Well, what exactly are you trying to challenge? At risk of asking a silly question. If the sounds are distinct, sound sufficiently high-tech and relate somewhat to bombs, code entry or whatever, then I shouldn't have a problem. The only condition is that the sounds have known positions, which you can either announce verbally ("this sound is the top left...") or which can be discovered, much as now.

I like the black jack dealer. She sounds very amused all the time. I think you should combine "Bomb Disarmer" and Simon into the same game, as different modes of play. They are, after all, the same game! And please allow Bomb Disarmer to use sound packs; the DTMF tones are really hard for me to distinguish, not to mention uncomfortable.For "Memory" and anywhere else this applies, please try to mimmick VoiceOver. Once a box is selected by dragging, double-tap anywhere means double-tap that box. Ditto the corners; once swiped or tapped, now double-tap anywhere activates them. Otherwise you've got to carefully double-tap in the exact same spot you found them, which I find to be quite hit-and-miss.Edit: thank you Raygrote, that helped a lot re the DTFM and I can see how that makes sense, also thanks Jack for pointing out the 
 differences between this and Simon. I still struggle, and believe as it's not core to the game, there should be at least alternative types of beeps. Simple tonal sine waves would work OK for me.

OK, so when I saw that this game had won the Apple WWDC Design awards (congratulations!), and read that it did so because, among other things, it had accessibility, I decided that I must check it out, and I'm very glad I did. It's really quite wonderful, and  mind-blowing besides. I'm surprised, in fact, that it's even possible, or that Apple would award such a thing. But anyway, it's earned a place on my "preferred" list, so again, congratulations.

It's possible it's on your Purchased page, but it definitely isn't in the store at the moment, for whatever reason. If you press the button to go to developer apps, you'll see what's out there now. It's a free app, with all of the first volumes in each series (and none of the standalone games) unlocked, and all the others on freemium. But glad you've got it for way cheaper--not that I minded paying.

It's iOS and I couldn't find the Android port, which I imagine is because these guys are iOS devs.Yes, the Lifeline games read, but there's less convenience because it's not self-voicing. It works, if you flick about.Apple wins the gaming crown on iOS, but not on Mac. Android has far fewer games, but Windows picks up the slack. On the other hand, contemporary games are far, far more likely to be mobile, and my personal experience finds me playing mobile a lot more than desktop nowadays, even with a Windows virtual machine on standby. It's just how things roll.

Yeah, it does sound like you're using a different app, Dark. If it's called "Bundle" rather than "Library" then Sam has probably simply upgraded you to a version that's contemporary, which means you haven't lost your investment. So, if nothing else, congratulate yourself on having got the content at a substantial discount. However, the only store listing for Delight Games now is this monster app, and Wiz Choice.Anyway, I'm really glad we've got these now.

Silly me, I got my refund on the original pack. Maybe, with your existing app you were able to recoup, but I indeed had to pay, let's see, £39.99 including VAT. That gives me everything, and I collected all the loyalty coins as well for signing up etc.I've loved the Wiz Choice series thus far, so look forward to playing them again, fully updated. I do like the ChoiceScript games for their VO-friendliness, for the most part, but Sam's done a pretty good job with this new engine.

Perhaps. This one does have the virtue of being completely accessible and self-voicing, which is always nice, plus you're already familiar with A Dark Room. There are no puzzles that I can see which are actually time-critical. So, you could start with it. I myself have reinstalled the app with the aim of trying harder to like it, until I've finished it anyway, but it's definitely beginner.

TheCodingMonkeys, the authors of Lost Cities, have a new choose-your-own-adventure or interactive fiction game, One-Button Travel. It's a concrete time-travel sci-fi story, which, like many recent games of this type, tells an unravelling story by means of a text-based, real-time, multiple-choice-answer chat session. Our protagonist (that's you) finds himself a time-traveller in an uncertain future, whose only companion is another user of the same app who has travelled in time before him.Although this was faintly amusing, I didn't finish it. Maybe when I'm in the mind to put in the effort, I'll give it another try, but the truth is that it has essentially no puzzles and doesn't pull many heart-strings. If you fancy a weird, down-to-earth time-travel adventure, give it a try, but I probably won't be keeping this on my device. You'll be happy to know that, 
 unlike The Martian and those games in the Lifeline series, you can in fact turn off the real-time aspect, thus making the game that much more playable, but really, nothing can change my feeling that it's just not all that compelling a story, unfortunately. I won't be requesting a refund, all the same.

I finally got to buy these. Unlock of lifetime access is costly (£30+) but worth it IMO. I also bought some coins, just because.I can now happily say that I no longer need the Wiz Choice app, as this version is perfectly accessible. The app as a whole, including all the features, works, including the scrolling issue, the purchasing features, the library and stats, etc. It really looks like we now have an awesome time ahead.Splendiferous! It also has some pretty infuriating bugs. You can't "Fast forward" unless you do it at the precise moment you are offered it, and not after. You can't "Rewind" after death if your last choice was to wait (and not respond). The real-time aspect is not optional; you must sit through breaks, even where, honestly, they add no real suspense or value (Mark is sleeping, meh). Etc. I really want to like this game, but yeah, it feels like more of a publicity stunt with these sorts of issues. Moreover, having played it a bit more, I'd say familiarity with the novel and/or movie was _not_ advised, unless you enjoy reading reams of backgrounder.So in summary: I'll be playing this through, trying to get as much entertainment out of it as possible, and then I'll probably remove it. It's not going to stay a permanent fixture of my home screens.

For those who've watched the recently-released "The Martian" (available on iTunes, audiodescribed) or read the (predictably far superior) original novel (also on Audible) by Andy Weir, you'll be glad to know there's an app for that and, as far as I can see, it's accessible. From the quality of the accessibility I'd judge that they made the effort.I have yet to really get down to playing it, but it's one of those captivating, real-time games which mean that you spend more time fiddling with your phone than actually doing anything. You take the place of a NASA communications specialist, and you must direct "The martian" to survive by doing research and supplying the information necessary to bring him home. It uses notifications, and, if you have one, has support for your Apple Watch.

@Dark you're not, but you're definitely in the minority at this point. Not suggesting that's bad or wrong, of course, but it's true, all the same. Most holdouts have moved, per force, to Win7 at minimum; the others went to Linux or investigated Mac, much as you are.I don't visit the CoG website much; everything I need from there is in the iOS App Store, which is how I check for new apps (oh how I wish they'd send email notifications or even download new purchases from them!) or GitHub, where they published their interpreter and documentation. The BrailleNote is, I fear, too far obsolete to be of any use as a web-surfing device, but I still valiantly attempt it every so often, nonetheless.@Grryf: ooh! You ran away, but you also got Barmy Barny or whatever his name is? I need to play again--didn't really feel like running away, but if it's a winning move ...  Think I'll spy on people more this time.

Windows 7 is the minimum, the prompted upgrades to the data-slurping Windows 10 (for "Free") the maximum. I would settle for 8.1 with Classic Shell, myself.

I realise times have changed, but I'd actually be tempted to buy from the CoG website if the game stored your state and allowed you to play connected with the server doing the processing, so you could play from devices with limited or no _javascript_ support. I know, running applications in the browser is just the in thing to do, but it seems counterintuitive to me that one requires access to a web page if one is not then going to stay connected. In fact the game data is loaded and interpreted, so you can disconnect and then continue playing, but you need _javascript_ and a modern browser to do it. Might as well just buy the packaged app if that's going to be what you get anyway. Still, kudos to CoG for making use of _javascript_ in a way that doesn't make me want to puke.

Have fun in the casino. Lots and lots of fun. Though as usual, my char warped as the game proceeded, chiefly I think due to a lack of appropriate choices in places. The game seems to correctly assign motives most times, but yeah, fundamental issue with CYOA.It was a great game, better even than ZE in the writing department IMO. If you read Jim's ZE blog there's a probable explanation for that. Really moving.

Unfortunately Ive now got blood all over my iPhone from friction burns on my left index finger which I also used for TouchID. Ive cleaned the phone, but havent stopped playing …The nightmares may yet dissuade me. But at least I got the sonic cannon. My accuracy has suffered as a result of my finger, or perhaps in spite of it; I cant seem to substitute the finger so am now using the ball rather than the tip. I probably *should* stop; its not like there isnt plenty else to be doing.

For a hint, though, mostly negative, because the game is hard and repetitive. Apparently, Somethin Else arent working hard enough to introduce the newbie player, or else our expectations are too low to know whats good for us because the ambience still isnt enough. I found myself getting rather defensive on that point, but its sobering, all the same. For the record, I think its a fantastic game.

Hang on, I think we should try and reconcile what we were worried about with what we have. Why do you suppose this is a fun game despite the fact that it has very simple controls? I think it comes down to ambience and the fact that the mechanics are essentially environmental. The game presents a plausible (for the game, that is) set of in-game objects, powerups, monsters, currency and so on, and the result is an immersive player experience even independent of the quality of the audio and the controls, both of which are ingeniously simple. I think thats an important lesson, because it says that the superficial concern that the game cannot be fun because it appears to offer no depth on the basis of the controls is clearly incorrect. PacMan notwithstanding. I agree, more challenges. But Im doing just fine in endless mode too, and enjoying it very much. Ive surely
  run through all the cards, but Im still playing--well, of course, theres the money aspect, too.

I purchased this a few days ago.Yes, the iOS potential is there, given the simplicity of the control and the emphasis on the audio its always rather nice to have that level of convenience.But … somebody didnt test even the instructions for iOS, because double-tapping is required rather than single-tapping in the main menu. I *DO* hope iOS isnt being treated as a second-class citizen here.The robotic effect is rather intense. Im missing out on some of the instructions, though if I repeat them often enough, I can grapple them, kinda.Yes, this is another maze-crawl-type affair, only this time, there is less ambience. The plot is yet to develop, so Ill give this a fair shot. But its definitely not free-form. Double-tapping everywhere is about the only way to test if youre in range of an interactable object, and there are no audio cues so the only information you get comes from hitting barriers, as in Inquisitors Heartbeat.

God I love this game! It really is a very, I dont know, pure sonic gaming experience, with lots of ambience to keep you busy and playing. Edit: one outstanding and very annoying bug is that there is no easy way to cancel from an upgrade power-up in progress. My advice is to perform rough calculations in your head rather than just trying an upgrade, because if it fails youll have to hard reset the game in order to resume playing. Other than that …

@Dark yes, once you hit the button its atomically upgraded, however before that step there is no way to back out. So realistically the only thing you can do once youve selected a powerup is purchase it or stop the game from the task switcher. This means Im now just not bothering with them--probably not important--but its annoyingly persistent all the same.

Well, if the question ever comes up about financial shortages and what to do about them, Id be happy to pay another upfront payment to unlock the next distinct part, so long as it was distinct from the previous and the enjoyment of one was not conditioned on the enjoyment of the other. Of course, the temptation to take money in exchange for powerups is always great, not just for the player but the authors too. I just think Sixth Sense advanced rewards waay too slowly to be useful for anything, whereas AudioDefence is truly wonderful.

I am using autolock 1 minute and so far its not been a problem for me, though it has in the past EG with Ticonblu.I have mixed feelings about upgrading for real money, but in this instance I think its genuinely a pleasure to see an in-game currency establishment that doesnt require it. Why, dont you _want_ to kill more monsters, just for the fun of it? This game is more elaborate and fun than I thought possible, given the simple mechanic. But it does run the real risk of running out of content. Without the challenges, without the powerups, then yes, it will eventually weary.

You can replace the sounds; those are just standard wave files. Go ahead and supply replacements. These are loaded in preference to the pak files; if you want to replace in-game sounds, you can do that, too; just provide files of the names as they are found in the pak files.Thanks for bringing this up, I will make sure we have good instructions.

Im not sure I like the idea of solving the problem of limited screen reader support by abandoning the cause of web access; after all it looks like this thing has the potential to be the next UI for everybody, not just the blinks.I am surprised that only OS X gets ARIA right. ( Make mental note to use this as weapon against Windows apologists.  )It is really quite fascinating that youve distributed the computing load across the clients. Very cool.Perhaps there is one hope for the console-based approach: you package either a console-based client, i.e. one that runs from a textmode session in Doze or OS X ( or even, we can hope, Linux  ), or you make it possible for the client software on a persons computer to start a TCP listener, to which standard tel

Aha, now I understand re your speech API usage; in that case it seems much more plausible.I do appreciate what youre saying about the direction of tablet computing, but I also think theres something definitely not right about it. I cant say yet exactly what that is, though.  Perhaps it is robustness, or the maturity of the technology. But in any event, it seems that simplifying every interface so that a web browser can access it is the new fad. The phones/tables are merely dumb clients, simplified for that purpose, like appliances. From the consumer perspective, this is of course entirely reasonable. The only consolation will be that people will continue to run those services on servers, which must be running capable OSs that do as the user commands them. And of those capable OSs, how many will have desktop equivalents, run by users who are comfortable with lo

Or will it be that servers, too, become manufactured out of the box as vertical appliances, trivialised so that they are remotely controlled by phones and tablets, with no user-serviceable software? Agreed Dark. Well, I dont object to bop-it; it can be fun too. Of course, I think many early games were addictive purely on the face of the limited interface, i.e. the story was all you could really go on. PacMan is fun just as much because its a reaction test as because it puts the central character into an entertaining and exhilarating position IMO.

The short answer is that yes you can do it, but I wouldnt rush into it. To get rotating maps working you will have to know the Quake commands and modify the cfg file. And to get multiple servers up you will have to listen on different port numbers, and run ports through your NAT box.The thing to understand is that Quake is always client-server; even when you play single-player, whats happening is that the client is actually speaking the server protocol to itself, internally. The server program merely externalises that server function into a separate process. So, learn how to use the main engine first, i.e. the whole of Quake, and then you can learn how to run the server with the right config. You can choose which map to start, which game mode, and whether cheats are enabled or not.I will see whether or not it would be possible to run Quake from a direc
 tory rather than the launcher; that might be helpful. In the meantime, dont be alarmed if things are patchy; it is beta after all.

A fairly nasty bug indeed, making the game progress beyond that point impossible.Also VoiceOver gesture issues, with weird redrawing effects when you swipe past certain elements.I know I want to continue playing, which means I must like the game, but these bugs in the first (official) release are a little bit disconcerting.

Are we playing the same game here? I assume we are …Mine crashes after the second cash machine. @stewie: aha, thank you. It still crashed, but now I can select subsequent levels. Blimey this game is buggy! I understand, its the first release, but …yep, Im getting the really weird UI meshing. My advice is not to bother flicking at all; restrict yourself to sliding around and the scroll gesture.

I agree with those cautious about too great an emphasis on simplicity. Of course, its easy to forget how sighted people would react to the kind of depth and mechanics were after, but I do worry that they may also be given the wrong impression about the kinds of play wed enjoy. Not that Im ungrateful for anything, but just as a sighted person might not like to have their happiness damped by the abilities of another, so we would expect the same. Of course this leads nicely into a political discussion about equality which I will _not_ entertain on this thread.

Yep, any feedback appreciated.If you want to run the server Headless (i.e. without GUI) there is a little more work to do, I fear. But it absolutely starts and runs from the launcher now, or it should anyway. Have fun.

Here are the changes...You can now launch a server and a remote console session from the Launcher.Weve a key to the sounds document on the Launcher menu.We have included the old documentation for AudioQuake 0.3.0.All documentation written by us is in HTML format now, so should be easier to navigate.Please note that the old AudioQuake 0.3.0 documentation has not been updated to take into account the new Mac/Window
 s release, nor the new GUI launcher, so please ignore the parts about installation, the old command-line-based launcher and anything to do with Linux (for now). We are working on updating the documentation as soon as we can, and would suggest that if youre totally new to the game, you wait until weve been able to done that before playing.Please remember that AudioQuake was and is a research project and not all of the Quake levels are very accessible -- however a number are, and a number of accessible multi-player levels are provided, as well as a server.
