It's a little bit more friendly than it was... For a while there was little
to no indication that anything was happening "in the background" after
you'd click on something. Like the little spinner icons or others you might
see on your computer, depending what system you use. Now at least it
sometimes says, "loading. And it's really hard to look at the trees (for
me) on my iPad.

And don't get me started on how the tree section reacts to the mouse I use
with my Mac computer!

But we persist, don't we...since we want that information!

 I don't understand what you are trying to read. The genealogy records
 are online at the CCA and are not text documents. I always ask for people
 to post the URL to the web site to avoid any problems since we all have

The files you posted that end in .txt have nothing in them. They are all the 
same size and blank. I tried several programs that should be able to read them

I don't know that the FTDNA site is iPad friendly. I know it's NOT mobile
friendly. They've been working on that one for a couple of years. Since I
don't have an iPad, I don't know what FTDNA looks like when viewed from
that device.

GEDCOM = GEnealogy Data COMmunication. It's a platform all genealogy
programs have that allow us to share files with each other. If you have no
computer, then you aren't using a stand alone genealogy program. I don't
know what they have for iPad genealogy programs. If you are using a cloud
based genealogy program (Ancestry, My Heritage, Geni), they can create a
Gedcom. Do an Internet search on: "ancestry.com download gedcom" or "my
heritage download gedcom" or "geni download gedcom" or whatever you use.
Then you can follow the directions from there.

For the cousins who tested with AncestryDNAthey can transfer to FTDNA
for free. To unlock all their tools is $10 on sale (regularly $19). They
should transfer as soon as possible, as I don't know when the sale is
ending. Then have them contact me and I'll tell them how to get into the
Azores DNA Project.

Please use the full name of Family Tree DNA or FTDNA. There are too many
things out there called "Family Tree" and it gets to be rather ambiguous.

Thanks for the reply. I have to figure out how to use the site. I do not know 
what Gedcom is ? Will have to read up on it. I have done my autosomal with 
Ancestry also and several of the matches in Family Tree I matched with them 
there also. More of my close cousins did their autosomal with Ancestry and I 
have encouraged them to do it with Family Tree also. I have just begun to use 
Family Tree. I do not have a computer and mostly use my iPad which seems to 
work okay.

My guess would be that Casquilha/o is an alcunha (nickname).

Since you know your ancestor left in 1906, you can check the outbound 
"passaportes" for a Francisco Rodrigues (Roiz is the abbreviation) 
Casquilho. Go through Tombo.pt here:
http://tombo.pt/d/acores

You want the port of Ponta Delgada. 1906 is split between 2 books. You may 
find it easier to scan the freguesia column for Faja de Cima (belongs to 
the council of Ponta Delgada) than to read every name for a Francisco.

Sandra P,

I don't understand what you are trying to read. The genealogy records are
online at the CCA and are not text documents. I always ask for people to
post the URL to the web site to avoid any problems since we all have
different operating systems on our end.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Casquilha/Casquilho from Faja de Cima, Sao Miguel island

Repost for Scott Anderson,

I am looking for information about the surname Casquilha or Casquilho that
would have been located in Faja de Cima, Sao Miguel. My great-grandfather
emigrated from Sao Miguel to the US in 1906. His name was Jose Rodrigues
Casquilha (or "o," I've seen it both ways). As far as I can tell, his
father was named Francisco Rodrigues Casquilho and his mother was Maria
Jose Ermelinda. Any information about the surname or any family members
that may still live on the island would be most welcome.
