RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Genealogy Software

2014-06-14 Thread pico
Maria, out of curiosity, if  you renumber people, are you talking about the number that is automatically assigned to them as you enter in new people? If that's the case, then what if you decide you want person 111 to be number 10 now? What happens to the person who is already number 10? Do they switch to being number 111? Or am I on the wrong track? It might not have any relevance, but in my program, Brother's Keeper, if I want one of my own direct ancestors to have a lower number, I have to first vacate the number by entering in a new person and then renaming the person with that number. I just use X for something handy. Then I take that person named X and rename them as my own ancestor. I attach them to the right spouse, parents and children and their old number is now named X and I can use that person as another person in another family. This way I never "delete" a person and never have a false number of people in my database. I usually keep "good" numbers that I want to save for my own ancestors named X until I find an ancestor for that number.Since I don't use the other programs, this method might not be understandable and a pure waste of time to try explaining it. :-)As for the size of your database, 2000 seems impossibly small to cause any program to have problems.I'm at over 240,000 people and over 98,000 marriages and it's as fast as ever.Doug da Rocha HolmesPico & Terceira Genealogist=Get ready for NFL Fantasy Football and join me in the newly created Azores Genealogist League. Sorry I wasn't clear.   Transcription field: A field where you can enter the transcribe information that keeps it connected with the document.  Some have a description field which isn't really meant for adding the transcription. I own the current version of Family Tree Maker. FTM is user friendly good program, but limited (godparents and witness have to be added in comments).  I've out  grown it.  Also, once my tree went past 2000 individual it started having hiccups, freezing, stop working and closing.   I was looking at the scrambled data, trying to see if I could fix it or just rebuild.  I'm finding the parish birth, marriage and deaths records are now attached to other people or not connected to anyone.  If no surname was entered it move the given name to the surname field.  It's going to be faster and easier to just rebuild.  Thankfully, I saved all my research and data in different forms so it will just take time to get everything back to where it was. I just want to avoid doing this again and find a program that meets my needs. I've down loaded the 30 day trial of TMG and was just looking at Legacy Reviews.  RootsMagic doesn't import on-line sources or let you renumber people.   Maria     es.

Maria,

If you feel you've outgrown FTM, you may have that same feeling with
RootsMagic (or so says the reviews). So I'd check out TMG and Legacy.

You also may want to check out their User Groups and see if they have any
in your area.

2014-06-14 Thread IslandRoutes
Margaret,
I think you missed my post a couple of days ago. There was some confusion
over whether there was one or two Miguel do Monte's in Achada. It turns
out there were two, father and son, and both married women of the same
name. The births from 1758 onward belong to the son and his wife. It was
sorted out by the birth place of the parents: Miguel do Monte, the father,
was born in Achadinha, and his wife, Thereza Furtado was born in Agua
Retorta. Miguel do Monte, the son, and his wife Thereza Furtada were born
born in Achada. This was also clarified by the use of Mancebo after the
son's name in the baptismals which someone defined as meaning "the
younger".

Miguel do Monte, the father, died 16 Jul 1764, Achada, and his wife
Thereza Furtada died 15 Jan 1762 in Achada

Miguel do Monte, the son, died 28 Apr 1810, Achada and his wife, Thereza
Furtada died 9 Nov 1806, Achada

These are the children of Miguel do Monte, the son, and Thereza Furtada:

Hope this helps sort it out. If you connect to Joze Furtado and Antonia

their daughter, Rosa Pimentel who married Jose Francisco de Mello.

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Genealogy Software

2014-06-14 Thread Diane George
Maria,

Legacy does not have a “transcription” field, however there is a field to
record the data from a source so you could do the transcription in that field
or copy it from some other source into that field. The information would appear
in the Source detail for the fact supported. For example, if you have a baptism
record, you would include the transcription/translation in the Source detail
for the baptism, birth and any other information in the record.

You can create additional Event/Fact fields for the Godparents and Witnesses.

As Cheri indicated, you can generate web pages from your data and there is a
way to store DNA results.

Go to http://legacyfamilytree.com to see which features are in the Standard
(free) edition versus the Deluxe ($29.95 for the download version and $39.95
for the CD version).

Let me know if you want more details.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Anyone researching Antonio do Monte/Agada Rapozo Achada/Nordestinho?

2014-06-14 Thread Aaron Pereira

Hello,

Here is the link to what is suspected as being the marriage record of
Miguel de Monte and Maria Furtada

bottom recordpage is torn, so you can only make out the groom's name as
Miguel. January 17, 1717. I think a lister had found a marriage record of
a possible brother or sister of Miguel de Monte. I got the year and day of
marriage from the Canto index Cheri had posted.
