Yup, I think Bill's correct.

I was so focused on finding the dates in the records that I missed that the
names didn't match those in the OP. Poor attention to detail.

thanks Bill!

The one you identify as Maria Terra I see as Rosa, daughter of João
Ferreira Goularte (using the abbreviations Ferr.a G.te). It is consistent
in both records that Ferr.a ends with a dot under a raised "a". The dot
signifies an abbreviation. If you were thinking this was Terra, I think
you may have the wrong record.

I could be wrong so I have attached the links to the CCA records so other

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Translation Help Please!

2016-03-13 Thread linda

Hi J,

Welcome to the group! And congratulations on finding those records :D

The dates in the 19th century records are typically written out in words.
Here's a clip of the information you asked for in Maria's record.

The birthday starts with the last word in the first line, "nasceo".
"...nasceo aos des e seis de Fev.ro de mil outo centos cincouenta, e cinco
em o dia vinte dad.o mez, e anno foi baptisada..."

so, Maria was born on the 16th of February 1855 and baptised on the 20th of
the same month.

If I read it right, Joao was born on 30 April 1851 and baptized on the 6th
of May.

The red arrows you added to point to the entries were really helpful. I
think the preferred protocol for posting records on this forum is to post a
link to the CCA records, though. It does make it easier to use the
built-in magnification and up-scaling to view the records on a variety of
browser platforms.

best of luck in your research!

Linda

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Help with marriage and birth please.

2016-03-13 Thread JR
Are you sure the father's name has Seixas? I don't see that in the marriage
record. The questionable name on the other side is Freytas (Freitas). Best
advice is to look around the neighbouring parishes, like Sao Pedro or Sao
Jose. You might even find them in Lagoa.

the CCA record. That way we can make the image larger and zoom in on what

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Big help

2016-03-13 Thread bsei2816
Groom: Jose Silveira, son of Matheus Silveira, deceased, and his wife Rita
Maria
Bride: Rita Maria, daughter of Jose?(J.e?) Garcia, deceased, and his wife
Anna Maria
Bride and Groom are both from this parish.

The reference to 1836 is about lent obligations. Bride and groom were both
"disobrigado" for the lent of 1836 at this parish and the groom was for the
last two also. The bride was "disobrigada" for the last two at Nossa
Senhora da Conceicao in the city of Horta. I'm not sure if I am stating
this correctly because I am familiar with church practices and am not sure
what being disobligated for the last three lents really means; but I know
that it is usually stated in these records. Someone in this group posted a
record recently that showed a dispensation given so some who had not
satisfied this could marry.

Is the madrinha, Reverend Mother Anna Margarida Joaquina of the religious
order Santo Andre of Villa Franca? I am confident of her name, it is the
abbreviations before her name and the two words after her name that I am
unsure of.

Thank you in advance,

Wow, that is great information on the grooms' father's and brides father!
Thank you all for your help! I was hoping that the brides daughter
learned her spintress vocation from her mother that's why I asked. Thanks
again!

Lillian,
That's what I coul read:

"...ela, de idade de vinte e um annos, cuja ocupação ordinária é o serviço
doméstico, natural de ..."

...she, 21 years old, single, whose regular occupation is domestic service...

(Domestic services - 6th line from botton to top, right side).
