Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Family Finder DNA, IT REALLY WORKS!!!
Hi Mary: You mention Antonio X Constancia. I have 104 Antonio de Mello X 106 Constancia de Jesus. Also: 234 Antonio do Rego Barbosa X 235 Constancia Rosa. If my brain is working properly, I believe that Ribeira Quente is close to Ponta Garca. From what I can remember, there used to be a narrow path from Ribeira Quente to Ponta Garca. Therefore, people would have their children in Ribeira Quente and baptise them in Ponta Garca. Antonio (1759- pre 1851 is my #234. He was born in Ribeira Quente and Baptised in Ponta Garca. Anyone correct me if I am wrong. I may be related to the same Antonio Constancia. I matched Shirley Allegre on Family Finder and after many months we figured out that we shared common ancestors: Cipriano do Rego (1729-1782, Ponta Garça) and Antonia Barbosa (1725-1792, Vila Franca and Ponta Garça). I'm related to their daughter Maria de Jesus Rego or Barbosa (1760 - before 1828, Ponta Garça). My records show that Cipriano and Antonia also had a son Antonio (1759-before 1851, Ribeira Quente) who married Constancia Roza de Jesus (b. 1766, Ponta Garça). Is that the same couple? Does it make sense that some children would be born in Ribeira Quente and some in Ponta Garça? When I use the in common with feature on Family Finder for Shirley, we don't have anyone else in common. My grandfather was the relative born in Ponta Garça, so maybe I don't have enough Azores DNA to match others. I hope I am related to this line! Thanks Shirley. Maybe I'm related to the other Antonio Constancia, not the couple that Cheri was referring to. What are the birth and death dates for Antonio de Mello Constancia de Jesus? Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Family Finder DNA, IT REALLY WORKS!!!
I looked back at my and Shirley's GEDCOMs on Family Finder and I see may be related to an aunt of Constancia de Jesus (who married Antonio de Mello). Shirley shows Constancia's grandparents as Joao Fagundes Rabello (1705-1780, Ponta Garça) and Thereza de Sousa Furtada (1707-1771, Vila Franca Ponta Garça). I have that same couple as parents of my direct relative: Jacinta Furtado (1727-1797, Ponta Garça). So if this is right it would be another link with Shirley. I'm guessing there might be more links if I keep searching. I don't know if Ciprano is in my tree more than once, but wouldn't be surprised. So I think I'm related to Shirley through both my g-grandmother and my g-grandfather! This might help explain the fragmented DNA matches. This is interesting! So it's not Antonio de Mello b. 1766 in Vila Franca m. to Constancia de Jesus Pimentel b. in Ponta Garca (and m. PG). So yes, you are right about not having enough DNA. You share 60 cMs (centoMorgan - a genetic unit of measure like a centimeter or inch...but it's microscopic) with Shirley and have 20 segments, but they are pretty fractured all over the place. The biggest block is on chromosome 10 (use your Chromosome Browser) and you'll see 3 blocks there. Do you have Ciprano do Rego Antonia Barboza more than once in your tree? I wonder if this is contributing to the fragmentation. Once we start making more and more paper trail connections, I think we will be able to help the geneticists with our intermarrying ancestors. Yes, Ponta Garca was there first. Then Ribeira Quente. So you will a lot of references back and forth between the 2 freguesias. Jacinta Furtada married Antonio de Pimentel on 2 March 1756, in Ponta Garca. Antonio de Pimentel was the son of my 420 Antonio de Pimentel X my 421 Maria Furtada.
