Re: The Vale (final?) Demo

Defender +1, and to be perfectly honest the wining about the blind tropes is getting a bit old. It's a game, bloody enjoy the game, chil relax and don't take offence at every small miner thing that you maybe like omg, people are gonna think x y z about blind people because of ABC in a game, guess what, they don't need a game to be thinking such. The listen around and describe it to me that people harp around so much on, my friends tend to do the same thing and I don't mind because I know they don't mean nothing by it, and if you are being pedantic that's exactly what you are doing anyway, listening around, unless you can see, then you really ought not to be offended by such. Because of all the bullshit about this, like I said in my previous post, they have actually toned down the dialogue so much besides the obvious bits that it feels a bit forced and not natural, now.  That describe it to me, a princess would be actually expected to order people around for, and if you were to stop and think for a moment is for the picture of the current scene, and not such a big deal as it's made out to be. but people tend to rize in arms about the littlest of things these days.  Defender in 182 puts it the best imo, and I'd say not just for excerdus but most everyone else as well.defender wrote:I can understand if you don't personally enjoy the game, but if you can't at least keep your cynicism within the bounds of reason, I'd appreciate it if you would at least refrain from ruining the chances of potentially better games in the future by alienating the kind of people that might actually bring audio gaming into the 2010s. Is the combat system in The vale something very new and extraordinary? no. but have the developers done a good job at it, made it both challenging for people that enjoy such, and easy for people that are new to gaming or may have not played audio games in the past? definitely 200% yes. It has a lot more than bop it, from what I have seen anyway, and I for one enjoyed the demo quite a lot.Grryf

I ordered psycho strike again, I think, and deleted it after a couple of tries, it's a nice idea but after I ordered it I remembered, oh yeah, it doesn't have screen reader support and you can't run without drugs, hopefully something new comes out and grabs my interest but for now I'll be not buying from this dev and honestly would like a refund but I know that won't happen.

Re: Komandoe 2 has arrived!

Hello?I would like to ask the developer team one question and one suggestion. 1. What is the reason? It seems to me that there is a compatibility between certain parts. When two different parts are composited, there are cases where the overall performance improves, and there are cases where it is rather poor. If you know about this, please let me know.2. Based on the level max, the difference between the performance of "brown" paint and "maroon" paint is not significant, and the stats that are actually output in the game are hardly different, making it easy to confuse. Please consider whether you can significantly change the performance difference between the two paints.Thanks.

Re: pole, would you go for perpetual or subscription for software? Why?

Yeah, with everyone else that perpetual is preferred when possible.I think the key difference is product Vs service. It seems like an unreasonable amount of software is switching to making things services when they can easily be products. I do not know why. It helps maintain the ever-moving target that is up-to-date technology, in which things constantly change but rarely improve, which imo is pointless artificial entropy and difficulty that selects against the ability to make something stable... but what do I know? The key thing screwing this up, even without what I just complained about, is everything going online. It makes way more sense to subscribe when using something on a server or network, and wouldn't you know, nearly everything is moving toward an always online model. >.<

Hi all,Proof that kind, honest, feedback helps, I've got word from a developer super fast.A very small, simple rpg called Dungeon of Reminiscence has just had a new version uploaded with no text scrolling. It's a type name, choose class, press any key to move, fight enemy, kind of an rpg. It almost has incremental elements. You can fight as much as you want, or, you can flee, which takes you to a shop if you are successful, upgrading your weapon, armour, adding potions, or resting for a small amount of gold. It's a short game maybe five or six bosses, but I really hope the dev adds an endless mode.I actually beat the original version last night, and within hours of me saying that the screen reader was sying "you o pen y our eyes", he's uploaded a version with no scrolling whatsoever. He's surprised that anyone has played his game and he enjoyed my feedback.I've told him about this forum, and please, if anyone has an Itch account please leave a comment there as well.https://peterthomas6.itch.io/dungeon-of-reminiscence

Re: pole, would you go for perpetual or subscription for software? Why?

Depends on whether I think it's worth the subscription.Apple seems to be encouraging developers to adopt the subscription model, but it really depends on the app.Subscribing to use a keyboard app such as flicktype may give the developer revenue, but there isn't much you can do with a keyboard app apart from maintain it when something breaks.I hear gold wave is in beta on iOS, we're not sure if that will have a subscription model like the windows version or if it's going to be an outright purchase.I think this would depend on what an app has to offer. We're use to subscribing to streaming services, and now we have office 365 and I'm sure other apps are also doing the same.Swamp has a subscription to play online, and I know quite a few mainstream games have the same thing.A few final Fantasy games are online, so you are not only paying for play station plus about once a year, you're also paying for game subscriptions as well.At the end of the day, ask yourself, do I really need this?App developers need to make money somehow, a one time purchase will eventually dry up.What I find strange is when apps have the option of a one time purchase, or a subscription.

There's also a sort of Eamon successor on there where you'll be able to eventually go through different worlds as the same character and even make your own, but again, not accessible. I tihnk that one's called hypoglyph. However, I've commented on those games asking about screen reader access, mentioning tolc and such.

Re: What games would you like in the community?

Kingdom Hearts, minus the obligatory level-grinding Make it a 90s Saban crossover of doom. They had MMPR, X-men, TMNT, and DBZ all at the same time, didn't they? ... Eh, I think they dropped DBZ and ended X-men before TMNT: The Next Mutation, so maybe not. And there's no chance of TMNT and Marvel coming anywhere near each other in the immediate future. But I don't even care; I want to see one of Cable's time-travel clashes with Apocalypse lead to the Zenoverse, and Trunks, Bishop and the Blue Centurion sending you on a mission to hijack the Technodrome to use as a time-fortress. And you get stuck with Jubilee and Justin as your default party members, and if ever the writers feel like having them do anything obnoxious, you'll be attacked by Cell Jrs who have been trained by the Shredder in the art of Ninjutsu, or Cog/Sentinal hybrids, or something.Of course, Majin Buu will absorb Apocalypse and Darkspector, only for Apocalypse's will to seize control, resulting in a boss battle you stand no chance of winning. You'll probably have to Antman your way inside the abomination and somehow do ... something. But whatever. And there can be a Big Bad Beetleborgs level, so you can use their cheat for pulling new equipment out of nowhere. Actually, having a comicbook artist as the source of your stuff could be an interesting element, but I have no idea how it could be made more interesting than any other generic equipment crafter in any other game. Hmm.

It's not personal attacking per say, but obvious  bullshit is obviousCan you point out in any posts by exodus (e x o d u s) stating that I disliked the game? I can wait... Have all the time in the world... Oh yeah. You're not going to find anything like that. That is because I think the game is fair to middling, but I am completely not comfortable with it going out on to a mainstream console. A large chunk of mainstream gamers already think that we sit in our blind chairs, in total darkness, playing our blind games, listening to the blind radio and if we just so happen to be playing something with graphics in it then our carers must be right on hand to make sure we don't end up poking our eyes out. This game won't challenge that idea in any way what so ever and may end up reinforcing it.A final observation/question I find myself with after a second demo play through. Are the graphics supposed to represent what Alex's vision is like? If so then that's another can of worms right there.

Jet Suits

Some may have heard of Richard Browning, a former Oil Trader and Royal Marine Reservist who developed his own Jet Suit in the equivalent of his back yard through a series of careful trial and error experiments into a commercial company called Gravity. The suit itself, or at least the latest iteration, consists of two arm sized jet turbines that rest above and below each forearm for a total of 4 engines, 2 on each arm, and a backpack with a fifth engine and fuel supply. The length of time to fly ranges around 5 minutes, depending on various factors.Recently they've done a number of shows and events for people, they also offer training for using the Jet Suits, and are looking to start competitive Jet Suit racing, along with some suggestions of Search and Rescue work. Richard gave a talk not too long ago at Cisco LIVE Europe 2020, which you can watch [here] where he talks about the suit and the various iterations and developments its gone through.

As others have said, Foobar2000 is a good all around solution, probably the most customizable and compact you're going to get. There are plugins for most everything you'd want. From Youtube Support to DSP to commandline decoder wrapping to Discord Rich presence to podcatching.VLC comes with a lot of this out of the box, whereas Foobar is more light-wait and minimalistic by nature. format not supported? Plugin. Want a feature? Plugin for that too.Another plus to Foobar, you can set keyboard shortcuts for basically any action in the app and hide the interface. Nice to be able to play files without a window unnecessarily popping up to tell you that a file is playing.Make sure to grab Classic User Interface for a better all around UI.I set it up once a couple years back and have been using that same configuration ever since. That having been said it's been a good while and I hear VLC has gotten some new features since I last tried it.

Re: a small concern about the public record of disciplinary action

No, Simter, that's not how this works. You have at no point apologized for your accusations. You have at no point apologized for implying that we're trying to hide things when we aren't. You have at no point acknowledged that anything you have done is wrong. Basically what you did was say a bunch of hilariously inaccurate stuff and then put your head down when you were challenged. Silence is not the same thing as admitting you were wrong or agreeing that your approach was bad.See, here's the thing. If someone comes to me with a question, I try to answer it, but the efforts I'll go to usually depend on how it's asked. If you ask the question in such a way that you truly want an honest answer, then that's fine. If you don't really ask a question at all, but instead try your best to make the person you're talking to defensive, that's a great way to get exactly what you want in that sense.Pretty much since the start of this topic, you've been attacking in bad faith. You've implied that things are fishy. You've claimed that my not providing links is an indicator that I'm trying to hide my moderation decisions, or that I don't want to discuss them (never mind all the evidence that torches your point on this score, we've already discussed it). You've implied that even after I began providing links, it only validated your theory that I was hiding or obscuring info in the first place. You also took my frustration as justification, the "ooh, I got under his skin, I must be right" angle. You never stopped to consider that I was annoyed with you because you were taking things out of context, putting your spin on them and then acting as if what you speak is gospel truth. Look; I get enough attitude like this from Donald Trump and his supporters (not personally in Trump's case, obviously), so I certainly don't need it from you, too. You stir up a whole bunch of false bullshit for what reason I still don't understand, get challenged, put your head down, then act aggrieved when folks haven't let it go? No sir, that's not how this is going to work. Quite obviously, people following you around and bullying you about this isn't cool, so I'm not going to do that. But if you open your mouth and say things, you're responsible for those things. If you annoy people, and they offend you because they dare to smack down your arguments, I think you're just going to have to live with it.

Hi there,@5: hmm, a bit basic right?Try out Vim. Hate me later. Vim can actually do most likely anything that one could possibly imagine. Supporting about 7 working modes, it is designed for keyboard efficiency and high adjustability.Even though its roots go as far as to eighties years of the previous century, it's still one of the most popular text and code editors.Although I didn't test, it should be accessible on Windows, see:https://github.com/luffah/vim-accessibilityI assume based on:https://a11y-bos.org/annual-events/abou … iscussion/as GVim is not accessible by itself, I've tried that much, I guess the patch mentioned above was the referred way.Best regardsRastislav

Look at the random evil guy semulator. Also this one especially showed how easy influencable some of the folx here are. User xy said: "this is a crap game. Where are the good devs?" Then user xx and xy suddenly come out of their earthholes and do the same bullshit. Or my own game how hart escaping can get. I made a post announcing it, then some folks came and said it was a klone, folks that are known to have a personal bias, and some other people come in and say "klone you fucking faggot.", yeah they really said that. I then released it and before any one even downloaded it, i checked the logs, someone already posted "klone.". Means in this community if you where an asshad once, you are an asshad for ever. And if you are a new dev, better don't start coding for this community, or only bring big big very very big games.

Re: Making a speech synthesizer

You can get access to a high quality recording setup and someone who can do a bunch of sound editing, spend weeks or so making the samples that something like Festival requires, figure out the pronunciation rules for whatever language you want, and read the necessary papers to figure out how to run the Festival toolchain.  Unfortunately figuring out pronunciation rules is really hard and this won't be super high quality or a fast synth.Alternatively you can do roughly the same thing with Espeak, but in that case you have to manually edit everything by hand because Espeak's method of synthesis doesn't work off recordings.  For that you'll probably need to write some custom scripts of some sort.  Sighted people can figure out starting points by looking at spectragrams, but we can't, so you'd have to make up for that. But in either case the biggest blocker is probably that you need some sort of linguistics person to figure out how to do the pronunciation rules, because outside of one of Google's machine learning things, no one's managed to automate that.it's technically doable but it's a 6 month project for multiple people to have anything high quality, if I had to estimate.  Maybe a little less if someone already has the expertise and you don't have to learn anything.  Everyone involved will need to be fluent in the language it's for as well, so for the rarer languages you'll have trouble getting a team together.

Not even code I write that works with audio has ever produced a broken experience like that... though I can see how you could break it that bad if your hand-writing an audio system, which is almost never a good idea. OP, if you want to be taken seriously, please cut out the BS and actually provide us some proof that what you can do is actually doable without any vision. If the 3D viewer is as broken as Exodus claimed then it really sounds like the devs have no idea how to work with a GPU either (which is just... not good). I can prove that Second Life is useable. Come in and I will simply show you. We don't have videos up on youtube because we do not have the time. We are volunteers. And yes, the programmer knows what she is doing. The system is not broken. A lot of the critism coming here is not from users who are in Second Life on a daily basis. Come in world and actually spend time there and interact with it and residents and then offer critisms.

OK people, I'm suggestion-hunting again! So I'm in the process of implementing doors ETC. I've got a setup where you can make any box a door, which can e open or closed. Only thing is, I'm not sure on the best way to let players open it.I could make them bump into the door, then press enter, or search all boxes for doors when they press enter, and open or close the first one. That presents a problem though, as if there's 3 doors right next to east other, say at (0, 1), (1, 1), and (2, 1). If your player is stood at (1, 0), it would open whichever door was adding first (or last depending), rather than necessarily the one they wanted.Any better ideas than them two? Thanks in advance.

Re: Jet Suits

These technologies can't usefully work until and unless we have incredibly major advances in materials science and batteries.  Until then, yeah it's doable, barely, but it's also a dead end. Also, people have tried to do self-driving aircraft taxis.  We don't have them because it turns out that things smaller and less powerful than a helicopter can't fight against winds at higher altitudes.  SO anything beyond the height of 10 stories or so, control goes out the window.  If the energy problem gets solved and it gets flight time worth speaking of--which it can't, currently--this one's waiting right behind it to stop the entire project dead.  For single-person aircraft larger than a jetpack, the problem isn't flying, it's flying safely and in a controlled manner.Someone will probably figure out some sort of very small single-person aircraft at some point--not soon, but it is at least doable--but I don't think it'll ever be smaller than a living room.  The physics doesn't work out.

They're kind of a pain in the ass, at least in my experience. godot-tts isn't doing them and likely won't because there was some odd build failure, I don't remember what it was, that only happened in CI. It didn't happen on my own box, and I couldn't think of anything I'd done differently that I hadn't tried replicating in CI.Hoping this is a language issue, but that came off as being a bit entitled and could be toned down a bit, bro. Re: Is Chicken Nugget back?

@28Pianobar has existed for a long time, I think as long as Hope, and is accessible.  Qread somehow avoided bugs, and I still use it for that reason.  Chicken Nugget was unstable for many of us from very early in the project.  Not unstable enough to be unusable, not at first, but it went downhill pretty quickly. But if you want something shady that he actually did do--and which is pretty widely known--NVDA Remote was funded under the understanding that it'd be open source, only for him to keep the server closed source and claim that somehow he was meeting his obligations to the funding campaign, which a number of us were involved with getting off the ground.  That wasn't the last straw from those of us who used to consider him a friend, and broadly speaking most of the really negative stuff with Q happened in private and I'm not willing to bring it up for that reason, but I think that's bad enough to justify our negative view of him alone. Also, try reporting a bug.  50-50 as to whether or not he gets pissed at you for it, and if you know him well enough that you have access to his source code, 100% chance that he demand you fix it, and 100% chance that he get even madder when you ask how much you're going to get paid to do that.  And god help you if it's negative feedback that's not a bug, that raises the arrogant anger chances to basically 100% even if it's in public and the person offering it has no involvement with him.So I mean...yeah.  Don't get mad because Chicken Nugget isn't maintained.  I don't think that's reasonable or fair.  But there are lots and lots of reasons to avoid anything to do with him.

Re: The Synthizer Thread

Synthizer should work as-is under 32 bit anything, but CMake is going nuts on Appveyor because it's misdetecting Clang-cl as 64-bit in the 32-bit MSVC command prompt, which shouldn't happen.  Then it tries to link to 32-bit MSVC libraries after accidentally building a 64-bit test "does this compiler work" program and explodes.  Generally speaking 32-bit releases of C++ stuff are fine, it's just that Windows has two copies of all the libraries, and you need to run under the right MSVC command prompt and possibly tweak the build system a little.  Unless you decide to use clang-cl, and cmake breaks.I'm either going to spend a Saturday figuring out why CMake is breaking (10 minutes per CI attempt. Yay!), or I'm going to spend a Saturday making it compile under MSVC.  Being as compiling under MSVC also opens up packaging with vcpkg as well as several other things, probably the latter.32-bit releases are still valuable, but the value is almost nothing because there's just not that many 32-bit copies of Windows out there anymore.

Right now it doesn't do anything useful. As a general rule of thumb, reserve arguments for data that is apt to change. No need for:g = server.get_user(u["userid"])You can eliminate a step by just calling:server.user_message(u["userid"], nickname + " writes to you:\n" + content[1:])Note that I also changed "content[1]" to "content[1:]". Without this, if there was an "@" in your message for some reason, it along with everything else would be dropped. Look into Python slices to understand why.

devinprater wrote:So, I'm on the Virtual Ability Island right now, and, yeah, it still seems limiting to me. I mean, there's a sign here, but how do I read it? There's a teleport to training centers, but walking to it does nothing that I can tell. I mean, how does the island look? I just, I don't know. Maybe there's some trick to learning to enjoy this thing. Also, in another topic, Heartssong said that we can equip a "shoe sound". I mean, Radegast can't just come with that by default? Of course, people who are good at this probably don't even need it. Ah well. I'll keep playing with it, but yeah I'll probably need training. Also, why doesn't the client use NVDA's controller client to speak output as it comes in? I mean, you'd practically have to use arrow keys and tab and shift tab and constantly check for output, right? I mean, tat doesn't sound relaxing at all. Of course, you may have JAWS, where you can just set screen echo to all and get spammed with repeating stuff probably. But there may be more sounds than I think. There is none when I type//statusand press Enter, though, so I doubt there is one for incoming output too. Also, why does Virtual Ability Island have unlabeled objects? Dealing with note cards is a pain! Like, how am I supposed to know that that "strip view" thing has controls on it when it just says "sale boat note card" or whatever? So I have to detach the note, then exit? Sure, that's intuitive. Sarcasm of course. Also, if I want to see a description of something, I have to "show contents." How is this productive? Or maybe there are just more commands that aren't in the user's guide. So there's this "bird of paradise large." here, and it's description?(No Description)Great. Very inclusive. Thanks a lot. Then again, I'm one of those weird blindies that want to know what the world looks like, not just what's around. I mean, in real life, I have my cane, and my phone could tell me what objects are around. Can't I, in a virtual world, know just, a tad bit more? Like, what a freaking bird looks like on a supposedly disability-focused island? Well, let's see how this boat works. Lol they couldn't even be bothered to change the "use arrow keys" to drive to using the go commands.Okay so how are you supposed to know, other than by tabbing, when something is being freaking offered you? Like, this is like some Windows 95 style app. Like, no automatic speech, no way of knowing when something pops up... Just, really bad. But let's see how far I can take this.Well that failed. I couldn't actually "ride" the boat. Ah well. Maybe these playground things will end better? I mean, even though I didn't even know about them until going further down the list of objects.Nope, looks like you can't actually interact with the Merry Go Round-, or the slide. Hey what about the swing set? Surely that'll be fun! Well the info about it just says "swing set." Okay maybe sit on it? Nope. Okay maybe one of the contained objects? Nope. Yeah this virtual world doesn't seem too lively, or fun, or interesting, or even all that accessible. Without any further help or instruction or heck, even plain justification as to why we should use this, over MUD's, or even TeamTalk or Discord, would be welcome. But if you just say "oh well I ain't got time for recruiting, I've got ma training to do!" then I mean, I don't see why I should Invest my time into trying to get a handle on this.I mean, let's take you riding a train for example, since that's something you did recently. How did you know what was around the passing train? How did you know what stop you were at? On that amusement park thing, I mean, how was it any different than being in the world as you are now? I mean, we still don't know what things look like. We still don't have any idea what goes on if it's not in chat or sound, and chat is going to be very frustrating because no automatic reading. Also, do you have some vision? I mean, if so that's great, but it means we totally blind people will just have to deal with how frustrating the client is to use, and how gosh darn slow it is to actually get something done. I mean, riding a boat! I still can't get that done! Also, Virtual ability's blog seems to have been taken over by spam. That's great. Just great. If you would like, I can help you. I can teach you how to use Radegast. To interact with objects, you use the objects list. The main VAI island doesn't really have any sound which is why you aren't hearing any. SL is loaded with sound. As for the boat ride, I can help you with that too. But first you probably need to learn how to walk around.Signs can have what we call notecards attached to them. The Orientation Path, which is where you are, is just the default place you are logged in to when you log in for the first time. We start out training you there but that is not where you learn to interact with objects. There is a lot to this and I will be glad to help you. But we

I haven't got them, but there's the Sony WF 1000XM3's. I've got the WH version (proper headphones, rather than in-ear).My wife looked at them, and seemed to think they'd got mushrooms, so not sure if they're airpod-style or not.

Re: a small concern about the public record of disciplinary action

Ya know, Liam really can be a friggin troll.  If Mayana's post 92 was a roasting that would have made a croc shed tears, Liam has a way of presenting points that would torch an armored dragon, after it lifted its voice to the high heavens in pure agony.  I've yet to see him bested, and while I've trolled other trolls for amusement elsewhere and done it well, I really don't want to start down that road with him.  Right now?  The way I see it, anything else Simter says other than a humble I'm sorry, is just asking for trouble.

Re: I need a RPG to spend some months in

if you liked the manamon games, the same developer has the Paladin of the Sky games (1 and 2) you could go for as well. Breed Memorial is also one that will eat your life. It is based on the monster farm/monster rancher (depending on the country you live in depends on title) from the 90s and it is a monster raising and breeding game but it is different than the pokemon-style manamon games and is significantly harder. You will see the delight of the MR series though if you go for it and you should have a good time.

@Liam, 127, well played either way.  to be honest, I'd forgotten he tried to start his own forum until you brought it up.

@AssaultFreakBecause his behavior has continued unchecked for a very long time (mainly I think because he doesn't post that often) and someone needs to say something so that we as a community aren't seen to be tacitly approving of this kind of toxicity, particularly when mainstream developers are involved.  And again, this isn't about his opinions regarding the game (in fact as I said I'm starting to come over to your side after thinking about it more) but the way in which he said it and talked to Grryfindore afterwards is just not something we need here.  I'll take the warning without complaint if I get one, and I do regret the off topic nature of the post, but I don't regret what I said or why I said it.Either way I am not going to continue the conversation after this out of respect for the topic.
