[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: FYI Azores and Alaska Airlines

2017-12-05 Thread Tomas Leal
SATA and Virgin America have long code-shared on SFO-BOS-PDL flights and
Virgin has been merged into Alaska, so most probably Alaska is simply
renewing an existing agreement because the full "integration" of Alaska and
Virgin is supposed to be completed the end of this year, and the Virgin
name will disappear completely by 2019.

2017-12-05 Thread Rico Garcia
Hi Deb,

The Rosa Silvina/Silveira/Margarida that is in my family married Jose
Francisco da Rosa Martins. He was born in 1874 in Feteira. Her parents,
however, were de Sousa. I am not sure there is a match there, but I will
keep this in mind as I continue my research.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: The Power of the Azores Genealogy Google Group and DNA

2017-12-05 Thread 'Deb McCabe' via Azores Genealogy
Hi Rico,
I am Deb McCabe, the Deb that my prima Pat mentioned in the post you
referenced.  I wanted to reach out to see if we can figure out if we are
related.
I have two possible connections in my tree.  Either could be the Rosa Silvia
Martins (aka Rosa Silveira Martins and Rosa Margarida Martins) you mentioned as
the mother of your  Rosa (born 1898 and married to Rufino Silveira de Faria).
The first Rosa Silvia Martins possibility is:RosaBorn in Feteira, Faial in
1860.Daughter of Jose Francisco Martins and his first wife,  Maria Felicia do
Coracao de Jesus.  Jose is my paternal great grandfather.
The second Rosa Silvia Martins possibility is:RosalindaBorn in Feteira, Faial
in 1874.Daughter of Jose Francisco Martins and his second wife, Virginia
Emilia.  Jose Francisco and Virginia Emilia are my  paternal grandparents.
Unfortunately,  I don't have any info on either of these women.  Nevertheless,
I wanted to reach out in case, as you were looking through the records, you saw
any of these names.
Also, if you know any other names of relatives in the Azores or who came to
the U.S., perhaps we can figure out if there is a connection by starting with
them.  Also, Pat and I both have had our DNA tested.  If you take the FTDNA
test, we will know for sure.
Please do keep me posted.  Best of luck!
Deb

Hi Cheri,
I had to share this with you! Four years ago I saw a post on the Azores Google
Group asking if anyone had Martins from Feteira Faial in their tree.  I was so
excited because I did and it had been a dead end. I contacted Deb McCabe and we
compared notes. We were convinced that we probably were 3rd cousins. Fast
forward to FTDNA. Yes, we are 3rd cousins! We are meeting in person for the
first time in 2 weeks. I'm so excited because she is the first living relative
I have found on my father's side. Previously the only paternal relatives I have
ever known were my father, my grandfather (who died when I was 5) and my aunt
who was childless.
Thank you Cheri, I couldn't have done this without you. You are forever in my
debt. Can't wait till the conference!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: The Power of the Azores Genealogy Google Group and DNA

2017-12-05 Thread Cheri Mello
Rico,

The records for Feteira, Faial are online at the Centro de Conhecimento dos
Acores (CCA). Also, they are semi-indexed on the CITCEM site.

Go to CITCEM here: http://www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt/genealogias.html
Click on Feteira, Faial, then the next page, click the arrow. Next page has
a British flag if you need it in English.

If you find her, go to the CCA, but use Tombo.pt. It's a portal to the CCA
and much easier to navigate.

If you can't find her, you'll have to work on the dates that you have and
broaden your search.

Good luck, Cheri Mello
