there are in theory some accessible cash registers, they are sold by a specialty site though and as I recall they were over $100 a piece. They were also old, like from the 90's type old. Modern cash registers are a lot more advanced. Still, what do you do if someone hands you a check? How do you handle it if someone tries to pass off fake bills? What if someone hands you all dollars and tries to pass them off as 20's?

Re: any main streem games i can play for free.

Episode 0 of Code 7 is free. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, but it's not that bad. It can stand on its own as a short story game. Given that death is the main theme of that one I probably shouldn't be recommending it to you, but heck, I know I would've still played it at your age, and been fine.Warsim has a demo mode. It is outdated and a large chunk of the paid game's features aren't there, but it's something. And if you decide you like it, it is fairly cheap, so you just might be able to convince your parents (or someone else) to buy it.Your best bet is to play these and other demos until the spring sale on Steam (assuming you are able to use Steam). They'll be cheaper then, and so people will be more generous. Who knows, if you like something, I might even decide to chip in myself. But no promises!

Re: How much do you like braille,

I actually need to go to the library again sometime, because the feeling of holding a book in your hands is something that can't be replaced, not even by a braille display, and I'm starting to miss it.I don't use braille for everything, that's for sure. Generally, TTS is enough to get me by, and faster. But I've found it much more efficient for studying; the information stays in my head better. Math without braille is very difficult. And having a braille display around means that I can actually participate when the teacher asks for exercise examples to be read out, and while that might seem silly and tiny for you, it makes me feel like more a part of the class.And, as I mentioned above, books. I do read those with TTS sometimes, not gonna lie. But when I want to really take my time with one, properly enjoy it, it's time for braille. And as @swigjr23 said, it is much easier to learn spelling that way. Hell, I frequently have a dictionary open alongside the book to look up words I'm unfamiliar with; if I was reading by TTS or listening to an audiobook, I likely wouldn't even notice those words.

2021-01-27 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : zakc93 via Audiogames-reflector

Re: How do you guys dispense water?

I googled it, camlorn seems to be right. The following is pasted from wikipedia:The choice of supply voltage is due more to historical reasons than optimization of the electric power distribution system—once a voltage is in use and equipment using this voltage is widespread, changing voltage is a drastic and expensive measure. A 230 V distribution system will use less conductor material than a 120 V system to deliver a given amount of power because the current, and consequently the resistive loss, is lower. While large heating appliances can use smaller conductors at 230 V for the same output rating, few household appliances use anything like the full capacity of the outlet to which they are connected. Minimum wire size for hand-held or portable equipment is usually restricted by the mechanical strength of the conductors. Electrical appliances are used extensively in homes in both 230 V and 120 V system countries. National electrical codes prescribe wiring methods intended to minimize the risk of electric shock and fire. Many areas, such as the US, which use (nominally) 120 V, make use of three-wire, split-phase 240 V systems to supply large appliances.

Re: A few question about C.

@18, first, pointers are indeed passed around like that to prevent you from passing data by-value, which prevents unnecessary copies of data. A pointer will always be the same no matter where you send it so long as its not modified.Second, no. What your doing with that code is allocating data on the stack. Stack allocations do not need to be freed. You only free memory that you allocate with malloc/calloc. You never, ever call free on stack-allocated memory because that memory is not alocated by the memory allocator but by the compiler. Calling free on stack-allocated memory (or memory allocated by a different memory allocator) is undefined behavior.To understand how this works, you have to understand the stack and the heap. The stack is where your variables are allocated. For example, if you declare a variable of type uint64_t, 8 bytes are allocated on the stack. When that function returns, those 8 bytes are freed automatically -- you don't need to take care of that. On the other hand, the heap is where your deliberately allocated memory is allocated. Calling malloc/calloc allocates heap memory. The heap is usually a lot larger than the stack, so that's where the majority of your allocations will go. The problem is that the compiler isn't going to know when you allocate heap memory, so you have to deliberately indicate that the memory should be freed by calling free on that allocated memory.Now, pointers. A pointer can point to either stack or heap memory. Performing arithmetic operations on a pointer modifies the address of the pointer, not the data that the pointer points to; to do that you have to dereference the pointer by using * before its name. Which leads me beautifully into the issue of this code: this code has no idea how large your string is. Typically in C, a separate argument is added to the function to determine the size of arrays/strings. You could use strlen to calculate it for you as well, but the point is that your code doesn't do this. This opens up a buffer overflow vulnerability in your code. The line that increases the pointer of str by six bytes could easily start reading from adjacent memory that your code doesn't own if your string happens to be less than eight bytes in size (providing an extra byte for NULL). The same problem occurs with that functions use of sprintf. Always use snprintf over sprintf; same goes for strncpy over strcpy and strncat over strcat. Basically, the rule is: for string functions, use the strn* versions instead of the str* versions at all times. (Also, this isn't the way you read hex digits; this could easily be altered to use strtol/strtoll or strtoul/strtoull, which is a lot safer than this code and does not suffer from its problems.)I know I've told you a lot more than you asked for, but I hope I've helped you too. I won't provide code -- I'll leave that for you to figure out on your own.

Stack allocations do not need to be freed. You only free memory that you allocate with malloc/calloc. @12Thank you so much for your kind words. I will say that I have a roadmap for upcoming releases, and that aquatic creatures are a major part of it. This includes dolphins, gulls, and whales. Ideally weather and time of day effects as well. This will add to the variety of the sounds you hear while boating around. They will sound just as synthesized as everything else. Ideally I'd like to create an entity system so each individual creature has its own unique behavior.To answer your question about a spoiler, for now you may want to check this reply I made to friend asking the same thing. Hope this helps!

He smoked siggerettes a lot. and he didn't watch his health. as for fried foods, i'm trying to stay away from deep fried stuff. as for things that are breaded, I stay away from that too. People might look at me as over weight, but i'm really not. yesterday I was dancing and I was able to  bend my lower body toards the flor and get back up again. I can also walk a few miles without my feet not hurting. When I was working as a camp counciler, my feet hurt a lot.  when I walked  I thought I had bad shoes, but it was my wait that was giving me issues. yeah they hurt a  little, but that's expected. My girl friend use to be friends with this girl who didn't give a crap  about what she ate. she was the only child so she ate what she wanted. for example, big ass slices of cakes. and lots of breaded chicken. Yeah, she has  lots of trouble walking long miles.

Re: What to read after reading Harry Potter and Percy Jackson?

@Chris, can't believe I forgot about philip Pulman if your talking very good Ya stuff. have you also checked out garth nicks keys to the kingdom series? Actually if your looking for Hp similar books those might also be a good plan, about a boy with asthma who has to enter other worlds to battle their guardians, taking into account most of reality along the way. Unlike pulman, the enforced atheism is both a bit too blatant, and yet not quite as in your face, as in he freely tells you there is no god, no afterlife and the semi immortals who run the universe do it more because they're beureaucratic cogs in a machine and don't really care about anything outside it, than because God and religion are actually malicious, albeit I'd love to point out to pullman that his definition of "dust", is pretty close to what a lot of people would regard as divine anyway, even if he has actual Yahweh as a bit of a git . Iron druid is still one I need to get to, albeit I'll probably finish Rachel aaron's nice dragons series before I do more urban fantasy. @Camlorn, I wouldn't have counted Gaiman as similar  Rowling or Riorden, which is why I didn't mention him. That being said, I loved Neverwhere whe I was 15 myself, so, mmm, maybe:D. Stardust is a down right gorgious book, albeit a bit overly short and summary form in some of it's later sections. Then again, if you want great romance, Dianna wynn jones does that exceptionally well, mostly because she just lets it develop naturally out of her characters and crazy situations, and doesn't stop the hole plot dead because of it.

Re: how much does blindness effect employment

20, That is not true. I know of a blind guy who worked for the national park service, and I know several who have worked for the U.S. federal government.16, in order to get SSDI, you need five years work experience. Even then, I just managed to get on it and my check is under $300. Half of which they are trying to take for medical insurance even though I'm on my wife's plan and told them no multiple times. On SSI you can't have more than $2000 in assets, so it doesn't pay to get off of it or save if you are not going to make more than that.I do not want a job in the blind sector because I feel like once you're stuck working for a group who only hires blind people or is geared toward the blind, you are more or less stuck there. The best work is probably freelance, but it takes a lot of dedication and marketing skills, the latter of which I seriously lack, to get enough exposure. Even with my job now, I don't wake up in the morning excited to go to work. I did when I was student teaching. I enjoy my job sometimes, but I come home aching if it is a long day. Then there are the days where my coworkers schedule me clients last minute, which I absolutely loathe, or the client is a no-call, no-sho, which means I paid round-trip Uber faires for nothing, or it's a grupon which means I get paid $5 for two hours of work.Actually, ever since the pandemic started, I have seriously been entertaining the idea of professionally running D campaigns. I have been being a dm so much already, I figured it would be doable, and more people have time on their hands. I've spent the last six months or so playtesting several groups and checking out different tools that I just need to get over a fear of success and start doing it.

Re: A few question about C.

Okay, I'm back again, just to see if I have what pointers are used for exactly correct.So we have this function in a project that I have here, not my function.int read_four_bytes_hex(char *str, FILE *src) {
char byte_str[2];
int i;
int c;
str += 6;
for (i = 0; i < 4; i++) {
c = getc(src);
if (c == EOF) {
return -1;
}
sprintf(byte_str, "%002x ", c);
strncpy(str, byte_str, 2);
str -= 2;
}
return 0;
}And it's used like the following, with temp being a char* of 9 bytes, and fp being a FILE type pointer:if (read_four_bytes_hex(temp, fp) != 0) {
fprintf(stderr, "error: the file is not a windows object file.");
return -1;
}So if I understand this correctly, the reason these are pointers is so we don't have to pass that char and FILE around to the function, thus causing a performance decrease, especially because the function is called in multiple places?Another thing I noticed is these pointers are never freed. None of the pointers in the script are, actually. Is that because it simply does some calculations, prints the result, and exits? If I had more code that didn't need these vars, and never did again, would I free them?

I need enough to live independently, and sadly while volunteering or hanging out with friends is awesome, it isn't going to get me the cash I need for that. And if you want to add a family into that picture, well money is that much more necessary.I just hate being called lazy by myself and others because of how difficult and hopeless things are for blind citizens. Of course every sighted person is like, well you need to do something and stop being lazy. Yeah Grandma, it's not that easy. But I'm focused much more on my own words and thoughts. I'm not a lazy person, at least I hope not lol. But being hopeless sadly makes you lazy indirectly.Fortunately I do have a disability state counselor and I'm talking with them a lot to do something, but this comes in phases. I try, then give up. That's been the past 2 years. I was going to college and putting off job search, and then lock down screwed me over. So yeah right now I've been fucked from that and I'm just focusing on employment first then adding back college later.

Re: What to read after reading Harry Potter and Percy Jackson?

American Gods was horrible! I wish I hadn't wasted the time on that book. Maybe it wasn't my cup of tea. I thought it would get better as it progressed, but it really didn't.Gaiman is really interesting otherwise. Check out Coraline. It's very very creepy. It's about a girl who wanders into another world and is trapped by a demon pretending to be her mother. The Ocean at the End of the Lane is pretty good as well, though I'm a little confused by the ending. I haven't tried Stardust as of yet. I also read The Graveyard book about 10 years ago. It wasn't too bad, but Coraline and Ocean were better.You might like Kelley Armstrong. I started with her Darkest Powers and Darkness Rising books which are about a group of kids with supernatural powers who are initially placed in a group home and diagnosed with various disorders. They eventually find out they aren't crazy and have extremely boosted powers. They go on the run and are hunted by a cabal. After that, I checked out her Women of the Otherworld series which was pretty good as well. It's aimed more at adults but gives a much deeper look at her supernatural world. Darkest Powers and Darkness Rising tie into this larger story.Here's one more, but it's definitely aimed at adults. It's the Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance. It's about a young woman who was raised by vampires. She's a clairvoyant and the vampire that raised her used her abilities to make a lot of money. She's also a necromancer and can talk to ghosts. She also gains the ability to time travel. It's essentially about her adventures with ghosts, vampires, mages, demons, and gods. There are lots of sex scenes in these, hence why these might not be for everyone. I started reading these at the age of 12, so I don't know what that says about me. I'd like to think it makes me a more mature person, because I handled it just fine. The series starts to drag around book 6, but I still like it.Okay, one more, and I'm serious this time. If you haven't checked out His Dark Materials, it's worth it in my view. I loved it as a little kid, primarily because of all the worlds. People hate it because it was written by an atheist and is about killing a tyrannical god, but I liked the fantasy elements. Philip Pullman also came out with The Book of Dust series, but based off what I've heard, it probably wouldn't interest me. I don't think it contains the same kind of fantasy elements.

Blind gladiator from audio.it.It's not one of the worlds' greatest games, but it's fun for smacking things, and was a very perfect game to play while my lady was in radio therapy last year since it didn't require too much thought and just had lots of immersive sound effects.

Re: deep fried or air fried

@13 well said, you have a thumbs up from me. Some people are so affraid of death that they forget how to live. They eat only healthy food, they don't drink, they basically fight every urge to feel good, to have some guilty pleasure and for what? They think they have everything in control, that they will live for a hundred years being healthy and the next day they fall of the stairs and break their neck, I've seen it happen. The future is so uncertain, there are so many possibilities that it is futile to live in fear of dying. The harsh truth is that one day everyone will die, there is no escape, there is nowhere to run. Live your life affraid like a mouse hidding in a crack or stand proud and face life, stand tall and do what you like and what makes you happy, this is a choice that everyone must face.As for me, I would better live to 40 and have a happy and fulfilling life than living to 80 and measuring every calory I eat and drink. On my death bed I would rather remember the fun times, the nasty stuff I did while drinking, The women I had the pleasure to mate with, the friendships I made just because I got out for a smoke and had a talk than pondering over why haven't I lived for longer and what other diet should I have tried in order to scratch just a few more months, just an year or two.

YSK that 1/8 of a second (125ms) is beyond the range of what the average human can physically react to. At the low end of that window, you'll want it somewhere near 215ms. This is of course, providing that there is no pattern to to learn that will help them predict the appearance of an enemy. Then it becomes less of a reaction time problem and more of a strategic one.

American Gods was horrible! I wish I hadn't wasted the time on that book. Maybe it wasn't my cup of tea. 2021-01-27 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : leibylucw via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Am I too stupid for programming?

It's less about intelligence and more about persistence and determination. I'm quickly discovering that if you're curious enough of a person, you'll keep pushing to find answers until you get them. If you're a person who doesn't get excited about solving problems or figuring out why something is coded the way it is, chances are, programming is not for you. Just because you aren't picking up on something immediately doesn't mean you're stupid. It just means you haven't gained enough  exposure to it. This is true of anything in life, not just programming. I've seen you come out here and ask questions. I don't know to what frequency you get satisfying answers, but that to me shows you are at least curious enough to act on your confusion or curiosity.Impostor Syndrome is a real thing. I go through it, my friends go through it, everyone goes through it. I'm sure others on this thread have gone and do go through it. We all just need to realize that we are human beings. Not everyone is going to be a Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, or Stephen Hawking. You don't need to solve all of the world's problems to be successful or effect meaningful change in the world.Life is a marathon, not a race. Sure, there are people who know about a subject more than us, learn faster than us, and solve problems more quickly than us, but that doesn't make them better than us. If we just threw away candidates below the 1%, hardly anyone would be employed. I've come to terms with the fact that yes, there are people who are going to have better knack for my field. They will get better grades, have a higher GPA, and even graduate before me. But you know what? That's perfectly fine. I'm doing this for me, not them. Working at my own pace has been the best decision I've made in my life. I thought if I didn't run through this degree in 4 years, I would be a failure. I quickly started burning out with the number of classes I took each semester, dealt with terrible mental health problems, and had tons of existential questions. Once I realized I can move slower, many of these issues subsided. I won't graduate in the same time other students will, and that's a okay with me.Continue to do what you do. Don't let these road blocks stop you from driving forward in your programming career. Being confused is all part of the learning process. How you navigate confusion and lack of understanding is what makes you a better programmer, and just grow generally as a person.

Re: how much does blindness effect employment

2021-01-27 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : leibylucw via Audiogames-reflector

Re: how much does blindness effect employment

I think what's being overlooked is the human experience facet of this discussion. People generally look for ways to be fulfilled. Employment isn't the only way to achieve this, but it's one of the most common. When I talk about blind folks wanting employment, the paycheck is usually thought of or treated as a secondary benefit rather than the sole reason for getting a job in the first place. Humans look for ways to feel complete. Acquiring a job would give them a sense of purpose. It then follows that their sense of purpose is what feeds, houses, and takes care of them. Some folks may be looking for work just as a means to pay bills. That's a regular occurrence, too. What I'm driving at here is that blind people are so deprived of employment opportunities that fulfilling themselves on an emotional, mental, spiritual, (use whichever adjective you please) level is the primary reason they want to work. Perhaps it's just the blind people I've encountered in my own network that feel this way, but their desire to work never came primarily from a place of "I want to get off of SSI and earn my own money." The first thing they talk about is "I just want to work," which to me, roughly translates to, "I'm tired of sitting around doing nothing." Sustaining themselves and not relying on SSI is just another bonus, but it isn't the driving reason (again, in my observations).

Re: how much does blindness effect employment

17, I wasn't aware the situation was  that bad. But personally faced with a situation where I have disability versus a 14 hour job that pays like 2-3 dollars an hour, or even minimum wage, and physically destroys me, I would opt for the disability. I actually saw someone say in a mailing list in Turkey that they were offered a job as a tea packager, and that they would be expected to work from 6 in the morning to 8 PM or so, and that they would be paid minimum wage for that, which is very much a joke of a wage in turkey. If they had chosen to work 8 hours, it would've been half of minimum wage. With an offer like that, I would've told that person to go fuck themselves, and find another slave. But yeah,  as was stated before in this topic, being employed means being extremely exceptional in some way, or overqualified I was in several respects, though I didn't have to do the walk in part.  I think though employer tax credits or insentives will  also dramatically lower blind unemployment. In many respects though, Turkey has appeared to solve the blindness unemployment problem. The government pays a significant  part of wages for disabled workers who are hired by the private sector for about half a year if I remember right.  Also the government offers any blind person a job if they want one. There is an easy personel exam only for disabled applicants that is easier than the regular one, and people who  take it get preferentially placed in the places they indicate based on points, and are hired under a different highering authority in which the normal quotas don't apply. This has resulted in literally everyone I know getting a civil service job, which when combined with the massive income tax exemption and other  subsidies results in a good livable wage for most.  As for my comment on blind people not wanting to sit arround and do nothing, it was mainly directed as a response to post3.

Re: Slay the spire, mod comparrisons?

Ah, thanks for the explanation, amusingly enough, I'd forgotten I already had read the spire installed and was using it anyway, it just shows how long it is since I last played the game .

Re: What is the Weirdest/Funniest AI Generated Text You've Discovered

Hears one of mine.How do you think the titanic actually sank?. people say there was a fire, that made the hull weeker inableing the iceburg to finish it off. yes the iceberg was actually a part of the main battlefront. the iceberg was not the real iceberg but a part of another fight between the titanic and the icebergs. yes the titanic was also destroyed in the second battle. as for the other battles, the fire was supposed to cause the icebergs to sink too. yes they did but the titanic and icebergs weren't at the same level. the icebergs were the ones which sank
