2010-01-13 Thread Marcos Arruda Raposo
Hi, Margaret, hi, John,

Thanks, you are both incredible! May I add to the list I made to Margaret
yet another son of Tomé Raposo and Sebastiana da Costa, just pointed out by
John. Allow me to quote:

"marra...@cs.com *Jan 12 04:42PM -0500**
There is also their son Domingos Raposo born in S. José, who married
Antónia Carvalho, also of S. José along with her parents, Domingos Dias and
Maria
Carvalho, on 27 April 1730 in S. José.
John Miranda Raposo"
*
By the way, have you noticed Revista Michaelense, at Google Books? There
are lots of genealogical information there, but only a few lines on
each name can be seen on-line.

Thank you both, again and again,
Marcos.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Digest for azores@googlegroups.com - 13 Messages in 5 Topics

2010-01-11 Thread Marcos Arruda Raposo
Hi, Margaret,

May I bother you a little more on our probable connection at Arrifes?

I thought my Raposos were all from Ponta Delgada, but John Miranda Raposo
kindly told me that they were in fact from Arrifes. His sources indicate
that my gggrandfather Tomé Raposo (married to Sebastiana da Costa), who
died before Dec 1735, was from Arrifes and had the following sons, besides
my ggrandfather Pedro: Antonio (married to Vitoria Cordeiro and then to
Maria de São José), Gonçalo (married to Maria Pereira), Silvestre (married
to Joana Botelho) and Domingos (married to Antonia Carvalho).

Pedro was christened in freguesia of the Patriarch São José, Ponta Delgada,
as did his brothers Gonçalo and Silvestre, but the family seems to have
later moved to the freguesia of S. Sebastião, in Ponta Delgada.

Tomé Raposo and Sebastiana da Costa of Arrifes are my brickwalls,
unsurmountable so far. You know, after 200 years oblivion water produces a
kind hang-over that compels people to seek their forgotten relatives. Can
you help?

Thanks a lot,
Marcos.

Hi, Shirley,
I'm no expert in genealogy, but most of the information we have been dealing
with in this list comes from catholic parish books. I guess jewish surnames
would hardly appear on those books. By the way, couldn't Sereque be a
modified form of Eizirik?
Now, my own question: is it possible to know whether our azorean ancestry,
back in the 16th century, is jewish? Are there records on the subject, or
did they all disappear with the Marquis of Pombal? For example, were my
forebearers, the Raposos from São Miguel, new christians? Does anyone know?
Marcos.
