Huh, it seems I'm still renowned for being a poultice hoarder lol. Uh well, serves me right. Time to break my back on these huge piles of comfrey...all because of you.I hate anything coming against me, lol. Slings have one advantage...and that is it does crush damage which is one of the hardest to soak, making it useful against heavily armored foes, even more useful in fact unless you happen to have the deadliest 240 damage roll crossbow...which is super expensive. But there's no ability for crossbow at all, because it by itself is deadly as hell.

@83 Get poultices if you can. If Artus is around, you may get them for free because he's silly like that XD. You don't need any special skill to apply the poultices to the bandages. You can get colored ones if you know where to look. This is good because you can then refer to bands by their color to use the right poultice for that wound.

Oh crap speaking of archer, I nearly turned poor Gunhild into an archery target. Um...ooops...kind of didn't know bout clear target. but I <3 disarm and feint, now if I can not get smacked by malets al the time in the farmhouseOkay so hamstring is a weird one. I did that, it gave me the message they were stunned, then dodged attacks? Is that how it's meant to work? Also back on that horse grind too...kind of debating skipping stealth altogether really, but if hamstring counts toward training stealth then...hmmm

A question  to experienced players.Is the guard command broken?The help file says when you guard someone and that person attacks, your guard will break and that person won't be protected.I was guarding an archer earlier and  i kept my guard while she was attacking.Going to stop using it to  make sure it's not an exploit.

The pack doesn't autoupdate. I don't know how to make it so, sorry.Think of it this way, how easy is it to kill a hulk with a dagger? That's how it is with clok. Rapier is a type of short, thin sword. It deals something like 30 damage...but it strikes fast with crazy good parry advantage (not as good as the 4 strikes 20 damage staff of course). So 30 times 3, enhanced to be more by abilities, is enough to finish off someone. You really just need to study what advantage your weapon has really. Nothing has no advantage. You can create a character and just chat with folk about the happenings, but there's lots of dangers in the world, so it's advised to become skilled with some sort of weapon.This is a very good post, thank you.

But you don't have to worry about skills much unless you wannt go heavy on something, like being the best woodsman in the land and pissing artus off enough to have to dodge his arrows...which is not a very good idea providing I have over 2k archery to come after you.:pHey! I'm known as mauve too and my name is not mauve. I think some people have special ways of calling Artus but I can't remember what off the top of my head. It's funny how you see your character develop...and end up jumping down a deadly ledge somewhere to suicide because you feel very sad about something. That'd be a not so epic but tragic death, lol. Happened to me before by accident...

All weapons have their advantages and disadvantages. Daggers are very good if you're fighting armored foes, provided you know how to use armor. They can armor chink. Swords have excelent damage output, and provide lots of parry bonuses, hafted weapons range through so many different damage types it's not even funny, polearms provide a dodge bonus against melee attacks, and lances fall under this category, which are the deadliest melee weapons you can get. Brawling is unique and provided you're in the right guilds can be just as deadly as any other weapon. whips have urumis and can proc trips and disarms, not to mention they can be used from ranged status and a dodge bonus. That being said, they all have their drawbacks as well. Daggers are awful to parry with, swords are mostly slashing, which is negated by armor, hafted weapons have poor parry bonuses and usually take both hands to wield, polearms damage output isn't the greatest, and their parry bonuses aren't the greatest, whips damage output is pathetic, etc. Just play around with different setups and you'll find something you like.     To the question about raising in the game, it really depends. There's no way to raise skills without grinding, but, you don't need to have skills to be a fixture in the community. Mummers storytell, and if you're good at coming up with stories or performances, you can quickly see yourself being admired and with many friends. There aren't levels or anything like that. You can create a character and just chat with folk about the happenings, but there's lots of dangers in the world, so it's advised to become skilled with some sort of weapon.

if you wanna go stealthy, picking up and chaining lightfoot, tumble and flip is a must...provided you wanna be hardcore about it. Some skills have spec requirements like rapidfire and volley requiring bow spec, or all the revolver thingy requires firearm spec. Then there's ripost...and a lot of blade related abilities. The hefty, 120 damages kill kinda weapon usually don't get specs because they're deadly by themselves.

Mining takes time to net you any real profit. Early game, you're really stuck either killing infested for riln, or foraging. I'd go with foraging personally, since a lot of the newbie hunting areas don't produce as much riln due to overkilling. You can also do your tasks, but they're pretty dangerous from what I remember. Alternatively, you can learn to hunt, skin, and sell pelts, but that's a lot of skills you have to juggle. You can practice stealth in the abandoned caravan till about 200 or so if I recall correctly. That should keep you busy. If you're wanting to go a stealthy route, you really want to pick up the light foot ability ASAP. It has some pretty low prerequirements, and it'll help you a ton in training and just being overall stealthier.

anything works with stealth. you just need to know how to make it work. Wait for someone to come, shoot, get caught, brek the engagement by positioning yourself back to range and hope they don't draw you in again, hide, shoot as quick as you can after hiding, repeat.

npcs can, but they'll take a lot from you. Better off with pcs if you ask me.8-20 is the usual damage of dweller's spear. You have to wait for the moment an axe swing in tanglewood deals 120 damage to your chest and you'll know what hell is like. That how it is for me right now when I go to train. I'm too high to train my top skills in easy areas.it's always good to retrieve, bandage, hide and wait, y'kno. and bandages actually don't cost a lot...besides, you can always hide, wait and ambush. you don't have to jump at them and try to hide in combat. there are certain hide-difficult rooms in the village...and once you get to have those with tridents to the north stab you for 70 damage with their random cobalt (because cobalt is badass against most but nethrim), good luck.:)

abandoned caravan...i actually recommend you going armorless first to save your weight and to be able to train dodge. After that, you can do whatever. Caravan or outside tarueka are places for everyone...or if not, there's a trail northwest and two west from shadgard entrance in the forest.

not infested village, no. infested village is where you at least have like 30-50 dodge. at 0, you have hard time there especially if you're a newb.2. Whatever weapon you use most often is the weapon you have highest skill at. If you wanna use bow, not dagger, hit them with that no matter how long the battle has to be or how injured you can be. Don't weigh yourself down with unnecessary stuff. Stow what you don't use wherever convenient. Keep it light, and see what abilities you can take to enhance your training.My playstyle is no horse except in certain rare occasions, don't get hit by stealth penalty from wearing armors...oh wait right, type effect while you're at it. Armors decrease stealth! I forgot that!

Yes I got questions1. Is mining actually worth it? IN Shad I got 1 riln per bought thing, now if I get a handcart and fill that, will I get more than foraging nets me selling to market/players?2. For stealth, I'm struggling to hit with daggers to raise that skill, and struggling with stealth and archery. Is there a good place to train both? Ha, you're talking to like one of the most renowned udemi (should I be proud?) characters on here.:) And I'm coming to answer all of your archery and stealth fuss.You get penalty and bonus for certain terrains depending on where you are and hwat abilities you have. Some guilds sure have stuff to awkment stealth abilities, like mine. But it also doesn't mean you have to be in that guild to be stealthy. Always, always attack from hiding. if you're a more shady sort, try pickpocketing combat mobs to increase your stealth in addition to battling normally. The stealthier you are, the easier you are to hit. It's also easier to train your weapons too since you have better attack roll generally when you successfully land an ambush from stealth. That explains why stealth characters either use range weapons or fast melee like knives and shit all the time.As to food problem, berries in the forest help. Rations help. Don't go with bread in the tavern unless you really know what you're doing to travel. Take notice of everything from your energy, your playstyle, people around, your advantages and disadvantages over stuff combat or not...etc. Clok is all about learning and mastering. I was at 0 at everything before.And also, don't play a guild just to "use daggers to stab someone and be an assassin". It's not just your playstyle. You place your character's life in that job role eternally once you join. Sometimes, playstyles are cool as hell but the gameplay itself may put you in hard spot. Let's just say you're a complete newb and need quite a lot of how to to get to places, train, do the right thing to the right person...imagine how being an assassin like that would be like, with all the mistakes you may have made. If you're certain and ready, sure. If you're not, I have no idea why you chose a guild far too quickly.

Get a better food supply? Sounds like those aren't very filling. Just take rations. Hunger goes down with the more energy you use up. You use more energy when traveling when you are carrying a lot. So keep your enc low. I usually carry less than 20 pounds on me. Instead I use my horse's saddlebags to carry most of my gear. The wiki is good for lore, and some beginner's tips. As far as guilds go, it's a little outdated.

CLOK is a roleplay mud. Means you need to enter the world and roleplay to get what you want. YOu don't just roll up a character, walk up to someone, even if you know they're an assassin OOC, and say, Oh, I like to use daggers and kill things, can I be an assassin? That'll just get some eyes rolling, not heads.  Best thing I can suggest is read up on the wiki at clok.contrarium.net, interact with people, look at signs, read everything you come across, and that's pretty much it.

My problem is shit loves dodging everything I throw at them..still. I'm tempted to say fuck it, and just go basic and hit things with a sword...but I /really/ wana go archery.It's like my stealth is so shit I can't realiably sneak attack, and if I regularly attack with a sword, they dodge. Dagger, dodge it.So, basically, I have..about 25 in sword and dagger, stealth is a whopping..1.3, and archery islet's se...Archery is ..1.72Need to work on all those, but I can't since I got 8 arrows, and can't pull off sneak attacks to raise my stealth, since I'm studying three skills already. Kinda put myself in a bind

The thing about Clok is that you need to know where it's OK to go and where it's not based on analyzing your battles. You get a lot of combat info, and it can be tempting to ignore it, but don't. If it's too much to keep up with during a fight, at least review it afterward. You will want to see how mismatched you are Vs. your opponent. Right now, stay in Tarueka. If the guys in the environs get too easy, go to the farm house. When they get too easy, go to the town.

I went mercs. I did think about thieves but eally, mercs can do stealth just fine, and theives are on /that/ side of things. I like not being thrown out of cities. Admittedly my char's kind of accidentally moved to Haibon...mostly since, nearer good hunting grounds but ow, holy shit I need a cuirass and a set of soft leather armor because like an idiot, I wnet for rigid leather...and regretting that intensely now...And yes. How easy is it to make arows vs buying them/train the archery and stealth? I want to main archery honestly and stealth as a backup with a sword/dagger for that, because holy hell, getting hit for 30-40 in an unarmed spot (not sure a cuirass works with me being armored and carrying a lot...and breastplate's too heavy to itt fucks up my dodge) just sucks, I'm taking on the village folks, and they love to shank me for 30+ damage, then I do 90+ with a lucky hit

It's C L O K, not clock that you watch the time with.Anyway, question and chat help a lot when you have something to talk about out of character, mechanic wise or whatever (question is gameplay only. Chat is anything). It has  quite a steep learning curve but you get wonderful experience once you manage to grasp it. It pays off, big time.
