Re: Windows alternative to BBEdit
When I was forced into the same situation, I found that SlickEdit worked best for me. NP++ is fine for quick and dirty stuff, but for real work, spend a little money. I happen to use Araxis Merge because it's fully x-platform. One key thing: If SlickEdit is being used by other people, you're best off using it's key-bindings and rebinding your BBEdit to match. That way if someone sits at your computer and drives they're not flummoxed. Otherwise, just rebind the keys to what you're used to. I usually prefer to work on a Mac with BBEdit and run Windows as a VirtualMachine. The VM mounts my Mac workspace as a network drive and I build there. - Steve On Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 6:06 AM, François Schiettecatte fschietteca...@gmail.com wrote: Just did a google search for Windows Text Editors: http://www.lifehack.org/articles/technology/6-powerful-text-editors-for-windows.html Looks like Notepad++ and UltraEdit are it. Re: Creating a new site in BBEdit
Hi. If you are using MAMP then your sites will actually be stored in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/ . Within htdocs create a folder for each site. That folder will be the site's root. When configuring the Site setup in BBEdit, the server URL will be localhost: . The path on server will be simply the folder name in htdocs in which you put the site. Browse to that folder in order to configure Local site root and then wherever you might keep templates and includes. You can then check Use local preview server and for its URL, use: http://localhost:/ To access and work with the files in your newly created site, I recommend you create a Project for each site. File New Project... Name it and save it inside the root folder for that site (or anywhere, actually). A project window will open where you have the opportunity to add any and all relevant files to the left column for easy access. At the very bottom of that column, lower left, click the + button to add files and folders to the project. You can add the entire root folder for the site in which case everything in that folder including asset subfolders will be available in the project file list. I prefer to add files and folders individually, though, excluding the ones I don't need. Find whatever method works best for you in that regard. Project files need not be specifically site files. For example, during development, I may add a client's Word docs with their notes even though I store that doc elsewhere. Double-clicking that Word doc in the project file list will open it in Word, by the way. Same goes for image and other non-BBedit files. Hope this all helps. Re: Creating a new site in BBEdit
The site root can actually be anywhere. Mamps preferences under apache allow you to define the site root location. htdocs is just the default, but I change this sometimes several times a day as if you use relative to root link the server must be targeting the root of that particular site, not just a folder where you might have many sites On Aug 29, 2012, at 3:20 PM, Ken Lanxner k...@simplelives.com wrote: Within htdocs create a folder for each site. Re: formatting or indentation of code block
The way I interpreted this question was how to quickly indent or unindent a block - like option+command+[ or ] in dreamweaver. The feature you mention is almost like a clean up style function and apply formats But for a quick block indent there is a preference in the preferences | keyboard area called allow tab key to indent text blocks. Checking this option allows the tab key to work on an entire selected block (instead of replacing the selected block with a tab). Its very nice!
