Re: any recommendations for website hosting that isn't paid?

If by creation you mean construction of the pages etc then thats relatively fine. Its just making sure I have not only enough space etc, but also an easy way of accessing it from anywhere as I might need to add/modify on the go etc.Hopefully you can provide more information later.I know several forum members like robjoy use chyrp, which seems to only run on lynux but Im not exactly sure. If anyone could confirm this then it would be useful, as those kinds of platforms actually look ok in some respects.

Re: any recommendations for website hosting that isn't paid?

I am indeed on windows. The only reason I dont quite like the idea of these services is that you do have to pay. Not that Im against paying for anything, I simply just want to test out getting a site up and running, being able to control the content as and when I see fit. The issue as well is that there are so many dodgy looking web hosts that whilst appearing to offer free websites will make you pay for things later. This is why I wanted suggestions and ideas. The worst part is that the only accessible web host I could find at least is this one, which is apparently only available to those in the U.S.I might edit this post later to reflect any additionaly thoughts.

Re: any recommendations for website hosting that isn't paid?

@GhorthalonIm not saying whether I accept the offer or not, at least not at this fairly early stage in the process. Im just trying to understand how getting the site up and running would work, partly because I want the satisfaction of being able to say I got the site up and running myself.I have been looking at /nikola, curtacy of camlorne and it looks like an interesting direction, although I dont really know how to get it working at present. If camlorne has any advice on this matter it would be much appreciated.I understand that you need 2 things:A server: a place to store your files for your site.A domain: an address to redirect people to that server.I believe, curtacy of an earlier post on this topic, that Ive found my server - freehostingnoadds, but Im just having trouble finding a domain that
doesnt look even slightly dodgy.I actually wanted, as I stated earlier, to set up my own site and everything on my own as even though it would be a learning curve, I would, at least in theory, know how to do it in the future if I needed it and have the satisfaction of knowing my way round the various administrative pannels etc. What Im essentially asking is, how exactly would I modify my existing content if I went with your offer, for example, without going through you?In terms of the amount of space I need it most likely wont be much. Thanks again for the offer, its very generous of you.

Re: any recommendations for website hosting that isn't paid?

@GhorthalonThere are a couple of problems I would have with that:If I wanted to get more server space, I would have to go through you to ensure the transition goes smoothly. Not that I would really mind, but it would be mildly inconvenient if, say you were on holiday. The most pressing problem however, is that free dot tk domains require 25 unique hits every 90 days otherwise they are taken down. With a small website as it will be, it most likely wont get the hits it needs. This is why I wondered if anyone else had a guide to setting up a free domain and hosting, with a service similar to dot tk that doesnt have the hit limit...@roroIve looked at your website, but did you put html files into that? there wasnt much formatting like headings and such which I would like to have on any site for ease of navigation...Thanks for the help thus far.

Re: any recommendations for website hosting that isn't paid?

Ive been looking at more tutorials, but the problem seems to be more confusing than when I started. I dont mind having free hosting, even if the webspace is a little small. But what I really want to know is what order to set everything up in and whether there are any services where I can just upload html files directly and they appear as they are formatted.I know I keep bumping this topic but I just want a guide as to what I should do, as well as answers to my questions in post 22... if possible. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Nvda Cursor?

I wouldnt say this is about gaming, so could possibly be moved to the off topic room. What I believe youre looking for is most likely under section 5 of the manual, more specifically the sub-section 5.6.3. That whole section is probably worth a read, although Ill admit it had me rather confused until I finally got the hang of it.Perhaps someone else can give a good detailed explanation for those who dont know where to begin, as I cant really think how to begin explaining it myself.Hope that section advice does help though.

Re: any recommendations for website hosting that isn't paid?

Appologies for reviving this topic after a long time.I wondered about the following:Freehostingnoads:Can you just upload your html files straight to the server and theyll show up, or do you have to use a domain (such as .tk) and upload it to that? I@m a little confused. In reference to dot tk, I had a look and it doesnt seem a good idea since if you dont get 25 unique hits every 90 days, the free domains are taken down. Does anyone have any suggestions to solve this part of the puzzle? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: any recommendations for website hosting that isn't paid?

Thanks for the reply Tom. I know that hosting wouldnt be very expensive if done off of my own computer, but personally at this point in time I wouldnt exactly know where to begin. HTML is all fine and good but actually getting a 24/7 server up and running and registering a domain etc? Im not sure where to start.I also know that pelantas had a tutorial that explained where to get a free domain and other useful tips like that, in some kind of program. If anyone else has this tutorial, then it would be greatly appreciated if it could be uploaded, as I cant seem to find it anywhere.

Free web Hosting suggestions

I am aware that there is a topic on web hosting already in this room. However, I am not looking to pay. I would like an accessible free web host, where I could upload HTML pages and content etc. If I could tie an e-mail address into this site as well in a manner similar to Aprone (examplen...@websitename.com) or similar, it would be very useful.has anyone got any suggestions that would help here?thanks in advance.

The phrase FreeWebHosting comes under a spam filter, whereas the phrase web hosting doesnt... Could this possibly be fixed?
