To E where did you find this info on the Jose Pinheiro's? I'm leaning
towards the one living in S. Dartmouth with the throat affliction because
that is where my 2nd grt grandpa built his home on Rockland street. Yes we
are absolutely positive he died shortly after my grandpa was born in 1918,
my grandmother who is still alive and in very good condition and a cousin
who was old enough to know more of the family and shares the same side of
the family tree also says that he died very young. There is some belief Joe
Pines middle initial was F but I can't be positive...Mike

more often in the central island group, for example. As for Silva,
it's all

I would like to ask for some help with finding my great grandfather.
We
believe his name was Jose(Joseph) Pinheiro(Pine) based on what my
grandma
who's still living tells me. He was married to my great grandma Maria
Pereira(Perry) we believe between 1916/1918 based on when my grandpa
William Francis Pine was born on 2/16/1918.
Joe Pine died before 1920 because he is not listed on the census of
1920
when my great grandma moved back home to new bedford to her mom and
dads
home.
My grandma believes Joe Pine was aprox 23 when he died and she
believes it
was in California, We believe that Maria and Jose got married in
California
because my grandma said she followed Joe Pine out there.
Anything the group can help with would greatly appreciate, if more
information is needed so you can help I can try and find it for you.
Thanks Ahead,
Mike

Mike,

There is a Joe C. Pine WWI Draft Registration Record (1917) living in
Alameda County CA. He was born April 14, 1892 in Fayal, Azores. He had
a
wife named Rose. There is a 1951 Naturalization Card for this Joseph
Correia Pine in Newark CA. Here it says he was born April 14, 1892.
There
is a Joseph Pine b. April 23, 1894 living in South Dartmouth in 1917
also
b. in Fayal. It says he has a thoat affliction and he was working at
the
Gosnold Mills. It says he is married. There's a Joseph Pine b. Sept.
15,
1892 in Sao Miguel, Azores, living in New Bedford in 1917 but his one
says
he is single.

There are several Jose Pinheiro Draft Registration Records living in
CA/MA.

Then there is this ship's listName: Jose S Pinheiro
Age: 19
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1893
Birthplace: Salao?, Fayal Azores
Gender: Male
Ethnic Background: Portuguese
Arrival Date: 12 Sep 1912
Port of Arrival: Providence, Rhode Island
Port of Departure: Horta, Fayal, Azores, Portugal
Ship Name: Roma
Leaving his father Manuel Furtado da Rosa, Salao, Fayal, Azores- going
to
his brother in law Luiz Lopes, Providence RI

Do you know if he had a middle name? How sure are you that he died?
Maybe
she just left him and returned home? I just helped a girl with her
ancestor
and a few months ago she found out he had a 2nd family back East
before he
married her ggrandmother. She said he never spoke of this first wife
and
children. You can imagine she was elated to find her new found family.

I went into find a grave and found a Manuel Joseph Pine b 1893, d
1914. His find a grave number is 88554320. This is at the Holy Ghost
Cemetery, Fremont, Alameda County, California. Plot: Row 18. It says it
shares the stone with Frank. I went to the Frank Pine in the same cemetery,
but I could not find which Frank it was. the Frank Pine listed had others
in that area but not the same plot. I found others, Pine, Joe and Joseph,
but none had died before 1920.

Hi Altino,
The old family search has 2 listings for Phelipe Borges born abt. 1659 and
Francisca do Rego b. abt. 1663, married 15 Aug 1682 and 27 Aug 1682.
Francisca's parents are Manoel de Mello Martins and Maria Leda. Phelipe and
Francisca were both born in Acores, no listing for Capelas. No other
information is listed.
My paternal line is from Capelas, going back to 1632. I do not have Felipe and
Francisca, but I do have a Manoel de Melo married to Isabel de Benevides abt.
1700. Their children are Antonia de Melo Cabral b. abt 1712 married to Estevao
Travassos, and Antonio de Melo married to Maria de Jesus.
I will look for Felipe and Francisca when I go to the FHC on Saturday, but
chances are Felipe's parents will not be listed.
Let me know if anything sounds familiar.

Mike,

I found this on Ancestry.com. I can forward the original to your personal
email address from them if you would like. Let me know. I have the St.
John's Cemetery book. I have been looking to see if he is buried there..if
he was and did not have a stone, he would not be in the book..there is a
Pinheiro no names or dates in the St. Paul section. There is a Joseph T.
Pine, Jr. 1916-1920 (could this be a son) in St. Isabel St. Agnes
section. You can call St. John's in New Bedford and they can give you the
info on this child and who is buried unnamed in the St. Paul Section.
Before St. John's, most Portuguese were buried at St. Mary's Cemetery (FYI
after St. John's was built several families had their loved ones moved from
St. Mary's to St. John's). I will search this one Jose Pinheiro with the
throat affliction further and see if I can find any more on him. If/When
you call the cemeteries, be very nice when you call and ask for the info
and they will usually oblige. If he came to the US after 1910 and died
before 1920, he would not be in any US census records, not sure if MA has
State census in between.

Mike,

I checked your family in 1920 censusit says Maria is married (not a
widow, so either she did not know he died or he moved away)William is 1
year old and they live on Rockland Street, S. Dartmouth. Joseph Pine's 1917
WWI Draft Registration record says he is living on Rockland St. South
Dartmouth. Correction, it says he has a throat affection whatever that
means? Since he only lists a wife (no name) and lists no children and Wm.
was born in 1918, it is possible this is him. Interesting Mary was
bookkeeper at Col. Green Estate. A few years back, my cousin got married on
a private beach in the area and we could see the Col. Green Estate from the
beach.

I wonder if Joe Pine died of the Spanish influenza (not that it would
necessarily help in finding his records, I suppose). It certainly ran
rampant through Alameda County, California, where my maternal
grandmother (among many) had it. My mother was 5 at the time, and
remembered being traumatized by the numerous funerals in Berkeley and
Oakland to which her mother dragged her for people who died of the
flu. Katharine.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Ponta Garca S. Miguel

2012-05-08 Thread Dano
Hi Gloria,

Since we know that we are related on your father's side, I can provide you
with most of the data on our common ancestry for the past 10 generations. I
believe that we may also be related on your mother's side, as well. I know
that you already have some info, however, since the details
are incomplete, your research will need to be more labor intensive.

Is it better to visit the parish to do your research? The answer is
that historical records are not kept in the parish churches, they are kept
in the Regional Libraries - in your case, Ponta Delgada.

While I would heartily encourage everyone to visit the place of their
family's roots, it isn't absolutely necessary to do so for the sole purpose
of family research - other options are available. For example, the Church
of Latter Day Saints (LDS) allows free access to its Family History
Centers, worldwide. The parish records from the church that you mentioned
are available at the FHC near you. Normally, there would be a rental fee to
order microfilms, but, the fees have already been taken care of on these
films.

If you do decide to visit the homeland - instead of spending your valuable
vacation time in a musty old library, kick back, enjoy yourself, and, take
in the local color. Sao Miguel has some of the nicest scenery and places of
interest of anyplace that I've ever visited. I guarantee, you won't be
disappointed.

[AZORES-Genealogy] While you are researching - Victor Family

2012-05-08 Thread E Sharp
I would like to remind everyone that while you are looking up your family
records on CCA site, I do have a reward out for baptism records for several
of my VICTOR family members. The ones I am specifically interested in are
Isabelle Victor b. bet. 1881-1885 $50 reward, she is my great grandmother,
$25 reward each for her siblings Belmira Victor b. bet. 1885-1887, and
Paulo Victor (he went by the surname Sylvia in the US for some unknown
reason) b. abt. 1874 some of their US records say born in Terceira but thus
far we have not found them there. I actually do not know what island they
were born on. They were circus people and moved around a great deal. If
you come upon any of the other kids, I probably have them but pass the name
along and if I do not have them I will pay $25 each for them also. So far
there are 10 children in this family and I have 7 of the baptism records,
there could be more children I do not know about as Joao V. just found
another for me a few months ago. The parents of these children clearly
listed in all 7 baptism records are Antonio Victor and Ramona Augusta.
Antonio Victor jumped the fence a couple of times and had 2 illegitimate
children, maybe more who knows, and I have the baptism record for one of
them but not the other and her family says she was adopted at birth. I
believe she, another Maria, was born after 1889 and her mother might have
died at childbirth. Since the Victor surname is not too familiar in the
Azores I thought if you should see it while you are researching your family
members could you please let me know? Both Victor parents are deceased by
1892. If you see any death records for the mother, Romana Augusta or any
of her children, I do not have any of their death records. I have the
father's, Antonio Victor) death record. This family did not go to the
Azores until ca 1865-70 from mainland Portugal. The first child I have
born there was a daughter born in 1870 in Terceira.

One of the things on my bucket list before life passes me by is to keep a
promise I made to my mother and find her mother's baptism record.

Thank you.

I'm going to take a wild stab at the basics and let others shoot me down:
9 Jan 1753 for the date.
Joam de Sousa, son of Joam (Peixeiro ) and Luzia Cardoza, natural of Sto. Amaro
 and
Isabel do Rosario, daughter of Joam Machado Costa and (Micaela) do Rosario of

Among the signatures at the end of the record it shows a Joam Machado (Rocha)

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Please! Translation help!

2012-05-08 Thread nancy jean baptiste

Hi Gayle,
Thank you for the insights. I was at such a loss to comprehend this record.
This priest's handwriting is just awful. Your confirmation of the date opens up
further mystery since I was looking for the marriage of my 4th ggrandmother,
Marianna Clara's parents. On Mariana's marriage record in June 9, 1800 her age
is given as 26 years old and I spent a whole day looking at all the baptisms in
Velas for 1770s and never could find herso I thought maybe if I could find
her parents marriage and look for other siblings I could find her along the way
or perhaps other clues. I started with 1750 on a whim thinking that I'd be too
far back but at least I wouldn't miss it by not going far enough back. I was
very surprised to find them in 1753 but I'm sure it's them. On Marianna's
marriage to Antonio Pereira her parents are given as Joam de Sousa Cardoso/a?
and Isabel do Rosario and since men sometimes take their mother's name as well
as their father's I think that's what he did. That puts their marriage 21 years
before Marianna's presumed birth date but I've seen that with my Pereira family
so I know it's possible. With your information I'm wondering if I should look
in Santo Amaro for Marianna's birth instead of Velasmaybe they moved there
and that's why I couldn't find her anywhere in Velas in the 1770's. Thanks for
your helpnow I know Isabel's parents names. I wish the records from these
times gave the ages of the couple since it's a valuable clue when looking for
birth records! Also, I couldn't tell if Joam was the son Of Joam Teixeira or
Pereira and now Peixeiro? is in the mix. Perhaps someone else will give insight
into that surname. I have Peixodo's in my record but I've never seen Peixeiro
before. I'll spend tomorrow looking for Marianna in Santo Amaro baptisms for
1770's and hope I have more luck!
On another note, I remember we're cousins from Candelaria and while at the
conference in SLC I discovered 2 more cousins...sister who were there, also
with Candelaria ancestors...perhaps they match with you as well.
Thanks again,Nancy Jean

 Nancy,

I'm going to take a wild stab at the basics and let others shoot me down:
9 Jan 1753 for the date.
Joam de Sousa, son of Joam (Peixeiro ) and Luzia Cardoza, natural of Sto.
 Amaro
  and
Isabel do Rosario, daughter of Joam Machado Costa and (Micaela) do Rosario of
 this matrix.

Among the signatures at the end of the record it shows a Joam Machado (Rocha)
Costa along with Vital Pereira Fagundes.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: great grandpa help

2012-05-08 Thread E Sharp
Mike,

Could this be the marriage record for your Joe Pine? They may have the
parents mixed up as I notice Mary is living with an Antone Perry and Mary
Perry so I assume this is her parents?

Massachusetts, Town Vital Collections, 1620-1988 Name: Mary Perry
Mary Perry
Birth Date: abt 1899
Event Type: Marriage
Event City: Dartmouth
Marriage Date: 19 May 1917
Marriage Age: 18
Father Name:Antoia Leal (probably Antonio)
Mother Name:Mary Leal
Spouse Name:Joseph Pine
Spouse Marriage Age:23
Spouse Father Name: Joseph Silvera
Spouse Mother Name: Louise Silvera (not Mary)

If you think this is them, you could go/call NB Vitals and ask them for the
paper they filled out to obtain the marriage certificate. It contains much
more info than the marriage certificate. It will cost you about $20 if you
think this could be them.

2012-05-08 Thread Gayle Machado
Nancy Jean,

I'm always looking for more cousins. I find the migration patterns fascinating.
If you remember who these people you met are, maybe we can find a connection.
No rush. I have to get through finals week next week before I have time to play.

Take care,

Gayle

On Marianna's
marriage to Antonio Pereira her parents are given as Joam de Sousa Cardoso/a?

as their father's I think that's what he did.
