Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] SECEIRO from Azores?

2016-08-30 Thread Margaret Vicente
Marjorie, your last email (DASILVIRA) da Silveira Anglicised to Seceiro is
very possible.

If you had a better idea as to approximate date of arrival in the USA I was
going to suggest for you to search through the CCA passports for the Faial
and Terceira islands.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Does anyone have Jose de Sousa Simao (Simoes) in their tree?

2016-08-30 Thread mances
Cathy,

I think your José de Sousa Simões and Antonia Francisca also went by José
de Sousa and Antonia de Resende. They married in São Roque on 14 feb 1768.
José de Sousa was the son of Simão de Sousa and Antonia da Costa.
Antonia de Resende was the daughter of Simão do Monte and Francisca de
Resende.

You should look for all the children born to José de Sousa and Antonia de
Resende in São Roque in order to see if Antonia de Resende also appears as
Antonia Francisca in the baptism records.

This José de Sousa with the patronymic Simões is the only one who married
an Antonia in that time period.

[AZORES-Genealogy] SECEIRO from Azores?

2016-08-30 Thread Marjorie Dutra
I've also found a Ana DASILVA BETANCORT (dob 1868) that married a Mannel
DASILVA BROWN in 1896 in the same city as Marianna VEINCIA SECEIRO (1867) in
Taunton, Massachusetts). They both have Izabel JOSEPHA listed as mother, but on
Anas marriage record, her father is listed as Silveira. So, that's why I'm
wondering if SILVEIRA and/or SILVA (she also used DASILVIRA once) is a
anglicisation of SECEIRO.

I don't have a timeframe. I can't find any definite ships or immigration

anglicisation of Seceiro. She also used DaSilva once.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Meneses or Menezes

2016-08-30 Thread JR
Thanks everyone. The link I am looking for is circa 1600. I have a Pedro
Curvello cc Maria Vultoa da Silva. I am reasonably certain they married
abt 1605-1610, probably in Vila Franca, Sao Miguel. It is possible the
Curvellos have a connection to the Meneses name. I know the Curvellos come
from St Maria and I was hoping there may be a connection.

everyone in the household (along with their ages and relationships) who had

I have another update on this research. I post a link to the Fiche de
Emigrant for Manuel Mello Castanho on my FB wall last night hoping one of
my cousin's cousins might recognize them. It worked! A cousin in MA has
confirmed that she knew them and went to school with the children.

And, then she gave me the detail I was waiting for. Her mother had told
her that Manuel's father, Francisco, was her grandmother's* twin. So, now
I have confirmation that Francisco and Engracia were twins and that Manuel
was Engracia's nephew.

It pays to share on FB. You never know who is going to have the
information you seek.

Bill, transcribing as I see it.

viuvo, "q.u mayu" dis lhe lancado neste termo ser sua filha.

I too am having trouble with the shortform, so I'm reading it like this.

...viuvo, qual mae diz-lhe lançado neste termo ser sua filha

..widower, named by the mother on this record, for she is his daughter

The 2nd godparent was not mandatory.

Hi Eliseu, I've been helping to look for a few names for my cousins maternal
ancestors and she has a Joao de Medeiros (born 1902) married to a Maria do
Patrocina and another Joao de Medeiros (born 1871) married to a Maria Jose de
Andrade. Their records show that they lived in Ribeira Seca but baptisms and
marriages were in Sao Miguel church in Vila Franca do Campo

[AZORES-Genealogy] Manadas Sao Jorge 1854 Baptism

2016-08-30 Thread bsei2816
This is the baptism of my wife's GG-grandmother, Maria, born 18 May 1854
and baptized on 22 May in Santa Barbara das Manadas, Sao Jorge. (lower
right and continues on next page)

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SJR-VL-MANADAS-B-1844-1860/SJR-VL-MANADAS-B-1844-1860_item1/P83.html

I'd like help with the words that start after viuvo on line 4 up to the
word termo at the end of the line. I think it is about the father
acknowledging the child, but I can't make the words out.

I believe I have the names, but I posted them below in case any need
correcting.

The mother is Rosa Ignacia, single, daughter of Joao Jose da Silveira and
his wife Izabel Ignacia.

The father is Antonio da Silveira de Avila, widower. The godfather is Jose
Silveira de Avila, son of the baptized's father (the baby's half brother).
 I see no godmother listed.

Thanks,
Bill Seidler
