[authors] Updates to Getting Started guide

2005-10-11 Thread Jean Hollis Weber
I've fixed the problem with the chapter name in the page header
which occurred in many (but not all) of the files. I've uploaded
sxw, odf, and pdf copies of the files I changed. I also
recompiled the pdf of the full book, because there have been a
lot of minor changes in the chapters since the previous version
was compiled two months ago.

Cheers, Jean

[authors] origin documents for data base and basic

2005-10-11 Thread Bernd Glückert
Hello authors,

I'm looking for origin documents for the data base and the basic part,
because there is a lot of white space in our German documentation list.

The links to any origin documents are pointing to french docs - are there
also english docs available? If yes I can start translation next week.

Hello!
My name is Benedikt Kroll (username is bk , signed in again on oct
10th, my first log in from yesterday was not saved). I would like to
take part
in the german documentation for OOo 2.0. It would be great if youd
allow me to translate the English documentation "Printing with Calc"
into german.. According to the page http://oooauthors.org/de/authors
there is not yet an author, so I would like to do this job. Is this OK?

To intoduce myself: I come from Germany, but my languages are also
English and French. Using OOo for quite a long time also for school
needs, I think this software is worth to spend time for to develop it.

[authors] PING: Getting Started with Impress

2005-10-11 Thread Dan Lewis
While I have not completed the writing of this chapter, I have
completed the presentation upon which it will be based. The
presentation file is located at:
http://www.delewis.com/OOo/Simple_Presentation.odp
Any comments would be appreciated.
This presentation will be donated to the OOo documentation project
through OOoAuthors after a thorough review. In the meanwhile, I am
keeping it on my own web site so that I can make any needed changes
quicker. (My desktop is also my web server.)
I hope to have the chapter read for review by this weekend.
I have run into another problem with Impress. I can print the
entire set of slides as a handout, but I can not do so while including
notes. There are two slides with notes: Outline View, and Running the
slide show. I can select either one of these two slides and print out
the slide and the slide with the note, but I can not print out more
than one slide this way. (This is after selecting all the slides in
Slide Sorter as recommended by Help.)

2005-10-11 Thread Katharina Greif

Hello,

I joined the authors-mailinglist and want to introduce myself.
My name is Katharina (username shea_corrin), 24 years old, from Germany,
but I speak english too, maybe with a little too much slang from New
Mexico ;-).
I study biochemistry, so I'm not really IT-related, that's why I suppose
the best would be, if I could do mostly proof-reading. So if you need
help, don't hesitate to contact me.

with kind regards

Welcome, Katharina!

I have given you author status.

We'd love to have your help, as we are working very hard to
finish two books this week and next: the Getting Started guide
and the Writer Guide.

The most helpful thing you could do right now is check some of
the draft published chapters against the latest OOo2.0 software.

See the first page on the English part of the site
(http://oooauthors.org/en/) for an overview of what to do, and
this page for details on checking against the software:
http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2/contribute

If you can't check against the software for some reason, or you
don't want to, that's okay. Let me know and I'll suggest
something else. There's more than enough work to do! :-)

Benedikt,

I think the English version of Printing with Calc is being
revised, so it might be best to wait for a few days before
starting to translate it.

Linda, can you confirm?

Are you registered with a username on the openoffice.org-website? If
yes, pleas log in, type the Issue-number in the field on the right side

It' s also possible to create resp. to edit screenshots for your
 documentations.

_This_ is something a couple of translated documents need ... ;)

If you need further information corresponding to my profile as
translator don' t hesitate to contact me.

Have a look at http://oooauthors.org/de please, where you find a
short overview how things work here.
The list of translated (and also needed) documents are here:
http://oooauthors.org/de/authors.
As a newbie to our group I would recommend to read Timo's
Leitfaden (attention, direct link:
http://oooauthors.org/de/Vorlagen/Uebers
etzung_OOo_Leitfaden_komplett.sxw), where he has tried to give us
some guidelines to our translations ... ;)
Now you only need the author role which I unfortunately cannot give
to you ... :(
If you have further questions, feel free to ask here on this list.
We will try to help our new members ... :)
Have fun

With some searches I have found some documents and I like to

translation for a document. Whatever I do, it's ending on 404
pages or similar points of no return.

... which means Page not found ... :(

 For example:

I want to translate Filemanagement in OpenOffice.org and for
recreation during this document I want to make proofreading of
 Arbeiten mit Diagrammen.

How can I catch a document to start work?

The original (English) ones are mostly somewhere on the
http://oooauthors.org/en part of the side (although I cannot give
you a direct link to the above mentioned document ... :( ) The
Arbeiten mit Diagrammen document should be here:
http://oooauthors.org/de/roh/charts_001.odt. Is it not there? Have
you tried to change to the http://oooauthors.org/de/roh directory
and have looked there? Or maybe in http://oooauthors.org/de/fein?

well .. this raises again the question about PDL.

he should not attach files to the issue! He should just say there,

And we translators also communicate over the [EMAIL PROTECTED] ML or call

I know the discussion and afair there was the idea that the

 I didn't see a confirmation for that.

Sigh ... Neither do I ... :(

Hi Dan
This is really great, thanks very much for a mega-input. I have been
using this presentation for testing Impress while I review Ch 2 of the
UG - rather slowly due to a far too great workload here in the office.

But some of what you are touching on in your presentation can be
directly referenced in the UG and I suggest that in the UG we put the
(final) link location to the presentation so that people who want to
work through the UG can do so with a 'real' presentation (of course
having two monitors is great too .).

I just wanted to say thanks and I am looking forward to your published
work.
