[AZORES-Genealogy] Guinea Pig needed for DNA Utility

2016-10-08 Thread Cheri Mello
I made another guide to the Autosomal DNA Utility that I was using in SLC.
I tried to make it step by step with pictures. I'd like someone to try it
out before I release it for public consumption. You'll need to have your
DNA tested with FTDNA (Family Finder test). Email me directly at gfscherim
at gmail.com

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] ***UPEC ... early membership records now online***

2016-10-08 Thread Mary Bordi
Thank you so much! I am interested in the history of my particular area as
well as my genealogy. There are so many familiar names from Pescadero and
Half Moon Bay.

It's interesting that some bookkeepers only wrote Açores, some just the
island and some the village. My great grandfather was one with just
"Açores" but no matter--I know where he was from. On the other hand the
husband of my grandmother's cousin is listed by village and
island--something I did not know!

And there are quite a few non Portuguese listed, too. And I'm not done
looking, either!

Vey very interesting!

ago and they are under the umbrella of PFSA. That stands for the Portuguese

OK, I'll say it again, in a different way
UPEC
U= Uniao (Untied)
P= Portuguesa (Portuguese)
(of the - not part of the acronyn)
E= Estado (State)
(of - not part of the acronym)
C= California

Uniao Portuguese da Estado de California (United Portuguese of the State of
California). UPEC. Take the capital letter of each of the Portuguese words
and there you go.

It's like a Portuguese fraternal society.

For the last several years, Susan Vargas Murphy and I have been digitally
copying the UPEC membership records that have been filmed by the Family History
Library. In the past, I have offered to do lookups from the records I have but
that won’t be necessary any longer. I have put these records into my Dropbox
and the links are on this page as shareable files:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~azrwgw/research-aids-a---l/fraternal-societies/upec-records.html

You do NOT have to have a Dropbox account in order to see these records. You
can view them or download them to your own Dropbox (if you have one) or to your
computer.

On the marriage, it says "de functo" after Agueda's dad. He's deceased.

I can't enlarge the baptism enough to make it out. Maybe when I get home.
Or maybe someone else will answer by then.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Translation Verification

2016-10-08 Thread 'j Bc' via Azores Genealogy
 Hello. I believe that the person marrying on the top right entry of

 Is Agada daughter of Matthias Texeira De __ and Barbara Pereira de Sousa.
  I would like to know If I have the parents names right. Like the suffix of
the father's??? Furthermore, wether her birth record looks like the one second
up from the bottom right at the following link, which I am guessing reads
Agada born 14 Feb 1690 to Matthias Texeira __ and Barbara Pereira de
Sousa

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SJR-CH-RIBEIRASECA-B-1676-1698/SJR-CH-RIBEIRASECA-B-1676-1698_item1/P49.html

Just hoping to confirm because that both record is extremely ugly!

Hello! Does anyone know of where I may find telephone directories, address
books or any sort of directory for Sao Jorge or specifically calheta from

nothing else to help determine the whereabouts of such books which I have been
told at one point existed. I am hoping to track a few people and hopefully get
a died after x date

Many thanks for any input on the matter.
