Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Merry Christmas and Feliz Natal thread

2019-12-25 Thread Ângela Loura
Merry Christmas everyone.

PS: my grandfather learnt how to use a laptop and Skype at 94 to be in
contact with his younger and last living brother in Brazil, his daughter in
Lisbon, another daughter in the Azores, a son in Namibia, and another
daughter in Belgium, and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It
was a blessing for him over the last 5 years to be close to him family in a
new and diferent way, and i know it made a huge difference in his life
until his last day in this world.

Boas Festas! 

A special shout out to Celeste Perry who helped me back in 2015 when we

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family Tree DNA's Holiday Sale (through Dec. 26th)

2019-12-25 Thread Nancy Couto
Dear Bill Ricardo,

Thanks for including your Y-DNA haplogroup. I checked my brother’s matches and
it appears you match him at 67 markers with a distance of 6. According to
FTDNA’s estimate, there is a good chance we could have a common ancestor within
12 generations. My brother’s name is Edward Couto Jr., and I manage his
account.

You don’t appear to be a match for either my brother or me on Family Finder.

I will email you privately.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family Tree DNA's Holiday Sale (through Dec. 26th)

2019-12-25 Thread Gordon soares
Hi Bill:

I know what you mean about Ancestry.com . I have the same
problem getting info off their site since I cancelled them. I use Family tree
maker (I have a Mac and can’t use MyHeritage without a lot of goofing around on
the Mac). Nonetheless,I have found by looking at both MyHeritage as well as FTM
(and a couple of others) that they seem to have the same data construction as
Ancestry. However, every time you go to get information such as a “suggestion
leaf” from Ancestry you get their page to sign up. You have to be a bit cagey
but I have found ways to get around most of that. I do stay synched with
Ancestry but don’t know fi that can be done with MyHeritage. I stay synched
because sometimes it is easier to maneuver in my tree there so UI input my data
then synch to FTM. Works fine. Hope my experiences help you to decide to leave
Ancestry.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Ancestry vs. My Heritage for tree building

2019-12-25 Thread Cheri Mello
 Bill R,

I don't use any of the online tree services. My tree lives on my computer
in my fully-featured genealogy program. I control it. If I screw it up,
it's my fault. From time to time, I generate a new tree and upload it where
I need to upload it.

>From what I understand, the tree "software" is similar on both sites.
Legacy Family Tree will sync with the My Heritage tree when Legacy releases
version 10. For now you would have to Gedcom it over:
https://news.legacyfamilytree.com/legacy_news/2018/06/working-with-dna-using-myheritage-and-legacy.html

I don't know about the which databases and records My Heritage holds, so I
can't speak to that. I think a couple of people here may subscribe.

Bill you need to contact Herb Silva, one of your DNA Family Finder matches
on FTDNA. You match his mom and if you work together, you can probably
figure out the connection. Well, you match more than his mom. You are
matching a lot of family members that Herb has tested.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family Tree DNA's Holiday Sale (through Dec. 26th)

2019-12-25 Thread Bill Ricardo
Merry Christmas!

I know this may be a bit outside of the parameters of your regular purview,
but I am hoping y'all can provide some valuable guidance.

I have thus far submitted DNA tests to both ancestry.com and
FamilyTreeDNA.com and I have obtained further YDNA and MtDNA results
(haplogroups G-M201 and K1a4a, respectively) from the latter. I have
further shared data with MyHeritage.com and GEDMatch. Up until now I have
used ancestry.com as my primary tree building platform but I discovered a
few months ago that the 1,000 or so photos I had uploaded there last year
at this time had disappeared from the various family member profiles and
they, ancestry.com, were initially unable to explain why. Since that
first revelation, they have responded to me via email for additional data
from me about my tree, such as sending them screen shots and the like.
Frankly, I don't wish to commit to that much time to reconstruct the info I
had loaded to the site over what easily took me dozens of hours to
generate. My thought now is that I should cancel my subscription with
ancestry.com and rebuild my extended tree with My Heritage.

My question is can My Heritage.com provide the same or comparable level of
info that I was getting from ancestry.com if I subscribe to their
"Complete" service level?

Any assistance/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Obrigado/Mahalo/Thanks,
Bill Ricardo
