[AZORES-Genealogy] Help with part of a Casamento

2017-05-04 Thread Sue Q
This record is
at
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/GRA-SC-SANTACRUZ-C-1755-1789/GRA-SC-SANTACRUZ-C-1755-1789_item1/P41.html
and it's the one on the left page for Antonio Pereira da Cunha.

Starting on the line where the name in the margin is, I have:

"...Antonio Pereira da Cunha, son of Antonio da Cunha da Vasconcellos and
his wife Maria Medina, and Quiteria Maria de Jesus, daughter of Manuel
Vasconcellos and Maria de Jesus de Vieira?? parishioner of ?? (can't tell
the word) of this mentioner island of Graciosa..." I don't understand the
rest and think it might have something important in it.

I'd be grateful for any help.

The CCA does not have them, so they are at the church. You would have to go
there or hire someone to go there and search for you.

Hi Joseph,

"filho familias" means that the son is not married and is less than 25

[AZORES-Genealogy] Attention J-M267 DNA testers (who got the SNP Pack email)

2017-05-04 Thread Cheri Mello
(Cross Posted to Azores, Madeira, IslandRoutes lists)

This SNP Pack is for the Y chromosome only, so it is only for men. So if
you didn't test your Y-DNA, then you tested your uncle's, nephew, brother,
male cousin, etc. So you or someone you tested is J-M267. When you take a
Y-DNA test, you get the haplogroup designation. That is where you fit on
the tree of mankind, out of Africa. Many men of Ashkenazi Jewish descent
are J-M267. You can read about it more here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_J-M267

You can also see more by logging in the DNA page and clicking here (images
may not appear on the Madeira list):

SNP = Short Nucleotide Polymorphism. They test the SNPs to refine the
haplogroup further.

FTDNA sent out an email, saying they have a SNP pack ready for J-M267 men
for an introductory price of $99 instead of $119. So what do you get?
They'd pull the vials and see if you (your guy) tests positive for any of
the SNPs in the pack. So you (your guy) could go from a J-M267 to J-Z123 (I
made that up). Or he could test negative for all of them and remain at
J-M267.

Does this help with your genealogy? Not exactly. It's more anthropology
oriented. If you had a DNA match on Y-37 who did the SNP Pack and you want
to see if you belong on the same branch of the tree of mankind (haplotree),
you could order the SNP Pack on your dad.

Bottom line: It's mostly anthropology and for $99 you get to go from J-M267
to J-.

Did I do it? Yeah, when they had a SNP pack for my dad's haplogroup, it
also went on sale. I had the money, so I did it. He went from R-M269 to
R-DF81. So now I can say my dad is DF81. LOL. I figure it helps the
population geneticists more than me.

Jeremy, I'm used to this priest and it's Joao. If you look a little further
a couple of pages you will see his writing of Joseph and see how he writes
his "J". Barb is looking at the second up from the bottom not the bottom
name which is Bras.

The more I look at it, the more positive I am that it is Bras rather than Joao.
You can see faintly the left part of the B has worn away. It is clear as day
at the end of the second line in the body of the baptism where you can
distinguish a B. Also the last letter flares up like an s.

Yep, it's always a joy when you get a priest that loves to embelish all of
the letters and then puts that tail on the end that goes up instead of
down!! Oh yes and you have the bleed over from the next page to deal with
too! LOL
