Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

Well, I was born with this name. :-D In Czech, it just has two diacritical characters that most people wouldn't know how to read or pronounce anyway, so I omit them.I used to go by stupid nicks like Blindgamer or Neo way back. Now that I've grown up a bit more, I don't like the idea of nicknames at all, it just helps to contribute to the overall anonymity and depersonification of the internet. I mean, if you start seeing nicks such as Pink Lightbulp or Speedwire (translated literally from Czech), you don't even know if you're writing to a guy or a girl. In my language, that's quite a problem. You can't even form verbs without using the proper grammatical gender.Lukas

Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

This username was created in a depressed state, but after I got out of that state I thought it just sounded cool, and then Dark gave me an even cooler meaning for it. It came about on team talk as I was sick of using my IRL first name. When written the x is always lowercase, and when stylized you would have the x either partially or completely crossing out the 0. Do not pronounce it x o! It was to be the ultimate nothing, a null that has been stricken through. But as I got out of that depressed state and requested the name change here, Dark had come up with a few thoughts as to what the hell it meant. The one that stuck with me was that the x modifying the 0 actually could mean something from nothing.Dark wrote:If you are x zero, did that mean you used to be zero but aren't now?eg, something from nothing?that is rather cool in a metaphysical way.And thus, here we are. When I figured out I couldn't use the name ultrasound as my producer name I scrambled to come up with a name, and took inspiration from my existing alias, creating xoCat. But I wanted to make sure that xo would not be interpreted as hugs and kisses, you can thank my mom for this, it would be pronounced exo cat. So my producer name is now exocat, though when stylized the e is absent and the x is cutting into the o, which looks like a cat's eye and is vibrating as if a speaker at the center is playing something.Speaking of musicHere's a smart link to my first EP. If your service isn't listed on that link, just earch "exocat Beyond the Surface" on your platform of choice. And yes, it's not on deezer on purpose.

Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

Get ready for a super dumb story! My username is a misspelling of a Tuvan word. Tuva is part of the Russian Federation, right next to Mongolia in Southern Siberia. Known for khoomei (throat singing), among other things, it was briefly a republic in the early 1900s. The Tuvan word khomus means what in English gets called a Jew's harp, for some reason, or sometimes a trump, it's a drumbel in Pennsylvania dutch. If you tell me your language if you don't speak English, I can probably tell you what it is in your language, since there's a huge collection of names for it. The suffix -tu is the part that's misspelled, I think it should be -chu, so khomuschu, which means somebody who plays the khomus. In grade school I went out for band and we had to pick three instruments. They stuck me with trumpet, not one of my choices, and I got really bored with trumpet and band. I didn't do anything with music for a while. Then I decided to go get a drumbel. Nobody knew how to play it so I basically ended up making sounds with it. When I found out about Tuvan music, that was the first place I really heard it used as an instrument to play tunes. That really boosted my playing, and it's probably the instrument I'm best at, though I play lots of stuff from around the world, because I listen to a lot of music from around the world. I hear cool sounds, and I want to make them. But khomus was my first real instrument, so there you go, that's what it means. I've called it khomus for so long it's hard to remember the English word. I'm trying to change to drumbel, because I'm trying to learn Deitsch (Pennsylvania Dutch), a language both sets of my grandparents spoke, but sadly didn't pass on. But it's hard because I've been calling it a khomus, or the language-specific name if it's from another place, for ages now. Here's me and a friend jamming, he's doing guitar, I'm doing khomus. Fair warning, I might curse in this one, I honestly don't remember.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfjGu18BwdI

Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

Hi, In cases where they ask me for my real name during registration, I do use my real name, Evangelosz Nagy. But back in the day, or even now on a simple online game, the username Zseli stuck with me since the beginning. I don't even remember how it happened, I just know that my parents kept calling me that when I was very young, and the first user account on a computer I had was also labelled in the same way. I like this screen name, because it really doesn't ,mean anything, it actually means Jelly, but again, I have no idea why it stuck as much as it did. and it's short, which is a good thing if I just want to type it out quickly. Now, the question of pronunciation is a hard one, i've herd so many different ones over the years, some of them are quite weird. Microsoft Anna used to say zalai, ATNT natural voices I think said zayli, with an (A) ,no english voice can get it right. The ((ZS) at the beginning is actually supposed to be a (ZH) like sound, although I can't actually think of an english word that uses this phoneme off the top of my head. It's basically like (SH), but voiced with a 8Z). And then there were the misunderstandings, back when I was active on RS games or Quentin C, I would sometimes get things like, are you silly? or, even worse, Are you Sally? My gender is male, so that's a little weird to me, although I get why people may confuse it. Sometimes I also put the number 22 at the end of this name, which comes from my birthday. So if you see Zseli22, or Evangelosz Nagy, or some other variation there of, that's me.

Mine comes from my love of turtles, not just the Ninja Turtles, though of course that's a large contributing factor, plus the number 17, which is my favorite/lucky number. When I create new accounts these days, I usually ditch the 17, but if you see a turtlepower on an audio game, it's most likely me. I've experimented with a few other usernames on various sites over the years, such as screamingTurtle, GreenTurtle, and ShatteredSanity, but Turtlepower always endures, and I don't really use any other names anymore. I think this one will always stick for me.

Fun stuff, this! My name doesn't really have a story behind but an explanation. I picked it on a whim because I like the goofy sound of it.I like to not to take myself to seriously and having a name thats an onomatopoeia for car horns sounding and geese calling seemed to be a good approach for this. Also Honk is an oldschool german mild insult from the 90s for a stupid, clumsy person. And lastly one of my first online pseudonyms I've ever had was Hank Scorpio after a character from a Simpsons episode I liked. So the jump from Hank to Honk wasn't that big.It all came together to this name which I'm not awfully proud of but I don't really care for any better ones either.

I don't actually use this name anymore, but because I already change my username on this sight once I can't change it into anything else, or at least I think so.Edit: I think I should also explain some other usernames I hae since I don't really use this one anymore. So either ways, my most common one seems to be Ferrumite, which is basically iron in Latin plus cool thin at the end. There is one that I no longer use but I actually quite like and that is Drastic Supertastica. I think that I was once on SBYW and I just typed that into the chat once. Boom. That's all. There are also a million other random names I've made for different games, Lastrador, TheCrazedBartender, Seynik Reynikant, etc, and I don't think that there is any good explanation for any of these usernames, it's just something I came up with when I was sitting in that stupid "type in your name" edit box.

Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

Back in the olden days of yesterdecade, I was introduced to the online realms of the blind community. I was always taught to give as little personal information out on the net as I could, so when creating accounts on various platforms I tried to come up with the weirdest usernames I could to shield from anyone trying to figure out my real one. Past names include mayonaise, (Because it's good() UserLTE (Because our area recently got 4G support) and many others I can't seem to remember. But I eventually stuck with That Guy, because I'd always get a kick out of people asking, "Well, who is That Guy?" And I would have no end of fun answering: "Just That, Guy. That one,. Just that one guy." I mean, it's pretty hard to get less general than that. I stuck with the theme when registering a domain name for my website and called it that-domain, from which I spawned that...@that-domain.com as a method of contact.

It was the first show I actually considered myself a fan of, so I picked the name. Not to mention it's not that obvious unless I explain it.

Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

I was introduced to the world of Lord of The Rings as a teenager through the freely available online book written with approval from Tolkien called Isildur. It is there that I saw the first mention of Sauron, the chief antagonist in Tolkien's younger legendarium.Around this time, I discovered the online world of MUDs, and being a less creative person at the time, decided I'd name my character after Sauron, but being that I didn't want to directly use the name, I played around with it a bit, taking a lot of creative license so that I could productively butcher it. My first character on a now defunct MUD called The Adventurer's Inn was therefore named Xoren, and so the name has stuck whenever I make game characters, and so too here it is.Kai

My second username is the name of the game development studio that I wanted to start. My other more common usernames, Tetris and the Tetris monster. I had developed an  imaginary creature called a Tetris monster which would have a portable version of the video game on its back, console and everything. It was extremely Soft and fluffy, with cute small ears. They were extremely friendly creatures. Also, every single time they wanted to go to sleep, they would roll up into little balls and stack themselves like some sort of living tower. Their voices were combinations of eight bit sounds and random little music tones.

@Socheat, one question about your name, how exactly is it pronounced? vocaliser pronounces it as soh cheat, with the first sillable as in the word soft, and the second syllable being what you do if you don't play fair . Due to an NVDA crash, I'm using Windows core George at the moment, and that pronounces the name almost as if it is French, with the second syllable sounding like the thing that goes on a bed, and the emphasis very much on the end of the word. As I don't even think I've heard Khmer spoken allowed, (there aren't too many Cambodians in North England), it would be good to know.

Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

I think we've had topics like this in the past, but hay I don't mind repeating myself, no I don't mind repeating myself, because repeating myself is something I do not mind. If I had to repeat myself, it would be okay because I do not mind repeating myself. There are things I mind, but repeating myself is not one of them, absolutely not, if I had to repeat myself it would be no problem at all since I do not mind doing it, repeating myself that is. Oh, and though I do not mind repeating myself, I certainly wouldn't make a silly rambling joke out of it, no sir! Anyway, as I believe I've said before, my name has nothing to do  lack of sight or, for that matter the character Dark in the anime boogy pop phantom. Back in the early 2000's I was attempting to novelise the play station Rpg xenogears for a friend's website. I had this odd idea at that point that it was really bad to use your rl name on the internet. Dark was the principle character in a original book I was working on. I sort of like him, he was a small sarcastic assassin who killed people with knives for a secret government organisation in a post apocalyptic semi medieval world. Dark was his codename, so I thought it'd be mine as well. Also, since my rl name is Luke (yes, I've had to live with star wars jokes all my life), which means light, it is a nice reversal. of course, sometimes Dark is taken on online platforms, so I tend to use dark empathy or dark tenor instead. Dark tenor, because, well I'm a tenor, and dark empathy because, well empathy is a good thing and sounds nice .

What's the Story Behind your Forum Username

I've seen so many interesting forum usernames on here, and I've always been curious about where some of them came from.Mine has a story behind it. My name isn't actually Dan, my real name is Garrett. I was playing SBYW one time, and someone accidentally created a map called Dangerous Mountain. They left out a U by accident, making it Dangeros Mountain. We were all laughing and joking about it for a while, and I got the idea to change my name to Dan Gero before anyone could beat me to the punch. I thought it was just going to be a small joke lasting a few seconds and I would then change my name back to Shotgunshell, (which was my username on this forum as well as SBYW), but I decided I quite liked this name and wanted to stick with it. The rest is history.Shotgunshell has no interesting story behind it at all. The mods made the name change topic, I wanted to show up as something more creative than Garrett, I came up with the most random name change I could think of, pitched it to Dark, and got shot. Er... I mean ... Got my name changed. So, how about the rest of you guys? Do your usernames have a story behind them, or were they just out of the blue?
