Thanks to everyone for their help.
Now I have a few new directions to research, especioally the Cambridge
marriage. I'm not sure this is the same family.
Hoping I can help someone in the group someday.

she wasn't on the 1910 census - A Maria Jacintho died in Fall River in 1902.

In 1910 they are in Middleboro (Frank Jessie) and 1920 in Plymouth (Frank

You had they died in the 1920s so they aren't on the 1930 census.

I couldn't find where their son Francisco came to this country prior to 1902.

I did find a Francis Gesse who arrived in New York on May 19, 1907, on
the Pretoria from Bermuda - he was a shipwright - going to Fall River - born
 in St. Michael's, the Azores.

He is on the 1910 cenus as Frank Jesse Jr - 1920 census as Frank Jesse and
1930 as Frank Jure - the censuses stating he arrived here in 1907.

Marriage in Cambridge MA in 1907 - Francisco Jacinto (Francisco Jascinto) 2
entries - Francssea Silva - wonder if this is them as I couldn't find any
 marriage in Plymouth.

There must be a passport for Francisco in 1901 around that time - there are
World War I and II drafts for him.

Going to see if Francisco's family ever did go to the Bahamas.

Just found a Francisca Nunes De Silva - estimated birth year 1889 - arrived
June 28, 1906 on the Peninsula - port of arrival - New Bedford - the dates
 tie in.

Good Work Carmen,

The Ship Passenger list gives the sailing date which is a good point at
which to start your search at the CCA site.

Carmen,

Pat gave me the name Frank Jacintho. So I searched the records for
the Portuguese spelling Francisco Jacintho and that is how I found
them on Ancestry also. Then I went to the CCA site, as I mentioned in
my last email, and went back 3 weeks before, as a very learned
researcher taught me this, and I went page by page until I found them.
You have to be real creative with name spellings on Ancestry

I found this at the Ellis Island webpage - but was wondering why I
couldn't

I'm inclined to agree on what it says, but I didn't want to influence you
before you came up with something!

  Jay,

Thanks for th reply. With you info, I believe the concelho says Ponta Delg.
ie Ponta Delgada. Hopefully, I will get more proficient at reading these.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Jacintho/Tarves/Teves

2009-06-25 Thread Hermano C. Pires

Hello Pat

After reading Elaine's posting I realised that these were on the same page
which I was looking at for information on some of my relatives. I don't know if
you already have all this, but if you do there is nothing lost.

Here is what I can extract. All the people below seem to have traveled under
the same passport. They are all from the Parish of Sao Jose, Ponta Delgada, Sao
Miguel, Acores, Portugal and going to America. I will leave the names as they
are.

Francisco Jacintho, 53 years of age, fisherman, son of Antonio Jacintho and
Anna de Jesus

Jacintha de Jesus, 47 years of age, housewife, daughter of Jacintho de Teves
and Anna Jacintha

Maria dos Anjos, 21 years of age, at home (domestica), daughter of Francisco
Jacintho and Jacintha de Jesus

Emilia de Jesus, 17 years of age, at home (domestica), daughter of Francisco
Jacintho and Jacintha de Jesus

Manuel, 12 years of age, son of Francisco Jacintho and Jacintha de Jesus

Joao (de Teves), 24 years of age, fisherman, son of Francisco de Teves and
Luiza Candida

Joao de Teves, 26 years of age, fisherman, son of Antonio de Teves and Maria
Tavares

Jose de Teves, 28 years of age, fisherman, son of Antonio de Teves and Maria
Tavares

Maria Tavares, 18 years of age, at home (domestica), daughter of Francisco
Tavares and Maria Candida

Manuel 12 years of age, son of Francisco Tavares and Maria Candida

I hope that helps.

Hermano

 Pat,

Here is the Tavares/Teves/Jacintho's that I found on the ship Peninsular on
the CCA Sao Miguel Passportes list. Since I have a problem reading the
Concelho-??? Freguezia-S. Jose, I am sending the site address and maybe you
or others can do a better job.

 They are number 209.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Jacintho/Tarves/Teves

2009-06-24 Thread bellemarco
Pat,

I assume this is part of your family.

1920 census - Frank Jesse, wife Frances and children (surname is Jesse so I
assume they changed their last name) living on Prince St. in Plymouth Frank
b. June 8, 1883 Azores. Interesting, they are next door neighbors to
Carmen's Viera family. On the same page 1920 census are some Taveras (sp)
John Teresa and ch: Manuel, Belinda, Antone, Frank, Sara. They are also
living there in 1910 census.

So far I have not found your earlier Tarvis, Jacintho or Tavares - will
keep looking. There is a Teves family living in Plymouth in 1920 census and
Joao de Teves b. 3/5/1875 Portugal
WWI Draft Registration record.
