2013-05-14 Thread Cheri Mello
Ellen A,

Passaportes (emigration out of the Azores) are online for the port of Ponta
Delgada on Sao Miguel island only. Here's the Passaporte link:
http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig/passaportes/Default.aspx

Pick Ponta Delgada from the drop down, then click the button (Procurar).
You will see 1905 is split, so you will need to check both, looking for a
Francisco da Silva whose father was an Henrique.

Good luck,

Jason B,

The Flores records are online at the CCA site here:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig/

Click on Flores, pick Lajes das Flores for the council/concelho, then Faja
Grande for your freguesia. Go to the 1877 births and search for your
ancestor. He will be listed as Antonio. Hope you have his parents' names,
as Antonio is very common.

Please Help,

During my family tree research, I have hit a brick wall when it comes to my
Azores side.

My Great Grandfather is,

Antone Joseph Mendonca was born on August 4th, 1877 in Faji Grande,

Azores. He died on December 2nd, 1944 in Merced, California. He married

Marie Ignacio Freitas.

Timeline:

Antone resided in 1935 in Merced, California.

He resided on April 1st, 1940 in Merced, California, United States.

He was born in 1878 in Portugal.

He resided in 1920 in Township 5, Merced, California.

Marie Ignacio Freitas was born on May 2nd, 1877 in Flores, Azores,

Portugal. She died on March 5th, 1943 in Merced, California.

Timeline:

Marie resided in 1920 in Township 5, Merced, California.

She resided in 1935 in Merced, California.

She resided on 1 Apr 1940 in Merced, California, United States.

I have not been able to find any direct sources of their births in the
Azores. I have plenty of sources for when they were living in California.
But its like a black hole, once i hit Azores. Can anyone help?

[AZORES-Genealogy] Silva, born 1881 Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel island to Connecticut

2013-05-14 Thread Cheri Mello
Repost for Ellen Ade, eaade09 at smumn.edu

I am trying to find a record of my grandfather
arriving in the US or leaving Azores. the US census has him arriving in
1905, he settled in CT. His name was Francisco da Silva born 1881 in
Mosteiros, Ponta Delgado, San Miguel. His father was Henrique da Silva
also of that village. I have no idea if he came alone - I believe he had a
brother Manuel. Any suggestions where I can look?

Nancy Jean,

I have the same couple in my database as my 6th great grandparents, also
from Candelaria, but the birthdates are in 1668 and 1666 and I do not have a
marriage date. The data is from the NEPS database, but doesn’t sound right
because Madalena would have been 60 when the daughter Francisca Inacia was
born (1726). The links to the data for Alexandre are

http://www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt/geneweb/gwd.exe?b=FETEIRA;lang=en;p=alexandrre;
n=ferreira, and

http://www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt/geneweb/gwd.exe?b=cmadalena&lang=en&m=NG&n=Alex
andre++Ferreira&t=PN

I am not sure how to interpret this information at this point. Do you have
data from a different source?

Hi David,

Yes, my "Silveira Cardoso's" are in CITCEM/NEPS database. To find ANTONIO
SILVEIRA CARDOSO you need to look under his wife's name, ANA ROSALIA JESUS
MARIA (b. 1749, Lajes). I noticed that they have now added "PEIXOTO" to
his name. He is my 5th great grandfather.

JOSE SILVEIRA CARDOSO (1717-1791) is the father of ANA ROSALIA JESUS
MARIA. He is my 6th great grandfather. You can see him listed as such in the
database.

These are all in my direct line. I will send you some of my MACHADO

Alda, I will certainly see what they have to say. You should plan to
attend the conference in Salt Lake City next year! Cheri and I are still
trying to set a date. It will be easier in the future because I'm retiring
this June so we will just have to work around Cheri's school schedule.

   Good Morning Listers,

Just wanted to let you know that I will be lecturing on Portuguese
Genealogy on Saturday, May 18th in Merced CA. The Merced County
 Genealogy
Soc. is having their monthly meeting at the Merced County Library at
 2100
“O” St., Merced from 12—3pm. There will be a brief meeting and then my
talk. I would love to see some of the listers face-to-face if you can
 make
it! I spoke in Merced about 5 years ago and it was a fun time meeting
 fellow genealogists in the area.

If you have other questions you can go to the Society’s website at:
www.rootsweb.com/~camcgs. The meetings are held in the basement in
 the
 Graecy Room.

 Thank you, Rosemarie (Capodicci)

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] BIBLIOTECA PUBLICA E ARQUIVO DE PONTA DELGADA Archive Requests

2013-05-14 Thread João Ventura
Hi Denis,

You have to ask the "Registro Civil" of the municipality that covers those
records. Or if you can read Portuguese, you can try to register in the
"Certidoes Online" service
(http://www.portaldocidadao.pt/portal/pt/certidoes_online/hp.htm) and order
one. Note that records via this portal will cost 10x more than the
non-certified records which usually suffice for genealogical use However,
you'll need to go physically to the Records Office to ask for those (or ask
a family member).
