Re: blind audio games in arcade centers.

Hi,@exodus: do you know the fate of the Sega Mini Rider motion simulator that was at Trocadero? I miss that thing so much, even if I got the chance to ahve just one more ride on it Id be happy. In comparison to the other sim they had there: It could sort of swing forward and back and stuff, it didnt just tilt. The ride buttons were rectangular shaped, not round.I think the other sim was called motion fx or something, but the mini rider trumped all of them, its the only thing Ive ever given a 10/10.

Re: blind audio games in arcade centers.

Im betting a lot of the new arcade machines are going to consumers with far too much money on their hands. There are always people with absurd amounts of money willing to buy a really, really expensive toy.I think one of the greatest issues with arcade machines is their single purpose nature, if they made one where you could select from a library of games thatd be better though keeping them upgraded to where they could play all the new games could be very difficult. Darks right though, the capabilities of modern games consoles has pretty much made the arcade machine obsolete.

Re: blind audio games in arcade centers.

Hi,@dark: I can see where you are coming from, but I can also givesome evidence that arcade machines are actually still being made, and Ive got two recordings to prove it.I follow a website called arcade heroes, and they do announcements on the latest machines. I was quite surprised when I discovered that raw thrills, a new arcade developer, had developed a |Batman arcade game. They did an unboxing video. Of course, these machines are super expensive for both arcade owners and, as I found out, players.Yes, to my great and utter surprise, I went to my local arcade about two months ago, a couple weeks after Batman was released. I was actually looking to see if they had Transformers Human alliance, but then my Dad mentioned some sort of Batman car. I thought oh, I bet this is some sort of kiddy Batman car, and anothe rhalf thought hold on a sec... and moments later my suspicions were confirmed, and my reaction was one of rather a lot of excitement. As proof of this, heres a recording of my first ever game on the machine with my Dad steering. The machine behind is a two-p machine so you will hear money at points in the recording due to other gamers trying their luck at that.batman recording: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/177 … meplay.mp3I also have a recording of a second game, this one in an arcade further away.I was with fellow forumight, the doctor, when we found this next machine. Me and Dad played first. It was a flight sim of sorts where you battle aircraft, but it was enclosed, and the sound was rather nice, surrounding you in the action. I dont know why there is a weird whirring noise every now and then though, as the sim didnt move, nor did the wind fans seem to work when I played. So, youll hear me playing first, from inside the cab. Then youll hear the doctors craft taking off from the outside whilst we stood and watched. Finally, youll hear me go in the cab completely alone to whitness the games demo mode without anyone else talking, so I just sit there for a minute or so and enjoy the action.Mach storm recording: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/177 … 20mode.mp3Thanks, and enjoy.Regards,Aaron

Re: blind audio games in arcade centers.

H Aaron, where was the arcade you saw these? Was it in London? as I said I was at the peer arcade n Skegnesse a couple of weeks ago and they had no new games at all, and back in the 90s they were an arcade who always had expensive machines, and indeed unusual ones, for example they once had a japanese sword game called sepugin in which the player had a sword on which were various infra red senses, and as the player moved the sword around the characters sword moved on the screen. It also had a peddle that could be used to lunge forward for close attacks, they also for a long time had the starwars trilogy was very awsome, so if new games were available I wouldve expected to see them there, unless theyre so expensive that only places like the Trocadero in London can afford them. There has been quite a nostalgia movement in gaming of course for the 80s and 90s, so it wouldnt surprise me if someone took advantage of that to create gam
es, although sadly they probably wont create anything good that I could play from a low sense, though itd be nice to see none the less.

Re: blind audio games in arcade centers.

Well Camochek, there are still arcades around, but Id say a good ninety percent of what Ive seen there are fruit machines, crane games, and other gam bling type stuff to take your money, not propper computer games at all, while there are a few places that for nostalgia reasons still have older machines like double dragon or street fighter 2, they tend to be aimed at retro game fans. New arcade games just arent being made anymore.

Re: blind audio games in arcade centers.

Well Camochek the problem is arcades really are going the way of the dinosaur. I was down at the in Skegness on the Northeast coast of Britain the other day. This is a town with lots of arcades, particularly one called the peer sinse its built on a peer over the sea. In the past back in the 90s youd always find the latest games there and I used to look forard going every summer to see the new versions of street fighter 2 and 3, dark stalkers, mortal combat, not to mention games like Tekken, and Killer instinct as well as walk along beat em ups like The Simpsons, turtles, renigade or double dragon. They also had a nice habbit of keeping their old machines around, I once even found an old Marios adventure game. Now however its wall to wall fruit machines! no actual computer games at aall, indeed the only game I saw down there was the gun game house of the dead three and even that is getting on for about 9 or 10 years old. in the past, arcades were always great sinse arcade versions of games were always better than what youd find on a console like the Snes, as they could afford better hardware, now that is not the case anymore, plus of course things have moved away onto games consoles, smart phones and computers. Also, remember that another major function of arcades was multiplayer sinse back in the 90s, there was no real internet for gaming. That is now served by online play instead. I admit I miss arcades and arcade games quite a lot, but there is no denying times have changed, so audio arcade games probably wouldnt be needed. Lastly of course, is the problem that even back in the 90s arcade games needed mas producing and shiping all over the world and were fairly expensive, I doubt any audio game developer has that sort of money even if Arcade games were a viable option.Oh, and btw, how would you hear the sound in a crowded arcade, sinse I can
39;t see you plugging your headphones into an arcade machine. Finally what the heck is a blind audio game? I personally really dislike using the term blind for inanimate objects, partly because it is inaccurate, partly because it creates some really bad exlcusivist thinking, for example if a sighted person saw an audio game advertised as games for the blind theyd never play it sinse theyd assume it was for the blind and not for them, and obviously the more sighted people play audio games the better. its the same as audio dramas, there are lots of sighted people who enjoy those when theyre just sold as audio dramas, but if theyre called adapted for the blind how many sighted people will bother to hear them? This is also why, even if we had some audio arcade games, Id not recommend an arcade for the blind as you put it, if such a thing did exists and if arcades were possi
ble, Id just suggest mixing the audio games in with the video games.

Re: blind audio games in arcade centers.

@KamochekInstalling a machine like this in an arcade center might not be feasible because you might actually end up being the only person using it, if you somehow manage to convince the management to install one, which I highly dout you will.Pluss as Dark said, arcades are being replaced with consoles, and pc games are far better than they used to be in, say, 1997.
