On the 28 day of the month of January 1904 in this parochial church of Santa Barbara, nine ???, council and diocese of Angra de Herosimo (spelling) in the presence of Joao Lourenco de Avila , priest of this church, betrothed Manoel Machado da Costa and Anna de Jesus, with all papers in the correct order and style and without canonical or civil impediments to marriage, he the age of twenty two, single, worker, native, baptized, resident of this church, of Sao Jorge dos Reibeiras (spelling) council the same, and of Delfinia and of Augusta (no idea what that means??) native of this Santa Barbara ??? Bob; Starting where I think I left off: She of the age of 19 with consent of legitimate superior presented verbally in this ceremony (not sure about that consent of legitimate superior part, etc. part) single, ???, domestic, native, baptized and resident of this church, legitimate daughter of Manoel Correa d’Azevedo native of this church of Sao Bartholomeu, council of the same and Maria Josepha native of Santa Barbara dos Ribeiras, island of Pico (then basically, I think it says they were received and all the paperwork was in order. Hope this helps and hope other chime in to make corrections. This is what it looks like to me: 22 Jan 1904 Church: Santa Barbara - Nove Ribeiras Manoel Machado da Costa Anna de Jesus Manoel age 22, single, native baptised this freguesia son legitimate of Manoel Machado da Costa, native of Dose Ribeiras, Sao Jorge X/ Delfina Augusta, native Santa Barbara SPOUSE Anna de Jesus, age 19, single, native, baptised, resident this freguesia daughter legitimate of Manoel Correia de Azevedo, native Sao Bartholomeu Maria Josefa, native Santa Barbara, das Ribeiras, island of Pico. TESTIMONY Joaquim Nunes da Rocha Manoel Rodrigues da Rocha, Vigorioof this freguesia. I hope that this helps at least a little bit. Maybe someone else can do better.
