Re: Appreciating spoonbill's BG games series

I can't claim my hearts game was that good, I shot the moon  once, and finished up with fourteen points while the other three players were all 80 plus, still nice to get back into the swing of things.Btw, will be fixing the rest of the BG games in the database this week. Actually, after looking at a few things about solitaire I'm considering whether I should perhaps give freecell another look, since that one at least seems logical, and unlike the other solitaire varients, is apparently possible to win.

When I recently played heards, the game lasted only for about 6 rounds, I shot the moon at least twice and earned only a single point in the first deal.Hazel's quality is good as you said.

Re: Appreciating spoonbill's BG games series

Okay as people will gather, I've been sorting out the BG games in the db, both improving the quality of their descriptions, fixing the download links, since Ian Humphries  seems to have moved the hosting from dropbox to google drive,  and removing those mailto links as well. I also played BG Hearts again, and this time completely slaughtered the computer, Ha!

Re: Appreciating spoonbill's BG games series

Nope, Ian Humphries has never been on this forum, I have exchanged emails with him in the past, but as far as I know Germanco is a new user. Windows 10 seems a bit more of a pain to change sapi voice than xp, since whenever I tried, it always defaulted back to the original, then again, I don't mind the standard microsoft hazel voice anyway, actually I personally have never been crazy about espeak, but it's all personal preference. I take back what I said about the Ai in BG hearts being easy, I tried a game last night and got completely clobbered . I've not played for a while now and need to get back into the swing of things I think.

Re: Appreciating spoonbill's BG games series

I tried some word games several years ago but I usually couldn't find the words the game was expecting me to find.I've installed Espeak PL for sapi but I can't select it in the control panel. If I was able to select it, I probably would give some Polish crosswords a try.And about the post in new releases, I also thought it was Ian Hunfreys himself.I thought his nickname is germanico here and I threated the last lines of his reply as his signature, skipping it in the process, so everything made sence to me.

Re: Appreciating spoonbill's BG games series

@Nidzaa, I believe the topic in new releases is one from about 2013 which was resurrected and brought to the top of the new releases room for no good reason, and the reply by Ian Humphries was quoted from a mail he sent to someone else. That is however why I thought it would be better to have a topic here for legitimate discussion of the BG titles. wow, you mentioning playing them with no internet takes me back to 2007-12, when I had regular two hour train journeys with no net connection, no mobile phone  and just my laptop, and yes often was playing Ian Humphries games at that point.

Re: Appreciating spoonbill's BG games series

OH wow, that's actually sad to hear, but perfectly understandable at the same time. If I remember correctly he was already a retired programmer. Definitely a great post Dark, and while as you said I do wish the games gained screen reader support at some point, that's definitely no reason not to try them out. Most of them were extremely fun, especially killing boredom during a larger trip or when there's no Internet connection, and the Chess game in particular was quite helpful to me to understand some additional things about Chess even though I was already familiar with the rules. As I am a fan of trick taking games, I also had quite a lot of fun with nomination whist, and definitely planning to try out some word games soon, not just because of Spoonbill, but in general for some needed improvements to my English vocabulary So, even though I don't think he is on this forum, once again thanks for providing a lot of entertainment for free. It's even more admiring that he was actually fully sighted and made games both for blind and sighted people.Edit: Oh, I've actually just saw the topic in new releases, had no idea he was actually on the forum which is even better.

Re: Appreciating spoonbill's BG games series

@phoenix, I'm a very bad Englishman, since I  have absolutely no appreciation of Cricket at all. Then again, since I also have no appreciation for football, rugby or heck pretty much most other sports, that isn't saying much, glad you liked the game though .@mara, for some reason, I just can't get my head around any of the stack solitaire games. I did give both clondike and Scorpion a go at one point, but I just couldn't really understand the rules of where you had to push the various cards in the stack structure, which is why I got on better with games like tablic.Nice to know other people enjoy them though.

Re: Appreciating spoonbill's BG games series

My list is almost identical.Instead of alchemy, I prefer klondike. It's really easy to move cards between columns. The auto move cards obtion is great as well. The only missing thing is the scoring system like in GMA cards.I also prefer nomination whist over heards.I'm not a native english speaker so I don't solve crosswords.Instead, I like almost all of his solitaires.

Re: Appreciating spoonbill's BG games series

I've only tried the BG twenty twenty cricket sim, and BG chess challenge. I really love the A.I used in the opponents, especially in the cricket game. My only gripe with the cricket game is that I wish it was a multiplayer one as well. That'd be fun, bashing your friends online.
