2018-11-25 Thread Richard Francis Pimentel
Cory,

I got them using the State of Massachusetts vital records website. It goes to a
portal to Family Search. I used search parameters Name Maria da Costa, and a
marriage between 1915-1925, spouse not named.

I was interrupted by dinner but the Church where the ceremony was performed was
St Patrick Church in Somerset, MA. Espirito Santo in Fall River would have no

Eric, I believe the two attached records are your family. Stella and Manuel had
a child named Olive and comparing the records, the marriage is a good match
with the birth record of the one for Olive. believe the other file is their

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Portuguese Brickwall.

2018-07-22 Thread Richard Francis Pimentel
Massachusetts vital records are available up to 1926 at the state archives. You
can search online up to the year 1910 at this site:
http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcsrch/SearchWelcome.html . The index for the
remaining years is at the archives in Boston (Near the JFK Library). You can
search on Family Search (LDS site) as well. Santo Cristo is part of the Fall
River Diocese. The marriage record book is most likely at the parish.

go on to say most of your family is from Arrifes and Lagoa.

Here's a list of things to look into (a how-to from the Azores GenWeb):

You could write or call Santo Cristo in Fall River and ask them for a copy of

the 90 year rule (if so, you should be able to obtain it) or the 100 year rule
(you'd have to wait until next year). You want what is in the book, as the
bride may have stated the village where she was from. Maybe they can just tell
you that part over the phone.

The U.S. Censuses will give her year of immigration and naturalization. If she
did not naturalize and lived until 1940, she had to file the paperwork for the
Smith Act/Alien Registration. Immigration, naturalization, and alien
registration are things to look into as well. IF (giant IF) she is consistent

You could write or call Santo Cristo in Fall River and ask them for a copy
