Scott A, My guess would be that Casquilha/o is an alcunha (nickname).
Since you know your ancestor left in 1906, you can check the outbound "passaportes" for a Francisco Rodrigues (Roiz is the abbreviation) Casquilho. Go through Tombo.pt here: http://tombo.pt/d/acores You want the port of Ponta Delgada. 1906 is split between 2 books. You may find it easier to scan the freguesia column for Faja de Cima (belongs to the council of Ponta Delgada) than to read every name for a Francisco. Good luck. Let us know how you do.
