I'm not sure, maybe someone will make it since there are a lot of GBA SoundFonts in Musical Artifacts (the majority of them were ripped using GBAMusRiper).

Since this thread is SoundFont-related, I'm here to present you, my Super Mario Advance 4 SoundFont.I started to do this a few days ago, but y finally completed it. I am quite proud of this one, since everything was done by me without help, and this includes the sample data ripping, loop points (yeah, my biggest weakness when it comes to sound and sample editing) envelopes, etc.Download it here. Be sure to read the description. Enjoy!

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

I've finished the FPD/FPD95 SoundFont, but honestly you don't miss a thing, since all the presets only have one sample. The advantage with it, is that maybe you can hear some similarities with SNES games (specially the acoustic piano) and say things like "oh, I've hear this sound maaany times!" . Download. You'll notice that some presets have the same instrument, well it's like the original thing. FPD for PC-98 computers has the same config file as FPD95 for Windows 95, so I managed to build the SoundFont from there. It has only one drumkit.BTW, since I mentioned the snare and clap used in Sonic 3 & Knuckles games, these come from the KORG 01/W. Good luck finding a drumkit sample pack.

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

I can upload it, but it is incomplete.Oh, and a brief story about FPD.Frostforest PCM Driver (also known as FPD for MS-DOS) is a freeware MIDI software synthesizer for NEC PC-98 computers made by Hideki Fujii (alias MKR, the representative of the doujin circle Frostforest), Akito Monden (alias Monden, a member of Frostforest) and Hisayasu Kuroda. It has the same features I descrived in post 1. It was shareware, but after some time, they decided to go further and in anticipation of Windows 95, they ported it to Windows, and it became freeware. The Windows 95/98/etc. versions would come being FPD95 (first Windows port, and equivalent to the original FPD for PC-98) after FPD97 (new set of PCM tone waveform data, which is the set used in FPD98 by default) and FPD98 which is the last in the series. Since FPD95, it's shareware until today (that's insane if you ask me).

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

I did a significant progress in the SoundFont, and I'd say it's pretty forgettable, I don't think it's worth to upload in Musical Artifacts; but maybe I later change my mind. The majoryty of the samples are in 44.1kHz, though.BTW, since FPD98 allows you to customize the envelopes of the FPV tone waveforms, you can do it in the SoundFont, for presets that (by default) don't have a decent envelope, i.e. some pads (the majority actually ). FPD98 only allows 2 layers to be used for MIDI programs (it's called multisample in the config file of the softsynth) for example the 2nd preset (Hammer Piano) has two instruments (layers). I hope someone has understood.

I apologise. It looks like there are options to combat the lag and that it was a feature for lower-end machines. If this works as intended, go with that.

@Dekyo, I'd love to be able to use VirtualMIDISynth but it has too much lag for my liking. Also, what are these bugs in Bass MIDI you speak of? It works fine for me running under Windows 10 1909 though you do have to install the thing with recommended compatibility settings.

I personally don't recommend BASSMIDI Driver, as it is discontinued and it has some bugs. I recommend VirtualMIDISynth (it also uses the BASSMIDI library) but it is actively being developed.

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

@ashleygrobler04, Think of a soundfont as a sort of bank of instruments. I'm not going to go into detail but file types of soundfonts include SF2, SF3, SFZ, SFLIST, SFARK and SFPACK. Don't worry about what they mean too much. Just know that SFARK and SFPACK are archives and need to be extracted using either SFARK or SFPACK. Otherwise, you'll usually be using the SF2 extension, which is just a soundfont. To use it, you need to install a soundfont player. I suggest Bass MIDI as it is simple, free and accessible. If you can't find a good version, I'll provide a link to an installer. Next, you need to use a DAW or MIDI sequencer that can take advantage of ports. I use QWS as I don't know how to use Reaper and QWS is free (though being a MIDI sequencer you need to have soundfonts at hand). Once you've got those, you just need some soundfonts. I can upload my entire collection but you could also look around the Internet for free soundfonts. Just keep digging.Hopefully that gave you a brief intro though I am by no means an expert on this either.

I'd love to hear that! I always thought the snare in the standard kit sounded a bit capcom-ish. the square wave (000:080) also resembles the one used by the beatnic audio engine for pc, which is used by the java sound API.

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

Minor update released yesterday: The preset 020 "Positive" is one octave lower, according to the original softsynth. Oh, and in case someone didn't notice, the snare of the standard kit ("GM Kit", preset 128:000, key D in octave 4) is the snare used in Sonic the hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, the clap and even other drums were used in that game (clap is D# in octave 4). A great discovery. Of course these drum samples come from a KORG synth but I don't know for sure. Also, FPD98 has 2 folders with FPV tone waveforms, this SoundFonts is based in the waveforms that comes in the PCM97 folder. Old versions of this softsynth (called "Frostforest PCM Driver", or FPD95) has some different tone waveforms, they are still present in FPD98, they can be found in the PCM95 folder. I wonder if I should make a SoundFont of those too (I'm not quite sure, but it includes a single waveform for each preset) since I don't know how the tone waveforms are set (in terms of sample settings such as custom envelopes or even vibrato) in FPD95, or FPD for PC-98 computers, I'd have to do it by speculation.

yes, all 127 melodic instruments and a full drum kit. the loop points seam to have been directly ported from the fasttracker instrument files.

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

I actually had someone do a soundfont of the OPL4 after finding the instrument samples in fastttracker instrument format (a format not really useful in modurn daws). I can link you dt the OPL4 soundfont if you want. the link I'll send out isn't the original, that one is long dead, so I mirrored it.

how about the emulator ones then? not only was that sample based, it was also one of the first (proceeded only by fairlight CMI, I think). I mentioned the m1 specificly because Carson cunningham is working on a soundfont bsed on the synths used in a certain tv show that aired on 4/6/1992, and one of the composers used an m1 (and also emulator and proteus 2, that last one is quite prominent in the music). he also used roland r-8 and sc55 in later episodes he worked on. his successor used proteus 1.

As long as these synths don't use specific/advanced quirks and techniques like Casio keyboards (special algorythm modulations, random LFOs, exclusive capabilities of the sample-based engine, different envelope waveforms, etc.) can be replicated in SoundFont format. Also, I want to make a Yamaha TG100 SoundFont, since vampirefrog from the VGMRips forum dumped the ROMs of it. Unfortunately, I have no clue on how to start, since...I have the samples, but I do not have a table with loop points, which I need. I know vampirefrog provided some spreadsheets, but I don't have any ODS reader.Even if I have the loop points, I don't have a real Yamaha TG100 module to hear the sounds, and replicate the envelopes and split zones of each preset. With FPD98, I could replicate these because I played the FPV waveforms through the editor.PS: I'm not quite interested in the KORG M1 and Polysyx dumps, since the KORG Legacy Kollection has these two and more. I say this to the Roland dumps as well. Also, I only can make SoundFont from ROM dumps which are sample-based, not analog-based like the Polysix and the like.

hay dekyo, it looks like the ROMs of some of UPC831's synthesisers were recently dumped. We'd just have to extract the samples and then I suppose they could be made into soundfonts. these include various synths from e-mu (emulator mostly, surprisingly no proteus rom dumps exist yet), Kawai, korg (m1, polysix) and roland (tr707, surprisingly no tr808 or 909).

I supose that you can find some remixes and original music by searching some terms (with quotes included) such as "deflemask" "tg-16", or "deflemask" "pce". You also can find some other things (if you're lucky) by searching "husic" "mml" and related things. You just need to think a little bit.

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

Well I must admit, the SoundFont sounds decent, but FPD98's software effector (compatible with MIDI CCs such as reverb, chorus, etc.) is very different than BASSMIDI's effector, and that's the exclusive flavor of the original soft synth. Besides, FPD98 is compatible with MMX technology, so if your CPU supports that, you can enhance the sound overall.

You not are the only one who know it, I also know it (it also came bundled with Onkyo products). But it's very obscure. Faith was the company who developed various online Karaoke systems, one of them is LANA Online City, developed jointly with Casio Computer Co. did you know the SW-10 that came bundled with the LANA Lite program, was a part of a limited offer (a kind of campaign)?I downloaded the WebSynth D-77 for Windows 2000 and unfortunately didn't worked in this system. I will have to install it in my Windows 98SE virtual machine. (22kHz output ).BTW, has anyone tried something like Microsoft's Virtual PC software to create a Windows 98 virtual machine? Maybe the sound emulation supports a different sound card driver with 44.1kHz output.Edit: 501 downloads of my SoundFont.

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

The SA-10 SoundFont sadly is not complete, and it needs some work for simulating things like that reverb you can hear in the majority of presets (indeed I did a simulation of it in a SoundFont) because those Casio SA-series  uses echo and reverb simulated by envelope, not a DSP hardware. I'm a little bit intrigued about the algorythm used in these toy keyboards, mainly the envelope and how even an interpolation method was used to avoid that aliasing or artifacts that you can hear in lo-fi chips (for example the Ricoh RF5C68).Also, yeah, I know the GZ-series (though there's differences in the GZ-50M and the GZ-70SP) but I don't know if I could get upc831 to record the sounds for me (I commented in some of his videos).

I was wondering if maybe you could get UPC831 to record his old casio midi modules. the gz series which has a similar rom to the sw10, and the csm 1 which is a midi module version of the casio mt670 and it's varients.

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

Short answer: No.Long and detailed answer:The two BIOS of the console are used for the internal thermal printer and the second is used for the Magical Shop: Video Seal Word Processor add-on. The sample ROM is inside the CPU of the console, and that still has not been dumped (dumped means copied) from the hardware. I have all the games and BIOS of the console. But as I said before, this console uses the same sounds than the Casio CT-670 or MT-750 and its variants (you can check on YouTube), so I need a keyboard like those and sample it, no longer need a console. Someone dumped (copied) the ROM of the Casio MT-750, where the samples and its data are stored (sample ROM); various Casio keyboards that uses samples for the sounds, have a sample ROM that is encoded, like the Casio SW-10; so even if I had the sample ROM encoded, wouldn't be much use if I didn't have it decoded. Otherwise I have to buy a keyboard, conect it through the audio output to the computer and sample it that way. The author of the Casio CT-370 SoundFont did it that way. Of course I don't have money to buy one .
