Re: My friend has written a book

Thank you all for taking a look at this thread. For those who are interested, Victoria Leybourne is currently running a sale to coincide with the release of the new Beauty and the Beast movie. If you're tempted by the book then it might be worth another look. Also, she currently has a give-away on Good Reads. If you're feeling lucky, why not join it.

My friend has written a book

A friend of mine has published a novel today. It's a period romance set in 18th century Venice. The heroine is Cassanova's sister. It's a retelling of the fairy tale 'Beauty and the Beast'.It isn't usually my sort of thing but her writing style is light and funny and she's balanced the romance with a very good plot. The author's name is Victoria Leybourne and the book is called 'The Rose and the Mask: A Beauty and the Beast Retelling'.The book is available from most retailers and can be purchased in paperback or as an ebook. If anyone's interested, the amazon.com link is here:https://www.amazon.com/Rose-Mask-Beauty … d+the+mask

I used to watch DVDs on the computer with Windows Media Player in Windows 7.I tried to do the same with Windows 10 a few days ago and it brought up Windows DVD Player instead. I couldn't get it to play as I couldn't access the controls. Is there a way to use it or is there a better programme for watching DVDs with Windows?

Re: Curious about reasons for Brexit

@Dark, while I agree that neither side were exactly blameless in the matter of spin, it wasn't a member of the Remain party who shot and stabbed an MP on a public street with a shout of "for Britain!". It's undisputed acts of mindless aggression like that, actually murdering people in cold blood, that gives the Leave party its xenophobic shadow.I'd also argue that leaving the EU won't actually help with burocracy and Capitalism in the world of business and industry. You really think that America, your current home, is without its ruthless and exploitative Capitalists? For most of the 20th century, it was the go-to stereotypical country for them. I just think that Britain's petty isolationism won't help our economy or our legal system at all. I think it will just make us look petulent and desperate and we won't be invited to join future trade deals because we're a small island, with too many people, and very little of our tra
ditional industries to contribute to the world. As for the border between northern and southern Ireland, it's quite possibly a valid point that it will need to be changed. It's not disputed that they're separate countries but it is a fact that relaxation of border controls within the EU will not, strictly speaking, apply on that border any longer, once Britain leaves the EU.

Re: Curious about reasons for Brexit

I voted to remain, as did very nearly half of the UK. For me, the frustrating thing about the referendum is actually the people who now say that it isn't fair and that they only voted to leave as a reaction to dissatisfaction with British politics at the moment. I accept that the media is good at finding most extreme examples, but I even heard one story about a woman who voted to leave because she was unhappy with how her local (yes, local) government officials handled the closing of a public toilet. It seems that the leave campaign was primarily motivated by fear, prejudice and a lack of understanding, while the remain campaign seemed to focus more on the actual statistics and pros and cons of what leaving the EU means for people. It's also worth remembering that EU legislation hasn't been all bad for British people. Working time and fair wage policies have improved working conditions in some ways. Also, I think that independence will lower Britain's pol
itical influence in the world. This desire for defended borders, and sense of national superiority, will just isolate us. Still, these are just my opinions.

I really like Terry Brooks' world and history, particularly the well-established Shannara series. His take on elves, magic and demons is pretty individual. His writing style does feel a little uncomplicated though. Then again, I'd say the same about David Eddings, even though his stories and worlds are very well developed. He's definitely someone to check out if you want multiple-book fantasy serieses.I would also recommend David Gemmell. His characters seem more clearly defined and he gets more into the action and psychology than David Eddings, who - in my opinion - likes dialogue and historical exposition more.

Accessible board game and roleplaying dice kickstarter by 64oz Games

Hi,The wonderful company, 64oz Games, have been producing kits to make many card and board games accessible for a couple of years now. They currently have a kickstarter running to fund the production of a complete set of the different shaped dice used in roleplaying games such as Dungeons & Dragons and World of Darkness. As someone who has been roleplaying for over a quarter of a century, and pining for accessible dice, I wanted to bring this project to the attention of this community. The kickstarter has stretch goals based on social media profiling as well, so you don't even need to give them money to support them.Nevertheless, I feel that making board and card games of all kinds, even some pretty obscure ones, accessible is a wonderful thing that we should be encouraging as a group. I don't work for the company, or have anything to do with them, but I'm really keen to promote their work as a self-confessed gamer geek. The project page on kickstarter can be found here:https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/64 … escriptionIt has around 10 days to run, as of the original date of this post.If you want more information about the company and their current product ranges, the 64oz Games home page can be found here:http://www.64ouncegames.com/

Re: book suggestion for someone who was blown away by wheel of time and th

This might seem obvious but have you read Tolkien? The Silmarillion is a bit heavy but may be worth a go, especially if you've waded through the whole Wheel of Time series. The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, of course, need no introduction. There's also the Dragon Riders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. There are a hell of a lot of these but they're fantastic.Bernard Cornwell is quite a dark writer of historical fiction but he weaves a kind of magic, religion and superstition into them. Stonehenge is a good stand-alone one and his King Arthur trilogy are really good. He also has a series set in Viking era England. The first of these is called The Burning Land. There are 8 out so far and I think the series is reaching its conclusion. If you like a bit more fantasy mixed with history, the King Arthur theme can be explored further. The Once and Future King by T. H. White is very good. It's a stand alone book but pretty long.Have you r
ead any books based on the various Dungeons & Dragons themed worlds? Pretty much anything by R. A. Salvador should be a good place to start here. If you want monsters and magic then looking at the Dungeons & Dragons fiction back catalogue is certainly the way to go. Some series' and authors are of varying quality but most of the books are pretty easy to get into and don't have particularly intense or bewildering plots.

Re: Books by Stephen King

Stephen King was probably the horror author that first properly "scared" me in my very early teens. I do think he's quite good at psychology as opposed to relying on blood and guts for his frights.I think the Mist is probably my favourite King story because of the lovecraftian feel it has. Also, the fact that the supermarket actually was the extent of the world to those trapped inside it comes across really well. The characters do lose their grip pretty quickly though and are rather single minded in the roles they're supposed to fulfill. Also, how come the main character and the woman he meats go off to the manager's office for some - ahem - "time alone together", yet the first thing he does when he leaves is try to get back to his wife. I'm not a fan of infidelity.I think Clive Barker is possibly one of my favourite modern horror writers. He's got the right mix of gore and psychology in his stories and I feel he explores
different thems to some of Stephen King's more traditional ones.I also like that modern horror doesn't even need to identify the monster nowadays. I met a fantastic book of modern lovecraftian horror stories and not one of them actually had a named monster or specific entity to blame. There was just weirdness and terror and no happy ending.

Re: Back To The Future Discussion Topic

My girlfriend and I watched the second film on "back to the future day". I completely agree that Jennifer should either have just not been in it or should have actively participated. Also, how dumb is Marty Mcfly? Jennifer gets one brief scene hiding in a closet in her future home and she understands straight away. Marty remains clueless for like 3 whole films. Also, despite just how many times it gets him into trouble, why does he flatly refuse to deal with the fact that it is sometimes alright for somebody to call him chicken. These are the kind of things that made the films very quickly become pastiches of themselves. They're tremendous fun though, hence why they refuse to fade into insignificance like so many of the 1980s sci-fi films.Regarding the future arriving, I think we're getting kind of immune to that nowadays. I remember, in August 1997, waiting for the nuclear war that was supposed to happen in the Terminator timeline. I was most disappoint
ed when I had to have a bath and go to bed after all. Too much sci-fi has been set in the last 20 years or so and has proven wildly inaccurate. I saw a really good documentary once that discussed this very fact, especially thinking about the ever-famous hover-car which the 1970s were so fond of. There seems to be a theory among academics that these things don't catch on for the simple fact that they're not practical or time-saving. Back to the Future II still has air-based traffic jams, according to Doc Brown, and even in Star Wars and any number of other flying vehicle sci-fi, they often crash. Crashes would be far more serious since gravity as well as collision speed would have a part to play. Can you imagine driver insurance premiums? Smart phones, something that are probably beyond the dreams of much sci-fi which should now be happening, caught on because they're so practical and convenient. They save time, help with communication and organisation, are easy to use
and carry and don't require crazy special training or an extra element of death. That's why the Apple Watch replaces the hover skateboard as the 2015 must-have gadget.

Re: Halloween party playlist

I want there to be funny and upbeat songs to catch people's attention and become talking points, even if it's just unanymous ridiculing. Nearly everyone will be quite happy with pretty much any genre of music so there will be some fairly dark metal and goth stuff as well as things from musicals (like the Phantom of the Opera overture and one of the tracks from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds).Keep the suggestions coming though, especially those quirky ones.

Halloween party playlist

So here's a bit of fun:I'm having a halloween party and trying to find music of all genres to make a playlist. I want songs themed around halloween but not necessarily all really heavy metal as my guests have a very wide range of musical interests. I have plenty of ideas of my own but it seemed like fun to throw this open for others to make suggestions. So far my choices range from Bad Blood by Taylor Swift right up to Funeral in Carpathia by Cradle of Filth. On the way they pass Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, Bad Moon Rising by Credence Clearwater Revival and the theme tunes for the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the films The Lost Boys and Ghostbusters.Your turn...

Hi,I'm just getting into recording and Audacity is my sound editor of choice. I want to make game recordings, both for myself and to share. Can someone please tell me how I can get Audacity to record my computer and voice simultaneously? For example, if I'm playing Swamp and want to comment or explain as I go.Thanks in advance.

Request for help with Audacity recording levels

Hi,Im trying to record with the Audacity program on a Windows 7 desktop PC. Im new to Audacity and to many of the concepts of detailed sound recording. When I try to record it seems that Audacity takes it on itself to lower the level of my microphone so that it starts out fairly clear but then becomes quieter and more muffled. What Im trying to record includes spoken words and some singing and its the singing that has the most impact. Im just trying to record a single track and not mix in any instruments or anything. My microphone is recognised by Windows and Audacity and I can set the levels for it in the Windows control panel. It just seems that this doesnt help much when Im trying to record with Audacity. Please can someone help me to sort out the recording levels for Audacity? Im also happy to receive any general advice about recording with a computer. Thanks,Carl

Re: Monthly chat October

Im going to stick up for the Braille slate here. I completely agree that it isnt particularly relevant in most western countries but even when I was at school in Worcester, where every class had a dozen Perkins braillers, we had a visitor from a school in Africa where slates were all the children had for writing Braille. Also, we shouldnt forget that they were how Braille was written by hand for decades. They may be an old skill but why do people still learn blacksmithing when we have factories? Why do they still learn flint knapping or how to make dry stone walls? Its because its still a skill. Braille is revolutionary in the levels of accessibility it gave blind people and we shouldnt forget its roots. Maybe this should be voluntary though and not the key part of an 8 week programme.@Dark, Im quite out of touch with the Big Finish stories but I love cybermen and the idea of a story where Jamie and Rob Roy get all physical wi
th broadswords is wonderful. What precisely are those stories called because I fully intend to get them. I also got interested in the idea of the dalek and cyberman empire spin off serieses. You suggested they are really good. Is that right?I dont think Consider Phlebas is entirely representative of Iain Banks Culture stories. Its way, way more action-packed than lots of the others. Most of the rest of them are far more involved with the Culture itself rather than dealing with the war with the idirans from a soldiers perspective. Like his other fiction, the series is really political and inciteful. He was a splendid writer!

@Lauren, its great to see youre still around. Ive not been on Swamp much myself lately but your absence is noted. I was at RNIB New College Worcester for a couple of years back in the early 90s. I went on to mainstream school, which worked better for me, but I seem to remember having fun and making good friends in Worcester.@Tward, commiserations on your divorce. Mine only came through a month or so ago. I was lucky because there was no property to sort out and no children to worry about but even that took like 6 months. Just hang in there is all I can say.Last weekend I went to visit family in Hastings. I bought a replica flintlock pistol which is really fun for sound effects and prancing around my house alone pretending to be a highway man. Yep, I have a full and hectic schedule!Im also trying to find a new job. My current one runs out in December and Im not sure what I want to do next as a career.I really enjoy the Big F
inish Dr Who stories. The sound quality is excellent and they can do so much more inventive stuff with the aliens when all it takes is a splodgy sound effect or two. I also like how theyre being innovative with sound as well and arent afraid to let the sound effects tell the stories. Some of my favourite episodes are Winter of the Adept and Land of the Dead, both with the 5th doctor and Nisa; one with the 7th doctor and Ace where they defeat creatures called The Scourge during a cross stitch conference in a hotel; and a wonderful episode called the Apocalypse Element which has a proper battle between Timelords and Daleks.

Re: Are these kind of behaviours weird and/or childish?

People grow up at different speeds and thats something that you just cant change. In terms of cartoons, what happens to most people is that they start to think that cartoons are rubbish and childish when they are teenagers because they want to look grown up to people around them. Being a teenager is the time when you want to prove to adults that you can be like them but you always make mistakes because thats the point of learning. Nearly everyone I know, from teenagers up to aged 86, enjoy playing games and watching cartoons. When you are an adult you learn that what you like is up to you and not a choice you make because you think people might judge you. I really like the singing voice of the singer Rihanna. When she first got famous I was really into heavy metal and rock music and I wouldnt listen to her because my friends thought she was rubbish. I took the time to hear her music and now I tell anyone that I enjoy them. This doesnt make me stupid o
r wrong because I listen to Rihanna and heavy metal music, it makes me confident about who I am and what I like.Having said this, its also important for people to accept you the way you are. If people actually tell me Im stupid for liking Rihanna then I ask them why. Why am I stupid? Why are the millions of other people in the world who buy her albums stupid? Why am I stupid for playing roleplaying games like millions of other people in the world? The answer is that Im not but that the person who tells me I am is not as confident as me about the things he/she likes and thinks he/she should have an opinion because somebody he/she knows has the same opinion and they want to impress that person.Regarding the friend who fantasises about other guys, thats entirely his choice and he should not be judged for it. He cant help this. There are millions of other people out there just like him. I think hes probably telling you about this because
he needs to test how much these feelings are real. If he is told he is stupid and he realises he is then it will pass. If he is told he is stupid and wrong but the feelings dont go away then they probably wont. Hes quite entitled to like people of the same sex if he wants because there are many, many people of the same sex who will like him back.Fantasising about smelling feet and beating people up isnt common but it does happen. I really dont recommend that anybody does this but the internet is full of all kinds of crazy stuff if you search. People are attracted to having people go to the toilet on them. To being tied up and whipped. To having their feet licked. The most important thing is that if 2 people want to do something to each other then that is up to them, as long as it is legal, safe and they really want to do it. Smelling feet is not against the law. Beating people up is and its important that your friend realises that hurting
people is wrong. Even so, there are other people than him who find the idea of pain sexy. He might find other guys out there who want to have some kind of experience like that and that is kind of up to them. Its also perfectly normal to fantasise about people you know. I was completely in love with a girl at my work for absoultely years. I was married when I first met her and so was she. She and her husband have just had a baby. The point is that nothing ever happened between us and it never will. I know that and I wouldnt ever want to stop being friends with her and break up her marriage by trying to make something happen. It doesnt mean I cant imagine being with her though. Its just the same as pretending to be a famous person when playing a game as a child or wanting to fall in love with a famous singer. Everybody does it and theres nothing wrong, as long as it doesnt become an obsession and that you realise its just something
fun in your head for you to enjoy. Sharing it all the time just makes people uncomfortable.

Yes, they do have a tendency to just abandon products. There are so many things Id love to get hold of but which arent available. They used to have this crossword kit that had a board, kind of like Braille scrabble, but that you put these cubes in with the letters on. You could then make your own crosswords in Braille and play them from magazines. Id dearly love one but you just cant find them anywhere nowadays.

Re: A fantastic resource on how to have a lovelife for guys in poticular!

I put my blindness on my profile. I know its frustrating but a person who rejects you on the basis of that one fact, which is totally beyond your control, is somebody you probably didnt want to know in the first place.Having said that, there is a way to handle it. Dont lead with the blindness on your description. If thats the first thing someone sees (pardon the pun), thats what theyll immediately make the deciion on. Talk about yourself a bit first so women can see that youre a normal person with a disability rather than a disabled person trying to be normal. If someone thinks oh [[wow]], this guy likes the same books and music as me and is an animal enthusiast and good cook to boot. The fact that youre blind will be noticed but will be a lower ranking factor than the connection on hobbies, interest and personalities. Also, focus on what you can do. Dont say that youre blind and that that means y
ou need help with this and that. Say that youre blind but that ladies shouldnt panic because you manage cooking and housework better than most men who can see, or something like that. Make it a kind of joke or something that youre comfortable with and have overcome. If youre comfortable with it, and that comes across in your profile, prospective dates will be cool with it as well.It may well put people off but at least you wont know because they wont have contacted you in the first place. What you dont know cant hurt you, remember, so it will always feel worse to be knocked back by a woman who feels lied to through no fault of your own than just not getting as many messages from people you quite frankly probably dont want to hear from in the first place.

Dudes, just be yourselves! Ive had both long and short relationships. Ive pulled at parties, used online dating, got girlfriends at school and work and had relationships with people I met for the purpose or knew already. The way I did it was to be myself. The thing that is guaranteed to get a woman more than all this love ninja stuff is a guy who is content to be himself. If youre relaxed and genuine, and your lady can see that, she will respond far better than if you try all the smooth lines and special touching in the world. Before any responds, please realise that this is meant to be advice. Im not judging anyone elses approach but this is, in my opinion, the number one way to find a girlfriend.

Im 30 and Im an advocate of online dating. You can search by criteria like hobbies a person is into, set age limits or distance from your home address and even judge by how they describe themselves if physical attractiveness is that important to you. The most important thing with online dating though is patience. Women on dating sites always get spammed by sleezy guys asking for sex or trying to be macho so the way to combat that is to be normal. Read through profiles and find out what you and the other person have in common so you can message them about something genuine. You may have to message loads of people and it may take months to find people in your area but many sites let you see the people who have viewed your profile so you can see who liked what you said about yourself, even if they didnt message you afterwards.

That was nearly 20 years ago and I can still read Braille and play guitar perfectly well with my left hand. A tutor could be good but expensive but a friend is better since theyll teach you in a more informal way if thats what you prefer.I actually strongly recommend using youtube. Some of the videos arent accessible but others are extremely good, especially for classical and folk playing.Ive been playing for 17 years now and Ive used all these methods to learn different techniques. Just try to learn some basic chords and practice them to start with to get your fingers stronger and toughen up your fingertips. Classical guitars with nylon strings are easier on the fingers to start than a steel-strung one but it can still be pretty rough if you dont persever.URL: http://forum.audiogam

Re: eBooks And PDF

I usually use PDFs for ebooks but I convert them to text. Acrobat reader has a built-in option to save the file as a .txt version. Personally I find this works because Acrobat Reader struggles with very big files and many novels, and the rulebooks for roleplaying games, which I read the most just make Acrobat Reader crash if you try to open them all at once.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=177599#p177599

Re: Girls at school harder 2 get than ones Outside of School?

The first problem is thinking of a girl as something to get. How about meet? I was blind in highschool as well but I did this crazy thing called talking to girls as friends and seeing where it led. A poster earlier on talked about highschool girls being young and immature; you should see highschool boys! Also, you cant just say that someone will react in a certain way because of where you meet them. There will be girls in your highschool who will get on excellently with you, you just havent met them. Get a hobby and meet people who share your enthusiasm with it. You never know where that friendship might lead. Its just really important to not immediately evaluate every girl you meet as a piece of meat you can do. Theyre people and theyre not stupid. If they meet a penis with a boy plodding along behind it, whether he can see or not, theyre going to be turned right off from the start.Im sure many p
eople will think this post is boring and unhelpful. The only defense Im prepared to give is that Ill be proved right by most of you by the time youre 30.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=177601#p177601

Re: How can I decrease my stupidity?

None of those examples sound stupid. On the internet a lot of insecure people hide behind their characters and call people names just because they know there will be no backlash. If somebody thinks youre stupid because he was impatient, think about the fact that he was the one who died without checking he had a radiation suit. Especially on the internet, people are playing a specific game or talking on a forum with a specific theme. Just because someone can play Alter Aeon, doesnt mean he can do mental arithmetic or name the capital cities of 100 countries. Its easy to call somebody stupid but remember that they dont know the real you or anything about you. These offhand, insulting comments that people make on the internet are likely to have more of an impact on you at the age of 14 because thats when you want to start feeling accepted by adult society so you can start becoming one. This means that criticism is more likely to have a larger impac
t on your self-confidence. You just need to remember that the internet isnt real life. The people who know and care for you wont call you stupid and mean it, theyll just be joking. Theyre the people whose opinions you should care about since theyre the friends and family youll have for the rest of your life. Some internet jerk who has nothing better to do than judge you for being newer than him at playing a computer game is definitely not worth talking to.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=176313#p176313

Then learn to get around it. Learn about filtering and boiling water. Make better use of scavenged supplies first. Find a way to test the soil. Grow smaller supplies of things with compost taken from garden stores. Think laterally or you might as well give up right away.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=175978#p175978

Re: surviving an apocalypse...

Learning is definitely the key. Read as much as you can. Learn the deaf-blind sign language system and teach it to others so that you can communicate that knowledge. Attend courses on cooking, first aid, survival and other practical skills. Do these things now so that youre ready. Wishing youd bothered wont help you once civilisation has broken down. Practise these new skills so that you can confidently teach or use them when it counts.Learn how to get around in your local area. Dont just learn how to get to the places you use now but make sure you are aware of what you pass on the way. The camping store you dont care about now may have just what you need after an apocalypse. Your local corner shop may just have a few bits of food and drink which could be the difference between life and death. If you can get there you already have a better chance than if you just sit at home and starve.I dont like the level of dependence on technol
ogy which blind people have so I like to find alternative ways of doing things. I collect and read non-fiction Braille books so that I have reference material at home which I can access if the electricity goes. I like to learn and read about first aid and survival and have actively worked to learn how to cook on camping stoves or over fires. Its also worth thinking about what use you could be back at base. True, as Aprone says, you may not be able to go out and scavenge but you can chop wood (I learned how, in any case), mend clothes, prepare food, even hold nails in place while somebody else is repairing something. The more positive and active you are, the more likely you are to be accepted, included and valued as a member of the team. If you go into a situation like that making yourself dead weight then youre most likely going to stay that way.I kind of focussed on a more farfetched zombie apocalypse scenario for most of my survival panics. In that case I
already thought about wrapping my white cane in cloth so that I can still use it to keep safe on the streets, which will most likely have more obstacles in that chaotic scenario, but it wont make a noise as it clatters off of lamp posts and cars.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=175887#p175887

Re: surviving an apocalypse...

Surviving an apocalypse is all about making a new society and not rebuilding the old. Thats why its important that attitudes towards gender, race, disability and all of those things start off correctly. If people are considered useless or put into specific roles right from the start, we will end up creating the same society as we have already. For thousands of years people have fought over race and religion; people have fought for equality; people have not learned. Its up to everyone to prove his or her worth in times of trial because thats how he or she will establish a place in whatever new society we end up with. Hmm, that got rather more moral than I anticipated. Sorry.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=175895#p175895

Re: How do you break that addiction?

Ive had times in the past where Ive been adicted to games. I remember the day I found Swamp I took a day off work and literally played all through the night and the next day. I only went to bed when my housemate came home and made me because I literally couldnt speak properly. That was because I find new games exciting and thrilling and because I want to learn what happens next and make sure I can play them properly. I dont play them to become the best, especially to show off to other players. I agree with Dark that it sounds like youre playing games for the wrong reason.I would originally have said that maybe its just a phase. Eventually you will either mess up so bad or youll just get bored and the MUD wont seem quite so important any more. You could try to tough it out until then. On the other hand, playing so aggressively isnt helping anybody, least of all yourself. The only one who can stop playing is you. If
you dont want to stop then none of our advice will help. If you really want to stop then stop playing. You said yourself that the reasons you gave didnt feel good enough. Either find a good enough reason or recognise that you need help. We cant change your life for you but we can support you to do it for yourself.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=175896#p175896

Re: what do you fear of?

When I was a child I was frightened of toilets. I think it started with this creepy Toilet Man monster from the film Look Whos Talking. It really freaked me out though and I used to literally run away from the toilet when it made the sort of gurgling sounds of the chain flushing.I also get really nervous of wasps and other flying insects. I just dont see why they need to get all in your face. Ive not been stung yet so Im strangely worried that Ill have an allergy. I dont have an allergy to anything else though. Re: How do you break that addiction?

Im sorry if I wasnt clear. I have experience of addictions myself - the harmful kind, not just a new thing to obsess over - and I can honestly say that the only thing that can really straighten you out is wanting that to happen. Thousands of heroin addicts only take methadone on state sponsored rehab programmes because its cheaper than buying the drugs they can get illegally, the same goes for many of those who have difficulty giving up smoking or stopping drinking alcohol. The point of an addiction is that it consumes your life. Its all you want to do. From what Ive seen, and from personal experience, it seems to me that all the therapy in the world wont stop you if you dont want to stop. The people who still smoke cigarettes through holes in their neck do so because nothing is more important to them than that fix. They know its killing them but they dont feel that that is important enough to stop. That
s why I would advise that a way to beat this gaming addiction is to find a reason to do so which is important enough to matter. Clearly a girlfriend or schoolwork are not strong enough reasons. I wonder whether the route cause of this need to succeed and be better stems from some other issue, maybe a complex from bad experiences with school, family or hobbies in the past, which need to be explored. Maybe one of these areas is something which needs to be changed. As Dark said, an addiction is most likely a symptom of something else and not the problem itself.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=175911#p175911
