[AZORES-Genealogy] Granny Gomes in Brazil from Portugal to Hawaii
Repost for Carolyn, palolopenguin at cox.net I'm new to the Azores-Genealogy site and I love checking it out everyday. My problem is bringing up the information once you get on there. I'm talking about the left hand side kinda looks like a tablet with muito numbers. I don't know how to get that information, anyway, Gomes is my family name on my father's side. Both his parents have the same name (cousins). She was born in Brazil, but said her family came to Brazil from Portugal with the Portugese goverment. I don't know when and from where in Portugal. I have documents that I have translated of the birth, marriage of my Granny Gomes, then documents of their marriage. Then the trail is lost. Some how my greatfather got to Hawaii around 1840's. Can't find how and when he got to Hawaii, but my grammps was born in Naaleihu on the big island. My gramps went to Portugal sometime around 1911-13 then went to Brazil so he could marry my granny. I checked census, etc. my cousin and I keep hitting walls. If there is a website to help me learn Portuguese Genealogy please let me know so I can become better and not have to be a boob and trouble you. Muito obrigada for all your all the hours you and your staff work on this love for ancestors. *If at all possible please e-mail your response to my e-mail address palolo...@cox.net. Bless all of you in this great work of finding our lost reltives. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Notas Historicas
Suzanne, I don't think so but someone in the Azores may know for sure. At least it has an index in the back of Vol. #2 which helps! I wish someone would index *Familias da Faialenses*!! There is so much genealogy there but no index! Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] People with Faial ancestry
Hi Donna, Yes, I have both names several times by the three Avo's - Furtado - one was my paternal grandmothers dad originally from Sao Miguel and moved to Faial. Others from north of the island. Dutra I have many. My maternal Vava has Dutra back to D' Ultra. She is from Castelo Branco and her family goes back to the Flanders Belgium folks. My other grandparents from Salao (before that Cedros) have Dutras as well. I want to add, my records may not be that helpful I only have a bit over 1000 and direct descendants (all my great grands so to speak) back to 15/1600s. I have none of their siblings and only some of my grts-grand children. I have been trying to fill in the siblings as it has been challenging to be contacted by a DNA cousin only to try and figure out how we connect. There are several hundred showing up as DNA cousins (my test was with 23andme) but we have to go back to 18-1500s to find who our mutual grandparents are. A person here native to Faial that works on genealogy told me I have "many, many, many cousins" all over Faial and the Azores because two of my grandparents are from original families that arrived. It became overwhelming. With my limited tree I will help if there is anything I can do but I don't go online much, or visit groups regularly. I pop on FB more often now in the Azores group, check my emai but even that sometimes a month has gone by before I logged on. I stay very busy with life in Faial but am willing to share! :) Di- -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] trans help
I'm afraid not. She did not leave a will, and most people don't. They seldom do, except where it might name one family member who is responsible for carrying out the last wishes, so many prayers, etc...occasionally it will reference some property and make reference to a will and a Tabeliao, like a lawyer or notary. Then you would have to look that up. JR On Sunday, January 3, 2016 at 1:25:04 PM UTC-5, Lizmig wrote: > > Thank you > Does it say something about 3 sons?
