own level, which I never got far with, I had to knock the cues back about 30 ms because the sounds were playing a bit late. Technically speaking it wasn't a huge deal. Musically speaking though, that adjustment improved things a lot.The only time I can see BPM making any sort of difference is if you use it indirectly. You'd still use absolute timestamps like Rhythm Rage does, but you can then incorporate bpm into that with a bpm to ms conversion. Then instead of putting something at position 38762 ms, you could specify that the bpm is 130, and this event falls on beat 34.5 for example, and it would do the math and convert those cues to ms, preferably before the music starts playing. Musically speaking this would make a lot more sense and I dare say it would make it easier to write the cues out once you got the bpm right. I managed to write a bpm to ms calculator while testing the viability of using BPM in BGT games, and it isn't hard. So in that sense, decimal bpm wouldn't be a bad idea, since the more accurate you can start, usually the better the outcome. But I can see all sorts of timing problems getting in the way even with constant tempos, because rounding error. And what if your song changes tempo? That may become messy too. So if you're using BGT, I think the best solution is to babysit the rhythms like Rhythm Rage does. If you're using some other set of tools for game creation though, you might have better luck with BPM. Sequence Storm makes an excellent run with it, but I think that uses a custom sound engine. I don't know of any other games off the top of my head for PC which are musically tight, but I imagine many such games exist.

Re: Warsim, text based randomly generated stratogy

Can't you just jam like 5000 knites into an order, and send them off to fight the demons?Only problem with that is that if you don't have enough, most of them die and I can't figure out how to replenish them fast enough.Vamp king could have something like you have the ability to turn your warriors into Vampires. Also, ability to be turned into a Vampire during the game if you wish to do so.The part demon thing sounds interesting, and the other events.I like the Slave pen idea. I also like the champian duel idea, since as far as I know, Champians are sort of just fluff, unless you plonk them in forts.Speaking of forts, perhaps have events where other kingdoms would atempt to take your stuff, and the forts would send troops to defend them? Would give a reason why there there, after all. Also, mabie have a spasific option for each fort, like the one in the south helps with Demons, ETC.Stuff like that.

Re: Would This Concept be Feasible? A Review

Hmmm.If you mean making a game exactly like this probably not. However the concept you are talking about is a complex rpg type with rts put in.Something like soundrts is or close to.Could we make it, probably, but it would be different, sort of a rpg/ monster master managment with resources and the like. Now with the ai that is the tricky bit.Anyone can make a simple rpg, it gets harder with random events etc.Take soundrts its almost like this but resources are fixed and the ai is simple.

Re: News from Freedom Scientific

As a 10 year Window-Eyes user, I thought it was great in the sense that you didn't have to purchase an aditional licence and so on and so forth. Plus, for a while it was ahead of its time and it could easally had become very popular and the guys who develop it now regret not getting a good share of the market and it turns out nobody from GW Micro had anything to do with the takeover of Window-Eyes by VFO. It was actually taught in a college by a blind guy named Robert Donald in Scotland. Below, is A message on the GW Micro list about his passing and the bio of the guy.On 21/05/2011 13:33, John Duff wrote:Dear List,I am sorry to say that one of the list members Robert Donald passed awayin the early hours of this morning. He was a Lecturer atMotherwell College and in his time there taught hundreds of visuallyimpaired the intricacies of Window-eyes. He fought long and hard forblind people’s access to technology through screen reading programs likewindow-eyes.I was one of those students he taught and his memory will live with mefor a long time. There is so much more I could say about the guy but asimple thanks to him for what he had achieved and the help he gave toothers is amazing.Kindest Regards, JohnHere is Roberts bio.Robert Donald Biography. There are blind and Visually Impaired people, who take on huge challenges, who either give up or admit defeat. Robert did neither. He was born in a small town in the West of Scotland called Coatbridge. At the time it was a heavily industrialised area with Coal mines, Steel works and their associated businesses.Robert followed in the footsteps of his father and went from school to become an apprentice in an Engineering company. In his early Twenties he was diagnosed with Diabetes type 1. A very debilitating medical condition for anyone to deal with. Robert was by that time married with two children. As his condition deteriorated his sight began to fail. Society at that time had very little to offer blind people with the means of employment. Employment was itself diminishing in the area, as Heavy industrial companies closed and moved out of the district.Robert decided to learn Braille by himself. At that time there were no screen reading programs and the only talking computer was a bib model. He then applied to Glasgow University for a Mathematics Degree course, which he subsequently passed with honours. Once again jobs for blind people in this field were impossible to secure. He then returned to College to further his academic qualifications. The route he took was through Motherwell College. In 1995 a Company called GWMicro produced a screen reader for blind people. There were other screen readers on the market but Robert found this program to his liking. He learned all he could about Window-eyes and was aware at the time that this new world of computing and the internet was about to change the lives of the entire world. For the first time he felt blind people could participate in this new technology and change their lives forever. When his studying was completed he approached Motherwell College board of trustees with an ambitious plan for blind people. He advocated that a classroom be set up Where Visually Impaired and blind people could be trained on a special program called Window-eyes. This program assisted him immensely with his studies at Motherwell College. He never gave up his dream and continually persuaded Lecturer’s and Management in the College that this would ensure Visually impaired and blind people, could progress from Motherwell College to Higher Education and then into the workplace. After several years of dedicating his time to prove his dream was a worthwhile project. His dream did come true.In 1992, a classroom was dedicated to exactly what Robert Donald had dreamed of. A place where ordinary blind and Visually Impaired people could learn about the world of computing, the world of Microsoft Office and an opportunity to put their skills to move upwards into Higher Education. Their World was their Oyster. With this self-arming knowledge, what was a normal life, having to depend on people to read them Daily Newspaper’s, Books and Letter’s was now in their own hands. With this revolutionary technology, they could do all these things and more. They were not alone in the world. Every aspect of the World Wide Web was at their fingertips with this new innovative screen reading program called Window-eyes. Robert taught hundreds of Student’s in the West of Scotland all about Window-eyes, the Internet, and Microsoft Office and about the power of Window-eyes itself. His dedication and strength of commitment was second to none. He continually ensured that his student’s had the latest computer’s, the latest
