Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Death Certificates

2016-04-21 Thread Cheri Mello
When I used to accompany my mom to the doctor, I gave him a pedigree chart
listing the cause of death for her ancestors. Only problem with my mom's
family is mostly they were rural people and the doctors back in time
weren't like today's doctors at all. She had a lot of people just dying of
"old age." They just didn't know back then.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Death Certificates

2016-04-21 Thread carabela via Azores Genealogy
I am a collector of death certificates for health reason for my family. I'm
with you on that one! It is important for descendants to know what they might
be able to prevent or watch for. Death certificates can be very helpful! They
should be as correct as possible!

Years ago, my Mom was having a physical & a heart issue showed up. The Dr.
asked her if there were heart problems in the family. She told him there were
none that she knew of. She called to tell me about her Dr. visit. I told her
there were many heart problems on one side. I sent her a pedigree chart with
the causes of death written on it. It was helpful to her & her Dr.

People assume vital records are accurate. We forget that humans are filling
them out & as we all know, "human's make mistakes". I think it is important to
correct vital records when we find errors. Future generations may need them.

The cause was the lung cancer! I felt for our descendants looking at death
certificates there was a big difference between a lung cancer then a
genetically passed breast cancer. The doctor was not happy, but he finally
issued a new certificate.

I can’t decipher all the contents of the columns, but the face shape includes
round, colors include brown, black and blue, coloring includes swarthy and
clear. Still working on some of the others that might be abbreviated.

I saved the page from CCA to my desktop, then used the built-in Windows Photo
viewer (Windows 10-Photos) by double-clicking on the image. I was able to
enlarge it to a much higher magnification than on the CCA site. The Photo
viewer also has some built-in editing tools that allow you to enhance the
image.

Hope this helps some.
