[AZORES-Genealogy] Altares, Terceira records prior to 1644

2013-04-18 Thread Kawika322
I am trying to trace my Altares line back and have come to a stop for the
moment as the records are not present prior to 1644 (Baptisms) and 1648
(Marriages). My ancestor is Belchior Goncalves de Carvalho who was married
to Maria Goncalves. Their son Manuel Goncalves Carvalho was married prior
to 1646 to Maria de Melo presumably in Altares (as this is where all of
their children were born) and once before that to Catharina Pereira in Se,
Terceira on 1 Feb 1633. Through the earlier marriage record I was able to
get the names of his parents of Belchior Goncalves Carvalho and Maria
Goncalves.

Any suggestions where I might go from there to get the generation before
Belchior? Do records exist prior to 1644 in Altares, or were they destroyed
or part of another parish before that?

Thanks,

 David

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Isabel de castro

2013-04-18 Thread Dano
I did a little research myself, and, this what I found on Isabel de Castro:

There are several persons in Spanish history named Isabel de Castro. One was
Isabel de Castro Osorio who was part of the Spanish Royal Family, but, lived
quite a bit later than Alfonso XI. She may, however, have descended from him.
That is about as far as I can go with this, as, I am not schooled Spanish
history, and my family research does not link notably with many of the
characters found in the history of Spain.

As for your research, if you're looking for links to Isabel de Castro, I think
you need to concentrate on Spanish genealogy, at least until you find
definite links to Portuguese figures.

[AZORES-Genealogy] de faria Family

Hello:

Does anyone have any information on Andre de Faria born November 26, 1746 ,
Rabo de Peixe, son of Domingos da Costa and Antonia de faria. he married on
August 19, 1767 to Maria de Sao Jose Rodrigues. Maria's father was Jose
Rodrigues and Engracia Cabral. Andre died February 18, 1823.

I am looking for information for Domingos da Costa and his family and
ancestors. I would say that the family is from Rabo de Peixe, Azores. His
parents may have been Tome Da Costa and Maria Nunes Rodrigues, not sure.

Thanks

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Graciosa Indexing

2013-04-18 Thread Kalani N
Aloha e Kawika,

I was just at the FHC today going thru some recs of S. Mateus SC looking
for my family since I'm not sure what part they were from. If you wouldn't
mind looking up these names where they were from is all I need to know.
Mahalo!

José Augusto d'Avila, b. around 1869
Pedro d'Avila b. around 1870

Both are sons of Augusto José d'Avila Helena d'Encarnação.

Augusto José d'Avila b. around 1838: son of José Correia de Mello Maria
Clara
Helena d'Encarnação b. Mar 1849
They were married around 1867.

Augusto José and Helena are from Graciosa. I just don't know if their
children were born on the island too. Definitely José Correia de Mello is
from there since I see his surname repeated all over in both S.M. and S.C.

Any help in pinpointing where the family is from would be helpful. Once I
know, then I can order the correct film from the specific area. Mahalo
again!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Portuguese English dictionary

I think Tomas said it pretty much, and I'd have to agree with the part
where maybe on the continent they may understand you more than in the
islands. Question is, will you be able to understand their Portuguese? :)
I find some dialects harder to understand, much more so than those on the
continent, although now I am slowly recognizing a lot more words than what
I did nearly 20 years ago. Just takes getting used to.

They were married around 1867.

Augusto José and Helena are from Graciosa. I just don't know if their

I would recommend the Family Finder test. The family finder will have
matches which will be within the last 4-5 generations. If you don't know
where your family came from that will give you a good idea where to start

Hi David,Manuel Goncalves Carvalho and Maria de Melo are also my ancestors.I do know about all the others you mentioned and presume there must be a close relation, but as yet, I haven't pieced together any facts leading to my Manuel Goncalves Carvalho being the same one who married Catarina Pereira. But I haven't yet completed my early Altares baptism research to see who all the padrinhos were. Maybe that's where you made this leap back.My line continues with their daughter Beatriz de Melo. Which of their children is your line?As for the records of Altares, that's all there are. To: azores@googlegroups.com

I am trying to trace my Altares line back and have come to a stop for the moment as the records are not present prior to 1644 (Baptisms) and 1648 (Marriages). My ancestor is Belchior Goncalves de Carvalho who was married to Maria Goncalves. Their sonManuel Goncalves Carvalho was married prior to 1646 to Maria de Melo presumably in Altares (as this is where all of their children were born) and once before that to Catharina Pereira in Se, Terceira on 1 Feb 1633. Throughthe earliermarriage record I was able to get the names of his parents of Belchior Goncalves Carvalho and Maria Goncalves. Any suggestions where I might go from there to get the generation before Belchior? Do records exist prior to 1644 in Altares, or were they destroyed or part of another parish before that? Thanks, David --

I need help reading a name from a birth record which I have attached. It is #5 which begins at the bottom left hand side of the page and continues at the top right. The name of the child is Regina. The name of the father is Francisco__ (I cannot read what comes after his name)The name of the mother is Maria da GloriaI can't make out the name of the Godparents either.I think I have been able to pick out that Francisco is from the Village of Praia on the Island of Graciosa, that his mother is named Maria Espirito Santo. The parents of Maria da Gloria are Manuel Machado and Maria Isabela.Thank you in advance for help in reading this document.

David,It's interesting what you found about the parents of the single mother Maria do Espirito Santo. It isn't stated in the marriage, but when Francisco married, he might not have known it was to a cousin. They are related in the the 3º e 4º grau de consanguinidade. Common ancestors are Bezerra.Doug da Rocha HolmesSacramento, CaliforniaPico Terceira Genealogist916-550-1618www.dholmes.com

Sheri, I found the baptismal record for Francisco Jose Dutra. He was born on 4 Nov 1865 in Sao Matheus, Praia, Graciosa and baptized on 5 Nov 1865. His mother is listed as Maria do Espirito Santo, and she is a native of Santa Barbara (Ribeiras), Pico. The father is listed as unknown. Maternal grandparents are listed as Jose Pereira and Maria do Espirito Santo. They are natives of Santa Barbara (Ribeiras), Pico. I am attaching the baptismal record I made a copy of at the Family History Center. You can find more info going back on the maternal grandparents Jose Pereira and Maria do Espirito Santo on the University of Minho website in the Lajes do Pico, Ribeiras section. http://www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt/geneweb/gwd.exe?b=Ribeiras;lang=en;p=jose;n=pereira;oc=2On the website link, the mother of Francisco Jose Dutra is presumably the youngest child of Jose Pereira and Maria do Espirito Santo, born 25 Jan 1820. Hope this info helps, and let me know if you have any other questions. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family Tree DNA Sale

2013-04-18 Thread Cheri Mello
OK, to add a little perspective.
Sale price first, then group price (when you join the Azores Project...or
if you have Aunt Wilma join the German Project for your German side. Group
prices are better than the regular retail price).*
*
*
Full MtDNA Sequence = $189 (Group = $299, Retail = same)
Upgrades to FMS = $129 (depends on your previous level of testing)
Y-DNA37 (new and add-on) = $119 (Group = $149, Retail = $169)
Y-DNA67 (new and add-on) = $199 **(Group = $238, Retail = $268)
Y-DNA37 + Full MtDNA Sequence = $308 *
*(Group = $??, Retail = $409)
*
*[Family Finder = FF]
*
*Y-DNA12 + FF…. $218 **(Group = $339, Retail = same)
Y-DNA37 + FF…. $288 **(Group = $438, Retail = same)
Y-DNA67 + FF…. $368 **(Group = $557, Retail = same)
Family Finder $169 **(Group = $289, Retail = same)
Family Finder + Full MtDNA Sequence=$358 **(Group = $559, Retail = same)
SuperDNA….$388 (Y-DNA 67 + FMS) *
*(Group = $518, Retail = $548)
Comprehensive DNA…. $557 (Y-67 + FMS + FF) **(Group = $797, Retail = $837)*

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Family Tree DNA Sale

2013-04-18 Thread Richard Francis Pimentel
This sale was a complete surprise for us admins. We had no advance notice on
it although we did think there would be short sale sometime before summer we
were thinking it would be only one produce like the Family Finder Sale last
year.

Grrr! There was mention a few weeks ago about a fast sale so we need to act
fast and June or summer time was mentioned. So I figured I had time, so
TODAY I got an email conformation that my DNA kit from 23andme is being sent
out.

Guess I'll have to act on this one now too, although, I have no idea what
the discount really is. But thanks for the heads up!

Y-DNA37 (new and add-on).. $119

Your Kit number and password of the test you want to upgrade. If you want a
new test for (Auntie Wilma) to take then use the join project button.

This is a very short sale so you need to act fast. As far as I know there
will still be a summer sale but I do not think there will be as good a
pricing.

I and the Co-Administrators are unpaid volunteers and receive no
compensation for our work with Family Tree DNA. We do this because we have
an interest in DNA testing and desire to help our fellow Azoreans with DNA
testing.

If you have any questions about testing you can direct them to this list of
if you desire any of the Co-Administrators below.
