I'm curious, how do people decide what stats to train mons with? Do you generally try to wait and see what sort of attacks they end up with or what they already have and then train based off that?

Aardwolf getting started?

2021-02-05 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : cj89 via Audiogames-reflector

Aardwolf getting started?

So I literally started playing this game for the first time today and have a few questions.Firstly, what's the best client to use? I've just been using the official aard mushclient with screen reader support, but unless I'm looking in the wrong places I can't seem to find any documentation on it's shortcuts or anything etc.I'm a bit confused as to how the stat system works. I get the fundamentals behind it (each class has it's primary stats, some skills use a combination of stats), etc. How am I best to train them though? I'm a vamp/barbarian, so my cheapest stat is str but I know I do also need to worry about con and to a lesser extent, dex.I guess this kinda ties into the first question, is there a definitive soundpack or anything for the game? I'm not one that has to have sounds for my muds, though I imagine in this mud there's times where they'd be useful. Again, it looks like the aard client has some of this too

In no particular order:The Helicopter (I think it is, anyway)? from bk2. The one that breaks the ground around you the longer the fight goes.Probably more of a mini boss than anything, but the dog rounds in Black Ops 4 zombies (especially when they're electrified)various bosses in uoss mud (particularly the ones that zap you down to 1 hp in 1 hit).

Shadow Line appreciation topic

I picked up my SL save a couple days ago after not touching it for like a year. Finally got through the final dungeon and now currently working my way through the post game eps which I'm actually finding a refreshing challenge. It struck me as I was playing just why I love this game though. The biggest thing is probably the somewhat Zelda-esc vibes I get from it. Going through dungeons, discovering treasure chests, learning new abilities etc. While I definitely wish there were things that had been expanded upon (making each character feel possibly a little more unique, combat a little more involved), the concepts are still there.Replayability is definitely a factor. There's new things to unlock, which means multiple playthrough's with some different challenges you can add (no heart runs, Metallic and the other unlockable difficulty), etc.Multiple endings (basically no other audio game I can think of right now does this save maybe Manamon 2, kinda).I know translation is definitely a factor that turns some people off, but honestly I would definitely recommend at least trying the game out if it appeals to you. I seriously wish we had more of these kind of games, honestly.

Re: Any advice on how I can find decent regen items on Alter Eon

Once upon a time I could have mapped out basically every area with good gear until at least level 30 without issue. Honestly best thing to do as others have said is try and ask around. I haven't seriously played in a good couple years now, but I have popped in from time to time to check out new gear etc. Faerieland on Archais had some seriously amazing stuff, so would definitely suggest doing the quests there. Those vampire hearts from that hidden Village near Gnomian are pretty insane for their level too. That bixy crown is a mregen 2.0 piece, you can find that in the forest east of indira. Basically you're looking for a clearing which takes you into a garden with bees. From there you're looking for a tree, up the top of which is the queen. There might be something better at your level honestly, I seem to remember some mregen 3.0 Tiara for lvl 20 ish cleric, that might be in the temple near Seaside with the Lich Priest? Its also entirely possible that like 8 new areas have come out since I've even logged on so... yeah I'm afraid I can't help you there too much.Honourable mentions go to those silver chain sleeves from the spirit of King ratheborn, as well as the two necklaces in that hidden room on the cliff on the Island near Naphtali (the one you sail the ship to). There's an item called silverleaf belt which is lvl 18 and mregen 2.5, though I forget if that's a druid piece or not. There's Shamanic Robes from Grundgi in the troll cave area west of dragontooth, lvl 25 and mregen 3 unless they've been changed.Foggy ring of the ether or whatever that thing is called from the centaur chief in Fort Magnesia, those are mregen 3 as well iirc. I can try log on over the next couple days or so and I'll help you grab some stuff. Feel free to send a mudmail to Riku and I'll see it when I log in.keep in mind, some of the pieces I've suggested are just older pieces I remember off the top of my head, so there may be newer stuff with both magecast and regen on it that's better. Faerieland I know is one such place where there's a lot of newer style gear. Traditionally, I've always made multiple sets for both regen and magecast because that's just how gears been structured for years.Spider Silk Robes are also a pretty sweet deal, though you might be slightly too low level for them? Total 80 ish, magecast 1, mregen 3.5 or there abouts? They load on Elton the Sorcerer in the drow caves beneath Azaroth Keep.Silk Gloves of the temptress are another decent piece, lvl 19 ish or there abouts? Forget if they're classed flagged or not though. They load on one of the keepers of the lifestones in Idlewood west of naphtali. There's probably more but hth.

Yeah just having to press like 4 different keys to get one thing done, also just the way you had to look around for some reason didn't do it for me at all. I feel like the whole thing could have been way more intuitive? Actually that's my sentiments on basically all the Chinese games. Battle of Armageddon was a game I actually thought could be kinda fun and in some ways the first of it's kind, but the circa 1990s/early 2000s audio game design again turned me right off. I understand why some of the things ended up being the way they were, until I don't.

I seriously feel like we could have condensed this topic down to like, 5 posts. It was never said that the game "would" be accessible, only that it might. This kind of stuff all takes time, companies work on tight schedules to meet deadlines, you've heard it all before. Look, I honestly do share the frustration as I'm sure many of us do, but continuously complaining about these things and coming off as overly self-entitled (SPAY) helps absolutely no one. I'm all for promoting healthy discussion on these things, but seriously could some of you step back and actually think about what you're posting before you do it?I'm personally not picking up the game, but I seriously do commend the efforts that have been taken here and in games like Valhalla, which is something I'm looking forward to immensely because I love that whole Viking era. Also I've always loved the idea of the discovery tours so that's awesome they're bringing it back!

Re: finally trying to get into ESP Pinball. Any tips?

Honestly? Just keep playing and trying different things. You'll find that tables can have their own little gimmicks, but I feel like that's just something you figure out over time. There's definitely a big element of randomness to it though, that's half the excitement (or frustration) of pinball. Different strategies work for different people. You can read about table layouts all day and night, but if you don't really ever play the game I'd wager it probably won't do you much good. Some 15 years on and both games are definitely up there with my most favourite audio games. I'm just sad we never got the planned table creator though.

Fun fact. In Japan there was an online mobile service you could connect your gameboy to that was around for the first year or two of Pokemon Crystal's release. Talk about an idea that was still quite honestly years ahead of it's time. To answer your question though, not that I know of. Unless someone's made some online version of the link cable I don't know about. I know they did that for gameboy advance. If your goal is simply just to get all pokemon, there are roms of Crystal that have been made that changes certain methods of trading.

Re: undead-assault is back!

Hey, I now have the weirdest problem with this game. Literally nothing is reading to me anymore. I was playing just fine up until yesterday. was able to navigate the menus, do all that just fine. Now I just get no speech. I checked to make sure the NVDA control DLL's were still there and they were indeed. What else would have done this?

Shadow Line, the last dungeon

I think I'm just looking for the darkness key now? I've beaten this game years ago, but don't remember how I got it. Does anyone know how you get to it? I know there's a room with 2 switches, 1 of which is blocked off by a teleporter. I've been kinda looking for a way to get through to the other side, but its so easy to get turned around there because half the dungeon seems to take you round in circles. I think its the darkness key, anyway?

I did that, even tried changing the case of play.exe and all that. It works outside of locale emu, but even after switching to the Japanese keyboard it doesn't translate properly, probably because I haven't switched the system locale (because well... locale emu). I've played a number of the Japanese games before. Not sure if version matters, but was using NVDA 2019.2.1

Re: Which games take a lot of investment and time to complete?

I think it's strange that you say not Manamon, your reasoning for this really doesn't make any sense. You were asking about time investors, not "how much time can I put into a game but only if I can be bothered or have the time."Manamon 1/2 definitely, particularly 2. I haven't beaten the post game content yet, though I've been told there's quite a bit to do. Shadow Line I can confirm as well can give you a good 15/20 hours, possibly more on your first playthrough if you don't use a walkthrough. Again, a bunch of post game stuff to unlock there too through subsequent playthroughs. I've only managed to beat it once, though I'm almost done with my second playthrough. That last dungeon confuses me. A Hero's call as well. I really should go play Shades of Doom again, its been many, many years. Tank Commander, perhaps? Still up there as far as unique audio games too. I suppose things like Grizzly Gulch and Chillingham can sort of be considered a bit of a time investment. GG you do have the other difficulty you can try too. Again though, like most games they're really easy once you've beaten them once. the BD series as well, I imagine a lot of the text JRPG's too, but I personally can't confirm that yet. I really should get to playing those. Obviously Crazy Party can be quite a time investor, particularly with new content getting added semi regularly. Monkey Business, perhaps? If you can get it to work completely, that is. Again, most of these are assuming its your first time playing.

Re: Thinking of Trying Alter Aeon Again but Have one Question

Okay wow, I was totally going to chime in and give my advice but @Nocturnus, you explained it far better than I could. I think the main appeal for necro warriors is the amount of HP you have to bloodmist with. Of course the downside to necro is that you get pretty wrecked by area attacks, though the extra HP from warrior probably helps with that, at least long enough for you to deal with the problem. That can be a pretty tough setup though if you don't know what you're doing. Again very fixable, but there's a lot of skills you'll only be putting 1 or 2 pracs into. You can kinda balance that out once your 5th and 6th classes come into play.

Re: Is the story mode in gears of War five playable?

Uh yeah, how? In built narration is cool, but as far as affecting gameplay does absolutely nothing. There's certain things you can do like adjusting various volumes, but yeah the only playable mode really is Horde mode. Other people might have had luck doing certain things in other modes, but not without the help of sighted people. Honestly one of the biggest things that turns me off Gears personally are the map designs. Being able to find your way round while figuring out if you're supposed to jump over a ledge or go round a wall is a big one. That's fine in a single player situation, but if you're trying to support your team effectively, there's only so much the "follow the noise of other players/enemies," strategy is going to work for you. If anyone can prove me absolutely wrong, by all means go for it. I'm sure there's people out there that manage to have fun with it, but yeah.

Steam is definitely usable, people just need to explore some more of the alternative methods for obtaining text from their screen reader. I've been using steam for years. Link to the article on setup and use below.https://forum.audiogames.net/topic/3013 … r-in-2019/I bought Audio Wizards on both iOS and Android. Sure its not the next big innovative blockbuster, but was it really ever trying to be? The later levels can definitely get particularly challenging. If nothing else, keep it around to try and train your reflexes. Considering all the effort that actually went into things like the sound, sourcing material from the very community you're making the game for, that's pretty cool. I don't think 5 bucks is too steep of a price. You can never please everyone though I guess.

Thought I saw someone having a problem yesterday with it for that reason. The link in post 1 literally explains everything you need to get going with it. Yeah its a bit random. Once you've set up your translation service and all the OCR stuff, save save save your config. I know this is all probably future pipeline stuff, but my dream would be to have a service that will automatically OCR what it needs to, then make a check to ensure its gotten the best possible result. Once done, it would autoread back to you with little or no delay. Is what I'm suggesting even possible? This would mean less of a chance to miss things that might only stay on screen for a very short amount of time. I'm totally not intending to sound ungrateful or anything, just thinking aloud.

Honestly you could also pick up something like a GPD win, which is more than fine for playing pretty much any GB/GBA game and probably at least some DS games. Sometimes I kinda feel like I have a GBA SP with a screen reader and a full windows OS. Also just more buttons. lol. If you were on a super tight budget you could probably still find the original lying around, so you'd be getting a pretty good balance of both worlds in a pretty portable setup. I loved the SP back in the day though, probably still one of my favourite Nintendo designs.

Re: any tips for playing pokemon

Does anyone have any idea why Pokemon games have inherently been fairly accessible outside of the whole, reading text thing? It's one of the only game series I can think of that has paid as much attention to it's sounds in the way that it has. For example: Health beeps when in the red, but in Gen 3 they improved that even more by lowering the pitch of the cry when at half health. Obviously I can understand most Pokemon having their own cry for personality sake, but it's still cool. Doors and walls make noises and text makes noise too. In Gen 4 (can't speak for Diamond Pearl or Platinum though,) terrain noises become a thing. You get the idea.@jayde:Yeah I don't really like what they did in HGSS with the music either. I know you used to be able to get remade version of the old chiptunes from within the game, but don't think that's a thing you can do anymore because that service was shut down a long time ago. I love what they did in Black and White with the battle music at low health, kinda wish they'd bring that back. Though I'm not complaining about the newer system where it only beeps 4 times, either. Can't speak much further for anything past Gen 5 though, don't have a 3DS and not really planning on it. What I watched from Oras was pretty cool, I watched some sun and moon stuff and thought it was neat that they were finally! Trying new ideas. I know next to nothing about the newer games past that point though.

I love what they did in Black and White with the battle music at low health, kinda wish they'd bring that back. Though I'm not complaining about the newer system where it only beeps 4 times, either. Can't speak for anything past Gen 5 though, don't have a 3DS and not really planning on it.

Re: any tips for playing pokemon

I've been trying to find it, but I used to have an insanely cool reference for Pokemon cries. The super neat thing about Gen 3 and onward is that any pokemon local to your location would make cries as you walk around. I never beat it as a kid, but I'm considering picking up Emerald again. I've been watching all these crazy challenges on youtube. Nostalgia for Emerald is pretty high for me. I used to have people at school who would help me with certain parts. Pretty sure I got into the trading scene for a little too. Again though, I somehow managed to never beat the game.

Maybe he doesn't want to be contacted and asked billions of times for games that he's stated he's not working on? Honestly the guy brought some pretty interesting concepts to the community, even if they may not have been the most amazingly written. I thought the idea of Survive the Wild was neat and honestly has a lot of potential. Redspot, while again probably not executed in the most efficient way had some cool things you could do if you could get around the targeting system. I'd love to see a version of both the 0.6 server and game (whatever the last version was before the bases), anyway. Best of luck to him and I hope he goes places.

Is there any tried and true way of being able to OCR gb/gbc games? For example, Pokemon. If I could read things like Pokemon moves, stats etc and in game text, it'd be a pretty sweet deal. I kinda wouldn't mind playing RBY again.Update:The scripts for Crystal uh... sort of work with RBY. It'll read certain things but not others. Battles will generally read out though, NPC text usually will too, but can be a bit scrambled within the ASCII art. No footsteps or map though so its back to trailing walls and figuring out where grass is, etc. Items and mart sort of read too, but you need to get to the point where you want to confirm your purchase to figure out what you're buying and how much of it you're buying.

I'm curious @post 3 and anyone else who brought this up, where did the whole banning crazy party thing come from? If we're banning crazy party because of stolen sounds etc, where does that put 98 percent of the games round here? I guess another prime example as far as sounds go is the Alter soundpack. Tons of music used from Final Fantasy, streetfighter, other games I can't think to mention right now. Same goes with the sounds. Some of those sounds are community created, but a fair portion aren't. I'd love love love to see a Mario Cart style game though. Honestly I'm not really sure it's something you can add to crazy party either. Just a different style of game.

Second half of split fencer dungeon in Shadow Line

I'm on the 21st floor and get to a room that has 3 sets of pits to jump over, with those teleport things to take you back to the previous set of pits. Once I get over the 3 sets of pits, I'm confronted by one of those bridge things that you need to dash over. It's way too long to dash over and the field viewer just shows me that there's a pit on the other side with no discerning gap I can find. Anyone got any hints? I swear I did this years ago. It's quite possible certain things have been changed from version to version as well.

Re: Gears 5 accessiibility

Here's a pretty in depth explanation of how the Horde mode basically works. There's people like @sightless who might be able to provide some tips, I literally picked the game up last night so don't know how much of this is manageable yet.https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/ge … ode-guide/A few little tips:Turn on the fabricator ping and target assist in accessibility settings. I think you only get use of the latter on beginner difficulty. Trust me, the games insane enough as it is.As you're walking around, hit LB periodically to keep track of the fabricator. The higher pitch the beep, the closer you are to it. Beep is also directional.I typically hold X as I'm walking around in case of ammo and weapon drops. Unfortunately none of these seem to make sound. Not sure if you need to do the same to pick up all the power on ground too.If you're walking around and can't seem to get far, you're either at a wall or some sort of ledge. If it's the latter, hit A to jump. I'm not sure if you stop in front of ledges? You definitely do for walls. When it doubt hit B which is your melee attack. If you're in front of a wall, you'll hear it. Also your controller won't vibrate if you're hitting a wall.I think holding A adjust something to do with your cover, so dunno too much about that right now.I feel like I'm missing stuff, but it's far too early to be engaging in much cognitive activity. If I think of anything/discover new stuff then I'll add it.HTH.If anyone wanted to do a little tutorial or overview of how the game works, there's definitely people that would appreciate it. If no one else can do it, I'll give it a go. I don't really have an amazing method of doing that right now though and the games general nature makes it difficult to get much talking in.

I like the idea and it's fun, after the first few rounds things get pretty chaotic and it's often difficult to figure out what you're supposed to be shooting at over the guns of your team. I seriously wish there was a way to speed up narrator speech for games and such though, particularly if you want to quickly buy something from the fabricator in a pinch. That being said, I honestly had to stop for a few seconds and appreciate that we're even at a point where I can at least navigate the majority of menus in a triple A game. Excited to see the potential.

Re: My New Outlook on Constant Battle.

Ugh can we just ban any and all discussion of this damn game? I'm so sick of seeing anything about it. Of course I'm not at all expecting that, but every week I feel like there's always some new drama or whatever surrounding this game.

Re: help with shadow rine

@11Yep, the Fencer one was the one I was talking about. I believe it's 40 floors? It's been a long time so I could be like... way off. I'm not completely sure what level you have to be to unlock it, either. I just remember playing the game so much, exploring every single thing I could. I think in the end I got over 30 hours of playtime lol.
