2016-07-24 Thread linda

Hi Lee,

Simon, I think. The "S" for Sao Matheus looks about the same. Also the
child was baptised at home by the priest because they feared her life was
in peril.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Question for the Group: How do you handle a situation like this?

2016-07-24 Thread Theresa Entin
You are correct about the Antonio Curvelo Catalao genealogy I too have the RR
info. Like you I didn’t think the dates were a good match. I am sure that
they are connected but there is a missing generation. To me it is too much of
a difference to make the call and connect them I guess you could always connect
him to an “Unknown”.

I wonder how other genealogist would handle this situation or a situation like
this?

This is what I wrote in an earlier post RE: Sebastiao Jacome Resendes. Theresa

2016-07-24 Thread Maria Lima
Beautiful notation- I just learned from it. Thank u for sharing with me how u
handle this gap. Some years ago I posted about Sebastiao Jacome de Resendes
and someone emailed me the RR geneaology going back to Mestre Antonio
curvelho(?) but I had no documentation. From what I remember, the dates for
Sebastiao didn't fit.

I'm going to look for the marriages of his children. If I find any, I'll send
u the links.
The mystery continues...

Maria Santos lived in the early 1600's. The one I'm researching died in

What through me off also was that you ALSO have the same Sebastiao
married to Maria da Costa and their children; the one on working on.

The data I have on them is public on familysearch.org and I welcome it if
you took a look at it to compare notes. I could send you the number
associated with Sebastiao and Maria da Costa if you want. So you could
just plug in the number and they would pop up (so to speak). Haha. Here's
his number: L6L8-XJ9. With that number you'll find her too.

I have had confusion with the latter Sebastiao because the death record
said he was 60 when he died in 1735. Based on that, I calculated he was
13 when he married and had his first son, Manoel, born 1688. But you had
other information and said he was 21. Do you think the words "more or
less" be 10 years range? Can you tell me where you got his birth year? I
looked for his marriage years ago and I don't think it's there but am
 going to try again.

I have so many questions but gotta run for now.

Maria, bottom right

Finally found the record I've been looking for.

Maria, daughter of Josefa Joaquina, single, who was the daughter of Jose
L/Simons??? and Maria Joaquina.

Born November 3, 1810 (when her mother was about 14/15 years old).

I need help with the name of Josefa's father Jose L/Simons

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Descendant Report (Family Tree Maker)

2016-07-24 Thread Theresa Entin
I’m not sure where his birth record came from, this was done many years ago. I
know that there were no written records in S. Espirito for marriages. I may
have just used a 20 year rule of thumb to determine the date of marriage or the
date of birth. What I do know, is that if I was positive of a connection I
would have put it in. If I made an educated guess I would put something like
this into the notes:

"This is not a proven connection. It is my speculation because there were no
other families in this time frame with the same last names. It matches but it
is not proven because of the limited number of written records available at
this time. These families are also connected through the baptismal records of
their children.”

So that is the only explanation I have Sebastio’s date of birth. Theresa

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family secret? Mystery - Sao Mateues, Terceira

2016-07-24 Thread 'Philippe GARNIER' via Azores Genealogy
Hi Lee,
Yes, it's possible. I have some cases in my data base. But, the mariage record
would be mentionned  a "dispensa por consanguinidade de 1° grao em linha
colateral" ou "1° e 2° grao de consanguinidade". It's not write, in your case.
Josefa Joaquina is a frequent surname. I have 12 Josefa Joaquina in my data
base (but not yours). The most probable is the priest wrote tio maternos (would
be a mistake), in place of tios paternos (I look that a lot of time). Then
Josefa Joaquina, wife of Manoel José Coelho, is the sister of Antônio da Rocha
Tristão and the paternal aunt of Maria.
Try to find the batism record of Maria do Carmo in São Mateus and , perhaps,
there are the parents of Josefa Joaquina, mother of Maria do Carmo. If not, the
godparents could be indications.

Earlier I posted a question about the birth of Maria, daughter of Maria do
Carmo and husband Antonio da Rocha Tristtao about the padrinhos.
Now I have a real mystery/puzzle/family secret on my hands?
I am researching the family of Maria do Carmo and Antonio da Rocha Tristao;
below are sources/causes of my confusion (mystery/puzzle).
First, the marriage of Maria and Antonio
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-C-1831-1860/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-C-1831-1860_item1/P46.html

you can see that Maria's parents are given as Josefa Joquina and pai nao sabido
(unknown father).  And Antonio's parents are given as Francisco da Rocha
Tristao and Marianna Jacinta.
Second, the birth of Maria (posted earlier)
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-B-1852-1860/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-B-1852-1860_item1/P2.html
I figured out that the Tios materna meant "maternal uncles/aunt"; but does it
mean Manoel Jose Coelho or Josefa Joquina?  (Remmber, Maria do Carmo's mother
was a Josefa Joaquina per her marriage above.
And, third, the marriage of Josefa Joaquina and Manoel Jose Coelho
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-C-1831-1860/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-C-1831-1860_item1/P45.html

Her parents are not listed, but she is the widow of one Joaquin Jose Brasil who
died in/is buried is Sao Pedro.
Last, the marriage of Josefa Joaquina and Joaquin Jose Brasil in Sao Pedro
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-SAOPEDRO-C-1820-1843/TER-AH-SAOPEDRO-C-1820-1843_item1/P82.html

Her parents are listed as Francisco da Rocha Tristao and Marianna Jacina, who
are the parents of Antonio da Rocha Tristato (first marriage record above) who
married Maria do Carmo, daughter of a Josefa Joaquina, who is listed has her
mother in the same record above (1st one).
My conundrum, did Maria do Carmo marry her uncle
I can tell you, this one is driving me a little by crazy.  It's keeps going in
circles and circlesI think Josefa Joaquina and the family were trying to
hide something (or someone).
Any suggestions/comments/ideas appreciated.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Family secret? Mystery - Sao Mateues, Terceira

2016-07-24 Thread Lee
Earlier I posted a question about the birth of Maria, daughter of Maria do
Carmo and husband Antonio da Rocha Tristtao about the padrinhos.

Now I have a real mystery/puzzle/family secret on my hands?

I am researching the family of Maria do Carmo and Antonio da Rocha Tristao;
below are sources/causes of my confusion (mystery/puzzle).

First, the marriage of Maria and Antonio

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-C-1831-1860/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-C-1831-1860_item1/P46.html

you can see that Maria's parents are given as Josefa Joquina and pai nao
sabido (unknown father). And Antonio's parents are given as Francisco da
Rocha Tristao and Marianna Jacinta.

Second, the birth of Maria (posted earlier)

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-B-1852-1860/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-B-1852-1860_item1/P2.htm

l

I figured out that the Tios materna meant "maternal uncles/aunt"; but does
it mean Manoel Jose Coelho or Josefa Joquina? (Remmber, Maria do Carmo's
mother was a Josefa Joaquina per her marriage above.

And, third, the marriage of Josefa Joaquina and Manoel Jose Coelho

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-C-1831-1860/TER-AH-SAOMATEUSCALHETA-C-1831-1860_item1/P45.html

Her parents are not listed, but she is the widow of one Joaquin Jose Brasil
who died in/is buried is Sao Pedro.

Last, the marriage of Josefa Joaquina and Joaquin Jose Brasil in Sao Pedro

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-SAOPEDRO-C-1820-1843/TER-AH-SAOPEDRO-C-1820-1843_item1/P82.html

Her parents are listed as *Francisco da Rocha Tristao and Marianna Jacina*,
who are the parents of Antonio da Rocha Tristato (first marriage record
above) who married Maria do Carmo, daughter of a Josefa Joaquina, who is
listed has her mother in the same record above (1st one).

My conundrum, did Maria do Carmo marry her uncle

I can tell you, this one is driving me a little by crazy. It's keeps going
in circles and circlesI think Josefa Joaquina and the family were
trying to hide something (or someone).

Any suggestions/comments/ideas appreciated.

Sean, you will be able to order the books via PayPal so no bank checks to
worry about. You will be charged the exchange rate but at my last check $15

The books are in Portuguese but they are in a form that is easily read.
Igor will be sending me the info on the new book and I'm sure that you will
be able to email him about the first book. Do you have any lines from Sao
Roque?? My one and only line from Pico is Sao Roque and the first book took
me back two more generations. I really hope that the second book will give
me more info on the line into Faial. Once you hope over to Faial you may be
able to connect with the book Familias Faialenses my Marcelino Lima. If you
hook up with one of those families you jump to Terceira and even to
Portugal on some lines.

Sean,
Igor Espinola de Franca has two books out now on Sao Roque do Pico which
ties many of the old founding families to families originally from Faial. I
bought his first book and it's great. His second will be previewing on July
29th and he will be letting us know how we may order. The first book was 20
Euros the second is 15 Euros. The good thing about the info is it started
with the Church records and now has expanded into using other records of
the islands.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Fwd: Descendant Report (Family Tree Maker)

2016-07-24 Thread Maria Lima
Hi Theresa

I had to really study the descendency chart yesterday. I kept trying to see
where my sebastiao (married to Maria da Costa) "FIT" into that chart. The
one in the chart is a sebastiao Jacome Resendes married to Maria Santos lived
in the early 1600's. The one I'm researching died in 1735. I'm embarrassed to
admit I didn't come to the conclusion that they were two different individuals
until this morning. I wanted it to be the same person and it tilted my
reasoning.

What through me off also was that you ALSO have the same Sebastiao married to
Maria da Costa and their children; the one on working on.

The data I have on them is public on familysearch.org and I welcome it if you
took a look at it to compare notes. I could send you the number associated
with Sebastiao and Maria da Costa if you want. So you could just plug in the
number and they would pop up (so to speak). Haha. Here's his number:
L6L8-XJ9. With that number you'll find her too.

I have had confusion with the latter Sebastiao because the death record said he
was 60 when he died in 1735. Based on that, I calculated he was 13 when he
married and had his first son, Manoel, born 1688. But you had other
information and said he was 21. Do you think the words "more or less" be 10
years range? Can you tell me where you got his birth year? I looked for his
marriage years ago and I don't think it's there but am going to try again.

I have so many questions but gotta run for now.

Thank you Manoel. Believe me I know about that priest. It is hardest I have

loops everything back into his letters making it almost impossible to read.

I have this record below, and I think this Maria Lourenco must be the same

they had two Maria's.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Manuel da Costa Carvalho from Vila Franca do Campo - S. MIguel - Ancestry

2016-07-24 Thread mances
I found this child born to Jorge Nunes and Maria Lourenço. See the link
below to realize how hard is to read this kind of record.

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-VF-SAOMIGUEL-B-1598-1615/SMG-VF-SAOMIGUEL-B-1598-1615_item1/P99.html

Right page, middle.
17 de abril de 1605 - Francisco filho de Jorge Nunes e de sua mulher Maria
Lourença.
Foram padrinhos Antonio da Mota e Isabel Roiz.

. Clara e Maria (gêmeas), b. 7.10.1607 - CCA #127. Pd: Manuel Zuzarte e
Catarina de Benevides, de Clara. Gaspar Correia e Ana Fernandes, de Maria.
. Maria, b. 13.12.1609 - CCA #146. Pd: Braz Gonçalves e Helena Gil.
. Manuel, b. 1.5.1612 - CCA #162. Pd: Bento da Fonseca e Isabel da Silva
Correia.
. Antonio, b. 8.1.1614 - CCA #174. Pd: Antonio Nunes e Ana Gomes.
. Miguel, b. 8.9.1615 - CCA #3. Pd: Matias da Mota e Isabel Tavares.

. Matriz de Vila Franca do Campo, 6.2.1658 - CCA #202, casamento de Pedro
do Monte, viúvo, com Maria da Fonseca, filha de Jorge Nunes e Maria
