Re: Why don’t we have any comic books

Comicstorian does just fine, in my view. Check out Comics Explained and Variant Comics as well. I also tend to look up characters online with the search as *character name* Character Comic Vine and they'll give you a pretty good rundown of things. I wish we had comics, comics are my passion, it's taken me a lot to build up the knowledge I have. If you have any questions, please, don't hesitate to ask.

I have Alter Bridge, Amaranthe, Bad Wolves, Slipknot, Five Finger Death Punch, Gojira, Wage War, Breaking Benjamin, and my all time favorite band, Ice Nine Kills. Oh and Avenged Sevenfold. What I'm saying is, I love metal. I go to Rock USA every year, and they usually have a great lineup.

Jack, I have a question for you. You keep using the term "Cell transplant." Does this mean they're using the same display I have now? Or are they going to just take my old device, scrap it for spare parts and give me the +? It seems more cost efficient to do that rather than change out the cells and transferring them to my new one.

Re: Important! Anyone who uses NVDA should fill out this NVAccess Survey.

An issue I've found is that at times, NVDA will just lag intensely. Speech refuses to interrupt when I hit control, and it won't even interrupt itself with other words. For example, I type with characters turned on. I'm a writer so I like to hear what I'm typing. And when the characters won't interrupt each other, it gets really frustrating. So I restart NVDA... which fixes it for about three minutes. Then it's back to the same old thing. A total computer restart is often required.

Re: Chronicles of Narnia Audiodrama

The Focus On The Family one was a surprise gift from my mother a few years ago. I didn't know about GraphicAudio back then, so I was tickled pink by the concept of an audio book that wasn't the same guy droning on and on and on. The sound design is less impactful than, say, GraphicAudio, such as the fact that footsteps sound much more halting and sometimes the audio isn't as refined as predone sound libraries are, but Focus On The Family makes their own sounds so it's actually pretty amazing. I have the collection now, and it's in a nice shiny collector's tin with a Map of Narnia included. The stories are loved by all, no matter the age, though as I've grown up I have realized that the books are a bit boring the older you are, and shorter, the longest one is about 3 hours, so you could listen to a book in the space of time it takes you to watch one of the Lord Of The Rings movies. I'd get it, the Focus On The Family one, that is. It's quite fun.

Re: I just got back from the movies and...

I'm an avid moviegoer. In fact, I plan to go tomorrow to Bumblebee. The ticket prices are five dollars on Tuesdays at the Marcus Cinema around here, so I plan to go to that. That being said, I usually have to pay a bit extra for the Dram Lounger seats, basically leather recliners, since there's more space for my service dog to rest on the floor. But yes, my friends and I go to plenty of movies together. We saw Predator, Venom, Infinity War, Incredibles 2 and Into The Spiderverse in 2018 alone. Oh yes, and Black Panther. This year promises to be no different. I'm going to ask them about Glass, since I haven't seen Split and Unbreakable yet but I plan to, then we've got The Lego Movie AND How To Train Your Dragon 3 next month, Captain Marvel the month after that, Hellboy and Avengers: Endgame that month, Detective Pikachu and Godzilla the month after, Men In Black International and Toy Story 4 in June, Spider-Man: Far From Home and The Lion King in July, An empty August and September, then Zombieland 2, maybe, sometime in October, Kingsmen 3 in November, closing out the year with Star Wars Episode 9 in December. So it's going to be a very, very busy year for us movie fans. And a very, very hurtful year for our wallets...

I am THE Marvel guru so... you’ve come to the right place. Wikipedia often does issue summaries. They don’t have the text of the issue itself but it’s highly detailed. As Aaron said, Graphicaudio, ALL of their books are based on actual comics. Avengers VS X-Men is stunning, Venom: Lethal Protector comes out next week. I stockpiled my knowledge with ComicVine, a website easily findable if you, say, search Captain America (Character) Comic Vine in Google. Also, Comicstorian and VariantComics on Youtube do fantastic work. ComicsExplained is okay but he’s a bit rambly. WhatCulture Comics does fun stuff, and Watchmojo.com has some comics lists. Learning British English

Hello everyone. So, for a reason I do not quite know myself, I wish to learn British English to a more familiar degree beyond changing color to colour and realize to realise. Any particularly good websites for this that people have used? I probably will have to learn a marginally slightly different gramatical structure as well. Thanks in advance.

CAE, it's funny you mention Nightwish, because I like there instrumental stuff. I cannot stand her voice though. Not even in Within Temptation. The closest to symphonic metal I really like is Amaranthe, because all the other vocalists annoy me and sound the same. I might try a bit more Delain though. Also yes, Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy should go well.

Starting A Business: Questions On Some of the Finer Details

Hello everyone. My friend and I are about to open a business that has the potential to be something great. We plan to have a coffee shop designed for D And D  players. The unique thing will be it's going to be super theme oriented. For example, the interior will be that of an inn, servers will dress like different class types, themed menus, fantasy decor. Even some events, such as the rather joke event my friend and I concocted: Blind jousting.  There is one question, though, that I had. For music in the place. If we were to play pre-recorded, copyrighted music, would we have to contact the artists for permission or anything of that sort?Thank you in advance and I will keep everyone updated on progress as we go.

Not that I am aware of, no. I think there may have been a time shift lately but I am not quite sure. It just started out of nowhere yesterday, and after resetting the Conternet last night it fixed itself, but then again this morning it had the same issue. In the middle of writing I have been told there is a time shift coming up November 5th. Would that affect anything?

All of your facts that you just posted are a matter of personal opinion, as are most of mine.  I think, though, you're focusing to much on one point. You may only be able to read 50-60 words a minute, which is fine, but again, a lot of this is personal preference. I could explain myself more but it would just be me saying the same thing over and over.

Re: Braille: A philosophy

I think what it comes down to is the fact that people want to take the easy way out. The people I've spoken to who are staunch supporters of screen reading have all said, "It's easier."  That makes me sad as well, for the simple fact that people are too quick to take the easy way out which is not always a benefit. I want to make this clear: I also use a screen reader, as is evidenced by the fact that I play audiogames. But that's about the extent of it, besides Twitter and Facebook.  One other thing to note: People who may not speak English primarily will make spelling mistakes, hell, you should see me try to write in Spanish, it's atrocious. But sometimes, when English speakers are writing illegibley... That worries me.

Re: Braille: A philosophy

Afrim, it's interesting you bring that up because I actually had a debate with someone about that very same topic not long ago. While yes, Braille displays do a lot less than mainstream computers, consider this: Computer manufacturers are selling to a higher number of people. They can afford to make their prices significantly less, because their devices are in much higher production and much higher profit. Now a braille device is usually A, bought by a school district for one or more students or B, bought by a select group of people who can raise the money for it, their profit is significantly less. And there are multiple things besides the technological aspects. You have to take into account licensing agreements, labor costs, part costs, distribution, repairing, like any other tech company would have to. But again, the reason braille devices are so outlandishly pricey is the simple fact they need to do it to make a living.

Braille: A philosophical Essay

2017-10-17 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : Dragomier via Audiogames-reflector

Braille: A philosophical Essay

Hello, everyone. It is I, the self-styled philosopher, here with another topic that has been eating away at me for years now.  First, let me begin with some background on myself. I was not born blind. A rather aggressive brain tumor destroyed my optic nerves, leaving me completely blind at the age of two. At the age of three, I was enrolled in the early childhood program at my elementary school. And, here, I began to learn braille.  I studied it diligently for years, until I was about seven years old, whereupon my training was complete. I had read for four years then and discovered I loved it. So I read...And read...And read a bit more after that...Competed in some Braille Challenges...Read more...Went to high school...Read...Applied for college and got accepted...And here we are now. Some rather disturbing developments have come up of late, though. As I am an avid braille reader, I will attest to the fact
that braille is important. Extremely so. But lately, it's come to my attention that some people would rather read through audio or screen reader than braille itself. This at it's core is personal preference, something I cannot disrespect anyone for. But the phrase that strikes me as the most disturbing is, "Braille is dying."  Let me pause in my philosophical ramblings to say that, as most of you may know, I am a writer, and hold my ability to spell and use grammar in high regard. I apologize if that sounds arrogant and ironic, for I'm sure I'll end up finding out I've made a few errors here.Back to the subject at hand. There is an increasing amount of blind people who are leaning away from braille and going to audio and screen reading technology. Again, personal preference. But what strikes me as the most concerning is that braille holds such little importance to them. One of the analogies or similes I like to use is "Braille
is to us as print is to the sighted." The sighted are constantly reading print, be it on street signs, apps, newspapers, books, etc. You could, however, make an argument here that they have the choice of audio, which they do, but in day to day life that's not practical.  I'd like to further expand upon this. From the beginning I have made it appear as if blind people are braille illiterate. Quite the contrary, most aren't, they just don't read it as much. But the main issue I have with not using braille is this: How does it affect your spelling?WAIT! STOP! DON'T GO! This is not grammar Nazi Dragomier at your service. This is where I bring the two communities into one final point.  The sighted, as I have said, read print all the time. Because that's what's practical. And, as a result, their spelling is better. Some may disagree on this. Some may ask me to provide proof. Which, if this sparks a debate, (note the word
debate, not flame war), then I will, but for now I'm diverging from the foint. I've noticed a rapidly degrading quality of spelling among the blind community, be it through the excusable dictation features (which are finnicky at best), or just because they don't see the words writen, per se. I'm not so arrogant as to say I never make the stupid mistakes, such as putting two p's in proper or two t's in writen, but what my point will always return to is that if you examine a braille reader's type over a non-braille reader's, both parties being blind of course, you'll notice a mass difference.  My conclusion is simly a request: Tell me what you agree and disagree upon. I hope that a lively debate will come of this. And, again, apologies on my part are in order if I sound arrogant. That is not my goal in the least. Again, if you would, tell me what you think.

Re: The Effect of Cliches on a Story: A Writer's Inquiry

I will admit, Dragonlance is far more dismal than Forgotten Realms. After all, it is all about a world destroyed by magic and in the process of rebuilding and such. But that's not my point here. I like your article, Dark, and have been considering writing my own essay on the topic. But I ask this question mostly to better my writing habits. I'm about to go start a new story of mine, I just need to plot out my character.

The Effect of Cliches on a Story: A Writer's Inquiry

2017-10-16 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : Dragomier via Audiogames-reflector

The Effect of Cliches on a Story: A Writer's Inquiry

Hello everyone,As you may have deduced from the title of this topic, I am considering the effect of tropes, cliches, and other such plot devices in my writing. This all began last night, after I completed The Hero of Kendrickstone, (finally.) I saw that there was to be a sequel, so I went to look for one. I read a few reviews of the game, and they said the world was rather generic. And that struck me. Hard. Because I enjoy that sort of high fantasy. So, I wondered, what does that say about my writing? Are cliches a bad thing? Am I a simple-minded want-to-be fantasy author? These questions continue to trouble me, and I'd like to ask writers, film critics or just the casual observer of where you think cliches fit into movies, books, etc.

Hello, everyone. So, I initially thought that the Google Apps on my BrailleNote Touch would be sufficient enough to help me with my classes. As it happens, they are not, and I've come to accept I'll just need to use the web interface. Hello, everyone. I've done some thinking. Musing. I've let my thoughts orient themselves and yet... I am still sad. I feel unfulfilled. I feel alone where I shouldn't. I feel more confident in the end than I do in the journey leading up to it. I'm afraid. Plain and simple. And even though there will be many people helping... I still feel so damned isolated. I tried having a social life, but I've realized that I can't enjoy partying. I can't enjoy drunk people. I can't enjoy loud promiscuous types. I'm just... Contemplations of A Soon-to-be Adult

2017-09-19 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : Dragomier via Audiogames-reflector

Contemplations of A Soon-to-be Adult

Hello, everyone.  I have not posted about myself in many a month, and I'm ending that streak here, now. I'm seventeen years old. I'll be turning eighteen in three months. A huge milestone. I've been accepted to my choice college with scholarship, have my major chosen, and it looks like all is set to go... but then, my mind took me places and my contemplative side came out. And, with that, came this post. This question, before I post what I wrote on Facebook, is for the adults of the forum: Is it as challenging and terrifying as it all seems?  To me, this is a song of transition. A song of growing older, of growing wiser. But I look back, and the memories this song holds with it, and I'm man enough to admit I have to brush back a few tears. I'm going to miss this, the simple, childish innocence I no longer hold. The simplicity of life has fled with the years... And in ways that's a good thing. But, where once was confidence i
n the future now lies a great deal of trepidation. I can do this. I know that in my heart and my soul. Yet, I hold doubts. I hold fears. I hold the desperate nerve of someone looking into the uncertain. And while I find myself prepared for the future... I find myself dreading it at the same time. I've grown though. I've grown to accept the inevitable. I'll be pursued by these hardships. I'll be hounded doggedly by the demons I cannot shed with a simple number change. Yet I hold the ability to shove them aside. Strike them down. Will I, though? When the time comes, will I fight, or will I be defeated? I suppose that's all up to me.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sKH0lvDs8U

Hello everyone. So, as some of you may know, I've divulged in Twitter roleplay for the past 2 or so years. Recently, my girlfriend has made a Power Girl account and I need a character whom I could romantically link with her. I was suggested to be Val Zod Superman, but I could find very little info on him. I considered using my J'onn J'onzz account but I'm not sure about that one. One other thought I'd had was Black Adam and that seems to be where I'm sitting now. Sam, I see many flaws with this. While there is no issue in making an FTP server, it is rather risky to make a public one.As you said, this is a very easy way to distribute viruses. They are not your files, so people are constantly running the risk of infection. I believe that this should've been made private, with people who can be trusted. I've nothing else much to say, so I leave you with this: Rethink this, and make any necessary changes if you do indeed decide to change the status of the server.

I mainly use my iPhone for Netflix and music. Now, I know what you're thinking, the earphone jack is a huge part of that. But I also know when and where I can charge my phone and I'm prepared. As for accessibility, that's part of it, and to be honest I've not noticed many bugs other than some auto gain issues at times and the rotor issue, which are both easy to work around. I'm not blindly following Apple, I'm a Windows person myself, but their phones do what I need them to and that's enough for me.

Re: New IPhone september 16 2016

I have to put in my opinion on the situation I see here. Alright, keep in mind I'm not telling you it's required you buy an iPhone 7, cause let's face it, in today's financial situation, who has the cash unless you're with some program? What gets me is people were going to flip to Android in a heartbeat because of, granted a rather inconvenient design switch, and some voiceover issues. Now, granted, I do wish they'd fix the rotor issue, but you also have to remember that even with their new apps, they've coded in the spoken hints, so they have, in no way, forgotten about us. But again, those are the only two reasons I've seen you guys going against Apple, and I've been reading since about post 50. Now if you can tell me some other reasons you're disenchanted with Apple, I might be able to figure out why you'd want to flip to Android so quickly. Again, your choices are your own but it seems as though you were going to make a ha
sty platform switch because of two things. I'm expecting some reprimands because even I can see how foolish my post could be read as, but I've been watching from afar and again, I've only seen the earphone jack and the accessibility bugs as your issues.

And again, let me state, that an adapter is indeed included in the box.Secondly, they did not do this for looks, they did this to make the phone dust/water resistant.Third, yes, I will agree with you that bluetooth lags quite a bit, but I don't think that's an exclusive VoiceOver thing. When attempting to play A Blind Legend, and keep in mind I have VoiceOver off, with a Bluetooth headset, there was still a delay.Apple is not trying to lock us in in any way, shape or form. They are not making it required to purchase the new phone, like other companies have done, I.E. Gaming companies making it required to upgrade consoles
to be able to play certain games.Let me also add that in the box there are a set of wireless earbuds.Let me conclude by saying your opinion is still your own, but I hope this has cleared some of the fears, worries, and frustrations up a bit.

Re: New IPhone september 16 2016

Drak, if I can respectfully refute one of your claims above, you do not need to purchase the adapter, it is included in the box at no additional cost. I hate to appear as a shallow capitalist who will buy anything and everything, but I've done some in depth musings and considerations, and I do think I am willing to adapt. Maybe my post could have been worded alternatively, but I still think I can adapt to this change.

Re: New IPhone september 16 2016

I've not had the time to read through this whole topic, but I will say I am willing to upgrade to iPhone 7. I figure, we're all going to have to upgrade someday. Some Apple users might switch to Android but the ones that wish to stick with Apple will eventually have to get used to the lack of a normal earphone jack so why not get used to it now before other things are built upon it, thus making it harder to adapt to? That's doubtful though, because Apple would have to make it useful for people just coming to their service.

Re: Zombies vs unicorns

I quite enjoyed the book The Rising by Brian Keene, in which the zombies are actually Satan and his minions, technically, taking revenge upon the creator. What makes them more dangerous is the fact that they can use guns and drive cars and the like. As for unicorns, you may be right. In Simon R. Greene's Forest Kingdom Saga, book 1, there is a unicorn though he's not a prominent part of the story. In no way is he not there he's just not as prominently involved.
