Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Hello :) New here and a little lost (Researching husband's family)

2016-12-07 Thread Samantha B
Hi Linda and all

Thanks :) Funnily enough I think I saw a passport for a Maria Josepha close
to the depature date but I skimmed over it because I couldn't see Joaquim
(silly silly me). Once the site is back up I'll find it and document it
again.

Once I get my head around Joaquim's immigration status I'll try and post
something a little more sensible.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Passport records

2016-12-07 Thread Cheri Mello
There's at least half a dozen churches named Nossa Senhora do Rosario in
the Azores. Kinda like me stating I go to St. John's. You'd ask "Where?"
Because we are dealing with 9 different islands and you want as many people
to read your post as you can, it's best to always state the island too.
People interested in your island of research will read your posts. The
further back you go, they may be able to make a connection. Without the
island, they just scan your Subject title and delete you. You'll be missing
out on a chance to connect.

Tombo.pt (tombo.pt/en for English) is a portal or a table of contents to
the CCA. You will find navigation much easier there, especially when you
get to using the records (baptisms, marriages, deaths). Right now the CCA
is down. I posted that info in another thread. It's about 5 pm there now,
so they are probably going home. Maybe the CCA will be up tomorrow.

Portuguese "passaportes" go through tombo.pt to access the Centro do

American passports you have to write to the Department of the State. You can

the links out to the Dept. of State and read their directions and follow them

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Passport records

2016-12-07 Thread Cheri Mello
Portuguese "passaportes" go through tombo.pt to access the Centro do
Conhecimento dos Azores (CCA) site: tombo.pt/en (stay in the left column
and navigate to Azores. Passaportes are on the main Azores page). NOTE: It
appears that the CCA is down. I emailed them at 9:04 a.m. PST today to let
them know).

American passports are all over the place. Some are digitized and on
Ancestry. If they immigrated through Ellis Island (after 1892) you *might*
find them on ellisilsand.org (before 1892 is Castle Garden). Many are still
on film and you will have to go to your local FHC or possibly your regional
NARA.

Canadian passports - I don't know. I don't know about Australia or New
Zealand either.
